Sending phone in for repair - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

The microphone is broken on my phone and I got to send it in for repair. I was wondering whether there is anything more that I have to do besides a RUU to return the phone back to a completely stock state before I send it in? Im s-off running viper xl with a custom boot splash and radio and super cid.

Hey bro. Are u sending it to htc for repair? Or verizon? I would assume htc, since it is a "repair". If so, then u really dont need to return it to stock. They dont care unless its something software related, but since its hardware, u should b good. After u run the ruu, u should b stock anyways, no?

Yeah I'm sending it in to HTC for warranty. I didn't know if the saw something like relocked in the bootloader whether they would automatically say it isn't under warranty anymore.

You would think incorrectly. HTC reserves to right, and has, voided warranties for flashing custom ROMs.
Its been discussed on the "international" One X forum, that some folks have had warranty claims denied due to having ever flashed a custom ROM, despite returning to stock. Apparently, they still have some way to tell, even if you RUU to stock. Although they will honor the warranty if the bootloader is unlocked, but a custom ROM never installed. Inconsistent and a bit strange.
But HTC warranty service probably varies a bit by region. So its at least worth a try.

Well, from my experiance, ive had all hardware problems. I sent a device s-off but with a stock rom. Had no problems. Probably a good general rule though, to return to stock.

Why take chances? Flash back to stock and s-on. Why give the over-worked, under-paid factory repair tech a reason to deny warranty repair on your borked phone?

Good to know, thanks.
Most folks on here in the US seem to send their phones to AT&T (which seem to be pretty lenient). So its good to hear a report regarding HTC US.
Everywhere else I've read, HTC can be pretty brutal.

Ya bro, ive had all positive experiances with HTC. Im on my third replacement DNA from them. All free replacements. One cracked screen, one bricked, wouldnt take a charge, or boot, and this 3rd, which im waiting on right now as a matter of fact. fed ex should b here any moment. It had a blue blotch, or "smudge, within the screen. But all of them i had absolutely no problems getting them warranted out.
If they get a phone which is s-off, for all they know, they sent out a dev phone on accident. Ive seen it numerous times.

Flashing a custom rom can cause some hardware issues, so I can understand why HTC wouldn't warrant it.
If I was returning to HTC, I would change the CID back and RUU but leave bootloader unlocked and S-OFF, this way, if they decide to update the software to the latest, you can still flash and whatnot.

I thought you had to relock to run the ruu?

If you're S-OFF you don't need to relock to run an RUU and since S-OFF doesn't actually give full access on the oneXL without an unlocked bootloader, best to just leave them both.

Bootloader

Recently I unlocked my bootloader on my AT&T htc one x
Did this void my warranty on my phone, because it seems to be having hardware issues, and I don't know if this voided my warranty.
Technically, yes. It voids your warranty.
Are you still within your 30 days?
I had a flickering pixel on my first HOX. So I backed everything up, relocked my bootloader, flashed the 1.85 RUU, factory reset to everything stock, made sure that there were no ROM or "hacking" files on the SD card (can't be too careful ), and brought it to the AT&T store.
They replaced my HOX without any problem!
I never mentioned to them that I unlocked and relocked my bootloader, and they never asked me either. As long as you focus on the hardware issue, you're good.
If you're part your 30 days, though, can't tell you what happens then. I don't know how thoroughly they look at a device with hardware issues, or how picky they are when you send them your device for warranty replacement. Wouldn't hurt to try though, IMO, if it's something that bothers you.
What's wrong with the hardware?

I am not getting any att signal at all no bars anywhere, I don't know if it's sim card or the phone itself.

Did you try flashing different radios?
Anyway, this how to relock your bootloader:

This is the RUU that I used to go back to stock:

No, I didn't what does flashing different radios do.
Thanks btw for all the help
Here is the link to a collection of radios for the HOX:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694012
You may or may not have a hardware issue. Did you flash any ROMs after you unlocked your bootloader?
I would try to rule it out by either flashing one of the radios from the above collection (I would start with the ATT 1.85 radio), or by going back to stock completely if that doesn't help. If you're still having issues, then I would take the phone to the store in its "stock" and "relocked" condition.

Just think it's a noob looking for attention. If he did want S-ON, he would've replied. I think he pretty damn well knows what S-OFF is, just wanted some attention for a few days.
He did replied to the first responce to his question and then the semi flames started for him not knowing any better. Noob for sure. He will know the difference now or and hopefully search before posting next time. Hopefully by then he knows the true status of his phone that's just something we have to deal with during this stage of a new phone. Once development picks up and there are more threads and more people posting useful information for the noobs to learn from it will make things a lot better.

I don't work for HTC so I can't tell you. Are you paying for service? Or using your warranty? If you're trying to use warranty, it was voided the second the BL was unlocked. You may luck out and they might not check or see it. What's the worst that could happen? They send it back and say they can't service it?
If you bought it from AT&T, return it to AT&T. There have been a bunch of reports by folks on here that have had warranty honored by AT&T even though the bootloader is RELOCKED. And haven't seen any reports of AT&T doing otherwise.

It will always only say RELOCKED. Only way for it to say LOCKED is if the bootloader was never unlocked. Some think the flag can be changed to LOCKED if we get S-Off. RUU will only remove the TAMPERED tag. It will not make it back to LOCKED.

Has HTC gave S-off to any of their other devices? I really don't think it will happen.
Don't want to jump in too much. But I had to at least say something. I'm curious what you mean when you say s=off will increase development... We will get more accomplished or attract more developers? Either way we said that for... Many, many months with the amaze... When we finally got s =off its been several months since and there has been no increase in development. Only one example but it was enough for me to think that's not the answer that we need
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
HTC definitely won't give S-OFF. We will probably get it eventually, though. Getting it will not directly make more ROMs, but it will certainly make more people root their devices, which probably will lead to more ROMs.

Oh ok thats relocked vs locked. I never had any problems though returning my one s with relocked bootloader but I had to return to T-Mobile and not HTC. Not sure if HTC is strict and checks everything.
I have a one s running viper 1.2 and its amazing on the one s great battery life and performance. This weekend I unlocked and installed the one x viper rom on my big brothers one x and my one s feels way speedier. The one x feels uncomfortable in my hands and looks bulky while the one s is sexy and packed with power. Just wish there was a bit more development for the one s.

AT&T HTC One X OTA Update bricked.

My phone was fine yesterday was running Scottsclean rom for months just fine. I Flashed 2.20 RUU and everything was fine.
I then allowed it to OTA Update and after returning to the phone, I believe its bricked does not light up when plugged in, Nor does it enter the bootloader. I do believe its bricked cause after holding Volume down and power it just enters Download mode.
Any help would be appreciated.

That's too bad. ota keeper seems to be hit and miss. S-off folks seem to be OK when they ota. Theoretically you did everything right by RUU. In many countries unlocking the boot loader can not void a warranty. Just like installing linux on a computer you bought won't void it. The manufaturer can't just invent escape clauses for when they will or won't cover faulty workmanship. It is like those little stickers that cover some key screw on electronics with "void if broken" are not worth the paper they are printed on.
Workmanship? AT&T blocked bootloader unlocking because of people messing up their phones. This person used an exploit to unlock and root his phone and now wants AT&T to fix the mistake he made by reading half the instructions

I would take it in.. they won't check to to see if it's unlocked... Besides like you said it won't even come on . All you have to say is that you downloaded the update and afterwards it froze up and bricked(obviously you know what you did but they won't) I've been on a couple other threads with HTC one x+ and this seemed to work gl it's worth the try if you think about it. Just don't mention anything like you know about root or flashing anything for that matter lol if they ask about HTCdev unlock say it must be the previous owner lmao
I did this with my inspire awhile back when it first came out and I bricked it second day lmao. Got a new one same day haha stupid att haha

I get through the entire process but still have s-on. Can anyone point me toward better instructions or method of s-off for this phone so I can ota to JB?
Thanks in advance.
Anyone got any idea whether HTC one X(At&t) could be jatgged using USB cable (On riffbox official site they've mentioned that some HTC devices could be JTAGGED using usb, but one x isn't listed. I've got a RIFF BOX JATG, but while i was soldering the RTCK solder pad came off. I wasn't able to figure whether if there's any other place on board where i can solder RTCK cable( Please help if anyone of you has got any idea?)
