Hey everyone im just sold my one s and bought one x but one x is not good as one s im truely sure about that worse battery life worse user interface performance maybe just screen is better i really missing my one s anyway my question is WHY one s's development thread is so weak (?) one s deserve better.
Yay, So it's true, the one s is better!!

Development will thrive when S-OFF starts, I know I might try making a ROM if we get S-OFF, only reason I'm not doing it now is because I don't want to render my warranty void.

Has HTC gave S-off to any of their other devices? I really don't think it will happen.
Don't want to jump in too much. But I had to at least say something. I'm curious what you mean when you say s=off will increase development... We will get more accomplished or attract more developers? Either way we said that for... Many, many months with the amaze... When we finally got s =off its been several months since and there has been no increase in development. Only one example but it was enough for me to think that's not the answer that we need
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
HTC definitely won't give S-OFF. We will probably get it eventually, though. Getting it will not directly make more ROMs, but it will certainly make more people root their devices, which probably will lead to more ROMs.

Not trying to discourage you from building roms but that's just a lame excuse for not doing so now. Do you really think HTC warranty terms will change when we get s-off? Again, lame!

Oh ok thats relocked vs locked. I never had any problems though returning my one s with relocked bootloader but I had to return to T-Mobile and not HTC. Not sure if HTC is strict and checks everything.
I have a one s running viper 1.2 and its amazing on the one s great battery life and performance. This weekend I unlocked and installed the one x viper rom on my big brothers one x and my one s feels way speedier. The one x feels uncomfortable in my hands and looks bulky while the one s is sexy and packed with power. Just wish there was a bit more development for the one s.

DON'T DO IT WHATEVER YOU DO!! It marks your devices warranty as voided and any ROM that doesn't run the same kernel as the ROM you have when you use this won't work. You will have to manually push the boot.img of any new kernel out there. I have to do it on my 3vo3d and it's a *****.

I guarantee that they will. Since there is a root exploit already there is really no reason to do this other than giving the manufacturer proof that you voided your warranty.

I wouldn't say its a ***** but just an added step. Though I will agree you guys will start getting a few threads of people not getting it to boot, because they think its as easy as flashing in cwr. Coming from the desirehd section, even after explaining it to people they can't grasp it.
To me the biggest con, is needing to push the boot.img but that's because I tend to flash roms on the go. Xda method of soff is still the best but i think its a good idea for those devices that dont curently have an soff method.
My mom has a mytouch 4g so I'm thinking of giving this a shot to play around with. Her warranty was void a long time ago(replaced screen,water/coffee damage). It will be fun trying out your roms in this neck of the woods
well what exactly does unlocking bootloader do?? pros and cons??.. sorry i'm new to this stuff...

From what I understand, it only unlocks certain parts of the phone. I doubt it will work as the phone stays son. Only thing that we fan flash is cwr, and roms.
Based on prior post, it feels like its more work to use htc method. I completely agree with everybody else, dont use this method to unlock unless you cannot operate technology(at which point u shouldnt root). I have replaced my phone 3 times under warrenty, its a good phone but has some defects...this basically gives htc proof that we voided their warrenty....however, could we tweak the program so it does waht WE want. I dont know anything about programming but couldnt we have it so that it unlocks the bootloader and autoflashes eng? Then tweak it so that it doesnt send its reports back to htc?
not worth it. we have to do this on the amaze to get root and once its unlocked it cant be relocked without a big fat "RELOCKED" in hboot. as far as warranty goes, htc will still cover you in the event of hardware malfunction, but not if they determine its related to software. thats the word at least...

People have been attempting to contact HTC and letting them know that they are in breach of the open GPL compliance act by not releasing the kernel source, which would allow s-off (I think, that's what I get from it..)
See this thread for more info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629933
They're pretty much saying it will be out in 90-120 days. Don't get why it takes so long when the one x and one v both got it already, but I'm assuming they have some kind of reasoning for it.

I'm not sure that Kernel Source will do anything for S-Off as the kernel is not part of the HBoot. Unless Kernel Source also includes a new S-Off HBoot, which I doubt it. To obtain S-Off an exploit (like with the Sensation) will need to be found or an HTC signed HBoot that provides S-Off.
Kernel Source will allow custom kernels with speed tweeks, OC/UV, OTG, etc. etc.

Exactly. That's why its being requested. All they would have to do would release a signed HBoot with S-OFF for each device. Or provide a universal tool. Either way would work for me.

He did replied to the first responce to his question and then the semi flames started for him not knowing any better. Noob for sure. He will know the difference now or and hopefully search before posting next time. Hopefully by then he knows the true status of his phone that's just something we have to deal with during this stage of a new phone. Once development picks up and there are more threads and more people posting useful information for the noobs to learn from it will make things a lot better.

It's the One XL firmware number. If you were on the most recent version, 2.20, there is no current fix for your predicament. If you were on anything earlier, you may be able to unbrick using the method in the Unbricking Evita thread.
If he had an att one x and it was 4.03 it has to be lower than 2.20 the 4.04 update came with 2.20

You would think incorrectly. HTC reserves to right, and has, voided warranties for flashing custom ROMs.
Its been discussed on the "international" One X forum, that some folks have had warranty claims denied due to having ever flashed a custom ROM, despite returning to stock. Apparently, they still have some way to tell, even if you RUU to stock. Although they will honor the warranty if the bootloader is unlocked, but a custom ROM never installed. Inconsistent and a bit strange.
But HTC warranty service probably varies a bit by region. So its at least worth a try.

Well, from my experiance, ive had all hardware problems. I sent a device s-off but with a stock rom. Had no problems. Probably a good general rule though, to return to stock.

Why take chances? Flash back to stock and s-on. Why give the over-worked, under-paid factory repair tech a reason to deny warranty repair on your borked phone?

Good to know, thanks.
Most folks on here in the US seem to send their phones to AT&T (which seem to be pretty lenient). So its good to hear a report regarding HTC US.
Everywhere else I've read, HTC can be pretty brutal.

Ya bro, ive had all positive experiances with HTC. Im on my third replacement DNA from them. All free replacements. One cracked screen, one bricked, wouldnt take a charge, or boot, and this 3rd, which im waiting on right now as a matter of fact. fed ex should b here any moment. It had a blue blotch, or "smudge, within the screen. But all of them i had absolutely no problems getting them warranted out.
If they get a phone which is s-off, for all they know, they sent out a dev phone on accident. Ive seen it numerous times.

Flashing a custom rom can cause some hardware issues, so I can understand why HTC wouldn't warrant it.
If I was returning to HTC, I would change the CID back and RUU but leave bootloader unlocked and S-OFF, this way, if they decide to update the software to the latest, you can still flash and whatnot.
I thought you had to relock to run the ruu?

If you're S-OFF you don't need to relock to run an RUU and since S-OFF doesn't actually give full access on the oneXL without an unlocked bootloader, best to just leave them both.

Oh ok. I didn't know that. Probably be sending it off tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have it back in a week.

I hope u do too. My latest repair took 22 days. They messed up on the serial #, and closed my repair ticket once by mistake. Lol. But in the end, i received a brand new device, with rootable firmware. And my prior repairs both took under a week.

One more question. How do I get my cid back to stock? I looked through the stickies and all and didn't see an answer?
