If you already unlocked, you should flash twrp then use twrp to flash the prerooted stock rom can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2223918 . It's a BIG waste if yours is unlocked and not taken advantage of it.

Like the title says, which do you think would be the best way to to go, stick with ICS and unlock and root, or install the OTA for Jelly Bean and then unlock and root? Pros and cons? I just got my tablet and I'm trying to figure out the best course of action. Thanks for any insight!

It depends on your ultimate goal. If you are definitely wanting jb and willing to unlock, then I would update first, then unlock, then root. It's a safer path in my opinion. Note - once you update to jb you can't go back to ICS because jb updates partitions and the bootloader itself.

To be honest I'm not sure, from what I've been reading on this forum a lot of people are unhappy with the JB update, and I know there are JB based roms like Black Bean that I can run on the ICS firmware. On the other hand there are others who say the JB update has improved the I/O. I guess the main thing holding me back from updating to ICS is the lack of flash, my kids also use the tablet for watching youtube or embedded videos on kids sites - is that possible with the stock browser on JB?
Also, I know you can update to JB and keep root, but will the unlocker tool from Asus work again after unlocking ICS as well? Thanks again for any advice!
My jb is fine. Others don't like. I'd just read and judge for yourself. Unlock will work for jb. If you've unlocked on ICS, you don't have to unlock again.

Ok thanks. Can you still watch youtube (website or app)? It's my only real concern since my kids need to be able to. Also, if I unlock ICS can I still flash the JB update manually?

I use the YouTube app with no issue.
As for jb flash, the guide in the general section explains the procedure but I didn't use that piece because I upgraded while locked. I unlocked after.

But you CAN install flash on Jelly Bean-upgraded TF300T!
It's just not available on the Play store, but can be 'side-loaded' and installed like any other third party application. ICS version of flash works well on JB.
I can confirm the stock browser on Jelly Bean runs youtube website videos with the flash app. I have the tablet rooted, but not unlocked.
From what I read, the Chrome browser does not play flash, but stock one does.
The link you provided works too! Just have to remember to Request desktop site from the menu in stock browser.
Flash apk 'Guide' / download link here.
Also, if you do not intend changing ROMs, you could just save your root with OTA rootkeeper+SuperSU, update via OTA and resume root courtesy the OTA rootkeeper app. I did that as I didn't want to unlock just yet.

Good to know, thanks!
Recently traded in my iPad for the TF700 and I can say I am indeed pleased with my decision, however I am new to the community and have been recently searching for a method to install CleanROM to make my user experience even better, or as it so claims. So far after reading through a couple of guides I have been able to unlock and permanently void my ASUS warranty, which I am okay with. I'm not sure if I'm rooted or not (lol) but I tried running SuperSU and it said something about not being able to write into the binary files so I guess I'm not. Anyways heres a quick breakdown of what I've done and what I'm hoping to accomplish.
TF700 32 GB
I got the OTA update for JellyBean 4.1.1
I didn't do anything until now so I guess you could say I got the tablet with Jellybean installed on it vanilla.
Unlocked Successfully.
Flashed CWM recovery but for some reason when I try to enter from the boot loader menu the screen just flashes on and off. I've transferred the clean rom zip into the root of my device already. anyone know the problem? Thanks!

I think I know where the little confusion comes from: you need root access to install TWRP from GooManager, but not for flashing anything from recovery.
So, if you've unlocked the bootloader and flashed CWM already, you're all set to flash CleanROM. As you should know, you will end up with a pre-rooted OS, so there's no need to follow through with anything other than customizing to your liking in-OS.

In all probability, that thread is indeed the best place to start from, no matter what your issue or question may be. It's getting pretty comprehensive.
What is the current version of CleanROM
I have done a little research and CleanROM appears to be recognized as fast, stable, and not having issues with assorted features (i.e. GPS, camera, etc.). I have had a hard time finding what the most current version is, what Android version it is based on (i.e. 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.2.1, etc.). Is there an offcial site, including downloads someone can point me towards? Thanks.

The most recent version is CleanROM Inheritance 3.0.3. plus the v.3.0.4 patch; it's based on ASUS's stock Android v4.1.1. ROM.

hi, First I want to describe my problem. Many of tf700 users had update failure when jb came out and I am one of them. I used my tablet with ics until today. I want to update it to jb. I already read some manuel updating guides but no luck I couldnt get it worked. Even followed the guide about dmclient etc. And many of these guides they are redirecting me to asus website for jb firmware. In asus site when choosing OS there is no OS to be selected ! I dont know why. I am on .30 version of ics. Thanks in advance

with twrp you could flash full stock JB firmware (included JB bootloader), or just flash independant JB bootloader, then flash cleanrom. The easiest way is flash JB bootloader then Cleanrom. Make sure your twrp is either version 2.3.10 or newer.
JB bootloader and cleanrom can be found here:

Hello,
I'm new here and yes, I'm a noob.
I recently got myself a Xoom 2 Media Editon (MZ608) as my first tablet. I'm not the kind of person who always needs the latest hard- and software and basicly I'm ok with the installed Android 4.0.4. Unfortunately one of the apps I'd like to use refuses to install on an "old" Android version. And another app, which was already pre-installed, refuses to update for the same reason.
As I said I'm a noob and I never modded a tablet. I searched the web for two hours but now I'm lost. There is so much information and even the guides I found seem to start in the middle. The main problem however is that I found many links and files for Android 3.2.2 and 4.0.4 but nothing helpful for anything more up-to-date.
I really just need anything newer than 4.0.4. It doesn't matter if it's 4.1.x or 4.2.x. Where do I have to go and what do I need to do? Thanks in advance for any help!
I don't believe there is anything more up to date for the media edition Xoom, also no custom recovery is possible so zero custom ROMs.

Thanks for your answer. That's sad news.
Is there at least any way to get an older version of an app from Google Play or to force installation of the new version? And can I get rid of the second app I mentioned? It fails to update and I don't want it anyway.

HI all,
I'm not new to the flashing game, but this asus device seems to be high maintenance.
I wanna install the AOKP 4.2.2 Full Functionality custom rom on my device. Here is how I plan to do it. Can someone verify that this procedure will work as I don't wanna ruin my tablet.
1. I'm gonna root my device using Unlock_v8.apk to unlock bootloader then recovery-jb.img to root.
2. I wanna use GooManager to flash the following files in this order
a) Aokp_R05.zip
b) gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip
c) update.zip (to fix governor issue)
Thats it!! Will this work?
One last question. Is AOKP 4.2.2 Full Functionality a Build or a Milestone?
Thanking you in advance

Be careful, which bootloader do you have installed now?
If it is 4.2, recovery-jb.img may brick your device.
If it is 4.1, I think you need to use Unlock_V7.apk.
Also make sure, which bootloader is supported by the ROM you want to install.
That it has version 4.2 does not mean it will work with the Asus 4.2 bootloader.
There are several threads on upgrading/downgrading the bootloader.
Please read carefully!

Yes, if you are running Asus 4.2 stock ROM, you have bootloader 4.2.
Make sure to read the respective threads carefully. It is not well supported yet and many users bricked their devices by not reading carefully enough.
Specifically: keep away from CWM (recovery*.img) and use only the TWRP version patched specifically for BL 4.2.

Judging from your other comments, you have the new boot loader 4.2, right?
Sorry, but then AOKP 4.2.2 is not for you without downgrading.
For installing TWRP and/or downgrading, use this thread as a starting point; it links to others.
Of course you can skip the part about upgrading to 4.2 boot loader, scroll down a little!
[GUIDE] Update/Recovery/Root/Downgrade Android 4.2.1 on Unlocked/Locked Devices
If you don't want to downgrade, this thread lists the two ROMs that are currently compatible with your bootloader:
[WARINING] DO NOT install a recovery from 4.1 on a 4.2 tablet!
Or you might want to just wait a little. Seems Asus finally released the new kernel source code, so there should soon be more ROMs supporting the new 4.2 boot loader.
