CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. The team is composed of former members of Team Liquid who have forked the code in an attempt to bring greater speed, better coding, and full authorship to code. We are in no way affiliated with Liquid0624. The rom was forked at Liquid beta 3.2.1 and has since undergone major code changes and modifications. Please note that on some devices the kernel is not yet linaro compiled.
We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled roms, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. We strive to not only provide you with the best rom we can build, but also to give back to the Android community and our fellow developers. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy.
Please feel free to look at, build, and use our code on CarbonDev GitHub.
We would like to thank CyanogenMod for their device trees, framework/settings mods and their code that was incorporated into this project. We also extend our gratitude to the devs whose code that we have incorporated. Proper authorship has been maintained and can be viewed on our repository.
Special thanks also go to Slim Rom for some of their features, PA, AOKP, and anyone else we may have borrowed commits from that hasn't been mentioned here. If you feel you have been unfairly left out, please - let us know.
While we make every effort to test these builds as much as possible, we are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device, family, pets, or perception of reality. We ask that you do your part to know your device and know how to recover from problems before you flash! If you have questions, ask your fellow users or ask us in #teamcarbon on freenode IRC.

winner00Our next goal is to put together a build machine, and we need your help. Why do we need a server? Well, a few reasons. The first is the most obvious - we'd like to build more frequently and need the hardware to support it. That means drive space and speed. The more of each we have, the more we can say "hey let's crank out a build," and throw it up on goo so you see an update in goomanager. Right now, building is a pretty intensive all-day process. The second reason is stability. Building from a development machine means that the environment itself is less stable. This translates into, again, fewer builds and more work to make them. Faster building means we can build for more devices, too. All this free time means we can do more cool stuff. We've got a lot of great ideas coming, and every bit of time we can get to work on them means a better rom for you. If you've enjoyed Carbon, please consider a donation toward this goal. Thank you, and we hope you continue to enjoy Carbon!
Download CarbonROM Download has been updated to exclude the JB KB that was evidently messing with everyone BUT me. SORRY!
4.2.2 GappsKB & Data Fixes
There are two small issues I'm still working on. In settings, "Storage" FC's & in Carbon Settings, "Interface" FC's. Minor issues both that I feel will be worked out soon. At this time though I figured full 1080p Video Recording would keep you busy while I'm busy on those. There are several not to be revealed nuggets put in by me that I believe you'll like. You'll just have to flash it & see! Original Thread with Donation LinksENJOY!Team S.W.a.R.M.

Well dangit. It's working perfectly on mine without the original conflicting with it. Just use Root Cleaner to dump it & download the AOSP KB from the Market & it'll be good to go.
Sorry about that!

My goodness this rom looks sexy.

So I'm guessing that the pie controls seen here are from paranoid android and not the new CM ones? Cuz the cm team wrote their own version and it's not fully customizable like PA (yet, hopefully)

On a quick note, Twrp won't flash this rom. So i once again went back to cwm i wasnt sure what exactly what i was suppose to do with the flashable patch, but got stuck in bootloop. So then i left out the patch and was able to get it to boot up. Once booted up i to had issues with the keyboard... as well as setting force closing.... and my menu hardware key didnt seem to work...... Ok so she has some issues. i still love her!! lol

So sorry Cryptic. I test flashed it 3 times before posting it and that JB KB is still working fine on mine. dangit
Just use Root Cleaner to dump the KB & go to the Market & download the AOSP KB & it'll be fine.
The flashable will fix the menu key, KB popup as well as link the data. But you HAVE to let it boot up & settle for a minute & then go back in & flash it. It's weird really. I tried just replacing the file in the full ROM & it bootlooped on me too. When I made a patch.....it went off like clockwork. (mod)
Oh yeah.....Storage & Interface FC's. But I'm looking into it.

The JB KB that's been messing with everyone has been replaced with the original AOSP KB.....rezipped & reuploaded to the OP. Sorry about the confusion everyone.

ok so thats what i was doing wrong i flash the rom then gapps boot it up then wait a few minutes then go back into recovery and flash the patch ok going to try a second time

Unfortunately, since the Froyo version that initially came on our phone, we've been employing the latest and greatest versions with better features. But all of them have still been betas, and apparently this particular one expired today. I do not know if, or how to modify it to avoid expiration. Nor do I currently know where to pickup the next available version. Instead, I recommend doing what I have just finished doing. Install the swype beta installer.
Here's how:
1. First, using a file explorer delete the following files:
- /system/app/Swype.apk
- /system/lib/libswypecorexxxxx.so [the x's stand in for the exact number]
2. Next, head here to download the installer.
3. The rest is pretty self explanatory.
You do have to sign up to be a tester if you're not already, I have been for some times. I assure you, it's a harmless process and won't flood your email account.
I wish I could make this easier, but for some time now, Swype has only been releasing beta versions and they will all expire at some point.
As a bonus, if you follow my instructions, then your Swype personal dictionary will carry into the new Swype beta!
I have been referenced to a site with some themed editions of the most recent versions.
Also, you can check here for a few simpler themed editions I have built into my latest themes.
Please Note that I believe these alternate versions will still expire at some point, thus, the installer is pre-included into my roms.
How Do I Use This ROM?
Regularly updated installation information available on the download page.
Install Options:
1. Incremental Update over the latest version.
2. Install over another custom rom version.
3. Clean install.
Please Note: If you attempt a clean install over ThunderHawk III Final, you will have to wipe your phone and install a second time in order to override the incremental updater.
Where have you been and why not FC09?
I've been going through a very busy part of my life and am the father of a now one month old baby boy. As for the outdated update, it's been sitting on my computer at about 98% complete since my last release, but that last 2 percent has been holding me up. I finally had some free time to take a look and finish the update.
On that note, I will be digging in to FC09, if Samsung doesn't drop something else first. I've also been toying with CM9, but am still heavily disappointed in battery life... It's still a phone and it needs to have power for phone calls when those times come.
Awesome! Thanks so much.
I was just wondering what you have been upto recently as your are of my favorite devs here. Can't say that I blame you though as I've got a newborn at home now too. Best of luck!
Awesome! Any chance this will pull ahead of CleanGB in battery life?

I couldn't honestly say. Some people will always see different results.
Personally, on the 3 phones I test on, none have seen better battery life than with my own setup.
It's not uploaded yet, but will be up soon-ish (tonight or tomorrow, depending). Information both here and on my site will be updated accordingly later.

Been looking forward to your latest release. Tried CM9 (not ready for DD yet) & CleanGB (which is another very good ROM) for a while just for kicks, but let's face it, RandomROM is the bomb!
Hope fatherhood is treating you well. I know you'll hear this a million times, but enjoy every second of it, they really do grow up much faster than you'll want them to.

Fatherhood is great, albeit, busy and loud! But his mother takes the brunt of it while I'm at work half the day! I'm just waiting for him to start playing, then he can slow down .
In the mean time, progress has been had on ThunderHawk IV. A minor change to the theming, and a fight with superuser primarily. Updating apks, adjusting the install process. Trying to get a non-expired Swype. Overall, it's almost there. But I'd like to get this out in one shot, I think I will, so I can play with ThunderHawk V. Damn sprint/samsung and their tiny updates, they often seem a waste of time!
I am guessing that this will be GB and not ICS?

[ROM][AOKP] Nightly (8-4-2012) +flash, camera

NON TYPICAL WARNING! :
This will NOT void your warranty - you did that when you accepted the risk and unlocked your BOOTLOADER
I also take FULL responsibility if this ROM causes any issue with your device and will help in anyway to restore whatever damage I caused (note: this might include wipipng everything though so backup your /SDCARD somewhere b4 flashing to minimize risk). Just message me and we will get you backup.
(^ note this hasn't happened to anyone yet, just want you to know I won't leave you if something does go wrong)
AOKP Based (updated 8/4) V15: V15+Patch Includes AOKP updates, like Themes. added in some stuff from JR6 like camera and flash, chrome (doesn't seem to be working though, so reinstall from market). ^This update can be installed without a wipe (assumging you are coming from my ROM)! So backup update now!
Download both V15 and V15Patch, flash them both (no need to reboot, no need to wipe before flashing either). This updates to Motley's 177 kernel and fixes SU FINALLY!!!!
Working on adding in color for nav bar icons. And I will pull any AOKP changes

*GAPPS and motley's kernel baked in.
_motley's Kernel is great, I won't even try to build my own for the moment if his work keeps up.
Check it out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775798
At first: I built this based on source, took forever to get the kinks so it kind of built. Then pulled the rest from CM10 ports to make it finally boot.
hope to get the source working from scratch and have this as a full time rom BASED on AOKP and CM, with added features.
Thanx to AOKP and CM for all their hard work!!! without them we would have no where to start
source to come, please let me know what is broken so i can remove it and then fix it piece by piece.
ALSO, let me know what you want in this rom! like a tablet mode is a must, will be adding a switch for it also. what else you want?
Thanks also to:
AOKP for getting us to JB again, and to the toro community for their efforts earlier, which showed me we can finally start working on this!
Winner00 for the grouper files
CM for getting the us to where we are today
nocoast for getting me interested in doing this myself in his Google+ hangout one day
Changelog:
V15:
-Fixed Superuser
-Fixed Chrome
-Rebased on nightly + goodies
V14:Includes AOKP updates, like Themes.
-camera (Paulobrien)
-flash in browser (Paulobrien)
-chrome (doesn't seem to be working though, so reinstall from market). (Paulobrien)
-Rebased on nightly (biggest update was Themes)
V13:
- I am also trying out the launcher by SGT7 as I see they have worked on it and focus on tablet view a little, where AOKP was using Nova, and it doesn't work correctly with our DPI.
-Rebased on nightly
First! Wow, first time!

at the moment this is REALLY alpha, for AOKP itself. They haven't made a lot of stuff work in JB yet, so it's limited. The optimizations though should all be there from a ROM perspective, so should be smooth. Gotta work on Kernel optimizations and fixing (or removing) the toggles that aren't important. I removed a few and I noticed it now put the image to toggle relationship out of wack, so I am working on that. Might put the tablet mode on hold for a little while as there are a few options out there and I can't decide which way I want to go yet.
Awesome work! Thank you for this. Running smoothly from start, will report back.
Missing a few things from latest test build I noticed.
Nav bar options, volume wake, center clock.
Thanks again, looking forward to your progress!

ya I am now having to piece it all together to see why it's not pulling. I built this literally 7 hours ago so ALL of the commits should be there. Unfortunately the grouper pull from the tablet make files which haven't been touched yet, as they are all focusing on the Tuna to get it as close to what it was I assume for JB then, port it to everything else. So I am going to have to watch the commits for the phone side and integrate it to us, and then trouble shoot this crappy phablet UI which who KNOWs how many curve balls that will have. Might focus more on just making it tablet mode to help for the time being. We will see. I also have NEVER built a rom before, and can't seem to get the damn thing to work. The bootloader, ramdisk, etc. is all screwy at the end so this hurt me a little. Going to pull a full CM10 build I think also to compare and see how they are getting the grouper to work, even though their manifests look soooo similar. I'm missing something. back to work on these toggles

ok time to get a little shut eye then back to it, I was hoping to pull some stuff straight from the working toro build, but crashes everything. I am goign to go back to code in a few hours, compare differences in phone vs tablet, and then compare changes they pushed in ICS to help close this gap. Have a lot of free time this week so I'll get it all worked out.
Isn't my first time coding by any means. But it is my first time building on android. The repo for this is huge so took a while to wrap my head around.

back and working, navbar is top priority now. CM finished pulling while I caught some shut eye so that should help the bootloader issue I hope I was having (requiring me not to need to hack the final files together into a zip would be nice!) Will update on bootloader (then purge the toggle) soon. Then might look at tablet mode, wonder how nav bar will react in that..... hmmmmm time to boot the latest on my nexus to check real fast.

JellyBean 4.x conversation -- All other threads about JB will be closed or deleted.

So, newbs open up a new request thread for jellybean every other day.
I'm started this thread (and the moderators stickied it) so you guys can talk on and on about it here while we (teamacid) continue to NOT work on it.
The reason we are NOT working on it, is because we are in the middle of porting our device to the aries kernel on the ICS branch. This will making porting to JellyBean easier... after we port to aries on the ICS branch.
As promised, I'm going to go into detail about aries in a separate post in this thread and reference it here when it is done.
For now, stop opening new threads on:
Why don't we have jellybean?
Can I request jellybean?
Where is android 4.1.x/4.2.x for this device?
...etc...
We will let you know when we start working on JellyBean so you can start messing around with it.
Of course, after that is going we can start on AOKP, and other "Built from source Roms".
I think this thread should be sticky for the newbs to see lol

If not worse... I have no clue, I haven't tried it. I'm sure it would have every problem ics would have. If not more.
It doesn't have all of the ics changes cherry-picked.
I'd rather focus my attention on ics. Finish whack-a-mole there and then go on to jb.
I know that people get anxious, we felt this when we started porting cm7.
Wait for it and it will come.
sgs4g why u no have jellybean??? <3 ya bryan!

The reason we are NOT working on it, is because we are in the middle of porting our device to the aries kernel on the ICS branch. This will making porting to JellyBean easier... after we port to aries on the ICS branch.

And to be honest this is the smart way to go about it so I don't see why anyone would complain about this. Thanks for your work
I would just be happy with Touchwiz 5 with the lockscreen and all. I like ICS enough and am really not all that bothered about JellyBean.

I think everyone here is more interested in a perfect release of ICS then a broken jellybean build
Oh by all means, I'm not saying to release something buggy. I know working on two projects at the same time would he dumb. The team is being smart. Hopefully, maybe someday CM can be officially supported for this phone.
I'm just saying don't settle down for CM9, accept that it's the best.. for now. Not always. CM10 has some great new additions that I love. I have a Vibrant and a SGS 4G, CM10 is the only reason I'm still choosing the Vibrant.
Other than my Nexus S is out for repair. xD

Yup. I was running CM10 on my at&t note.
Here is another few reasons I'm not so keen on rushing to get it on sgs4g.
* Bugs (every cm10 build comes with a new nightly bug. Its a preview release!)
* Not all apps on the market support JB yet.
* I dislike porting to a buggy rom. I will honestly wait until a more stable RC is released.
For now my note is back to stock with a manual root.
I might go back to cm 9.1.0. Idk.
I like the s-pen applications anyways.
Thanks for posting...it's a sensible approach for sure. From all the other devices I've seen, the kernel is the key given that ICS and Jellybean are not that much different. Once those devices had a stable 3.0 kernel (most of the time from an ICS leak for the device), homegrown JB ROMs usually followed close behind.
Keep up the good work!
We could also port to AOSP JB I guess until CM is ready

You probably notice more bugs than I do since you delve much deeper into Android than I do, but honestly I hardly notice any bugs using JB on my HD2. It runs just as smoothly as the GB roms, and I get just as much battery life. Really, the only thing better about JB is Google Now (to me, at least), everything else is more or less the same.

THESE BUILDS ARE FOR US CELLULAR AND CRICKET WIRELESS ONLY. DO NOT INSTALL UNLESS YOU ARE CERTAIN WHAT YOU ARE DOING. IF THIS BRICKS YOUR PHONE OR BLOWS UP YOUR PARENTS LIKE AT THE END OF TIME BANDITS WHEN THEY TOUCH THE EVIL THING IN THE TOASTER DON'T COMPLAIN.
ACTUALLY YOU SHOULD PROBABLY LET US KNOW IF YOUR PARENTS BLOW UP. THAT SEEMS LIKE AN EXTREME RESULT THAT SHOULD BE AVOIDED.

Exactly what I was thinking. *grabs pitchfork*
cricket and us cellular's closest cousins are verizon on the d2 platform. they're virtually identical.
Same reason why the metro pcs variant is in sprint. those platforms are so tiny they will never have their own forums. I've been through this with the mods before, and the conclusion was the best thing was to just mark the posts aggressively so everyone knew what was being posted.

Yeah, I took out the stk.apk just in case! We don't have GSM, so it isn't necessary anyway. But it gave us issues before, so I figured I'd just remove it preemptively. I have not had a single issue yet on this ROM, it's awesome. I just can't center the lockscreen clock. And haven't found the statusbar transparency thing yet. But otherwise best 4.2 ROM going.

I'm having no issues with camera on this ROM. I would recommend a full wipe and reflash
Sent from my SCH-R530U using Tapatalk 2
First off my English is fine, I have lived in america my whole life born and raised. Second I am not worked up. I work any where from 12-20 hours a day 7 days a week, and I was very tried when I wrote this. Sorry if I didn't make it clear. That is all I wanted to know. So I will reflash and see if it fixes the issue.
It is working fine for me, but on CM10.1 it would only work once in a while, even if I did the whole "tap screen to focus" fix before taking a picture. But this camera just seems to work. I would do a super clean wipe, including internal storage, data, system and reflash.

CREDITS TO THIS PORT
InflatedTitan- His magnificent Porting
rohan32-his 4.2.2 kernel
Our next goal is to put together a build machine, and we need your help.

Haven't dug too deep but I must say...this is good. No tearing/stutter (or very very little if any). Did notice that turn screen on when charger plugged in/out did not work....that's a sweet feature never understood why that isn't default on android.
Having a little bit of trouble with WiFi and signal drops but it will probably stabilize once its been running awhile longer.
Good work!!!!

I've been running this since I ported and must say this is one of the smoothest 4.2 ROMs... Part of it is due to the awesome carbon dev team, a big part is rohans kernel.
