Motorola Electrify tweaking for [ROM][GB] Hybrid (Stock/CM7), Multilingual, Deblur - General Topics

Since I am new to posting on the forum, I am not able to post this to the Developer thread where this belongs, but would like it to be available for people searching for an answer to this problem.
This is regarding the thread [ROM][GB] Hybrid (Stock/CM7), Multilingual, Deblur
The thread is made for the Photon 4G, but can also be used on the Electrify, and in particular, the locked 2.3.5 version of the 4G.
There has been a ton a research done to get it cleaned up to work on the Electrify, but one thing I found was that Google Play was still having some issues resolving the Electrify as a proper phone with some of the mods out there.
This is mainly informative for anyone who has loaded this ROM onto an Electrify and not been able to access some items in Google Play.
Google Play uses information from your build.prop file to figure out what items in it are compatible with your device.
The biggest item with this is LCD Density. I throttled mine back to 180 to get more screen realestate, though that doesn't completely make sense, since the higher numbers are supposed to be more dense.
Either way, it worked for that, but also screwed up some items in Google Play.
This can be resolved in 2 ways:
1) Reverting to the standard of 240 for the device resolved this issue
2) Using the LCD Density Modder pro version will load a modified Google Play apk that will make it function properly
But this still didn't fully resolve the problem. These items still needed to be changed to get this back to recognizing the device as a Motorola Electrify:
ro.product.model=Motorola Electrify
ro.product.brand=MOTO
ro.product.name=uscc_us
ro.product.model.number=MB853 (this is actually missing from the ROM's build.prop)
ro.build.description=sunfire-user 2.3.5 4.5.1A_SUN_USC_19.0 19 release-keys
ro.build.fingerprint=MOTO/uscc_us/sunfire:2.3.5/4.5.1A_SUN_USC_19.0/19:user/release-keys
ro.mot.hw.uaprof=http://uaprof.motorola.com/phoneconfig/motomb853/Profile/motomb853.rdf
cdma.nbpcd.supported=false
ro.build.version.full=Blur_Version.45.1.190.MB853. USC.en.US
A couple of other mods I had done through rooting tools caused the following changes, but I don't think they are related to Google Play not working, but I wanted to be sure. I plan on changing them back shortly, so if there is no other post, they work fine:
dalvik.vm.heapsize=42m
ro.telephony.default_network=4
I hope this is useful information for some of you out there.

[Q] Problems with AppStoreHQ on G Tab

Brand new G Tab owner. Just charged and started up last night. I received the notification of the 3389 release immediately and went ahead and let the update download and installed.
I'm just checking things out at this point keeping her stock for a while. I have a lot to learn about Android in general so I'm in no hurry to begin mods.
In just following the suggested links I ran into a problem with AppStoreHQ. There are two apps there, can't seem to find them on any of the other 'approved' app stores, Google TV Remote and the Nook reader from B&N.
I cannot install either of them, or any app for that matter, from AppStoreHQ. Anybody else having this problem.
I called Tech Support, thought it would be a good first test. I was surprised to get a real person in under 2 minutes. He was helpful, said he would try it on their G Tabs, and put me on hold. He came back in a couple of minutes and said they are having the same problem. He would report it to the software team and there should be a fix in 24 hours.
He also told there will be a general update for the G Tab in the next week.
Any help would be appreciated, even another way to get the apps I'm looking for.

You might want to go investigate the custom firmware threads in the developer sub-forum... They all have a method for gaining near complete access to the market.
OTOH if you actually like the TapnTap UI, you can probably find the Nook and Google TV remote apks somewhere online, then read about using adb to install them from your computer, or how to enable installation from foreign source directly on the gTab(can't remember if it's on by default in stock or not since I gave up on TnT a LONG time ago and have pretty much settled on TnT lite ATM...)
[EDIT]
...just remembered... search this forum(and maybe the dev forum too) for info about applying some mods to stock firmware (root, Google market, etc.) if you REALLY want to stay stock... you're not going to learn a whole lot about Android in stock UI though as it's buried under the TapnTap UI... Vegan "ROM"(firmware) is closer to a vanilla Android 2.2 release...
[/EDIT]
Installation from foreign source enabled by default, since there is no official Android Market, if it were disabled no software could be installed. If you find the '.apk' files download them to the device anf tap them then install.
3389 has a bad bug of slowing down when woken from sleep state. Only cure is to reboot. so you may want to look into one of the unofficial but from Viewsonic updated, if you want to keep that "stock' feel. If not there are many options for alternets that each have a loyal following.

[Q] LG GT540 - Best ROM?

I just got an LG GT540 for traveling abroad (I use a Droid X on Verizon for most of the year). It was a good deal, but it came with Android 2.1 and I want to be able to use apps off the SD card.
When I started searching around for ROM's, I found a plethera of SwiftDroid developer forums and was about to install v1.4b when I found out that most people were expecting v1.5 to come out today, and it did (v1.5FM). Most people seem to like what they're seeing but they keep referencing FastBoot which I do not have. I'm fairly technical (rooted my Droid X, used Clockwork Recovery to install Liberty v1.5 ROM on that, etc) but I need a basic user guide for using FastBoot --that is if I decide to use this SwiftDroid v1.5FM rom that I am 20 seconds away from being done downloading... HOWEVER, there is one guy who posted that the camera button (physical hard button on the side of the phone) is not letting him take a photo, meaning he has to hit the soft button on the screen, which I would find extremely annoying. I'm also worried that the google apps aren't included (but can't ask the people in the dev forum cuz I'm a newbie). I want to be able to use the Market, Gmail, etc, right afterwards. My Liberty ROM wasn't missing anything on my Droid X aside from the BLUR and Verizon-specific stuff that I didn't like/caused lag anyway (yay, no more task killer processes required to kill other task processes haha).
Anyone else know if the camera button issue on the SwiftDroid 1.5FM rom is a widespread issue or just that one guy's issue? Do you know if I'm going to need to install the Google Apps myself? Know where to get FastBoot and a basic guide for using it? Other comments? Perhaps I'm missing out on a much better ROM opportunity I should research?
Thanks!

Market Apps Incompatible??

I never came across this issue with my G2, but during google's 10 cent sale I bought a few games (asphalt 6 was the main one I wanted) and when I first got my sensation it came preloaded with N.O.V.A 2
Since rooting my phone neither one of those is now available, they don't show up in the market and when I tried to push the apk file it still doesn't work. When I check the market on my desktop it says my phone is incompatible. I have tried multiple roms, thinking it may have been a sense 3.5 issue, but it happens on 3.0 roms as well.
Have any of you run into this issue? Why does this happen, and how can I fix it?

I can't comment on before or after rooting my phone because I did it straight away, but I can't 'see' either of those games in the Market. I also can't buy Shadowgun. Apart from those people running pirated copies, there are clearly also people who can buy and download these games. I just don't get it. At first I thought people must be using Chainfire's Tegra app, but I don't think it's just that. I guess it should be possible to change something on the build.prop but I can't work out exactly what the key difference is.
After I posted I found this:
http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-in...-from-android-market-for-unsupported-devices/
I haven't tried it yet but I'll post back when I do. Nova 2 worked just fine on my phone before I rooted it, and I bought asphalt6 with my phone (again, before I rooted and installed new roms) I'm assuming not everybody has these problems, so I'd love to know why some of us have issues and others don't?
Thanks for the link. I'm debating whether or not to flash a stock ROM first to see what happens.
Also, the other factor that clouds the issue is that developers can remove devices from their compatibility list in the Market as and when they choose. For example, looking on their forum, this appears to be the case with the Sensation and Madfinger's Shadowgun.
So from what I'm learning I need the original buildprop from the stock sensation in order to make this work. I tried the directions from the link I posted and clearly changed something because I got an email welcoming me to the nexus s, but my market still tells me asphalt 6 is not available for my sensation.
Here's to add to the link posted.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20048765&postcount=5
Thanks, I'll try those edits and see what happens.
Purely for info. Flashing back to a stock ROM (1.50.401.1) didn't work for me, though I was still S-off, just in case that matters in some way that I don't realise.
Tried altering my build.prop as per the OP's link but it didn't work for me. Haven't tried kpjimmy's link yet.
I'd still like to find out for sure if anyone can buy these games without an altered build.prop, and if so, why? (excluding anyone who's using chainfire's app...)
So after spending an hour trying things out my phone's nearly dead and I'm at work so I won't be able to recharge it until I get in the car, but as I type it's downloading asphalt 6. It also thinks it's a Nexus S as it asked me if I wanted to update to IceCream sandwich. A little scary as I'm assuming that would brick my phone. Anyhow, here's what I've done so far:
Clear Market Cache & Data. Settings > Applications > All > Market > Clear data.
Launch ES File Explorer. Enable both Root Explorer and Mount File System under Settings > Root Settings.
Navigate to /system. Here you will find the build.prop file. Take a backup of it by copy-pasting it to your SD card.
Open & edit /system/build.prop
Change the following lines to make your phone identify as a GSM Nexus S:
ro.product.model=Nexus S
ro.product.brand=Google
ro.product.name=sodu
ro.product.device=crespo
ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
ro.build.fingerprint=google/soju/crespo:2.3.4/GRJ22/121341:user/release-keys
ro.build.description=soju-user 2.3.4 GRJ22 121341 release-keys
Save file and remember to change the chmod type button back to read only in the system folder
Reboot the phone
My build prop had 2 entries for build description and I edited both of them. I'm going to try to get NOVA 2 as well, I'll post back after I try playing both of them. I just don't understand why it was so flipping difficult to get these?
And why don't all rooted/rom'ed sensations have this issue?
My last 2 questions I might find on my own, but maybe somebody has an answer so I don't have to experiment. If I wipe/reset and reinstall my current rom, will that rebuild the build.prop file back to original?
AND....if I do get both these games working and use Titanium to back them up, will I be able to reinstall them without re-editing the buildprop file again?
More to come, stay tuned...

Shadow Gun was available to us on the market until very recently.
Madfingers found out that there were driver issues that they couldn't fix... or something like that, so they pull it for the Senny for now.
there is a sticky on their forum regarding it.
far as Asphalt 6, log onto Gameloft's site via your phone(user agent set to Android) and you can purchase it directly from the site.
That still doesn't answer the question of why isn't the Market working correctly?
I'm assuming u have a US sensation? My thinking is if you flashed a Rom that is based on the euro sensation then maybe the market identifies the phone as a euro sensation and blocks certain apps that aren't available in Europe....maybe?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
I started with a US updated to the latest release. I rooted it and tried in this order (or close to it):
Android Rev. 4.1
Energy
Elegancia
TMXSS (maff1989's rom)
I had forgotten about asphalt and nova until I was on Elegancia, but on the TMX rom, which is a stock us version basically, it didn't work. I really don't understand the inner workings of android, I'm not even close to a developer level, so if this might be a stupid question...does the buildprop file change with each rom? Basically if I reflash the rom I'm using now it'll rebuild the buildprop?
Yes, build prop changes with each ROM
Ouzo,
this doesn't answer the original question, but it's looking like going directly to Gameloft's website worked for me, at least with Nova 2. The problem though is even though I paid for it once through market the Gameloft site doesn't recognize that, so if I want either game I am going to need to either pay twice or request a refund from google.
Good news that you can download NOVA via Gameloft's website, though to be honest I'm not going to do that because I don't want to create a second account to access their games. I didn't like the idea of giving them my mobile number - knowing my luck I'd end up getting a load of marketing calls from all over ; )
I'm also just feeling stubborn about this. There must be people on here who know. Hopefully they'll read this thread and enlighten us. I'm going to carry on experimenting with other ROMs and see if any unlock the reason why.... Wonder if Sensation XE owners/ROM users can see NOVA etc in the market?

[Q] Best ROM choices for a hybrid Droid/Milestone X

Hello all and especially to any that can help,
I recently purchased a Droid X from a co-worker who had upgraded to a Droid Razr (carrier Verizon, Android 2.3.4, model MB810). I found out later that the phone had already received the .621 OTA update and was unrootable (someone may have found a method by now).
I did 2 days of researching before I attempted any changes in the phone and found that although a reversal of the .621 update was impossible (again the info on this may have changed), the Milestone X's sbf could be used. I downloaded the flasher program and 2 sbf's for the Milestone X, tried both and liked the larger one better. The phone now reads as a Milestone X (carrier Alltel, Android 2.3.5, model MB809).
The question I have is "what is the best custom ROM to use with this device"?
Cares and Don't Cares:
1) Carrier: I won't be placing this device on any carrier's network - Wifi and Bluetooth are good enough for me. I will be using a hack I found on these forums to be turning off the carrier radio later. This also means I won't be needing this device to have any phone functionality. This is basically going to be used as a mini-tablet replacing my 3 Craig tablets (#1 broke, #2 has damage to a daughter board - I think a chip burned out, #3 is refusing to reliably boot, made #1.5 from parts of #1 and #2).
2) Bluetooth keyboard connectability: The only program that hints at this is Bluekeyboard JP and it mainly uses Apple products. I have a Freedom i-Connex keyboard I would like to use and maybe others in the future.
3) Multiple mounting points: Currently this device only offers 2 points, even after rooting: a fake CD-Rom, and the sd-card. If there is a way to create a folder/directory and make it USB accessible, I would love to know how. I use my portable devices as reference file storage.
4) Reduced bloatware: I won't be needed phone software (see #1) and I don't need the prepackaged games nor social software (they cause more trouble then they are worth to me - namely see the news about TWD - texting while driving - accidents, social website enabled stalking, and other physical and informational damage). Also, other than program(s) to backup the installed ROM/RAM (Nandroid?), no prepackaged backup program (seen that most people prepack Titanium, I like Astro file manager better).
5) I know this one may be next to impossible to get; WINE: emulating a whole OS just for 1 program is wasteful. I would love to have a mobile copy of "DC Creator" (character and gadget builder) from Mike Love for DC Heroes and Blood of Heroes (Mayfair Exponential Gaming System program, I updated the dc_data.dat file to include new powers from Blood of Heroes and the Web, file is now over 70k).
6) ICS: I know that people are working on this one for this device, several problems to go (like the camera), and a thanks goes to them for even attempting this.
During my research, CyanogenMod 7 and 9 kept coming up. If I read my info right, these are not actual OS updates but instead mods that give some next gen functionality to the current roms (Froyo gets Gingerbread mods, Gingerbread gets Honeycomb/Ice Cream Sandwich mods). I haven't tried either yet so I don't know if any of these would help me or load my system down more.
My thanks to the whole device hacking community for enabling us to get the most out of our devices (whether it be android, iOS, PSP, PS2, ..... you get the point).
Sorry for the long post but I wanted to get as much info to whoever could help as possible.

Miui or cyanogenmod9
this roms are perfect
Thank you for the information. I'll dl both next time I'm near a high-speed connection (dial up at home sucks, thank you CenturyLink for avoiding my area for yet another year).
Hmm, MIUI appears to be only useable if you are upgrading from Froyo - I'm Gingerbread and I don't know if it will revert back to Froyo - remember this phone has already received the infamous .621 OTA update. It was probably a fluke I found that the Alltel SBF worked. So MIUI appears to be out of the question.
The Cyanogenmod 9 links I found appear to be dead when I checked from work (blocked?), but I also found no information on requirements. I see that you need both that and the Gapps files to use this.
Has anyone else gone the path that I have to SBF and root my device (Verizon Droid X Gingerbread 2.3.4 -> SBF -> Alltel Milestone X Gingerbread 2.3.5, rooted) and applied a custom rom afterwards?
Anyone have complete instructions on how to install CM9 for the Droid/Milestone X ->still a noob here<- that has taken the same path as me (and any further information on getting the camera working, last update looks to have been in February)?
Thanks again for any help.
Anyone know of a stable download link for Cyanogenmod 9?
All links I have found are either dead (404), 'server down for maintenance', or access denied (403).

[UTIL][APP]Lenovo Security / LeSec app (anti-virus/spam/theft/firewall)

Edit: Important: The newer V4 version of LeSec may no longer be usable for non-Chinese speakers. See this post #17 here, also to discuss alternatives
For all you Lenovo users out there,
I wanted to (re-)introduce this application. Because I have the impression that many Lenovo phone users rather quicly move on to migrated ROM's from for example APKHOT/Smileyvvv/Etotalk etc, where this app is cooked out.
You may want to reconsider going back to it, if it will still work on your phone with whatever ROM you have. It is really a very useful utility:
Firstly, it is a virusscanner. Not sure how useful a virusscanner is on Android, and as I want to avoid that discussion in this thread, that is the last I say about it.
It is also anti-spam. You can black- or whitelist SMS and Calls. See screenshots for an impression. Very useful.
Anti-theft is there. Send SMS upon SIM change, or remotely instruct the phone to send location or self-destruct. I suspect, but did not try, the SMS instruction is stored in /system, so a data-wipe will not undo this. But a good hacker will fully flash, so it only protects against noob thieves, like all anti-theft apps.
But those are common functions, readily availible in other apps. But now for the interesting feature:
It has a firewall. If that is the correct name. Or an app-wall. An permission-wall? You know those apps that you download that for some reason want permission to send SMS? Why does it need that? Or why does it want to read my contacts?
Well, you can per-app decide to block a permission. This app does not need to read my contacts. That app does not need to send SMS. And it will show you if an app tried to anyway. How cool is that?
Guest- and Childmode. Hide some apps. After all, we do not want junior to see daddies tripple-X rated apps. Or the wife. Which is why you can also hide certain contact's and call-history entries (wink, wink). It may also apply to banking apps and your bookie, though that is a bit more boring. Oh, and in Child mode the radio turns of as we want to protect junior from radiation...
Some of you that use Etotalk or APKHOT ROMS may have noticed the notification area buttons to these last two that were dead because this app was missing.
We could of course worry about whether this app in itself is not a spy, reporting everything you do to the Chinese government. But you may not be aware that this is true for *any* Chinese clone you buy. Typically those clonemakers do not release the kernel or framework source, so such a spy would be in there, not in a de-installable app. And if you are really worried about it, make sure you get a phone where you can install CyanogenMod compiled from source.
Personally, I doubt either Lenovo or China is interested in me, and if they do it means they have a Infinitesimals bigger datastore to clog their machinery before they find something on people like Liu Xiaobo or Tenzin Gyatso, which is actually a good thing. But I suspect the app is simply without such sinister intentions.
Anyway, attached is the version I got from my phone. From a Lenovo A750 ICS 4.0.3 S306. But I suspect it works with any phone that uses the Lenovo Framework, so any Lenovo ICS phone that has a not too heavily modded ROM. It did also work on the ICS 4.0.3 Lenovo P700 ROW S113 (Rest Of World edition) edition.
I provide update.zip installers for MT6575 and MT6577 (because I know their partition table). It probably also works on Lenovo Framework phones based on MT6573/MT7513 or even MSM7227/MSM7527, maybe even GB ones. But then you need to take the two *.apk files from inside the zip file, and copy them manually into /system/app, as the update.zip installer will not work for that.
But do try, and please report back if it does or does not work on your phone/rom. There is also an uninstall package. Oh, and you are messing with /system, so as always, at your own risk, ensure you can always flash back a working ROM or have a Nandroid backup before you experiment.
Your zip didn't work on my A789, which is using the apkhot based rom available on forum.china-iphone.ru. After extracting the apk files, copying to /system/app and manually setting permissions, it's working like a charm.
Thanks, I really missed it. On the most recent cooked roms, I miss many things available on the Lenovo official ones, like the fm transmitter, or the butterfly-like widget on the default home screen. Some cookers tend to leave out any non standard apps without even taking some time to know what they do. Not all Chinese apps are rubbish or impossible to understand, and Lenovo is a serious company.
Ok, here you have the FM radio and transmitter of the A789, but it probably does not work, as it is Odex'ed.
And I uploaded seperate installers for MT6575 and MT6577
Also, on your APKHOT, please confirm it actually blocks permissions and blacklists SMS. I am not sure how much the APKHOT deviates from the Lenovo Framework, so merely being able to install and configure may be too soon to tell.
PS: why not try my factory-cleaned A789 ROM? It comes with all those apps by default, and I now have 3 positive feedback.
Come to think of it, why did I take this security app from A750, when A789 is newer....
Edit: Because they are both the same version. In fact the LeSec has not changed since Dec 2010, according to the internal dex binary.
I have tested call blocking and it works, but it isn't so important, since call blocking is a built in feature of the Mediatek framework. You can block calls from any contact you have on your Google account just out of the box, and it works great. I've tested older phones which used older Mediatek chipsets and that feature has been part of the Mediatek framework since MT6573.
The FM transmitter won't work that way, since it is odexed. But it doesn't work deodexed, either. I've just got a deodexed version of the app, thanks to a friend from another forum, and it doesn't work very well. It works, but I had to stick the phone to the antenna on my radio in order to hear something. People I've talked to say that the transmitter works great on the stock Lenovo roms, so maybe it's just some incompatibility with the apkhot roms.
The only reason I'm not using your rom (which I have downloaded) is that I wanted to setup the phone in Spanish, and the rom I'm currently using is the only one I've found which contains that language. Just a quick question: is there any noticable performance increase on the s227 based roms? If so, I don't care using the phone in English, since I just want the most feature rich rom.
Thinking it twice, I've remembered another reason. One of the things I like most about the apkhot rom I'm using is that the external sdcard is mounted on /sdcard and not /mnt/sdcard2, which avoids problems with many apps. I tried one of the newest apkhot roms, based on s227, and none of the tricks to exchange /sdcard and /mnt/sdcard2 worked with it.
I'll reply to that in the A789 thread, as we seem to deviate from the security app.

I remember there was an update of that app on my A750 with your ROM. Now with apkhot I installed that package posted above and I have the older / original version. But there is no update offered...
That was probably on the S148 Gingerbread ROM. That one has an older version. I know, because I messed up trying to install it, as I had that older GB version and the new ICS one both in my Titanium backup. Also, the Dec 2010 date is probably false, I just got OTA ROW_S114, and it too had all files timestamed to Dec 2010. But I am certain the LeSec from S306 and S227 are the same, the binary compared identical. Official version is V3.5.1.3.5.2.0041 and the update button tells me there is no newer.
Every so often it does update the virus/blacklist signatures, but that is not the app itself. Current virus signature 2012.09.14 Current harasment (blacklist) 2012.07.11
But if you find a newer one, please do let me know.
I've been trying LeSec further and it works, but I found a problem I wasn't able to fix, so, until I found a solution, I've freezed it with Titanium Backup. The problem is that I'm using Go SMS Pro, instead of the default messaging app, since I need to write SMS in Spanish and the default app doesn't support Spanish characters like accents, etc. Go SMS Pro works, but every time I send an SMS, LeSec thinks an unauthorized app is trying to send an SMS in the background, and shows a popup to let you decide whether to allow it or not. I haven't found a way to disable that, and it's a bit annoying having to click two buttons everytime I want to send a message.
Its probably a silly question, but you did go into LeSec->ChargeShield-SMS and ensure that your app was allowed to send SMS in background?
Probably for reasons of 'likely form of attack' the SMS apps are (unlike other permissions) by default in a 'Warning' setting, but if the warning does not come to the foreground on your phone, it may simply not work.
Also, rather than freezing LeSec completely, you could go into ChargeShield, and simply turn of the ChargeShield.

But I am certain the LeSec from S306 and S227 are the same, the binary compared identical. Official version is V3.5.1.3.5.2.0041 and the update button tells me there is no newer.

No, I used the S148 just some days and updated to your S306 V1.2 and simply stayed there, because it works very well. After some time it offered me an update and the user interface changed a bit with that update. The way how you set privacy on app level and so on. The update button itsself never worked for me either.
Sadly, backup never worked on that rom. I found that out as I wanted to try apkhot. To be honest, I didn't try on apkhot, yet.
A few minutes ago, I was offered a 4.1.4 version and installed it. Now it's purely chinese
Maybe I have to reboot the phone for english...
From the design it is a version newer than the version I wrote about...

I don't want the old one back - I want this one to be english
How do I save it? Any idea where it has downloaded it's update? This was done within the app...
Well, it would have simply replaced the two apk's in the /system/app folder.
So look for:
LenovoSafeCenter.apk
LenovoSageWidget.apk
or something similar, it could have changed its name, or added a 3rd component.
Got the files?
Sent from my Lenovo A750 using xda app-developers app
Well, it seems that Lenove Security (LeSec for short, and LenovoSafeCenter officially) is becoming less usuable. As mentioned above, it is fully Chinese, no Engrish anywere.
I had a look at the new V4 of it, even decompiled it. Not only 100% Chinese, but is hardcoded in the app, there are no resource xml files that we could translate. A big pity.
Also, there is one app (Waze, a social car navigation app) that in the latest version is incompatible with LeSec. Though it is at this moment the only incompatibility I ran into, it is also a pity.
That may mean we need to find an alternative:
For now, these two has shown up:
LBE : Somehow, I think LBE is actually the company that makes Lenovo LeSec. Or at least, there logo is shown in the about menu of LeSec as part of the "in cooperation with" mentions. Maybe the reason why the free LeSec is limiting itself?
Anyway, I am trying out LBE at the moment, to see how it works.
pDroid : pDroid looks promising. Specifically, they are promising ICS support, but right now, only GB, so one to keep an eye on, but not availible to us just yet.
Permissions Denied : A Paid app. But if it works well, it may be worth it. Not looked at it yet.
So, LBE seems to work well. It does not have the hiding of apps for 'child mode' and 'privacy mode'. Nor does it have the 'anti-theft' or 'virus-scan' but it does the permissions thing well.
I tested, it nicely prompted/blocked permissions. And to be honest, using a slight more clear interface. If it is permissions, which was indeed what I was after, LBE seems to do the job. I also like I can block internet use separate for 3G and Wireless. Very useful.
One problem though: Waze is failing in the same way as with LeSec. Even if I make it a 'trusted' app. It seems the latest version of Waze simply does not like to be looked at too closely.
anti theft
I cannot input number In anti theft . for ex if I write +35989xxxxx I need two more digits but it does not allow it. If I write in national format 0899.... I have to write more digits than the phone number has. Any solution?
As mentioned, while I started enthusiastic about LeSec, it is now focussing too much on China alone. Not as good internationally.
Try using one of the other anti-theft solutions.
