[Q] Problems with AppStoreHQ on G Tab - G Tablet General

Brand new G Tab owner. Just charged and started up last night. I received the notification of the 3389 release immediately and went ahead and let the update download and installed.
I'm just checking things out at this point keeping her stock for a while. I have a lot to learn about Android in general so I'm in no hurry to begin mods.
In just following the suggested links I ran into a problem with AppStoreHQ. There are two apps there, can't seem to find them on any of the other 'approved' app stores, Google TV Remote and the Nook reader from B&N.
I cannot install either of them, or any app for that matter, from AppStoreHQ. Anybody else having this problem.
I called Tech Support, thought it would be a good first test. I was surprised to get a real person in under 2 minutes. He was helpful, said he would try it on their G Tabs, and put me on hold. He came back in a couple of minutes and said they are having the same problem. He would report it to the software team and there should be a fix in 24 hours.
He also told there will be a general update for the G Tab in the next week.
Any help would be appreciated, even another way to get the apps I'm looking for.

You might want to go investigate the custom firmware threads in the developer sub-forum... They all have a method for gaining near complete access to the market.
OTOH if you actually like the TapnTap UI, you can probably find the Nook and Google TV remote apks somewhere online, then read about using adb to install them from your computer, or how to enable installation from foreign source directly on the gTab(can't remember if it's on by default in stock or not since I gave up on TnT a LONG time ago and have pretty much settled on TnT lite ATM...)
[EDIT]
...just remembered... search this forum(and maybe the dev forum too) for info about applying some mods to stock firmware (root, Google market, etc.) if you REALLY want to stay stock... you're not going to learn a whole lot about Android in stock UI though as it's buried under the TapnTap UI... Vegan "ROM"(firmware) is closer to a vanilla Android 2.2 release...
[/EDIT]

Installation from foreign source enabled by default, since there is no official Android Market, if it were disabled no software could be installed. If you find the '.apk' files download them to the device anf tap them then install.
3389 has a bad bug of slowing down when woken from sleep state. Only cure is to reboot. so you may want to look into one of the unofficial but from Viewsonic updated, if you want to keep that "stock' feel. If not there are many options for alternets that each have a loyal following.

New info added on there Viewsonic,s site

App Store
Please be advised that a software update is now available that provides access to an Apps Store directly from your G Tablet. Owners of the G Tablet will receive an automatic notice of the new software upgrade. Users can then simply click on the Apps Store icon from their G Tablet to gain access to 1,000's of leading Android apps. (Please note that the automatic notification requires that the G Tablet has WiFi Internet access upon power-on.)
Adobe Flash Support
The Viewsonic G Tablet hardware and firmware provides full support for the Adobe Flash Player built into the unit. At the time that the G Tablet was manufactured, the Adobe Player application was not available for this product. We anticipate that a version of the Adobe Flash Player Application will be available by December 19, 2010. Owners of the G Tablet will receive an automatic notice that the plug-in is available for download to further expand their web access and entertainment. (Please note that the automatic notification requires that the G Tablet has WiFi Internet access upon power-on.)
anyone get the appstore update?
None here to report
(no mods)
If this is an OTA update, most likely none of us with mods will get it -- it's probably getting pushed down via the TnT OTA service. They might push down an update.zip and then do a reboot into recovery to run it. If that's the case, we might be able to intercept the update. Maybe.
EDIT: I called CS (I love 'em, they are a great bunch to talk to, in all seriousness). Sounds like the update is ready to go and it sounds like it's an OTA update. Lots of bug fixes as well as their App Store, which sounds like a web site of some kind. It may have been pulled at the last minute but should show up this weekend or early next week.
It also sounds like the new shipments to Staples are part of the reason for getting this out so I hope that means they will work overtime to get this out ASAP. We will see.
Ignoring the terrible condition at launch, the update came pretty quickly. Hopefully we'll see more updates.
No update here and I registered my unit right after I got it.
I wonder if there is anything we have to do to get the update?
Update process?
IS there anything that an enduser needs to do to recieve the update? If it's OTA does it ask before it install that update? I keep checking their website but they don't seem to view it as a communication tool. Those poor CS people are about to get swamped I guess

The site is a portal for pocketgear and apps linked there for download. Apparently all "compatible" with tablets. Since a near-full market now works for the Gtablet with the framework data wipe trick, I will wait for you or Roth to post some magic from the official update

I got my update Thursday night. My tablet posted a notification that I had an update available, I clicked on it and it downlozded. It seems to have fixed the clock loosing time, their market app now works, the update icon was changed, wifi seems to be more stable and reliable. They also seem to have addressed the storage card issues, but it still does not recognize my microsd card installed. It sees it but I haven't found a way to access it yet.
Downside: they screwed up the default home page. The three windows are now blank waiting for data. I have not been able to add or change any thing on this screen.
I am running stock tablet no mods.

I don't have any mods on mine either. I have the same software installed as you except I have not installed Flash.
Still nothing on the update here... no notification or anything. I sure hope my registration went through. I saw where somone said they got an email after registering, I did not receive an email.

That's my goal - I want the update just so I can mod it into TnT Lite 2.00. Right now I have a vanilla config on my device and I'm waiting it out.
I have a feeling that we won't see the update until Monday, but I hope that I'm wrong.

They told me that there was a UAT period where the CS reps got the update on their test devices. Perhaps they don't have an actual UAT side and they added it to their production infrastructure instead which would have allowed a few consumers to get the update? That's my guess.
Can you check your kernel version? I'm curious if they sent a new one. Also, do you have an update.zip in the root of your /sdcard and, if so, can you post that? That could be the actual update that they sent down.

Yes, that is the icon to update. Just got off the phone with support. The update has been pulled until 11/22. Allegedly there were other things to be included and they wanted to release it all at once, that's what I was told anyway.

Bad decision on their part - better to have an interim update now and another early next, unless there's a nasty bug in the interim build.
A lot of shoppers will be out this weekend and they really need that firmware update NOW.
EDIT: Added a new thread - I felt this was important enough that it was warranted.

Since I got my G yesterday, I have not seen the App Store anywhere on it. Here is the update I have on mine:
Tap UI Update
Current Version: Flextronics/harmony/harmony/:2.2/FRF91/hudson-20101023-135552-TnT_SVN_2638:user/testkeys
I registered my product this morning (2 hours ago) and haven't received any emails confirming registration from VS.
I do have wifi on at power-on.
Purchased it at Sears outlet for $279 of which I think is a steal just for the hardware.
I am still completely stock - no OTA update yet for me either. I did not get any sort of confirmation email when I registered...the screen just said "Thanks for Registering" and that was it.

Look for additional updates in the future as we continue to enhance the G Tablet Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Stock G-Tablet MOD Thread

This is not knocking our heavy-duty modders and developers, but it seems like in lots of threads folks ask questions and the answer always is to go to the custom ROMs. (Yes, I know they are good and do a lot!)
Could we maintain this, or another thread -- or could the admin set up a section for folks who have stock G-Tablets who want to improve and get the most out of them without ROMs?
I got my tablet 11/25 and when I turned it on, the first thing it did was download two updates. I have not had a lot of the really bad problems some of you earlier adopters had. So I would like to try a stock machine with program improvements before deciding whether to go custom ROM.
That said, I would like to install the Google Market, Contacts, Gmail, Calendar, etc. I am willing to root the tablet if that is needed to get all the software working.
Any suggestions -- references to non-ROM upgrades -- recommendations on how to accomplish the above will be appreciated. And I suggest there probably are a lot of other folks out there who would like to do the same thing. (If I'm right, post and speak up so the people with knowledge will know helping us is worth their time and effort.

P. S. -- Sorry this got so long. If a different thread is needed to get this done, someone feel free to get it started.
I don't find the stock g-tablet as horrible as many are reporting. It is not the same as an Android phone, and I guess that is what most people object to. I have installed the ViewSonic 1.01 update.
Here is what I have done:
1) Root it using Z4root. You can find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
2) Installed Android Market:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827209
EDIT: This version of Market does not work on the firmware update version 4349. For that use the package that Roebeet has supplied to us:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12939008&postcount=40
It is installed as an update package, where you first unpack it, then place it into the /sdcard folder. Reboot holding both the Power and Volume+ button. Then select "Apply Internal update.zip", using the volume rocker to select, and the power button to enter the selection.
3) Do the Market fix to get access to all apps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845175
4) Also install the AndRootFile app, available here:
http://www.getjar.com/mobile/39778/androotfile/
5) Install LauncherPro or ADW.Launcher
EDIT: This is no longer needed, as there is now a "Classic" home screen in the firmware update. But it can still be done if you want to try it.
6) Install Flash:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9172522&postcount=2058
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842040
7) Install OpenGL fix, so then you can install Angry Birds from Market:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846463
This is no longer needed. The OpenGL update is included in the firmware update.
I think that is about it. If I think of something else, I'll add it.

Not giving you a hard time but for someone who doesn't mind the stock interface everything you have done is pretty much the same as just installing TnTLite...
It may be true that "Waterhead" had done most of the same things some of the ROM mods do ---- BUT, he didn't have to flash anything like TNT or cwm, etc.
For those who don't want to flash, what he has provided here is a less risky path to decent performance.
Or for those who are less experienced and want to start out "lite" on their modding experience, this gives them a chance with less opportunity for making a fatal mistake.
I think there probably are a lot of folks who will own G-Tablets who will fall into this category.
And with a route to learn modding and work their way up to really serious modding, I think we will have done them a big favor.
Thanks for the posts. I think we have started a good thing in this thread. And thanks to you more experienced folks who are willing to help get those folks started.
And......it just could be that if we provide an opportunity for the unexperienced folks to make their tablet right -- more people will buy them. IMHO.

What I did is no different than what a person does to a PC. You install the needed programs and drivers. And maybe customize your desktop.
As a long-time Linux user, I am fully capable of installing from scratch. I just see no need to do that with the g-tablet. I actually like the weather app as a homepage.
So you have the TnT UI (Stock 3 Homescreen UI) and Launcherpro/ADW? If people are going to go this route, then I would suggest installing home switch app from the market.
xmr405o,
Two things:
(1) My model with updates has a three-screen "Home" already -- one with weather/clock/news, one with "To-Do" lists, and a third I use so little I have forgotten what is on it.
(2) I have installed Launcher Pro and when I choose a task that will require launching, my firmware gives me a choice of the regular "Home" or LP to do that job.
What would the app you are recommending do beyond this??? More info??!!

Seriously, what is so intimidating about installing a rom? You cannot brick these things, it's impossible to do.
Thanks for this thread.
My wife picked one of these up at Office Depot the other day. She knows I have been waiting on Adam and thought I might like this instead. I have yet to open the G Tablet until seeing what the supposed Dec 19th update brings. I am new to android and hesitant to start at the deep end of the pool with modding a $399 toy on day one.
From all the reviews it sounds like a solid piece of hardware and that most issues are with TnT and the lack of Google support for tablets. Do you think this device will get Gingerbread and full support from Google eventually?
My only other concern is the LCD, which is turning out to be hard to judge without having seen the demo unit.
Ideally I just want a clean Android 2.2 experience with the ability to install and use the typical apps (gmail, flash, twitter, facebook, angry birds, etc). If this thing can be made into a solid purchase maybe I would just skip Adam and wait for a next gen tablet like Eve which should be on Tegra3/honeycomb.

This quote from an earlier post answer the question asked as well as I ever could:

I've already said I have no problem with the people who want to go the ROM flashing direction.
But there are people who would like to be more conservative while they learn something new.
Would it be such as bad thing to just help them?

And eventually I may get a second G-Tablet I can afford to mess up. But right now I want improve my tablet without the risk. IMHO.

As I said in my earlier post... I am not trying to give anyone a hard time and understand people wanting to keep them stock. You should be able to and have a useful tablet. When they first came out it wasn't so easy, and still isn't. Programs would not install because of memory mapped wrong, wifi disappeared after waking from sleep, time would reset every boot. The latest Viewsonic update has fixed some of those things, but not all. I flashed mine because I knew I was driving a Z06 Corvette with a Vega motor in it that had power windows that didn't work. I wanted the capability I knew was under the hood and the only way to get it was to flash a new rom. Or wait, and hope that Viewsonic eventually did it in an update.
I picked up my tablet back when they first came out. Seems like a long time ago but was really only a month. I read read all the pages in the original huge thread that existed before the G Tablet received a home of its own here. I would read what people were doing, read what they were breaking, and then when I felt comfortable enough that success was a possibility I would give it a shot. I have worked with computers myself since the early 80's and am comfortable building, installing, breaking, etc. Android is definitely different, but mostly to have fun with your tablet you don't have to know much more than how to flash a rom. Back before there was a recovery path things were pretty spooky and I did a lot of reading and waiting to see what worked. Things have progressed now to where if you can unzip a rom package to your internal SD card so you end up with an update.zip file, and a recovery folder all that is left is to hold the volume up button while pressing the power button and about 2 minutes later you are all done. And your Z06 will actually have power windows, and the right engine..
The specs on this tablet are probably the best out there right now. The software chosen just doesn't properly utilize most of it. Maybe the December 19 update being talked about will make it right out of the box. I hope so...
And no matter which path you take, stock, or modded... If trouble comes the answers so far have all been here in the forums...

I have a ZT-180, and have flashed it several times. You had to mess with it just to get it to a useful state. But eventually you want to stop re-installing things and just use it. The stock g-tablet is wonderful compared to the stock ZT-180.
I guess that I come to this with a different perspective.
Great post! I've done exactly what you've done and am pleased with the result.

[Q] Update not loading

Guys,
I just became the, now rather dubious, owner of a gTablet that a colleague brought for me from the States. So far I am not that impressed. Several apps that supposed to be on there, aren't (no Kindle app out of the box, and no gMarket, despite what the manual says).
SO, I try the announced update procedure: fails.
First time fails at 8%. Second time fails at 13%, third time fails at 28%, fourth time fails at 4%. Is this a joke of some sort? Also the download is rather slow, as in, they use smoke signals to get the message across!
Does anyone have the update as a file that I can run as an apk perhaps?
I also have to point out that the GUI rather sucks. The settings menu misses about 50% of the Android 2.2 options (I have a HTC desire. Waaaay more settings options...)
After my complaints, lets get to figuring this out.
1) Can someone point me to the update pack if it is available for download via my Mac and can be installed using that ES explorer program it has installed?
2) Does the update provide Google Market or the original weblink? Does it use a different gui or still the same simpleton gui?
3) if not, is there a simple ROM flash I can do that gives me a different GUI and google Market?
I have flashed my HTC Hero before, which was not a big deal. However, I want things done simple, so if there is a good ROM with a nice GUI and simple instructions for a noob (I got two left hands when it comes to this sort of stuff), and Google Market, I would gladly see a link.
Any support will be very welcome!

Guys,
I just became the, now rather dubious, owner of a gTablet that a colleague brought for me from the States.

Forget about the stock update and read about TNT lite or the vegan beta Rom if you feel experimental. You can get market flash and pretty much all the Google goodies.

A good start would be the following guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
Understand that there are newer versions of the rom referenced, also there's VEGAn, a rom based on the Vega.
The Gtab stock needs a lot of help but it is a very good product with a little TLC and some grunt work:
Different devices/users different opinions. I am more than satisfied with the performance and feel of my Gtab without flashing a different ROM and what I did was follow these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827209
I used root explorer instead of AndRootFile
Then I changed my launcher to ADW.Launcher
Side load flash (Instructions/.apk on XDA-developers)
Do the market fix to get all market (Instructions/.apk on XDA-developers)
add titanium backup
add ROMManager
Note: When I applied the latest update from Viewsonic (fixed the video driver, now AngryBirds, etc working) I had to re-root the device but everything else works fine.
Even fixed the issue with Gtab not seeing Ad-hoc network from phone (Instructions can be found on internet). Now my Gtab rocks, connects to my home Wifi or if not available connects to my Phone Wifi.
I can still launch the default tapNtap if I want to and Viewsonic upgrades apply fine. I had an issue with update also....Support had me set the sleep to "off" and then it worked fine, however the update image was posted on XDA-developer:
Bobtran,
Interesting perspective. Could you run Quadrant and show us what that score is?
I have had TnT up to 2.2 then swithed to VEGAn beta3 now. Q =2411
Most everything runs very very fast...
All, Thanks for the suggestions and the useful links . I might be flashing mine this weekend.
As for which ROM to use, what are the pros and cons for one over another? E.g. if I were to take the TnT ROM (I think it's at 2.4.1 now?), how does that fare against, say, the Vegan Beta4 (I think the latest is beta4 from what I read on some posts)
Bobtran, did you have a link for the update image? seemed like you were going to post it, but got cut short...
Guys,
I am trying to install Clockwork Mod v08 as per one of the links. First issue is that the tablet won't mount the SDcard to my desktop. SHouldn't be a big issue as I can coy/paste the required files from the internal storage to the SDcard via ESexplorer (standard installed on the gTablet).
However, how do I know it installed correctly? I don't see a new app and the boot install goes very fast. There is an opened box with an arrow pointing down and a load bar that seems to have green hashed filling, as if it's preparing to install. Then suddenly the splash screen pops up. The box with arrow and progress bar are there for a second or so, maybe 2. Seems rather quick. Is this correct?
EDIT: I wanted to say the boot screen didn't come up when starting up with vol+ and pwr, but just noticed, it does... so should be ok
well, seems I have been successful in flashing the new ROM (TnT 2.4.0) using CWM-v08.
Question though, the instructions in the TnT installation guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245) seem to say that the market fix only is a partial fix (note that the comment applies to TnT2.2).
Now that I installed the TnT2.4.0 ROM, I was wondering if the market fix is also only partial for TnT2.4. If yes, can I run the patch at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827209
and if yes, would that give me full Market access? If not, what's involved in getting full Market access?
As a side question that may not belong here but wouldn't be answered in the appropriate forum section: I have an XT701 phone that needs a Market Fix. Would the fix at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827209
also provide my phone with the Market? Just a side question, if no answer, that's fine...

Unfortunately I flashed to TnT lite yesterday so can't do that anymore without starting from scratch. Just testing the waters so to speak.

For the market fix, just see the link that I have in my first post, in the TnT Lite thread. That fix could also work on other devices. It's the same fix in the link you just posted.

[Q] Viewsonic January Update

Many people have applied the late January 2011 update from Viewsonic. Some accomplished this through OTA update and others by downloading and sideloading. Does anybody know why Viewsonic has no information about this update on their website? There's nothing in their Support or News areas on the GTablet webpages. In fact, if you click on the "Learn More" link on the GTablet software update menu item on the News page, you get a Error 404: Not Found. (http://www.viewsonic.com/gtablet/news.htm) It appears that if you don't follow this forum, you might know nothing about it at all.
Now, I've been pretty pleased with the tablet overall, especially after I added the forum.xda Enhancement Pack and Market, so I'm not out to complain about everything. I'm just trying to understand why the company would release an update without posting any information about it anywhere. This is a little bewildering since the company had to battle bad press about the tablet just a short time ago.
It is pretty crazy how horrible this device is software wise from Viewsonic.
I bought mine last night from office depot and the FIRST time i booted it up, every application i clicked crashed and FC.
Mind you, this was my unboxing experience!
I have been reading alot on this forum for a week and with all the positive feedback everyone had with custom roms I bought this knowing I would load a custom rom.
I ended up with CM7 beta05 on it, and so far I am loving it. Have all the Google apps and Market up and running. I let it charge overnight and am going to mess with it some more.
This site is really one of a kind!!!!!!!!!

I called them 3 times yesterday and there has been no update released to the masses since december. If you go to settings then about if it says enhancement pack you are not updated yet. My guess is tomorrow or the 31st.
Yeah, the 404 Error is because the link has "gTablet" not "gtablet" in it. I mentioned this to a customer service guy at ViewSonic probably 3 weeks ago. Just takes you to the Support page. The registration link is busted the same way. Good to see they are on top of things.
So which is it?!?!?!
A few people say there was an OTA update. Others (like in this thread say there hasn't been).
Some say the enhancement pack will prevent OTA from working. Others say the enhancement pack will NOT mess anything up.
wtf?
Personally, I think I'll wait until maybe after the end of January (since VS has been saying "January January January") to see if my Enhancement pack gets OTA'd. If not, I'll flash to the original ROM, and see if that gets OTA'd. And if not, then I'll say screw VS, and either jump on the TnTLite bandwagon or just get the TNT versions that Roebeet posts, because Roebeet is pretty awesome.
OTA 3588 popped up a couple of days ago, and my gtab downloaded it, and I installed it. Then I loaded vs 3 of the enhancements pack, redid flash, redid the market fix, etc.
Wwhat about Flash?
Viwsonic's web site says the January update was supposed to support Flash (OFFICIAL). Whatever happened to That update?
"Adobe Flash Support
The Viewsonic gTablet hardware fully supports the Adobe Flash Player. An automatic firmware update will offer gTablet users the option to install the Flash Player plug-in, pending Adobe Flash certification, targeted for the end of January, 2011."
TnT Enhancement 3.1.4b DOES block the Viewsonic Update!
I reverted to the stock 3389 (update-smb_a1002-3389-user) rom just now. It booted fine, then I ran the Updater and it immediately found 3588! So now I'm updating to that (and will of course install the enhancement pack).
So....even though the enhancement pack doesn't "block" the OTA updater from running, it certainly doesn't find you until it looks like a stock install.
ok...update is done....
So now in "About tablet", I get
Model - UPC300-2.2
Android OS - 2.2
Tap UI version - 1.1-3588
Kernel version - 2.6.32.9-0000-10.8.2-dirty, [email protected]#16
Build number FRF91
Notice any major changes?
well, nothing from the responsiveness end.
But I have to say that for some reason the wifi is a bit sketchy. It's an early assessment, but if it keeps it up, I'm jumping to TnT Lite. I probably didn't appreciate all the goodies tucked into the 3.1.4b enhancement pack (like the long-press home key task manager). I can only guess what's in store in Tnt Lite 4.
Makes you wonder what ViewSonic is doing with themselves....I'm only happy with my gTab because of what roebeet and rothnic and the crew have done.
BTW, for my fellow n00bs. The 3588 update alone will hide stuff in the Market because you need the build.prop "mahimahi" tweak to get access to things like "Thumb Keyboard" and "TV.com"

The problem with flash support is that Viewsonic and everyone else is dependent on Adobe issuing a "certified" Flash for each particular device. They are unable to release or include flash unless it is certified by Adobe. I agree they shouldn't be making promises on something they have no control over but in the end the fault lies with Adobe
In a perfect world adobe flash would slowly start languishing and dying off. Ufortunately it won't, so we're stuck with almost having to use it to browse anything. I'm about to try the new vanilla update as well just to see how it behaves.
The 3588 update just showed up on my tablet this morning. I did not see it before, when others reported it showing up. I guess then this is the 'official' version.
Any one else now seeing this update?

My g-tablet is "basically stock". That is I have it rooted, installed Android Market and Flash. I just needed to re-root and also uninstalled/reinstalled Flash. I redid flash because the system would shutdown (after update) when watching a Rovio Angry Birds "walkthrough" video.
I tried the beta flash download on VS favorites and that has worked fine in the last several days.
FWIW last Friday afternoon I asked Viewsonic customer support about the Web site updating. The short answer apparently is "the site maintenance is taken elsewhere and we have no control of the page contents."

[Q] CynogenMod 7 issues on the GTablet

I apologize if this is the wrong area for these questions. I'm having a few issues with my installation of CM7. I've tried looking in several places, but nothing seems to address my problems.
First thing I noticed upon installation was that I was never asked to set up my touchscreen or input my google information. I tried doing this manually by adding an exchange account, but that would not work. I next tried looking for my apps to see if they installed automatically this time around or not and none of my previous apps show, nor does market exist anywhere. Without any instance of market to be found I can't use any of the market fixes. However, without an inputted google id I don't think that would have mattered.
Can anyone guide me to where I can find help for these issues or post any possible solutions?

Google apps - Flash right after you flash CM7. You might have to bypass the setup, but should be able to open the market and input google login. It won't auto download, but you'll have some market access.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919958
Read the dev thread for other issue and such, don't have the time to dig through and help further.

As the previous poster said, install Gapps. That will give you the setup screen the first time you reboot the GTab. As a word of warning, I wasn't able to bypass the first screen (touch the droid) on the main version posted in the development thread (the Beta05), even with the click around the screen. I was able to get past it right away on the "offical" build in post 18 of that thread, however (Beta01).
Let us know if that doesn't fix your problem.
Thanx alot guys. I was finally able to get market going by installing gaps and using the CyanogenMod 7 bet01. I ran into the seup screen issue with the Beta05 just like you warned. I didn't do the full market fix as everything I wanted was readily available. I'm not even sure if the full market is absent or not.
I am noticing that after you mount the USB connection you can't unmount. Also, my internal storage isn't recognized. I think there were fixes for some of this in Beta5. Is there a way to update to Beta 5 without having my previous problems or some other fix for the USB and storeage issues to anyone's knowledge?
flash to vegan5 and you will be way happier.
I tried CM7 and it had so many issues.
Once you flash vegan5 you will actually enjoy your tab
You can try flashing beta5 over beta1 and clear cache/dalvik. I'm not sure if that will work, but would be my best suggestion.
On the other hand, I actually agree with the previous poster saying that vegan is probably the better option at the moment. It seems much more stable and feature complete, even if it is froyo instead of gingerbread.
Either way, make a nandroid backup so you can go back if things go sideways.
I didn't get to post this before the responses. I did actually go ahead and flash over Beta01 with Beta05. I just didn't wipe the data or cache. Everything came back just fine. This fixed the storage and usb issues in Beta01. However, you have the previous audio issue from older builds where you have to plug in headphones and unplug them to get the audio back. I've tried VEGAn 5.1 and it works awesomely. I'm merely choosing aesthetics above overall functionality.
My tab has been delegated to fancy entertainment device (comics, casual browsing, games and video). It does all I need for now. I figure since VEGAn and CM7 are joining forces, why not do the switch early and test it out. I love where they're going with this ROM. I can't wait to get my grubby paws on a finished product.
Again, thanks big time for all the assistance. I generally skulk and read through the threads, but I love this place and all that everyone provides for the lesser technophiles like myself.
I thought maybe I could post my own problems to this thread?
So I'm on cynogen 6.1.1 on htc evo 2.2.1 kernal [email protected] #1
Anyway... I've tried 3 times to install the update to 6.1.2 today and each time it's gotten stuck around 58%. Any links to places I'm sure are there and I just couldn't find?
Also, for some reason, for the first time since I got my evo, I'm getting TONS of errors when attempting to send sms. theres a pink like traingle with a ! in the middle. Any suggestions?
How do I fix the bug with the camera?
You can email me if you like, at [email protected].
I am sort of inbetween a newb and whatever the next level would be, lol. This past week I was able to root, and install a custom mod, AND install an update to that customed mod (which is the one i'm on now) all w/o ever posting any questions to any forums. Hopefully that'll get me some brownie points?
Please PLEASE please!! I will even paypal $10 once I get this resolved.
On bended knee I beg (im not really this dramatic in real life )

This usually means the installation was corrupted in some manner.
And it's usually because of a corrupt zip one would flash with.
You can reflash cm7 with another fresh downloaded file if you still have access to recovery mode.
Which I think you should be able becase the boot up process makes it up to the "Android" Bootscreen before it starts bootlooping.
From Advanced Recovery mode you can mount the USB option for the SDCard then transfer the fresh DL to your SCDard that way.
Also make sure you are using bekit's version .8 of CWM while in recovery mode.
Grab CWM v.8 from here
Other versions of CWM don't work well with the GTAB.
