Of course this only matters to facebook lovers.
Right now the official list of phones that'll support Facebook Home at launch is as follows: HTC One, HTC One X, HTC One X+, Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note II, and of course the HTC First.

But is very interesting to know if S4 smart\gestures will be well integrated with FC_Home.
Can you imagine being able to control FC_Home with known S4 movements of hands and eyes. Competition will be very jealous of that. :crying: ehehehehe
like i said, only for facebook lovers.
.
I know, I can't wait to try it when I get my S4
that's a very intrusive launcher though o.o
I doubt I'll keep it, but I'll definitely try it!
Here is a FULL Hans-On in a Galaxy Note 2.

Really smooth, i'm impressed.
.
I think this will be a something that many -who don't really use Facebook so much- will try and then dump. The majority of Facebook users are unaware or even scared to change their launcher so they are unlikely to adopt it. Another problem will be if it does not support the OEM's widgets that many are so fond of.
It going to be really interesting year ahead
If I had the money I would probably invest in some Facebook shares right now while they are still relatively low!!
just disable ur facebook account and forget this crap
Has just been released and already some people despise the launcher.
In my opinion has interesting aspects and i'm very curious to test. I think people will soon be talking more about this FB home than many would expect, we'll see.
Is just 1 version and more adds will come, FB is a $$$ machine, dont start this for MarkZucker play his phone.
Wait and watch......

I suspect these FB contradictory comes from someone who are scared and watching its potential.
In pair to gmail FB is the most used application all over the world from kids to old people, everyone has their account and visit it regularly, not to mention people who always connect FB when turn on their PC's..
Yesterday I shared on FB a video of the FBH, 5 minutes later a girl who can't distinguish the android from Ios ask me where she could buy one of these FBH phones, that says something.
I think FBH success will depend on 3 things;
- The ability to run on mid-range smartphones
- Technical capability of FBH devs to lower the data consumption.
- The ability to integrate ALL phone notifications.
If FBH become accessible to all pockets can quickly become a major consumer product. There are thousands FB fanatics that only lacking sleep with it, because many already eat with FB next.
Obviously if FBH will only available to consumers who have a Galaxy or a One will not have any success.
Always the great things have Lovers & Haters.
Yes no one can deny from popularity of facebook. What I best liked that I lost so many friends from school and college cz mobiles were not common then, I got them all back through facebook. I can easily keep myself updated to latest news. But yeah its the facebook app which makes it a terrible experience

I was thinking about HTC One, and then realized I couldn't have it and keep all my cool Apex customizations. Same for FB. Seems pretty primative, as far as launchers go. I would love to see more "blinkfeed" sort of competition though.
In my world, FB is dying a slow death. The only growth is among grandma's.

Hi all,
Im facing a weird decision... well not weird as almost 50-50 split and it makes me feel queasy .
Should i opt for the Galaxy S (Android) or the HTC HD 2?
The Galaxy S has 1 GHz processor 512 Ram Full HD video recording and a SEXY screen... damn it looked nice in the demo . However (and this does drive me crazy) there is no LED flash. I dont know WHY there isnt but there isnt. God, I hate it when manufacturers do that. They leave out one fiddly feature for no reason whatsoever.
Anyhoo the HTC HD 2 HAS a flash it has WinMo upgradeable to WinMo 7. Snapdragon (I love that name) processor but the Galaxy S out performs it easily in terms of graphics. Should I take the leap into Android (I really really want to see how well it works especially since its got such an amazing developer community) or stick with WinMo and the HTC HD2? I know i havent mentioned many pros of the HD2 but thats because it shares most of them with the Galaxy. To be honest the only pro is that its an interface im familiar with. However, would all of you people who have taken the step from winMo to android tell me whether it was worth it or not?
Thanks

Because WM is a more mature and solid OS with thousand of customizations and free apps, android is immature and young and is not business oriented, also google will be in control of all your data...
All above of course is just my personal opinion
What do you mean google has access to all your data? :S really? they can see my messages and such information? I find that very surprising.

In terms of modern UI, stability and handling Android is way more mature then anything WM can offer. Unless you have some mission critical software which only runs on WM there is no sane reason to keep using it. Besides HD2 wont have any official ports for WP7. Android offers a stable, consistent user interface with plenty of customization options out of the box and tons of free available software. Hardly anybody bothers to produce new software for WM, meanwhile the Android eco system is brimming with life. I switched from a X1 which I tried with various custom roms to a Desire and it's just no comparison. If you're not hardcore attached to WM, I'm certain Android is the way better choice.
Google will only have your data, if you're using their mail/messenger/etc. services. You're free to use different ones.

Google has removed once test-apps and I'm certain that isn't what happend in the linked case. If it happens you can be sure to read in the tech news about it and not by somebody with a new account and no posts. That thread doesn't either talk about google accessing and somehow retrieving data from user phones.
Perhaps that link as you mention does not give nothing solid to the question, however, as I clearly mentioned it´s my personal opinion only...

I fail to see the point of a bunch of random links, which claim that google has done something wrong and none is related to Android? Do you really think MS isn't collecting massive mounts of data with their internet services as well? In contrast to many other companies google actually has the balls to go out and say that something went wrong, not trying to deny it until there is no other way.
I must say i dont really find those so convincing. So long as they arent collecting PERSONAL information (my contacts, messages etc) and its anonymous and im not getting charged for it why should it bother me? Its just usage information.
Tbh I dont find many things convincing, especially the article about the Traffic hijacking. That has to be the most ridiculous claim ive ever seen. The google bot is very advanced and it can pick out useful information like phone numbers etc. How he can make a claim that showing this information is traffic hijacking done intentionally is ridiculous. I mean doesnt it occur to the author that Google is a SEARCH engine.. part of SEARCHING means getting to the information you want. THe best search engine wouldthen presumably be the one that brings you that information as easily and as quickly as possible :S.
However, you said its just your opinion so thanks for the information but as it stands I dont find it a real threat to my decision on HTC HD2 and the Samsung Galaxy S.
I've only read the first few posts so I don't know if this has already been covered. I've been with Windows Mobile since day one and I loved it until I tried Android on the HTC Evo a month ago. BTW' I had (still do) the HD2 which I bought on a T-Mobile 2-year new contract. I flashed the HD2 with Kumars ROMs (the best ROMs for WM right here on xda). I did a lot of tweaking and installed over 130 apps on my HD2 (both paid and free apps). After an hour with the Evo, I was sold on Android and now I just have to get around to putting my HD2 on ebay. BTW' the HD2 will not be updated to Windows Phone 7 if nobody else has mentioned that here.
The HD2 is nice and slim and feels very solid just like the iPhone 4G (I'm currently testing the iPhone 4G as of yesterday, while waiting on the ATT and Verizon Galaxy versions to come out). The HD2 is a good phone and if you flash it with a ROM like Kumar's, things are pretty good on it but don't looking for the best of gaming on it because the newest and best games aren't there. Also a lot of apps won't be as nice as what you can find on the other OS's. Furthermore, a lot of older WM apps are not easy to use on the HD2 because of the lack of stylus support.
The Evo is as close as you can get to having an HD2 running Android so in other words the Evo would almost be like having your HD2 and Galaxy together. My Evo has been good but it had the raised screen issue (as well as a dead pixel and yellow streaks on white backgrounds). I wanted to just get it exchanged but Radio Shack has been all sold out. So I decided to try the iPhone which I had to jump through hoops to get it mailed to me.......
The Galaxy has a nicer screen technology and looks better so I keep reading. But from what I can see of Samsung, I think I like HTC Sense much better than TouchWhiz. Plus the design looks much better than any of the Galaxy designs as far as I'm concerned. Evo or Galaxy = good choices. HD2 = a dead OS that you'll be happy with for a minute and then you'll regret not having a newer OS.
That was my two and half cents plus tax

And no, the iPhone will not kill the Android no matter what carrier signs it. iPhones share the same traits as Macs -- pretty, easy to use, and nearly idiot-proof -- but the more advanced and adept users will always gravitate towards Android (linux) and Corporate users towards Windows.
Besides, iPhones to date have been overpriced and, like Macs, the only way you can run their OS is on their hardware. Android runs on everything from tablets to mp3 players to cell phones across a variety of manufacturers.

Please don't feed the troll!
you see now I never asked which was a better os......i stated that without support from TRUE developers making apps a OS is no Good. Android has a horrible market which rarely works. The apps are 2 year old ports from the iphone. As far as the pre i think it has the best os just horrible hardware.
Look at what Nividia showed running on the Tegra chips at CES.....1 year old PORTS of games that run on the Iphone perfectly.
Hardware is fine and dandy but NO SUPPORT guys. Its sad.
I honestly beleive once the iphone comes to verizon noone on BigRed will ever buy an android again. Atleast the common user. Well see soon. This is gonna be fun!!!!!!

This is just blatantly wrong, so go troll somewhere else -- there's lots of big-name developers on Android, including some from the iPhone world.
And yes, there's lots of garbage on the android market, but it does work. Don't forget that Amazon will be launching their cleaned-up android market this year too.
@burtcom actually your proving my point. please show me ONE app that they focused on the TEGRA chips that isnt on the Iphone??? Please name one? Also Amazon market??? Ummm where is it? Ohhhh its not here yet....oh ok Let me know when it is!
Please name me the developers on Android...... Netflix (not yet)...Gameloft (ummm old ports from iphone) EA.....ummm wheres madden? Oh still in beta?
Dont talk when you have no clue!
Oh and if there are games on Gamelofts site (the Ports) there made for the droid phones and the resolution is way off wack!!! But enjoy
The US is the last place that the iPhone hasn't been available on multiple carriers. The rest of the world has carriers with both the iPhone and Android phones competing directly, and Android is still doing great there. A Verizon iPhone will probably put a dent in their Android handset sales, no doubt, but there's always going to be a segment of the market that want something cheaper, or more powerful.
So no, Android will be just fine after tomorrow.
And apps are not the be all end all. They only matter so much to iPhone because it's basically just a glorified app launcher with a few apps bundled in. You can't even see the current weather without launching an app.
OP, you do realize that the iPhone is available on many major carriers in the the rest of world, right? Do you seriously think the US has the biggest cellphone market? (The answer is no. I'm telling you this since you probably don't know the answer.) Android is still growing at a rapid rate and taking up market share in the rest of the world. We shall see how the iPhone 4 does IN THE US when it comes to Verizon. If iPhone 4 Verizon does destroy the Android, then Android will die ONLY in the US, not the rest of the world.
So what if many apps are ported from the iPhone? Why don't you ask why those developers are porting their apps over to Android if they don't see the potential of Android?
Technically, Android has the best developer that no iPhone developers can compare - Google itself. Where did iPhone's Maps and Youtube apps come from? Which OS has the better Google apps?
you see now I never asked which was a better os......i stated that without support from TRUE developers making apps a OS is no Good.

You didn't ask, you simply implied that iOS is better. People here are just disagreeing with you. And most of your arguments are surrounding the game department of the iOS. What else do you have? Even if you bring some more things on the table, you still can't argue what I wrote in my first few paragraphs. Enjoy the iPhone. I honestly think it is a great phone, but I hope you didn't type your posts using the iPhone. If so, learn how to fully use your iPhone please, otherwise it would just be a waste, no offense.
When people keep talking about apps apps apps for iPhone, they are just talking about games. Really, ask any iPhone users what awesome apps they are talking about that aren't games, and they will not have an answer for you. Or name apps that also exist on Android. Netflix? Yeah, its pretty cool. But its not like its been out all that long for iPhone, and the video selection is pretty limited, AND it will be out for Android anytime now, since it was already leaked at CES.
Seriously, how many games do you need? I love playing games as much (probably more) than the next guy. And there is plenty on Android, and developer support is growing. If you need more games than available on Android, its pretty likely that you need to spend more time on other activities besides playing little casual games on your phone.
Besides, not all developers are in love with Apple. Look at Adobe and PrimeSense (the original developer of the XBox 360 Kinect controller). These are important players, that were completely turned off by Apple's need to domineer and control, and eventually gave up on Apple.
The OP implies that the only reason that not everyone owns an iPhone, is because they are tied to Verizon. There are plenty of people like me that have been on AT&T forever, but have no interest in the iPhone. AT&T customer for over a decade, and I've never owned an iPhone, and never will. If Apple had their way, there would be no variety in hardware, or how we use our phones. There will always be people that find these types of limitations suffocating and unacceptable. Some of us like to have the choice of more than one form factor (say a larger screen, or a smaller one, or a hardware keyboard), or to have a homescreen that isn't just a near-useless grid of shortcuts. It would be a sad place where only one device could exist. Luckily, things don't work that way, and there is always room for competition in just about any business. So with any luck, Android won't be going anywhere soon.
Sure the iPhone is popular. But saying an OS is doomed just because its not the most popular platform, and doesn't have the most games, then that's the same as saying Mac computer shouldn't exist either.
Android won't die tomorrow
But troll should die today
I don't know about others but to me a cell its more like a helping hand or what ever you like to call it. Atleast for the tech lovers like me. But we all have different ways of doing our day to day stuffs. Android appreciates and compliments that. That's why I will go for Android. For the level of freedom it gives you, not how many new cookies it have in the box.

At least for me. Let me state that plz try to give honest replyes here. This is not a thread for saying who's better or not. With this said, i been wondering a question about this new service. And i really hope you can understand my ramblings and honest question what you and others think.
First of, i have not tryed Google +. That might be because im currently in the Microsoft swamp and all happy about there services.
But a question thats been nagging me is how well Google + will do in the end. I belive that Google made great on pushing there services out. All that they set there minds to have been big success.
But from what i now understand, Google is trying to create a new Facebook alternative, and while i can see those happy with what Google offers, and happy Android userd, is this really enough to compete with Facebook?
My thought are being this.
Facebook been around for years now and even the most sceptical about there service, has finally given up there muterings and joined the community. I read about a lot of people getting angry about how many users they acctully have, but i think it's safe to say there are MANY right? And now that mothers, fathers, friends, old friends etc have found each other. How likely is there that all just pick there bags and change service. While not saying people won't, the vast majority is not. Or do you belive me to be wrong?
Heres a idea why i am asking this question, and also a good example to give you a picture of what i mean.
Remember ICQ, AIM, Mirc and all these services? I was a die hard user of ICQ and AIM. But after using this services for a while, i realized something important. I had few friends on my list that i actully socialised with in real life. And i had no family etc. So i asked around, and it turned out most regular people, not geeks, just regular folks that wanted a chatt service had from the start allready signed up for MS service then named just Messenger.
So i loggd on this messenger that i always disliked back then, and wosh!! My friend list got healthy and correct. I then installed clients of various brands (cant remember there name atm) and could now use all 3 of my favorite services in one.
As time passed by, live messenger arrived and all services inproved, to a degree i started questioning why i should keep AIM or ICQ. All my really good friends used Live Messenger, and as it turned out when i asked my ICQ friends etc, they had a account in Live to. I asked them to add me, and now i had all in one place. So i took my bags and left the others and have never looked back since.
So, i hope you now understand where im getting at. There is of cause a lot diffrent market now then it was back then. But i still wonder. Can a new service really out shine the allready established Facebook? Remember, in the end, people you talk to, or share stuff may not like the idea of a new service. There comfy with what they got now and might feel its just extra work that in the end woun't use.
History for me seems to be repeating it self again also in the chatt softwares. New ones have come, but how well will they do in the end? Now i realize market for example in USA will differ from my experience here in Sweden. After all you guys have Blackberry and other services being pushed that will never se the day of any use over here. But are there really such a big market that Live Services arent used on a large scale.
Now i shared my question, i hope you get my point, and also really arent comparing whos the best. All im thinking of is the well established services that i know of.
And belive me, i want to hear what you think on this thoughts. Will google be able to outlive, take over Facebook? I am really poundering these thoughts.
Also sorry for bad spelling etc since English is not native, and i typed it all from my phone
Only time will tell.
I completely understand your point. Why should they use another service when all of their friends are already on Facebook?
I personally believe people will move on just because its new. No social site stays number one. MySpace got old, Facebook is getting old, Google+ will get old, then on to the next one.
You will also have people who will say "Google+ is free, facebook is going to be a paid service soon" to justify the reasoning behind trying it.
Thnx for reply, a good point i havent thought of. And i bwlive you, almost :-D
A good service is always a good service. Thats why i belive ao many come up emty handed in the end vs Live. And get enough people abord, its gona be one though nut to crack.
But in that perspective, is Facebook good enough to keep its users? While i agree, only time will tell, and also Google to have almost unlimited time, a large base is a large bas.
Thnx for the ideas Vetvito, it gives a nice perspective. Keep em coming folks, educate me, cus i think its a inttressting topic, and its easy to want to know what you all think when Androis fans and fan site is allready giving praise. And while we all have to accept change, have these people now rapping down on Facebook give this a thought? Im not saying there wrong, but maybe a bit over the top poaetive, maybe because its Google? So many loves that company nowadays.

Aha, another valid point. And if it's thrue, i give Google + a automatic win. Do you say this because its a fact, or just that Google fanatics will talk that way?
Another thing Google+ is integrated with Gmail. It doesn't require another sign up. I'm pretty sure they're going to bundle it with Android, and that should push Google+ forward.

Personally I got pretty annoyed when they automaticly added Buzz to my gmail accounts.
I have no doubt Google+ will get they're fair marketshare, but I don't see that happening untill they open it fully up to the general public and keep it less bloated/spammy like facebook has become.
Hi There!
I think you have a really valid point by saying the history is repeating itself. Let me give you one personal example...
A few years ago here in Guatemala there was this really big time fever for the "Hi5" webpage... EVERYBODY had an account on it, then just a few friends receive an invitation to join Facebook and it started to grow slowly but steady...
Bear in mind here in Guatemala we are not always up to date with technology and stuffs but in a matter of 6~8 months the Facebook took at least 90% of the HI5 users.. Nowadays i can tell you only a really tiny portion of people still visits their Hi5 profiles.
So all this Google+ buzz is also being herd in Guatemala and a few of my friends already are joining the network, why? Because Facebook is getting bored and it's becoming a site that people look into to see what you can get and gosip all the way, the reason why FB is still strong here is because two of the 3 cell phone companies have some "Media" plans in which for a really amount you can have "free" and "Unlimited" visist to FB, Messenger, GTalk, Yahoo Messenger etc... So i think if those companies include Google+ or switch from FB to Google+ into their Media Plans it will have the same destiny as facebook had against Hi5..
Well those are just my thoughts and my 2 cents in this matter, and of course only time will tell what's going to happen
J!M
Nice to hear your thoughts all. Sounds so far that your theory is the same as i have on Mobile OS's. iPhone came, in the end a big hit. Android came and it seems like a bigger hit. Now Windows Phone soon will be knocking on the door. New OS's that innovate on a large scale tend to be the next player.
A thought about Facebook getting boring for people sharing there everyday life. Isnt that what its all about? Am i missing something here? I can see the point of all these games and stuff, it annoys me real bad. But people seems to love it. All my friends play games on Facebook. Me loving "real" games would rather die then touch thouse =P
Another question rises if Google + will take over. Can they really? I as a Microsoft user, and fan like to have axess to social media also. But since Google systematicly seems to try to block us out from there service, with Gmail being the only one standing out that works great on my Windows Phone (Weee a MS lover using competitors services! =P ) were still blocked by Google on, for instance, youtube.
What will we do then, where will we go?

There a few different reasons as to why I'm switching. First of all, Facebook seems to be buggier and buggier every day (even on multiple computers) and they continue to come out with more features (video chatting). They should STOP, fix the bugs, and then continue with growing. And as someone else has said, no social networking site will stay #1. Facebook is old now, it's been overused and now it's time for something else. With my experience thus far with Google+, I can say that is works very smoothly online and on my phone, way better than Facebook does. How it will act after it goes public is another story though.
Well i believe that Google+ has a chance to a certain group of people.
I see google as a mixture of Twitter & Facebook. But in a simple skin.
It has the following like system with it's circles but has the structure as a facebook.
Unlike facebook it doesn't come with games, poke, other junk (YET)
So i believe what will happen is the following. People on facebook will be either kids for the games or just visitors to check up on gossip.
Then on Google+ you'll get the more serious groups which would consist out of communities like these, companies.
I personally use it already to group together my company contacts in case of system failure IT based. With a simple click i can huddle with everyone in that circle from all companies searching for a solution. And it being perfectly integrated with your phone gives it a +. Not that FB or Twitter arn't perfectly integrated but to some degree the app is perfect crystal clear. Probably also due to it's simple form.
So to sum it up the reason i believe Google+ has a chance is cause of their Simplicity without all the gadgets (yet).
A tentative overview
Well...... i say this having played with google plus for about a week now i strongly believe the platform that is still in beta will *EVOLVE* simply because google is trying to truly dominate the social market. The fact that google is (no tthat facebook is not) a truly innovative company, and are willing to actually incorporate a number of changes to suit the end user, simply because in the end google is for self, and we the end user are what power the 'self' or entity that is google.
Lets start with the beta structure; first the way the modem of communication is far more elaborate than FB. Their already starting out adding video chat (which puts them to head with skype) where you can create 'huddle' so u can interact with multiple user at the same time. In addition you can 'invite' people who are not even g+ users to the conversation whether they have a web/front facing camera or not, in addition you can still communicate with voice option. There will be bugs to work out with vocal overlap issues of course but we are still in beta, which is one of the reasons why it's still not too google (;p) scale as of yet. I would say the whole chat situation will cause a stir in it self since it's intergrating so much of jump. Although it's not new the way they are coupling all of them together is innovative in it self.
Then of course you have circles (FB has list) in which the time consumption of ordering is by far reduced. The good thing about those is you can truly control the end user feed, meaning you control which of your circles see what you are posting at all times. So if you do not want your family seeing your weekend hobbies, you 'do' have that ability (i for one will add family members to profile now). Also stream segmentation, we all have different groups we're more privy to touch bases with, with G+ you have that option as well by isolating the streams that are displayed (in lue of FB's 'scroll down a list of b.s looking for what you wanna see or gong to each page individually) which instantly sky rockets manageability of your page.
Seriously i can keep on going and break it all down even further but that would be far too time consuming this late at night. But all in all G+ will spurn FB to make several radical changes or be ripped to shreds by the ever growing jaws of google. G's youth makes it appealing and their teams are young so they can relate to us more than most, not that FB and MSFT but their not supplying the product that we desire as the big G is. Android platform justifying that claim, although windows is reinventing them selves and apples in the midst of a make over as well, we can just say..... Daddy Googles keeping them on their toes.
Thats just a piece of my mind being a junior member but my thoughts are my thoughts. Please let me know what you think!!!
hey guys.....this thread is actually about a general discussion.
First tell me for what Blackberry is known for? Its OSBBM right??
But Now BBM is coming for Android and iOS...!!!
Now what will blackberry do to still keep itself in competition?

Here's a question... would you purchase a blackberry just to use BBM?
If you did, how many of your friends currently have a blackberry so that BBM actually becomes useful to you.
Yes the service is highly touted but I believe that RIM has realised that they cannot truly expect to hold on to their user base simply by keeping BBM exclusive. A cross platform chat solution is currently lacking, hence the popularity of whatsapp and other apps like it.
If anything I would say they should have done this sooner, however, maybe they were waiting until the released their new OS, with the belief that it does, now, stand a fighting chance when giving people the option of acquiring BBM one iOS, Android or sticking with RIM
Really?

And what about whats app usere ehh?
We may be overlooking the fact that BBM was popular *during* the Blackberry era, when RIM was the reigning king of "smartphones". Fast forward several iPhone and Android releases, I am not so sure RIM's heralded messaging app has the same appeal as it once did. Plus, many people have found a home with other apps like Facebook Messenger, Whats App, etc already.
Side note:
Their latest device the Z10 actually looks great and felt pretty snappy when I played with a demo. Like Microsoft, I think they have an opportunity to carve out a niche following.
Yeah!

Well to tell you the truth, users change their favorites every time..!! Remember some years before how people showed their back to orkut? :victory:
And chanced their favorite social networking site to facebook..!!
So it depends on the particular content on what capable it is........if it does make a great impact (BBM) in the android family then people will definitely "MIGRATE" to the BBM.
So I came across my best buy receipt for my gear s2 classic. It was $380 something bucks. I began to ask myself what value I got from it I hoped for.
1) My first use case i was really looking forward to was samsung pay. But it was delayed and there is no word from samsung about its release. Im beginning to wonder if the gear s2 community will ever use it. This is a HUGE shame on samsung currently IMO.
2) I am a previous user of the gear s. I was certain the galaxy store was to offer a substantial increase in useful apps with the gear s2. There was no way to check since theres no website to browse (only in-app with gear onboarded, scumbaggish samsung). Anyways I browse the appstore every week and nothing ever happens. Its pitiful everybody is so excited for uber. One app I was certain would be available is for the Nest thermostat. Its the perfect user interface! Nope. I best thing ive seen so far is the hue app. Cheers to the dev. The gear s2 dev community needs clones of him. But overall our app selection is outrageously pathetic. I don't see it getting much better soon.
3) Why do I have to use s voice? C'mon. Samsung cant be this pretentious. Let me use google. I also thought there'd be a more seamless integration with google now. Nope. Oh yeah, ever wonder why you cant use voice to text on 3rd party apps? Because samsung locked out that ability.
I have a very good feeling that developing for the tizen smartwatch platform is an upsettingly dreadful experience. I say this because i spent four hours on a Saturday trying to get the development environment setup on OSX. I couldn't even get any sample projects to load. This trickles through. For example I really wanted to have xClock -Agent as my daily watchface but I couldn't condone it. Its affiliated android app caused alarming battery drain - and the app developer does not care one bit to correct the malbehavior. But then i ask myself why doesn't the core gear services provide an api for location so this problem wouldn't even occur? Why not for everything else? Why no S voice or be able to use any sort for speech to text for an app? I need an add on app mostly for the dumbest things. This sucks a lot.
As a product owner myself of two development teams I have been on a desperate search for the product owners of the gear s2 platform and express my concerns on that level. All leads Ive found on linkedin did not reply to my attempts at reaching out. Maybe no product owners exist, because things should not be this bad.
Anyways I would love to love this watch. The industrial design encompasses a wonderful human interface. But I don't love it because it has no soul (useable software). I hope things change. But I'm probably going back to the pebble time.
Okay.
K!
2. Google now won't happen. It is not Samsung's fault. Google does not open the access and I believe they won't. Why would they open it for competitors?
I agree with you on the app development part though. Setting up the development environment is not a trouble for me but dealing with the lack of documents, bugs in the IDE, Samsung review team and their servers are really nightmare.
Occasionally, I came across this reviewer who does not read my instruction for testing app and she rejects my apps very often. I just re-submitted one of my app for review hours ago. Another app got rejected a month ago for the third times and the problems were also their fault. I don't even bother submit it back.
Samsung servers or their Gear app store is very very unstable. Way back in the days of the Gear 2, I already saw the cannot install WO WO issue. It still exists and occur very often for customers. I receive at least 3 emails about downloading problems a day and sometimes I get 1 star rating for problems that I cannot solve.
These are just some notable issues.
So yeah, new devs won't develop apps anymore if they face similar problems. These days, I only see new watch faces submitted using the designer tool. Hardly anyone writes apps
Yeah, I agree with everything -- and just dropped dime to get a Verizon classic 3G to replace my current sport 3G.
Why? I need the 3G.
As soon as cell capabilities are offered on AW, and nothing improves on the Gear side with the issues listed (I'm a developer that walked away from development on the Gear because of the hassle), I'm gone too.
So sad, this is the second time Samsung has lured me into their watch with bad apps. Kept watch too long to take back but would if I could. I have bought numerous Samsung products and they always just move on to the "next big thing" without looking back..

Same here.. I've had s2 classic few days and is been a pain in "A"
When it disconnects I have to reboot phone and watch ... so few apps to use app store is barren
such a shame as its a lovely looking device
I'll give it to the weekend then off it goes back to Amazon if it doesn't settle down
I'm not doing too bad but my requirements aren't huge and there are things the phone is better for. I'd love to use Google - but its not an android watch and i knew that going in. I get my emails, texts, my alarm works well enough, I can answer texts with voice, my appointments and Google Reminders work. I'm pretty happy! Wish it was waterproof. Wish the alarm was stronger. But still, I'm satisfied. At least until the next big thing... I AM a gadget whore.
