"released" isn't really the correct word, they announced it. It's released on April 12th. And it's only being released on 6 devices, all high end, quite recent devices. Suffice to say, it isn't designed for the Explorer, and even though it will probably be possible to run it on other devices (if it has some sort of blocks in place, I'm sure someone here at XDA will make short work of them), it seems to be rather gesture based, and so any lag at all will make it a pain to use, meaning it will most likely not be a good experience on the Explorer. Which is a shame, as it does look interesting (although probably more of a "try it for a few days, then go back to what I had before" interesting, rather than a "use it forever" interesting).
Dude facebook are going to release it on playstore for all devices. And only one device called HTC first will have it preinstalled. Moreover HTC first is the first device which does not have sense UI. Instead you have option between facebook home and vanilla jellybean

Not all devices no. It's starting on 4. It'll become available on more over time, but it probably won't ever be officially available on the Explorer, and it'll probably be pathetic on the Explorer if it is installed, for reasons explained in that article.

Google is apparently rolling out a marketplace update. Be on the lookout! New design and all

Is this something more than the current update of a "related" tab on apps?
Nope, it's a new layout. No more tabs, everything from the app description, sample pics, related apps to reviews are all in one page now. I don't think they added anything new, its just a different look.

why dont you guys give it a try yourself. just use the search button next time so these threads dont get clogged.

Woops. .. Currently, our man on the inside says that’s not possible to use rule core apps with version 2.3 (Gingerbread) hence the need to push to the next iteration and version number, but not change the name. It's most likely to be one of the main reasons we’ve yet to see any major manufacturer gunning to get Android 2.3 handsetsoutthere.
“It’s to ensure compatibility with dual-core apps,” our agent explains before adding that “it will still be called Gingerbread.”
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
That’s right, in a move that shows there is some kind of cover-up of the mistake of the lack of Android 2.3 devices on the market (aside from the Nexus S) 2.4 will still be called Gingerbread, as the only new feature it adds will be this ability to support dual-core apps on a single-core device.

Remember when eclair came out? It was 2.0 and only came on the moto droid. They then released 2.1 also as eclair there was no cover up. Just not enough of an update to deserve a new name but enough of one for a new version #.
BTW there were a few devices shown off at the mobile world congress with 2.3 running on them. Your information seems to be false.

Lets keep this on topic, and stop with the flaming please.
Looking forward to just seeing any dev on 2.4
So the update was supposed to bring access to pages. I don't see it anywhere. Where is it?
So its out that no one knows, or that its obvious and I'm retarded? Just curious why no one has responded.
I see no difference either.
Feel better?

facebook needs to stop favoring iphone and give android some love. The app really sucks...
Just tried to email their app support and they won't even accept them. I post an screenshot later
Video upload is not reliable at all too. 8 out of 10 videos I tried to upload end up getting stuck.

The FB app by FB is garbage its plain and bland.
I started using another app for FB called Flow (There name is changed to friendcaster now the dav partnered with handmark makers of tweetcaster)
The app is excellent in nearly every aspect except one, the fact that you cant send a message from the application itself (Due to FB removing that portion of the API to only acknowledge the official FB app)
Theres a free version and a pro version on the market and its worth a try.
Why the heck facebook takes 100mb ram??
Because its coded very poorly. FB is like crack to most of its users, so they don't care it uses a ****-ton of resources, so FB has no reason to bother coding it efficiently. Like a ton of other apps too. As the phones get more powerful, the devs get sloppier since they don't have to optimize. Same with computers, or any electronic, so few users are going to notice it doesn't matter to lose the few who do over sloppy code when compared to the money and time it might take to write it efficiently.
It doesn't pay to pay attention to such things anymore, there are just way to many of the clueless around out-spending the discerning consumers at a break-neck pace (i.e. the success of the iPhone). Join the herd or be forever disappointed.

yeah u r right, good point! that background detection is pretty bothering though.
Worse still is that even their mobile website is so poorly done that it sucks ever so slightly less than the app. So the only way to use Facebook reliably is with a computer. And morons were surprised when the ipo tanked!
Now ask yourself, did I really just read that? Yes you did.

Is anyone using any third party Facebook as a replacement? Like faster book or whatever its called.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Thinking about just using the browser instead of the app, it's so frickin bloated.
Try friendcaster
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Tapatalk 2
Friendcaster is a really nice replacement, but it lacks permissions to show all the content, so often you get redirected to the browser. Facebook doesn't only create s crappy app, they also stop third party apps from making better ones :/

Dolphin Browser with the 'Desktop Browser' Addon and Full screen mode does a Facebook just fine. I find the mobile web version a bit more sufficient than the app. Justmy opinion...

A little convoluted, but if it gets the photos to load every time, worth it. That's really my major gripe with the app, after you look at a few photos, they stop loading. I have to back out, force close, and clear cache to get them back.

I am in the facebook developer programm ... I will take a look at it... I know that its really "crap" so some code modifications won't work better then another app... So there will be two options.. wait for a new one...or write a new one..

Tell us how you really feel. With all the money and non- monetization from mobile use, you'd think it would be his... Mark Z's biggest priority after he is done shopping for Camera app developer's.

I removed the updates and disabled the app, F IT!
Since the last update the Facebook app has started to be really buggy. Did anyone else notice as well?
My gf has a Galaxy Note and the FB app on hers bugs at the same spots as mine does too. Really annoying.
Was wondering if any of yall noticed as well or if its my cell and my gfs that are messed up.
Fb's fault! The latest update id buggy.
Their devs do not care about Android!
They have released an awesome update for iOS which is fast and nice.

Mine keeps locking up and FC'ing since the update too.
Rumors say Zuckerberg is forcing every one at Facebook to use android phones so they can see how bad the app is.
I have had to desinstal it, now i acced it via google chrome, was drainning to much juice I will wait till the android app be good enough.

They focus on the iOS app, facebook recently had their developers be required to use android phones to see how bad the app is, I'll try to find the article and link it here.

FB has never really been very good on Android. It's actually better to use a browser than it is to use the app for FB. Pretty sad, actually.
Worked pretty good until I installed the update.
Now same as others fc a lot and freezes when browsing photos

Well for quite a while, the Android FB app was way ahead the iOS one. Granted, wasn't crazy but was a lot better... Hopefully they come up with the new update quick because its annoying as hell.
