Facebook crap! - HTC One S

Why the heck facebook takes 100mb ram??

Because its coded very poorly. FB is like crack to most of its users, so they don't care it uses a ****-ton of resources, so FB has no reason to bother coding it efficiently. Like a ton of other apps too. As the phones get more powerful, the devs get sloppier since they don't have to optimize. Same with computers, or any electronic, so few users are going to notice it doesn't matter to lose the few who do over sloppy code when compared to the money and time it might take to write it efficiently.
It doesn't pay to pay attention to such things anymore, there are just way to many of the clueless around out-spending the discerning consumers at a break-neck pace (i.e. the success of the iPhone). Join the herd or be forever disappointed.

yeah u r right, good point! that background detection is pretty bothering though.

Worse still is that even their mobile website is so poorly done that it sucks ever so slightly less than the app. So the only way to use Facebook reliably is with a computer. And morons were surprised when the ipo tanked!
Now ask yourself, did I really just read that? Yes you did.

Even the web FB is slower than most sites for me. *Sigh*

Yea I'm sick of Facebook. I mostly use Google plus

Is anyone using any third party Facebook as a replacement? Like faster book or whatever its called.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium

Thinking about just using the browser instead of the app, it's so frickin bloated.

Try friendcaster
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Tapatalk 2

Friendcaster is a really nice replacement, but it lacks permissions to show all the content, so often you get redirected to the browser. Facebook doesn't only create s crappy app, they also stop third party apps from making better ones :/

Dolphin Browser with the 'Desktop Browser' Addon and Full screen mode does a Facebook just fine. I find the mobile web version a bit more sufficient than the app. Justmy opinion...

A little convoluted, but if it gets the photos to load every time, worth it. That's really my major gripe with the app, after you look at a few photos, they stop loading. I have to back out, force close, and clear cache to get them back.

I am in the facebook developer programm ... I will take a look at it... I know that its really "crap" so some code modifications won't work better then another app... So there will be two options.. wait for a new one...or write a new one..

Tell us how you really feel. With all the money and non- monetization from mobile use, you'd think it would be his... Mark Z's biggest priority after he is done shopping for Camera app developer's.

360 live app gone!

So I paid for the app among how many thousands of other ppl and Microsoft decides it wont allow 3rd party apps to gain access to an account that we the gamer/consumer pay for and google does nothing but pull the app or apps from the market and issues no refunds what the heck is that about ...its not about the money its about the poor business practices and the lack of protection of the consumer

I use an app called XBOX Live Statistics. It's nice because I can see if my friends are online or not, and I can send them XBL messages from my phone. It's a little slow, but worth the load time.
Its the fact all of us who paid for an app can now no longer use it and we got no refund from the dev or google but everyone will cry like babies about pirated software and protecting their work well im saying what's protecting our (the consumer) money.

I also payed for this app... I got a bit pissed off when I noticed it wasn't available anymore

Absolutely not the devs or Google. Microsoft is at fault here. They disabled access and there was nothing anyone could do about it. Google could have given you the money back but you shouldn't be mad at them.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
I didn't even know about this. I have xbox live statistics. Is the app no longer working? I haven't checked it in a day or so, but have a widget that treks me if I have any messages or how many of my friends are online. This is a real bummer and I hope the consumers show enough outrage that they allow access once again. This affecting other mobile platforms as well?

Yup that's exactly why these apps are useful. No need to keep booting up the Xbox or load the bloated website.
Removing access is not cool at all.
Buy a ps4 like iam going to I was a big xbox fan and I still like my 360 and xbox1 but after 4 POS 360s I will not buy the next xbox! And I did not buy win7 becuz M$ riped us 360 owners off with defetive ****y hardware! M$ really Sucks it all started after Bill gates left

Facebook for android question

So the update was supposed to bring access to pages. I don't see it anywhere. Where is it?
So its out that no one knows, or that its obvious and I'm retarded? Just curious why no one has responded.
I see no difference either.
Feel better?

The FB app by FB is garbage its plain and bland.
I started using another app for FB called Flow (There name is changed to friendcaster now the dav partnered with handmark makers of tweetcaster)
The app is excellent in nearly every aspect except one, the fact that you cant send a message from the application itself (Due to FB removing that portion of the API to only acknowledge the official FB app)
Theres a free version and a pro version on the market and its worth a try.

[Q] i keep getting marketing notifications, how do i stop them?

Hi, I’m not too sure if it’s an app I have installed or not but I keep getting marketing notifications a lot (most nights)
It shows in the notification bar as a red star, it will be things like, win an ipad or win a phone etc.. if I tap it, it wants to just take me to a webpage to enter a draw, not sure how to get rid of it though as there no way I can find where its coming from and no options to stop as the notification just leads me to a website to enter a competition.
Has anyone else had this or know what it might be?
Thanks
James
Yup its an app that is doing it. Narrow it down to when they started and compare to what apps you downloaded that day and get rid of the app. Google should not allow developers to do this kind of crap. I understand developers have to make money but this crap is overly intrusive.

Facebook native for andriod

Perhaps most of you know this all ready. And honestly with Facebook you are the product cause your not a customer. However because I along with others have family on Facebook we are in a bind. Well Facebook went native and it finally works well with android. So for the others that have resisted being a user. Maybe its time to give them one more shot?

so far im very impressed with 2.0
The experience is definitely improved with the latest version.
Yup, much better.
Also, the argument that if you're not paying something "you're the product" is.... well I'll just say "dramatic." Yes you're being advertised to, and maybe your information is being used for advertising purposes, but.... most normal people don't give a crap, and it certainly doesn't hurt you.

I couldn't agree with you more about it hurting anyone.
Its not dramatics' its a simple fact. And that's OK that they sell my info to make money so I can have a free social media outlet.
I Apologize if this thread seems derogatory to Facebook. They seem to had missed the mark with not taking care of its "product". A vast amount of android users became disheartened of the HTML code. I wrote emails to fb explained how it seemed they were ignoring the android user.
I digress... the point of this thread was to welcome back and perhaps persuade old users to "give them one more shot" I would have never thought I'd give fb 5stars for the app! all my cool friends are on Google + and my sheep ios family are on fb.

I usually just used the browser and the mobile site or the Friendcaster app. The mobile FB site looked almost the same as the old app and Friendcaster works really well on a tablet. I'll definitely check out the new update though. It has to be better than before.

Google are becoming Apple, every new update they've done something to restrict the freedom of the platform or make you jump through several menus to get to what used to just be there, kinda like Windows 8 lol.
After using Symbian on the 808, I just think Android is so far behind it in terms of functionality, Nokia let you do anything, they don't care, though they ditched it now so why should they lol. I wish they didn't ditch it now though and I wish the 808 had newer specs because the browser is so slowwwwww!

With ads forming a big revenue for some many developers Google was contemplating it for a while. I guess it will soon be side loaded ad blockers only. I hope they allow update to older already present ad blockers.
I was using AdAway. AdAway is available in, and even receives updates through the F-Droid app store, so that's what I'll use for the time being.

I understand removing from Play as long as those of us somewhat more techminded can still sideload...
It's the majority of pure users this affects (not implying a negative undertone there).
