Thanks! I've been lurking in the forums waiting for this. I'm just divided as to whether I should wait and see how it goes for others, or just download the update and see for myself. Not because I'm afraid of bricking (locked & unrooted here) but because 4.2 did have some issues initially on other platforms...
Anyhoo - thanks ASUS!

I don't think you should be fearing that much about bricking your device. There are a few unlucky people brick their devices every time there's an update.
I wouldn't flash the update on an unlocked device. That is how some TF300 users bricked their devices. Wait for Asus to put up the full rom.
I'm just going to wait. Mainly because a lot of apps aren't 4.2 optimized yet. I'm not afraid of bricking since i'm full stock, but I always have bad luck with updates of all sort.

So no one knows exactly what the update may entail? What was the change log for the TF300? Im sure they will be, at the least, similar..

now im really ticked off. the one option i was looking forward to in 4.2 was the ability to use the nexus 10 launcher instead of the current launcher they gave this option to the tf300 users just updated to 4.2 and this option is no where to be found. what the hell asus !!
The TF300 had a lot of bricks. Maybe that's why they did away with it? Could that have been t cause?

Actually i could get into cold boot screen. Only thing is that it vibrates twice before getting into the cold boot menu and that there are only 3 option on the cold boot screen.

How is the 4.2 running compares to 4.1? faster, smoother, no change??
I've noticed the "recent apps" function has changed. Instead of a vertical row on the left side of the tablet, you now get a full screen, horizontal look, of your recent apps. Will take some time getting use too.
On the cold boot screen. I believe you now how to manually start the cold boot (by highlighting the android icon) then pressing up on your volume key.
Lastly, I get an annoying warning about my sound being dangerous if to high, when I try to raise the volume. Anyway to disable that?

I got a notice that the system update was downloading, I waited then got a screen that said do I want to install, I tapped "install" and the screen said "Powering Off". Its been off for about 20 minutes and won't restart.
Any thoughts?
On edit,
Now its restarted and it's downloading the system update file again.
Its doing the same thing, checked system integrity and then powering off but this time it looks like 4.2 is installing.
One minor thing I've noticed is that the inexpensive 3rd party charger I bought off Amazon now no longer registers as charging (although my 3rd party battery app does, indeed, show that the unit is charging). That's an annoyance, albeit minor.
Unless the new tablet version is extremely different than the phone version, Asus is no longer using the stock camera app. So no photosphere.
Also, no quick camera access from the lock screen, not that I'm using the tablet often to take quick pictures.

Is there a stock Android cam apk with Photosphere we can download that works with the Infinity, and does it mess up the ASUS camera?

Has anyone had issues with random reboots with their TF700 or is it just me. I know the older Transformers had issues but I am experiencing that issue on my Prime Infinity and wondering if it is a software issue and if I should just wait for an update or if I should try returning it.
Try returning it... I only ran stock for a few days but i have never had a random reboot

I was getting them initially. Tried a factory reset and restored all of my apps with only minimal data and still got them.
Then did a factory reset again, started restoring apps one at a time only as needed from Google Play, no Tibu. I did this slowly, installing two or three at a time and then using the system for an hour or more to verify non-flakiness. Did not install an alternate launcher (had been using Apex). Avoided freemium games that do push notifications. No major problems since.
Did find at least one app that may be problematic: Google Voice seems unstable for me. There were couple of others too, IIRC, but that's the one that sticks out in my head because I use it fairly regularly. Did not reinstall a lot of stuff that I never actually used.
The process was painful but highly recommended. As the system becomes heavily loaded it tends have a lot of junk that is running all the time and taking up memory, etc, which is a real issue for ASUS' ICS firmware. This is why games are flaky on the TF and is probably the source of a lot of the seemingly random weirdness that seems to only affect some people but not others, IMHO, because it makes the system too sensitive to what you have installed/running on your box which is different for everyone.
This why a factory reset seems to magically fix everything, too, because all of that cruft gets wiped until you start reinstalling all this junk and firing off all the associated processes (which in turn start background services/process, etc).
I will still occasionally run FMR memory cleaner when the machine is acting laggy or something crashes (usually gmail, lol) and everything clears right up. My two previous TF201s and my other TF700 were ALL like this. I'm convinced it's an ASUS firmware/kernel issue. I'm hopeful JB fixes it but have learned to pay attention to what I put on the thing in the mean time and it is running better than ever.
rooted, btw.
I've had my Infinity for a little over a month and within the last week or so I've had random system crashes. Thought I figured out what app it was and it had stopped crashing but now it started in again late last night.wondering if its a hardware issue. Gut feeling is that I should go exchange it at Best Buy and just play it safe. I am rooted and also wondering if this could possibly be a reason as well.
What I have found is that the Infinity becomes very unstable when memory gets below 200mb. I am using the Cool Tool widget to show available RAM and noticed that it would frequently get below 200mb with general use. I have since set background processes limit to at most 2 and this keeps my RAM about 300mb and above. It limits multi taking a bit, but has been much more stable.

I had these random reboots at the beginning. Do you have a µSD card inserted in your TF700 (not the dock) ? I did and this was the cause of the reboots.

Yes I think so. 4 is actually that much of apps that this is quite a good compromise between stability and multitasking. And either way this doesn't have "true" multitasking as for example youtube videos stop playing when going to other screen. Which is actually very annoying and thats one of the reasons why this really can't be laptop replacement.

I had my first random reboot since the .30 update, so the issues has not been eliminated.
Man, I would be *livid* if my TF700 had random reboots! Part of the reason I bought the TF700 was because my old TF101 has had random reboot issues with ICS (if I NVFlash Honeycomb it's stable as a rock). I haven't had a single random reboot with my TF700 though - and believe me, I watch for it (mainly via uptime widget)...
Have you guys always had random reboots since you purchased it??

So if we're thinking memory allocation is the issue here, I wonder if the V6 Supercharge would help out. I use it on my phone and it's incredible. I installed half of it on my tf700 earlier today, but I have to wait till I'm at a real computer before I apply the rest of the changes.
As a disclaimer, I've not had these random reboots, neither before nor after the OTA, though sometimes games will refuse to load with that whole nvidia issue. Haven't seen that for a little bit though either.

It occurs most when using rdp apps but just saw it happen while typing this post. it's about 3/4 of the way up the screen when in landscape. Usually a black line that disappears quickly, like a graphics corruption issue. Already did a factory reset, saw the same thing on another tf700... anyone else?

yeap, sometimes a white horizontal line appears for a second o less in my tablet. I have to tell you that I don't have yet "the buttery" in it. Waiting to have time for a factory reset to improve the performance.
I saw other posts from the prime and the infinity as well, that after a while it gets worse, and a factory reset doesn't help at wall. I whant to resolve this without having to exchange it. I'm sick of having to go to the store and exchanging it. It's my 3rd Infinity.

Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using XDA Premium HD app
Yes, it's a JB issue. I've only had it happens once, not seen it since.
It's just screen tearing. Happens on a pc, too, although there videocard drivers have Vsync options to forcefully match the refreshrate from the program to the screen to prevent screentearing. I suspect there's a difference between JB and the Transformer's refreshrate.
We're using an Nvidia card, has anyone send Nvidia a message? (I don't have the problem anymore, so I can't make a support ticket...) More likely to work than wait for Google or Asus to notice.
Also, I don't have root nor unlocked, but tp anyone who has, is there a way to change the refresh rate manually?
Should I do a factory reset after updating to JB? I noticed that it got faster, etc... But was wondering if it would still improve after a factory reset. If yes, how do I do a factory reset? And is there a way to have my infinity exactly the way it was (wallpapers, configurations, apps, etc.)?
So I shouldn't return my infinity? If it's a software problem... I'm sick of having to return this model.

It's a "good thing" though, because this is my second TF700 and I don't want to send it back, again. The first one had a very white spot in the middle of the screen..*. But no flickering black lines issue.
So, you guys think that they can fix this with the next release?

I'm really not sure then. Personally, I haven't had a singe reboot and/or SOD though, so it must be something specific to the setup for the folks that are having this problem. If you really want to figure it out, I'd suggest a factory reset and try running the tablet without installing all of your apps/tweaks at the same time.
How often does this happen? Can you try running a "bare-bones" setup and see if it still occurs? If not, then slowly start introducing your specific apps/tweaks one (or a few) at a time. Yes, it's a pain, but it's the only way to diagnose such issues... Have you tried looking at logcat outputs at all? That's another way to try and diagnose the problem. These types of issues are very hard to troubleshoot - it's a slow, tedious process. But, since most folks aren't seeing random reboots and or "sleep of death" issues, it is fixable (unless it's a hardware problem, of course).
So, here's a few questions that might help troubleshoot:
1. Has this always happened on your device or only since upgrading to Jelly Bean?
2. How often does it typically happen?
3. Have you tried installing Jelly Bean from scratch (not upgrading ICS)?
4. Are you installing your apps "fresh" or are you restoring them via Titanium backup (or some other backup app)?
Again, there is no quick, easy solution to this type of problem....

You to thanks wouldn't have thought of trying until talked to you. Pretty sure fixed it usually rebooted at least once if not twice a day. None yet today. Can actually enjoy using it now. Ota really screwed it up glad don't have to send it back to newegg. Although didn't sound like yours had as bad of issue should probably fix it. Good luck.
Trust me I've been testing it now that i got the shipping label need to know by monday if really need to send it back which would suck it's my only pc right now.

Glad I found this, my totally stock machine is also now having random reboots....I see people re-installing the update.
Care to share how please....might help might not but willing to give it a shot
Thanks
I got a random reboot today whilst going through the painful experience of browsing with this tablet. It took about 5 minutes or more to start up again and when it did, the system UI kept crashing which made the tablet hard to use as the message kept popping up. Thereafter, when i tried to reboot using the power settings, it froze. Very frustrating. I was able to sort it by holding the power button to turn it off and then turning it back on. It seems to work fine for now but it's something that shouldn't be happening. I'm stock and unrooted

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
Hm... seems like many people are experiencing this? Maybe it is a problem with the firmware itself?

Mine keeps rebooting everyday now and I can't unlock the bootloader because of some "Unknown Error", I'm seriously considering giving RMA a shot then try to sell it if it doesn'tfix the issue...

Yep, twice, still unstable...
No random reboot issues at all. However I installed via fastboot using the method 3.
Method I Used Here:

This was driving me crazy until i realized that every time it rebooted automatic updates were running. Not sure how this happened, maybe corruption caused by play updates running when android updated. Uninstalling the 4 perpetually updating apps and reinstalling seems to have corrected the problem (or it's a lucky coincidence).
I was also having wireless dropouts, not sure how that would be related to updates but seems to have stopped now, possibly the updating process was spinning or using some other resource. I definitely recommend disabling auto updates and seeing if that helps.

I don't think that's causing problems for me as I already disabled it. But for few days, I have not been experiencing random reboot which is good but I don't know why.

I have a TF300T I just received and am trying to get this thing going. I have had a number of these devices and can't seem to solve this problem.
To me it sounds like a hardware problem.
I have unlocked the bootloader, installed latest ROM from ASUS and installed TWRP 25.0 as the recovery. Go into TWRP no screen problems works great even if I leave it for a while.
If I let it boot normally - it goes through the normal boot up procedure and arrives at the lock screen. Here is where it gets weird.:silly:
If I unlock (move finger to the right) and go into anything like settings or file manager or any app - or just leave it without doing anything - the screen I was working with goes away and I get a bunch of uniform vertical lines. If you leave the vertical lines long enough - the unit shuts down.
Sounds like a hardware problem. Graphics board or display? Any thoughts welcome.
Cheers

If I purchase a new LCD - does it come with a new graphics card? Is this how I will have to replace the card? Thanks.

Any chance you can hook it up to a TV/monitor through HDMI to see if you can replicate the problem there? Graphics are embedded in the CPU. But if it's bad, it wouldn't show anything to begin with. This is not heat-sensitive in that it either works or it don't. I'd suspect something else, but there's no way to find out except by the process of elimination.
