TF201 Class Action Lawsuit - $17 and free dongle - Asus Transformer TF700

Looks like this wasn't just some posturing by upset buyers, they actually went through with it and if approved by the courts Asus has agreed to terms of settlement. Anyone who owns or owned will be eligible for the $17 and free dongle.

Splashtop Remote HD on sale for $1.99

FYI, I just noticed that Splashtop Remote HD is on sale in the market for only $1.99! I paid $9.99 just a month ago, so if you were considering a purchase but were put off by the price, now is the time to act.
/end public service announcement
Now it is at $4.99.... go figure!
Still a good price, IMO, but it seems like the market prices on apps jerk around more than a Newegg deal of the day!
Maybe it is regulated by supply and demand?

Could be. At any rate, it works great for me, even at 5x the price.

blackberry playbook firesale

Looks like shop blackberry .com are selling all the playbooks for $299. Could be the best digital picture frame ever built
Not worth the money. Maybe $99...for the 32GB
Umm I can walk into my local best buy and walk out with one for $199...
they don't even know how to discount them. How do you sell all three at the same price.
At $99 I'd bite just out of curiosity. At $299, no way in hell.

Scams through amazon

I recently posted a link in a thread for a N7 case that I think is a fantastic deal. So, being the person that I am, I wanted to share my find to all. The reviews to the product are in terrible English and all have 5 stars and the product isn't even in stock yet. I am now very concerned not just for my sake but for all who have purchased through my post. I now have emailed the seller a few minutes ago and am awaiting a reply. I received a receipt through amazon that has my multiple different purchases included. Here is the link to the product and I would appreciate any input on what you all think as well as any suggestions for corrective actions if need be..

Thank you for your time in advance.

sure looks like it. personally I don't buy products from amazon unless they're fulfilled or sold by amazon. The main reasons being to guarantee free shipping, and no tax (watch out for that last one as some companies though have to charge tax even selling from amazon), of course there is also the assurance that it is actually a real product (quality not measured) being sold rather than a scam like this.

How does Amazon Do it

How does amazon price phones and other devices so.much lower than the phone carriers? What do the get out of it?
I Murder Murderers
I believe they are just another third party seller, and they just make some profit off their devices, where as other company's take the device that they purchase, then mark the price up much higher so they make a higher share of profits. Amazon makes a lot of money because it is like a whole seller and makes some profits, but there are so many purchases that occur, that it makes a large share of money
So how do they sell 700 dollar phones for 150 on a Sprint line. Obviously 2 totally different companies

They are a reseller for Sprint? They pay $500 for the phone, the customer pays 150, and sprint gives them a $400 fee for the customers contract. They make $50.
This is Amazon we're talking about. They undersell everyone.

This. They get a commission for the contract just like Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc. get when they sell you phones.
Amazon uses its position as a market leader to undercut competition. They make deals with manufacturers and other companies to receive products for less (in exchange the manufacturer or company selling the product gets access to Amazon's enormous customer base). They also, especially around the holidays, sell products at a loss. It's referred to as a "loss leader" and lots of different businesses employ the tactic. The idea is that you market a product at a very low price, a price that you are actually losing money by selling the product, but in turn you gain a customer who will buy 10 other things that sell at a profit.

Attempted class action over LG bootloops settled - includes V20

I'm surprised I haven't seen any discussion about this on here.
https://www.technobuffalo.com/2018/02/01/lg-class-action-bootloop-settlement/
$425 refund or $700 towards a new phone is no small settlement. Contrary to a lot of the misinformation being reported on various 'news' sites, because it's a settlement you don't need to have signed up for the class action to be eligible.
You have until 12th Feb to submit your proof of claim if you are eligible. More info (embarrassingly bad web site): https://girardgibbs.wixsite.com/lgarbitration/single-post/2018/02/01/LG-Bootloop-Litigation
This made the rounds on Reddit a few days ago. I never got notified of the original class action lawsuit even though I pre-ordered the G4 and got my first warranty replacement a year later. Then this law firm changed the terms on this website once people starting getting wind of it last week. Bootleg website, bootleg news.
There is no class action settlement. LG has agreed to extend the warranty as to the bootloop defect to 30 months from the date of purchase.

Actually it WAS a class action, and then it went to arbitration. The only people that are getting the 425 / 700 deal are the people that signed on back when it was a class action. So basically the only winner is that law firm.

Honestly I don't get how the v20 even got on this list. It's pretty well established it was the combination of poor solder and that piece of crap snapdragon 808 overheating that was the culprit of the bootloop.

From the firm that pursued this case...
https://www.girardgibbs.com/lg-g4-bootloop-class-action-lawsuit/
"The class action filed by Girard Gibbs against LG was required by order of the federal court in Los Angeles to proceed through individual arbitrations against LG.
There is no class action settlement.
LG has agreed to extend the warranty as to the bootloop defect to 30 months from the date of purchase.
At this time we recommend that you contact LG directly at*800-243-0000or*www.lg.com/us/support.
If LG refuses to address your complaint, you are welcome to contact us at*[email protected] "
So... The one good thing from this, if you have bootloops looks like you have a longer warranty as a result of this litigation (30 month), but no free money to sign up for because the court denied the class action and required them to proceed with individual arbitrations, likely this was due to an arbitration clause somewhere in the fine print.
