Hello all!
I currently have a Droid X w/ CM10 installed. I'm having the Droid X screen issue where the bottom 1/4 of the screen is black/or snow. so I'm thinking it may be time to move on to a new phone, so naturally I'm looking at the Maxx HD. I played with one at the VZW store and wasn't wholy impressed by the Motorola interface and would like to see the CM10 interface (or similar) on the Maxx HD.
I notice that a lot of the models have similar hardware, but what I can't figure out is how to determine what ROM's will work on which models, or if any of the RAZR ROM's will work on any of the variants?
thanks!
I came from a Droid X to the MAXX HD. As far as the interface, keep in mind that CM9 (because CM10 is Jellybean and there are no JB ROMs for the DX, just the X2) was ICS and the HD is Jellybean. Not a lot of difference in looks, but you're comparing a custom ROM to stock, so the stock JB interface doesn't seem to offer as much. As far as ROMs go, dev support is lacking. There are some ROMs available for the phone though. The biggest problem right now is if you can root the phone. If the phone has the current 4.1.2 update on it there's currently no way to root it. Anything prior to that can be rooted.

thanks for the detailed response!
oops, yes, CM9!
It's those customizations that I really like! (being able to hold-press the bluetooth and wifi icons to go to their settings is a stupid, but useful tweak, etc)
It sounds like I wouldn't be able to get them easily. Is the Verizon JB release the stock JB interface? What's the "MotoBlur" I keep reading about?
thanks!

There is little of any moto blur around anymore and hasn't been since ics was officially released. Moto has the most stock like interface of any of the majors.

ok, so all the differences I saw were what CM9 adds to the game. good to know, thanks!
Yep. CM9 had a lot more personalization options because they were baked into the ROM by the devs.

Will any of CM10 versions like "Spyder" work on the XT926?

I also would like to know before I root and unlock the boot loader.
Related
I just got a Xoom 2 MZ616 (WiFi & 3G) and I'm wondering what ROMs are compatible.
I'm going to root using Dan Rosenburg's method, hopefully that works.
I'm looking at trying either ICS 2.0.0 by Team EOS or ICS 4.0.4 AOKP, but I don't understand whether I need a Wingray, Stingray, _cdma or _everest build. Can someone please help?
Nothing will work.
You can root your xoom 2 but it's bootloader is still locked.
So you CANNOT install any roms.
no recovery for xyboard and xoom 2
I also have a xoom 2 and this is kind of disappointing, not to mention the fact that it shipped with honeycomb.
Brand new device, fresh out of the oven with a deprecated os. Nice move Motorola.
Guess will have to wait it out 'till Motorola ships ICS for xoom 2 in never-ever-land.
Unfortunately I think from now on I would by devices that already have soaked into the market and have development... Sad to say but we can't rely on manufacturers

Yeah as they all said, custom ROM's or custom recoveries do not work at all. Maybe one day in the future when Motorola decides to be nice and unlock the bootloader. But for now hang in there with Motorola Honeycomb as its not all that bad.

It's not all that good either lol...although mine is more bearable now I'm using ADW launcher.
As for the bootloader, there's plenty of debate/shouting/general aggression towards Motorola on the Motorola Xoom 2 forums...surely they can't ignore all these complaints? I'm sure that's what happened with the Experia X10 back in the day.
IG =]
I wish I'd researched this before buying. I just took it for granted that I'd be able to root and flash a custom ROM.
Ah well, live and learn and all that I'm very happy with it as-is (rooted w/ADW Launcher) but I eagerly await ICS in some form or other.
What about us who bought the xoom2 through a carrier are we now not only waiting for Motorola to hurry with our ICS but also for the carriers to add their crap too?

no custom recovery
we only have root
I complained to Motorola about their **** service to customers, I was close to buying the Galaxy 10.1 and wished I had, the Xoom 2 is pretty crap always crashes and should be on 4.0.2 at least..... I'll never buy a motorola product again, they were **** 5 years ago and they are still **** now.

My unit was updated last november to version 4.0.4.
So far, so good.
But seems that there won't be anymore updates from Motorola to Xoom2/Xyboard tablets.

Recovery works with Safestrap 3.12 for Xoom2.
Fastbootfiles also exist

What custom ROMs can be installed on MZ616?
Noob questions:
Can someone explain to me what it is? I heard about it for the longest time, but never cared enough to check into it. Is it just a super popular ROM? Do they have it for several phone models?
Before I got the Razr HD I had the droid X and droid X2, I was super into ROMs and all that crap. I would like to mess around with roms on the HD, their still aren't any out yet though right? I think CM10 is the most recent Cyanogenmod version, will this be available for the HD? Why is CM so popular?
Thanks for the info!

Start here: http://www.cyanogenmod.org/ There are very alpha roms available for both the XT925 and XT926 Razr HD already. Check the Development forum for details. Cyanogen is available for a ton of different phones, and have a lot of talented programmers giving up their free time to adopt to different hardware.
I apologize if I am asking a previously asked question, but i have searched for a solid answer for way too long, but I have a multipart question so here I go. I am looking for a rom that is compatible with the RAZR Maxx HD but all the roms only say RAZR HD, RAZR or RAZR M, I know there are literally like 20 variations of the Razr, but I still figured an attempt to list all known models that said rom is compatible for would be listed, or is it general knowledge that if its compatible for, say the RAZR HD it will be compatible with all RAZR phones, but the RAZR rom might not be compatible with HD, etc. I am really just curious as I would prefer to not trial and error right now, as a bricked phone would not be fun. But any knowledge in this area would be greatly appreciated, as I genuinely love to learn this kind of stuff. I used GooManager to search for roms but it only pulled up RAGEHD.zip RAGEHD2.zip and Paragon Maxximus, which as confusing as this is, on the Goo site, RAGEHD.zip was updated after RAGEHD2, so I am not sure which rage is the newer version, but on the developers forum, it says he is up to V3.2 which is only under RAZR on the Goo website, and then from what I have seen on these forums, I have seen tons of other ROMS listed but I almost never see them specifically listed for the RAZR maxx HD which worries me a little, so the more I have tried to research the more confused I am getting. Anyways, I am looking for a mostly preformance increase, though anything extra and in depth would be cool too, thanks in advance for any help.
Don't worry about it. The Maxx HD is the same as the RAZR HD aside from being slightly thicker to accommodate the bigger battery. Any ROM that's marked as compatible with the RAZR HD will work with the Maxx. The main thing to pay attention to is that they have the same model number (xt926 for the Verizon one).
As for ROMs, GooManager will only pull up a few if you have it just browse for compatible ones. Not sure if this is something devs need to set on their side, but there's quite a few others in the repository if you browse all devs and manually find ones who have been working on the RAZR HD. mikeyinid has an AOKP port, for example. Just look around the forums here or on droidrzr.com and you'll find lots of options.
I'm big on custom ROMs and the benefits that come with them. I decided to get a Razr Maxx Hd for the supposedly amazing battery life and the exceptional reception, but so far I'm discouraged about what I've read about the available custom ROMs. Do guys recommend the non developer version of the Razr Hd? I've skimmed through the Development section and it seems that even if do get that bootloader issue unlocked through the Motorola website, a LOT of people seem to struggle with the basics such as Wifi and Camera CM10. I haven't bought the phone yet, but if i'm not going to have these two working perfectly then this is not the device for me. What do you guys think? Is this worth it? are there any satisfied fans who have the non developer edition ?
I can't seem to find a definitive answer to this question and it's not for lack of looking. I know that the Cyanogenmod "unified" ROM is the same for both devices which, as the owner of a Droid Maxx, I find encouraging. But there is very little ROM development activity around the Ultra/Maxx while there seems to be a TON of activity around the Moto X. I've searched many of the Moto X Development threads for references to the Maxx and/or the XT1080 but haven't found many (mainly in signatures). Is there a rule of thumb about this, like "all Moto X ROMs are compatible", or "none are" or "here's how to tell which ones are"?
Eclipse makes a xt1080 room. Every time I try a rom though I go back to stock with gravity box. It is sad though that this is the forgotten phone because I love mine and oh yeah I'm stuck with it forever.

If in the download link it says "msm8960dt" then it will also work with the Maxx. Also, this should not be in Android Development. Q&A would make more sense for it.

I, too, have discovered that there are a couple of ROMs that are XT1080 specific and that msm8960dt releases will work on the Droid Maxx (and other phones). What I'm most curious about are all the ROMs being discussed on XDA's Moto X Development forum. I've had a Droid Razr Maxx and a Razr Maxx HD. I was once flashing a new ROM once a week, it seemed. Many of those devs, or ones that stepped in to replace others, are active on the Moto X. Carbon, LiquidSmooth, Pacman, ParanoidAndroid, Eclipse and many other custom ROMs I've not heard of are in active discussions and, it seems, active development for the Moto X. If Moto X and Droid Maxx can both be flashed with the same Cyanogenmod ROM (msm8960dt), can custom ROMs built for one be flashed on the other? I've got a Maxx Droid DE and another one that's rooted but has a locked bootloader. Can any of those Moto X ROMs be safely flashed on either/both or these phones?
I just said that if the download links say msm8960dt then it will work. I've used all ROMS you mentioned on my Droid Maxx. You just have to be careful with the stock based ROMS for the X. You have to flash from the correct firmware.

I think I understand what you're saying. I've gone back and reread the various ROM threads with your criteria in mind and found that several are indeed msm8960dt-based while others say (for instance) "must be on 4.4.2 before flashing". If a ROM is "based on AOSP" does that tell me anything about compatibility?
The ones that say must be on 4.4.2 are probably all stock based, and I think pretty much all the AOSP ROMS will work with the Maxx.

Ummm yeah most moto x Roms work on MAXX. They are pretty much the same phone. Look thru the moto x threads on here. Lots of people posting who r on maxxes and x's
