Having received my transformer this morning, all I can say is i love it! however, there are definitely a few issues that are bugging me;
1. the build quality. i constantly feel where the outer rim and the back casing are supposed to join, but dont and its a constant remind of its quality
2. the dock. its brilliant but the putting the tablet into the dock is so annoying and im afraid I may end up breaking the mechanism on the dock. which leads me to my next point...
3. connectivity. the tablet actually has about as much connectivity as an ipad, which is a REAL shame. would it have been so difficult to implement a micro/usb port onto the tablet? i appreciate the sd card slot but personally I'd have preferred the micro/usb than the sd card, but hey atleast the sd card works! you cannot really experience the transformer properly without the keyboard dock so when docking the tablet I am extremely cautious incase i do do some damage.
4. trackpad. the two buttons on the trackpad also feel really cheap when pressing. I suppose this is to be expected when paying as little I have for this tablet.
My final issue, for now, is the constant freezing of the keyboard which i believe has been addressed in a firmware update in the US and not in the UK. Would be nice to get it soon! anyone know when we brits get this update, and any other update there is floating around??
there is a USB port adapter being released by Asus in the near future. Also the trackpad feels real solid to me.

my buttons on the trackpad feel really plasticy but i guess thats to be expected. although iv not spent a great deal of time with the dock, guess ill have a more informed idea in a few days

they feel like plastic but they feel robust and sturdy to me, or are you experiencing different issues?
happy with the trackpad buttons too..they're robust..
as for the docking mechanism..you'll get used to it eventually...and it's a lot easier to dock after being used for a while.
I have no problems that seriously bother me. If you don't like it there's always the option to return it. I would not keep something that bothers me that much!
I am just waiting to see if its a case of getting used to it, will only return as a very last resort because I'm very happy with the rest of the tablet as I'm sure the majority of transformer users are!

Excellent choice! I think it has a lot of potential. Obviously, the hardware issues won't be resolved but the software will be splendid in a few months!
U say it has as much connectivity as an iPad yet I dont see a micro sd slot ,HDMI port, or a dock slot on the iPad, can u help me find it

i think he means why didnt they add a usb to the tablet as well so if you didnt buy the dock you could have a usb port. i think it would have been a nice feature especially on the left hand side of the tablet where the power and volume buttons are. i do like the dock option especially since it adds more battery life to the tablet.
^ Actually the iPad2 has a dock slot (smartass), it's just basically a keyboard, without any of the usefullness of the TF's dock.
The dock has USB ports, yes, but the tablet itself doesn't. I can see where kashifnazir is going with this; I'd like a USB port - even a micro/mini would do - on the tablet itself as well. If I wanted to just grab something of somone's USB stick, I might not necessarily what to root in my bag for the dock every time.
Regardless, it's relatively minor. The Transformer is still the portable computer I've been waiting for since tablets first hit the market.

I sort of noticed this issue too, but try this:
Press the trackpad button all the way out on the edge. Feels cheap doesn't it? Now press the button about halfway between the edge and the rubber bumper that the screen rests on when closed. Now, it feels almost better than some netbook trackpad buttons I've used.
My thoughts after some time on the TF
Charger: It appears that the charger is marginal at best and when used to charge the TF/Dock combo with medium battery remaining the charger overheats and either dies or shuts down until it cools. I have been charging separately and if lots of charging is needed, do it in increments. Seems to work fine. Excellent biz opportunity design a 15VDC 3.0a power supply with a USB3.0 female connector.
Dust: The plastic protective cover was covered with dust when I opened the box. Luckily nothing inside the TF. ASUS needs to revisit the assy and packaging cleanliness requirements.
UI: Would be nice to have option to move soft buttons from bottom to side of screen as they are easier to access when holding the device.
Case creek. My case is solid, but I noticed that the hinge on the dock is very stiff and I can see how opening and closing the combo by pushing on the TF could easily cause considerable stress on the case causing it to flex.
Overall for an early adopted device I am impressed.

yeh upon a bt more usage ive realised its more sturdy in the middle, just accustomised to using it on th edge but i can adapt

Excellent question, main reason was the display and the dock and having played with both I preferred this. However, I did also blindly expect it to have one but its ok, ill just get the USB accesory so life is good

I understand, but from a business perspective, I think it would have been a horrible idea for Asus to include a USB/micro USB port on the tablet itself. They wouldn't have the potential to sell nearly as many docks, and getting consumers to buy both parts is how they've chosen to market the Transformer.

I'm planning on buying this tablet soon and I just wanted to know what I should test out on the tablet first to still be eligible for returns if ever something is wrong. So what are some problems that usually occur with the tf300 so that I can test it out as soon as possible? And what are the usual things I should look out for? By the way, I'll be getting the one bundled the keyboard.
Another question, with the white tf300, does dirt get stuck easily on the back of the tab because of the circular texture? Thanks

Mine had a slightly loose back-cover and made a sound when pressed firmly on the sides. Although most people probably won't be bother by it.
I haven't had any other "problems" with it, but i would suggest checking the screen for dead pixels and if the touchscreen functions properly.
Also search through the forum here for people reporting problems and check for those.
Not sure if anyone else has this issue but the screen appears to register touch before you actually touch the screen, it's only when your finger is extremely close to touching thescreen that this occurs ( maybe mine has a fault or I am too electrically charged :cyclops: ) .. Also I put on a wet type screen protector and thought my screen was faulty but found out later it can take a day or so for the screen protector to settle in ?

I think the touch screen problem is normal from time to time since that happens to my phone as well at times.
Are wet screen protectors too thick to be able to dock the tablet? I read a couple of users had trouble docking. I was thinking of getting the acase screen protector just to be safe since it's dry.
Another thing to watch out for is software related. Many of the TF300s, mine included, have invalid serial numbers. They can't get automatic updates, use the Asus device locator, or validate registration on the Asus webpage.

How did you get an invalid serial?
I just returned my TF300 16 GB to Best Buy because after 2 months the touchscreen went haywire...It registered all sorts of touches I never made. I'm hoping its just a manufacturing issue and not a design issue. I normally keep it docked and hope that's not the cause.
Props to Best Buy who made the exchange very painless...for $20 more they gave me the 32 GB despite being past the return date.:laugh::good:

It comes that way. It would appear Asus' factories failed to register quite a large percentage of the tablets with the update server.
One way to check is to use the Asus device locator. If it refuses to let you use your serial number, then yours is one of the invalid ones.

Long story short, I bought the Transformer Prime and dock in late June. About a month later I traded the tablet for the Infinity and kept the dock since I read many people stating that it was compatible. First thing I noticed with the Infinity is that it required more force to dock the tablet into the keyboard. I had to push down and slide the lock tab to the right to actually lock the tablet. About a couple weeks ago I noticed that with the tablet docked and the lock tab pushed all the way to the right, I could easily slide the tablet upwards and remove it from the dock without sliding the lock tab to the left first. What this means is that the tablet could easily become undocked, causing it to fall easily if held improperly. The locking mechanism seems to work properly, but I'm not sure if the locking pins have become worn or if the part that the pins connect to inside the tablet have rounded off or something. Has anyone else experienced this problem yet, and if so, what are the possible solutions to fix this? If it's a problem with the dock, I'll probably just end up buying the newer dock ASUS released recently that's stated to be compatible with the Infinity. I've also thought about taking my tablet to Best Buy and seeing if it will dock securely with one of their docks to see if I can rule out the dock. If it's a problem with the tablet itself, I guess I'm SOL. Right now I'm staring at bits of a torn up paper towel, contemplating shoving them into the holes to see if it will temporarily fix the problem, lol.

Just wondering, is the dock still covered under warranty if your bootloader is unlocked? I'd like to send my dock to Asus if I find out the latches on it are broken.

I have your exact problem! There is nothing wrong with the locking pins on mine. They're metal and are designed not to be damaged if the tablet is inserted in the locked position. The issue is the locking pins do not line up with the small piece of metal in the locking grooves/holes on the tablet. I can see tiny abrasion marks a few millimetres in front of where they should be at the bottom of my tablet showing that they simply are not lining up.
The issue is with the dock. This should be covered on warranty.
R.e. trying to buy another one - I would warn you that consensus appears to be that the TF700 dock is structurally identical in every way to the TF201 dock. The only difference is the finishing colour which is slightly different and the cost of the TF700 dock which ASUS kindly increased.
My unit came together with a 'TF700' dock and the colours match. And like you it was a very tight fit to start with. I didn't notice the latch problem until last week though (because I actually never tried to remove the tablet with the lock mechanism ON before!).

How did you get on with the warranty repair?
I have opened up a POLL on transformer forums to see how many users have experienced the docking pins in the tablet either rounding off or snapping off completely.

I've been in contact with ASUS Support in the Netherlands -- they claim it is user-induced damage. I have written a slightly spikier mail, but will have to weigh my legal option if they remain on their stance. A device this expensive should have better build quality.

Did you try ASUS warranty? There is a poll here
... trying to get ASUS to recognise this is a design flaw and not customer induced damage
because
a) The docking tabs in the tablet are PLASTIC
b) There seems to be a tendency for left or right side of tablet to 'catch' in the dock as you remove it and if this occurs just before you release the locking tab---- crack! Locking tab should have hold fast LOCK and UNLOCK positions instead of being spring loaded

What are people's experience with this? Is Asus telling they won't cover it before you even send it in? Are they giving any estimates for what it costs to repair? Pretty crappy that they make a small structural item out of plastic and then say "screw you".

Yes, this is the oen issue that made me put ASUS on my blacklist of ****ty companies -- they put it on "user-induced damage", unseen, and if you send it in, they'll take the 125 Euros anyway, even if they only take a crap and wipe their ***es with the RMA form. I'm happy with the tablet as it nw runs, but NONE of that happiness has to do with AUSS' screwy behavior, poor hardware design decisions and even worse customer support.
I was looking for a Win8 tablet for the family, but the only viable option for now is the HP Envy v2 -- as I said, I will never buy ASUS again. And I have never boycotted anything in my life, be it digital or physical, so that says something. :S
Hey all.
I'm new to posting in xda but have been a lurker for a few years. I've been unlocking and rooting devices for quite some time and LOVE xda as it is my go to source for anything and everything Android. Short introduction aside.
I bought my TF700T and dock back in October of last year and have loved it ever since. However just last week I encountered a problem. The right hand side dock locking port broke on the tablet. So when it's connected to the dock, there is nothing locking on the right side.
I noticed that this locking system is a small plastic shelf that the hook from the dock grabs on to. Well mine broke off.
How, I do not know and I'm sure I might have tweaked it just right to snap it off. So now my tablet cannot connect safely without having the entire right ride being freely able to swivel out.
*Note I am unlocked an rooted so my warranty is voided*
So I am looking for a possible diy fix. I was not able to find the small plastic piece that broke. However I've thought about maybe getting something similar in size and possibly gluing it in place. I've attached a photo for reference.
Any help and ideas are greatly appreciated.

I bought this tablet off Amazon's Warehouse Deals. It came to me dinged and scratched up, but operable. I noticed the touch screen was a little off and would report false touches occasionally, but I didn't think it was anything to worry about. Like a kid in a candy store, I raced to get a new ROM so I could optimize this thing. In the process I unlocked the bootloader, rooted and installed PACman ROM. Ghost touches disappeared--gone for like 3 whole days. I'm ecstatic, and falling madly in love with this tablet. Then I notice the ghost touches coming back after the 5th day I have had it. Now its showing about 3 ghost touches almost constantly in one vertical line (in landscape) on the right side of the screen. Pretty much totally inoperable. I have scoured all ends of google, and most of the time it spits me out here, searching thread after thread of nothing but "RMA it". My questions are:
Is there any fix to this besides shelling out money for a new digitizer? Is that the general consensus that the digitizer is the root of the problem? I know I'm able to return the product, but does anyone know if Amazon is going to give me grief over an unlocked product that was a scratch-and-dent deal anyway? Any way I can re-lock the device? I've seen multiple threads with replies saying "lol didn't you read the blah blah? no way bro", but these were posted a couple months ago. Maybe something new has come up. I guess I just feel sorta rooked because I bought a defective piece of hardware, and now I can't get a refund just because I modified the software.

Same thing happened to my brother's tf300t. He returned it as defective, but I guess you could replace the digitizer. As far as I saw, it was a hardware problem, so it requires a hardware fix. Sorry

Yes it was through amazon. He had unlocked it and installed TWRP and CROM or CM i dont remember.

I got a similar situation in the last two weeks. The problem I have is that my TF300T is keeping rebooting by itself. I've googled it and people say most likely it's a hardware issue. I am trying to find a way to see if the device can be reset to factory condition so that I can return it for repair. Looks like we are on a same boat. Hopefully I can find a way to do so.

I popped off the back of the device (three guitar picks did the trick), and disconnected the digitizer ribbon cables and reseated them. Problem vanished. My best guess is that the keyboard dock puts odd pressure on the device. That mixed with rough handling is bound to cause some problems.

It could be the power button is jammed? I know mine is really touchy (all I do is tap it with my stylus and screen turns on/off. Good luck!

Thank you. I just got mine from Groupon as refurbed.. (they did a ****ty job, apparently) Ghost issue about 2 days after getting it out of the box. By then already unlocked and flashed CWM.. sigh.
I'll try your fix tonight. Any chance there is an image of the right connector/ribbon?
Hopefully the image quality isnt too bad. I took an exacto knife and gently pried up the black foam squares, set them aside and worked my magic. Hope this helps. Just be careful with the ribbon cable (duh). Hope this helps!

Did this today.. So far, 20 mins on it, and no issues. Typically took about 5-7 mins before. So, crossing my fingers this is gone.

Im in the same boat with this Ghost Touches Issues, and its getting worse, sometimes im working at college and this Ghost appears and the tablet gets almost unusable, Only the Keyboard Dock saves me.
Please if you can give me more detailed instructions i think i would be brave enought to do this surgery to my tf300t, merry christmas!

i just noticed that when having a ghost touches attack, if i put pressure con the tablet, lime trying to bend it, the touches vanish.
I also have the ghost touches but it seems to only happen when the screen is dirty. As soon as I clean it off, they go away. Would a good screen protector help with that? I may go ahead and try taking off the back and messing with it.

I thought mine was fixed, but doesnt seem to be. I technically didnt remove the connectors.. I was nervous, they are WAY fragile. I simply unlocked and pressed firmly on them to attempt to reseat them..
Problem seemed to go away until I used Chrome. Chrome is what seems to trigger odd behaviors for me. I may try another browser and see if it still happens.
I've been dealing with this off and on for about 8 months; asus HAS to be aware of it as my tab has been back twice for this issue (out of warranty now) and I take advantage of their complaint form every month or so.
Here's what I've been working off of (based on personal experience/experimentation):
Re-seating the cables might help for a day or less, but isn't a permanent fix. I even went as far as strategic pieces of tape to hold the flex cables in place and tape across the connectors to encourage them to stay closed.
The first time I popped the back off the larger of the three flexes (with the silver wrap) had partially worked out of the connector on the driver board. Re-seated it and problem disappeared for about a day.
The large copper heat spreader was basically spot contacting the CPU and really wasn't touching the smaller ancillary chips (unit had been running warm for a few months, thought that might make things wonky). I pressed heat shield back down to ensure adhesion, and slightly molded the copper around each chip. Ghost touch gone for two days, unit way cooler running than before.
Here's the interesting one to me. Tonight I noticed that even just hovering my finger close to the screen I can get the 'touch dot' to show; this got me thinking about static. I held the tab in a way that at least one finger of one hand was touching the screen, like towards an edge (out of the active area) while using the other hand to touch the screen. Seemed like one hand was grounding the screen, like a charge couldn't dissipate from the surface.
Isn't this a "capacitive touch' screen? Could it be a matter of grounding?
I too purchased this tablet and dock from Groupon about 4 weeks ago or so as a manufacture refurb. My tablet does the same thing. After about an hour or so use most of the time it starts randomly acting like the screen is being touched. And it appears to only be in the upper right corner area (kinda where the lock screen pattern show up when you unlock it) in landscape mode. Sometimes it may take a little longer of use before it happens. It happens regardless if the dock is plugged in or not. I have figured that if I lock the screen and wait a few seconds and then unlock it. The ghost touches are gone for a while. I first began thinking it may have been a OS issue and hough about rooting and putting a custom rom on it. But from what I have seen on the web it doesnt seem to matter whether its rooted or not. So should I RMA it back or has any one had permenant luck with reseating the cable?

I'd try reseating the ribbons. I kind of doubt it would solve the problem since it's a refurbished with a latent defect. Bad ribbons would strike at random but do not wait for a while before acting up. Look at the glass surface under a magnifying glass and bright light. Hairline cracks cause this after the tab heats up, but you can't always detect them. RMA would be the safe option unless you're really pressed for time.
Ghost touches are back. Noticed I had alot of them when my storage was full. Used a previous recovery (same ROM, just earlier date with less junk installed) and it cut down the frequency of them happening. This is so weird.
I had those ghost touches when 4.2 roms started (CM and AOKP and all of the rest of them. Then someone, I don't remember who had compiled rom with decreased touchscreen sensitivity and ghosting was gone. I think they started with PAC or AOKP, I really don't remember.
Then I went to 4.3 and 4.4 roms and I didn't have one single ghost touch since then. I do noticed sometimes when I hover finger over screen it is registered as touch, but ghosting by itself didn't occur on those roms.
one cent fix
I have an ugly, but effective solution working on my pad right now. It has been in place for about three or four months.
Holding in landscape mode, pulled the bottom left corner back slightly and inserted a penny between the back and the lcd. This put enough torque on the screen to kill all of the ghost touches and it still fits into the keyboard dock. There is an ugly gap where the penny is, but it is now fully functional.
