New butterfly for the future - HTC Butterfly

It seems HTC has announced a new upgrade to the butterfly I would say, similar to the One X and then we got the One X+. I am not fully sure what the specs will be, but I guess there will be an upgraded battery and I wonder if it will have an Ultra Pixel or just the 13mp, you know, to keep the ONE in the spotlight with special features.
I am not fully sure how they can upgrade the D/B/DX besides battery, it seems pretty smooth as it is.
I was going to get one but now that the upgrade is coming, I think I will wait.
Discuss.
Here is the article: http://www.droid-life.com/2013/03/2...ease-a-butterfly-follow-up-new-droid-dna-too/
"When HTC first introduced the Butterfly last year, as one of the first devices on the planet to sport a 5″ 1080p display, our attention was grabbed immediately as it was identical to a device we had been tracking for months, codenamed the “dlx.” As you all know now, the “dlx” turned into the DROID DNA on Verizon and was indeed identical in specs to the Butterfly. Well, thanks to satisfactory sales numbers of the Butterfly, HTC CMO Benjamin Ho recently mentioned to a Taiwanese publication that they are planning a sequel. Naturally, our minds then wander into the land of DROID DNA follow-ups – perhaps the DLXPLUS?
We have written about the DLXPLUS a handful of times now. Thanks to HTC insiders and stops off for certifications, the device appears to be headed to Verizon with identical specs to the HTC One, which Big Red passed on. We’re talking a 4.7″ 1080p display, 2GB RAM, UltraPixel camera, and new HTC Sense 5.0 with BlinkFeed, BoomSound, and Zoe.
It seems a bit silly to jump to the new Butterfly being the little sister to the DLXPLUS, but they were so similar last year, that we can’t help ourselves.
There is no current time table on a release for the DLXPLUS on Verizon, but a couple of reports suggest that it should arrive within the next two months, well after the HTC One has made the rounds.
Are you willing to stick it out and pass on the Galaxy S4 to get a hold of Verizon’s One-ish variant?"

After the upgrade something else will come, and so on........Then you can wait forever because new things will keep appearing. It is a great phone and battery life is not bad at all as a matter a fact better than my S3.

True point, I am just looking to put a phone in my hands that I can hold on to for quite some years without needing to upgrade.
But if they upgrade this one hopefully they will just highlight these 2 for the rest of the year instead of putting out a ton of phones a year.
how well does your fare on battery life and other areas?

Battery life is definitely better than my previous S3. After a weeks using it, the battery is getting better and better, right now the battery widget said it will last for 1 day and half for a full charge, quite impressive for a small battery inside it.
I don't keep plugging it overnight, so at the morning it is about 80-90%, and it still having about 50-60% when it is about 9pm, and charging it back to full just took less than an hour, and ready for next day full day use, not bad.
However, battery drain a lot faster when playing games, battery will die a lot sooner than you would expected, I would say roughly 3-4 hours you will use up all the charge in the battery, and the phone will get warm (but not hot like S3)

Interesting actually. and I understand about the game draining use but what about everyday other use like internet, music, apps. I suppose medium to heavy usage, how does it fare during the day?

Such a hard decision.

Hello there,
I am more than satified with batterie life (note "i am not a gamer) but a heavy user because i have my own company. WIFI is always on so i am connected to the Internet 24/7. Besides that i make 25+ phone call's a day average 5 minutes each conversation but i never ran out of batterie at the end of the day. Screen time will be approx. 2 to 4 hours a day.
Kind regards

They say it will be the waterproof (Spritzwasserschutz) model without LTE. So it won't be the x920d I had because it wasn't waterproof. Might be an european version of the J Butterfly which could be great, the J Butterfly got S-OFF!!!

What a hot device! I have heard the news that HTC has applied the patent of a dual-screen slider phone and I just wonder if this upgrade of butterfly will use the technology.

I have tried to put my x920d under shower, no problem at all.

there's only one thing about this phone that bothers me...

the battery life. I mean 1230 isn't small compared to iPhone 3G that I currently have, so I'd assume it would last longer. I hope.
are there programs to optimize battery life? I've never used android and don't know hardly anything about custom stuff. I browse the web and check Facebook pretty often during the day (got to kill time on bus rides to class) as well as music and texting often. I'm a little worried about how the battery will fair for me :/
Anyone know if there are extended batteries for this? (I'd also assume that the one for the DHD fits as well)
I have seen 1600 batteries for the Desire HD so maybe they will work for the inspire
I totally agree. My ONLY reservation about the Inspire is the pint-sized battery!
I've had discussions on other boards about this exact issue, and there are some Inspire lovers who are so attached to this phone they feel offended when I try holding their feet to the fire during discussions regarding the battery life.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that even though most people who have already decided to buy the Inspire don't have any reservations about the battery life, I still do. But hopefully more info will come out regarding the lightweight battery. Then I hope we all can make a better decision on whether or not to get this phone!
I am certainly not going to let the battery size affect my decision.
I have seen many reviews all stating 10-12 hours with heavy use, it seems they have optimized this phone since the original desire HD

Thats pretty much how I feel about it, this phone is pretty damn fast and for 99 bucks it's a hell of a deal!
1200 mah battery?
That's gonna go fast with android....unless you take the "smart" out of smartphone (eg. Disabling 3g, auto-sync, email fetching etc.)
If you get this phone, an extended battery seems a must.....
Especialy since you're new with android. The iphone "just works" compared with android...you have to put your own tweaks here and there to make it your version of "perfect", but that's what makes android android

I love all the subjective guessing around here, watch some reviews read some reviews everyone has stated 10-12 hour battery life with moderate to heavy use, dont just assume because of the millwatt hours that it will automatically suck, and dont compare it to previous models because there has been some optimization
Officially, the battery is said to provide up to 6 hours of talk time and as much as 15.5 days of standby. Those are pretty amazing estimates for such a small battery. In our tests the Inspire 4G was able to provide 10-11 hours of use – including making a bunch of voice calls (some longer than 15 minutes), watching live-streaming TV news feeds, checking and answering my emails every 5 minutes or so, having the built-in GPS help find a friend’s location and even playing a few games of Solitaire. HTC is doing something right with squeezing so much from such a compact battery pack.

This is just one review of the many
Im sure there will be an extended battery for this phone. it makes no sense not to make one! and htc has been good so far so why not build an extended battery.
I've been testing this phone since late last week and can say that the battery live is comparable to most other android handsets currently on the market. If you're a heavy user, don't expect to get more than 9-12 hours out of the battery.
The longest the battery has lasted for me was 25 hours. On Saturday I used to phone pretty lightly (2 phone calls, a couple text messages, checked twitter throughout the day, downloaded 700MB worth of files for Dungeon Defenders over Wi-Fi, and played the game for about 30 minutes). When I went to bed, the phone was at 13% battery life, but I left it unplugged overnight to see if it would last until the morning. With all notifications and sync still on, the Inspire still had 3% battery life when I woke up 9 hours later.
I'd imaging if I didn't download 700BM of data the phone would have lasted much longer under "light use."

"Optimized" what do you mean? Is there proof that ATT optimized the rom to run longer then the original Desire HD?
The battery size isn't going to keep me away but i just like to know. I also noticed that the inspire has SLCD instead LCD in the DHD. Will the super lcd screen give a better battery life?
Eventhough, extended battery is released, how will it fit into the phone. Is there enough room for a larger battery. This phone will be my next sucessor to my nexus one. It will do til the next real Nexus. I just love the unibody style.

meanwhile there are posts from nick above from HTC source and he actually has the phone and he states over and over 9-12 hours heavy use.
ok guys, I'm very excited about getting this phone. But I don't really want buyer's remorse, so help convince me 100%!
to be honest, I like having the latest and greatest phone. I constantly monitor the tech world (Gizmodo and Engadget are my top two pages on Chrome!), but coming from a 18 month old 3G iphone, pretty much anything now is an upgrade. I just don't want to regret getting this and being locked in for two years while the "future" is released in half a month afterwards. So justify the things holding me back:
screen resolution
battery
single core Scorpion
no sideloading
if you guys could kindly help me out, it would be greatly appreciated!

well the supposedly great qHD screen on the atrix has been having some none pleasant reviews with colors and app recreation. The superamoled on samsungs has burn in and doesnt save battery so the SuperLCD doesnt look that bad huh?
Battery has been consistently getting 9-12 hours heavy use by many reviewers
the processor in the inspire is pulling 1976 quadrant scores bone stock
sideloading really not a big deal, use airplane mode or sideload wonder machine
any questions?

side load wonder machine is from android central and it allows you to sideload apps on AT&T phones that dont allow it. PS theres a thread in one of the Inspire sections on here

My battery life is awful!

So I'm enjoying my overall experience with my Sensation but it's really not cutting it in the battery department. I've upgraded from the G1 and the battery life isn't any better. The G1 was great for a while but after being 2+ years old the battery would barely last a full day with minimal usage and every setting off, I could no longer take it. It became so frustrating I had to upgrade for mostly that reason, not to mention the lack of features, and the fact I've had the phone since launch lol. Needless to say, I feel like I'm having the same battery issues as before. For instance I took the phone off the charger this morning and started reading some post here on XDA via the app and after 1 hour and 36 minutes my battery life went from 100% to 67%. I love the phone and while yes battery life is important to me I almost refuse to handicap my phones full potential for it. What should I do?

Search here and in the Q/A forum about getting better battery life and what to expect out of your battery. There are a ton of discussions already with a lot of helpful information for you.
Remember if your device is new... it takes a number of discharge/recharge cycles before your battery gets good life.

plenty of battery threads already.. 1:36 with a 33% battery drain would extrapolate to >4.5 hours of display-ON time. Most ppl consider that pretty (or even VERY) good. If you are going to play the "won't handicap" card so soon, probably no hope for you except get some other phone for which it is easier to get a monster/fat battery.
I came from a G1 as well. I think battery life is MUCH better on the Sensation.

The only way to get through a whole day of moderate-heavy use with this phone (and most Android phones) without crippling it is to carry a spare battery or plug in the phone throughout the day when near AC power... Sad but true..

I'm with you. I can get 8 hours out of the phone if I only have 2 hours of on screen time. My average, with medium to heavy use, is 6 hours and change with 3 - 3 1/2 hours on screen time. And this is with the screen brightness down to 75%. There is no way there is 7 hours straight of on screen time with this thing IMO and from experience.
NOTE: I am piggy backing, but i am not sure if the person is referring to 7 hours on screen time or 7 hours in general.

I'm pasting a post I posted in another thread about my battery life:
Ok... I have a total of 3 OEM batteries. One that came with my phone and 2 other spares. The one that came with my phone is about 3 weeks old, My newest one is only 3 days old and the middle child one is about a week and a half old. I basically charge them fully then wait until it drains fully and turns off before switching the batteries.
Someone said that after a while battery life gets better. I am proof of that. When I first got my phone I was lucky if it lasted 8 hours and amazed if it lasted 10! Last night my 3 week old battery lasted over 14 hours with moderate use! The middle battery that's a week and a half old lasts about 10 with moderate use (same like the first, only getting about 8 in the beginning) The newest one (still going through the 5 charge conditioning cycle) only lasts about 6-7 hours tops.
I dont know if it helps(or hurts) but since I always have an extra battery with me I never half charge them(especially during the first 5 or 6 charges). I always will let it drain then switch
I moved from the HTC Evo 4G and batterylife is much much better with the sensation. Light to moderate use after a 12 hour day i have between 20 and 40 % left. I ordered 4 extra batteries and xtra chargers so i would have extra full batteries at home and at work but i havent needed them. I was so used to the evo that i wish i would've waited on ordering all the batteries... I just assumed it would be about the same...Way better than the evo though. I have friendstream (twitter and facebook) syncing every 3 hours, weather 3 hours and at unlock, mail/calender syncing.( no news, no tell htc, no android backup) i was amazingly surprised. yay sensation!

I have specifically held off from getting another battery cuz I wanted the original one to settle. Now that I have a decent idea of the life span I will look into a new one. I am not sure if I want to by the off brand 1800 one every is talking about or get raked over the coals for an HTC one. decisions...
here's what I've found after having the Sensation since day one. If you are at 2.5 hours of screen on time in the battery stats, chances are your battery is below 30%, and most likely below 20%, no matter what you were doing with the phone (barring constant video playback). I average about 2-3 hours of display on time each day, and I get about 14-16 hours consistently. I sync gmail, email and facebook, pulse and weather auto update. I use wifi and wifi calling constantly.
I set my screen brightness to about 40%, give or take.
I can live with this as it gets me from 5am when I go to work until when I go to bed, which is really all I expect.
I will look into the evo 3d battery though, as that seems like a logical replacement given its higher capacity and compatibility with the Sensation.

[Q] Buying HTC Mozart or wait?

Hi,
I have a question, I considering buying HTC Mozart. Please tell me is it worth to wait for HTC Radar or not? It will be huge difference in hardware or just cosmetical. I know it has Front Camera but, I also have it on my Touch Pro and never used it. Camera is also not important for me, I have profesional camera. I can buy unbranded HTC Mozart so there is Mango update for it and the price for Radar will be possibly twice. I'm not interested in bigger screens like 4,3 or 4,7". What you adviceing?
I heard also there will be Samsung Focus Flash with 1,5Ghz but i'm not sure if I need it or this processor change anything.
Thank you.
The Radar will have a better battery and a newer processor, which in theory should give you better battery life. Otherwise I'd say these phones are pretty much the same.
I've had the Mozart for 10 months and I'm in love with it. I've never had any problem whatsoever. I'd say the size of the screen is just perfect. If you can get it for half the price you would get the Titan, then get a Mozart!

The Radar will have a better battery and a newer processor, which in theory should give you better battery life. Otherwise I'd say these phones are pretty much the same.

how long in hours or days mozart stay alive in one charging?
on average, I get 14-16 hours with one charge. I have managed to keep it running for about 45h once without a recharge. I wasn't using my phone at all for those 2 days and it still had a little charge left.
But with "normal" use, it's about 14-16 hours - not much but just enough for one day

It really depends on how often I turn it on. It usually lasts through the day, but only when I don't use it often.
..with a Mugen Power 1800mAh battery I am coming close to 60 hours...

I am not using my Mozart hardly - few text messages by day and a few phone calls, e-mail syncing over EAS hourly and it stays alive up to 3 days. Turning off data connection helps a lot.
And stopping playing too much helps as well ;-)
thank you all. I wonder how good battery will have Radar I heard that Mango update bring some battery life improvements, anyone can confirm this?

Those battery life improvements come with additional battery drains like multitasking, so on average nothing should change.
Basically there's one metric I look at. At some sites such as Anandtech, you can get benchmarks for battery life. There's a bunch of useless stuff there but one thing that matters is "3G Browsing". That's important because this mode utilizes all the battery hogs - the screen, the CPU, and data transfer. Thus, by looking and comparing this metric, you can get a general feeling of what another device will be like, for your current usage pattern (i.e. how often you turn it on and do things during the day mostly, while data transfer is enabled all the time).
The old-gen Snapdragon phones usually get about 4-5 hours of 3G browsing, while the iPhone 4 gets 8-9 hours if I remember correctly. So, using my Mozart sparingly, I have it last through the day, and iPhone 4 could last approximately twice as long.
thank you for answer. so if I would like web browsing a lot I should consider buying iPhone. I don't like them every one want to have it but I will consider this especially I get offer of new iphone 4 only little more expensive then mozart (+1/3 of mozart price)
oh hell no! Dont get an iphone...get a windows phone!
Ouch... I have blood on my hands...
You could wait for Radar battery tests.
I will wait... don't worry. Personally I prefer WP.
but radar will be more expensive then mozart and iph
one4 which I can buy, i'm not sure if not too expensive for me around twice price of Mozart
thank you for your opinions.
If you can wait, do wait. Right now is the worst time to be buying a phone. In just a few weeks or so, it will be the best time to be buying a phone.
A little patience will go a long ways.

Traded: Tegra 3 One X for S4 One X ... WOW!

Disclaimer: This method may have been due to the fact that my device or digitizer (I'll explain further) was damaged or I had a lemon. But here is my story:
- Sold an unlocked 4S for $450
- Wanted to try out Android and hate Sammy devices...
- Decided to give HTC One X a try
- Didn't have an upgrade so had to buy an unlocked international version because it released earlier.
With my international HTC One X from Malaysia, I would barely squeeze out 2hrs of screen time, and would have to charge my device 2-3x a day, and have yellow light leakage and spots around the screen. The device would get hot and had screen flexing and sensitivity issues. Right out of the box it was glitchy and the OTA's didnt solve much. I went from ROM to ROM to ROM and battery saving apps to CPU controls for a solution. I would literally drop 2-3% every minute, and sometimes in a matter of 5 mins I would drop 8% battery. I did the built in Battery test and would get 90% after an hour and it would say batter health = good. All of this to no avail, I WAS FED UP!
I was sick of it and found someone who wanted an International One X and had an AT&T One X. He knew about the battery and screen issues but decided to trade anyway.
BOY OH BOY! The difference is night and day. It's been a few days and I have never been happier with a phone. I get close to 4 hrs of screen time on the same level of usage on one charge. 3-4 hrs of music, 1 hr web browsing, texting and phone calls all day, facebook/twitter 2-3 hrs. No heat issues and no dropoff in performance even with just 2 cores. NO LAG or random reboots at all. If anything the device feels faster! While in hoboken/nyc the other day I got 4G LTE (since AT&T doesnt have LTE all over jersey yet) and it was freaking amazing. Close to the speeds I get with my FiOS connection at home.
Anything with Nvidia in it or on it I've ever owned so far has been faulty and been a nightmare. Idk if its just my badluck or coincidence.
But thats my story. I talked to my engineer buddy and he said my phone deff had a bad digitizer/screen that was eating the battery unnecessarily.
Anyone with their thoughts?
Yea S4 is more power efficient than Tegra 3 the only thing it bests the S4 is in its graphical capabilities

This is awesome to hear. At first I was bummed they changed the processor but this story exemplifies why.
The only other gripe I have about AT&T's decision making is the storage. But what can you do? I don't listen to all of my music anyways.
Not to mention the wifi (squeeze test) crap.
Glad we have the less problem ridden version here.
I've never been happier with a phone.

I made the switch just as you did because battery life was terrible on the Tegra 3, due to a VERY outdated kernel and 40 nm?? whereas I believe the Snapdragon S4 is at 28 nm and a more recent kernel. That really does make a huge difference. I usually just text, fb, and browse the web and with auto-brightness, auto-sync and widgets on I get ~ 4 hours of use whereas on the Tegra 3 I got about < 2 hours. I was just as fed up and disappointed as you were.
Re: battery, I will say this:
Only charge it on the charger it came with. Charged it s couple time on my Touchpad charger, and while it appears to charge up faster, the battery will "drain" faster.
I haven't even opened the charger it came with >_<
The S4 is pretty superior in every single way besides gaming, but even then the S4 is pretty damn awesome haha.
Glad to see you are enjoying it.
If you really wanna have some fun, download linpack and watch pure domination. 226 bone stock..

Not sure I understand how that would be possible. If the battery is fully charged why would it drain any faster if it was charged by a different charging method?

My perception just from observing the international One X forum, is that the Tegra 3 SoC on the international versions is glitchy as hell, causing various serious issues, and that NVIDIA is notorious for being slow to fix these sorts of bugs.

Never thought that maybe the screen/digitizer could be causing the battery drain.
How hot was it getting? Every One X I've had gets pretty hot.

Even with the s4 I don't know how you guys are pulling 4 hours. Are you using it all at once or sporadically throughout the day?

I have been getting 4 hours of screen time since I got my one X on Saturday. Pretty consistently actually. Usually right at 4 and a half. I use it sporadically at work, usually 2 hours worth by the end of the day.
Then when I get home I do pretty much the same thing, I browse XDA while I wait for games to load on PS3 or Vita.
I do not stream music or anything.
Sync files with dropbox.
Wifi typically on.
Screen with auto brightness enabled.
Minimal game play (I have a PS Vita for that but I occasionally succumb to Words or Temple Run)
My idle time can go up pretty high if I so choose but I will only get the 4.5 hour screen time on auto. Which is good for me since that's what I got on my Atrix with the brightness at minimum most of the time

Best I ever saw was 3.5 hrs screen on time by the time I was down to 50%. Probably would have gotten 6+ hours if I kept it going. That was with very heavy internet/FB/xda over a 6 hour period.

Yeah, it was hard to go from such great battery to the other HOX I returned the other day that would MAYBE pull an hour screen time. Here's hoping that this new one I got today will be like my first one.

I wanna go back and test what I had on the old One X but I don't remember if it was 1.85 rooted or cleanrom 2.1.

I'm getting 2 to 3 hours screen on time with around 15hrs off charger and my battery will be at about 15%. It definitely does the job for me!
My acer a500 and my GTX680 card have both been fantastic I guess I got lucky with my nvidia stuff.

[Q] Whats your next phone?

Just wanted to see what you current sensation users who are planning on upgrading this year have in mind. I'm thinking about either the s5 or m8, but leaning more towards the s5 for the removable battery, camera, and lighter weight. I haven't had the chance to play wit either one, but those are my thoughts right now. I've been a sense user since forever, but would like to try out touchwiz despite all the bad things i heard about it (heard it may have improved in the s5). Would love to hear peoples thoughts. Thanks

I want M8 but 4mp camera is a deal breaker for me
at first I thought HTC would use 12 mp:laugh: (with ultrapixels )
So I will stay with my XE this year even its volume key is a little bit loose

you are expecting too much from HTC
I upgraded my sensation in February to the One (M7), however I still cannot put my sensation down for a minute... The development is far too good on this device to forget about it...
For me a large screen and good battery life with Acer Liquid S2 ^^
My Sensation cant be drop ^^

I never had an issue with battery life on the sensation. I still use the original battery came with the phone and doesn't matter what rom I use, can squeeze at least 24 hours out of it. However I have to admit I have always drained the battery down to 4-5% and charged it back to 100% without a cut. (That might have helped to optimize the battery?) I experience the same with the One. Excellent battery life, 1.5-2 days with general use and some games. Although if I don't use 3g, it is off. I have no issues with non removable batteries, I think the are made to last. And I do the same with this, drain it till 4-5% and charge it back to 100%.

There's a rumor that there will be the HTC Butterfly S's successor (13mp)
Maybe it'll be my next phone
