I'm about to buy a new phone to replace my aging and decrepit A885 OG Droid. 3 devices currently have my attention: Note II, Droid Razr MAXX HD, the Motorola DNA, all on VZW.
There's one thing I have been unable to find about these devices, and that's how the SD card is handled by the OS. I've learned, from the Asus tablet I have, that virtually mounted SD is a HORRIBLE idea, and want to make sure my new phone has directly mounted SD (so utils like App2Sd function properly, and system storage uses all available internal storage).
TL;DR: Does the RAZR HD mount the external SD as a virtual or directly as a physical storage device?

Friends, I wanted to ask if anyone knew of a way that I could use my external sd card as the primary storage rather than the stock 6gb that came with my phone.
I have a Droid x2, it comes with 4gb internal storage, 2gb locked app storage, and I put a 32gb micro sd into it for the external storage.
I am not rooted as of right now, due to some issues I was forced into doing a reset, so I running stock GB 2.3.4.
Is it possible to somehow use the 32gb card as a primary default storage, and have the little one as external?
Thanks for your time and assistance.
I just got a Samsung Memory 32GB Evo MicroSDHC UHS-I Grade 1 Class 10 Memory Card without Adapter For my new Moto G 4G. I put it in, it said "SD Card removed. Insert new SD card" on the task bar. I then wiped it and tried to mount it, but it then apparently the file system didn't work. The SD card doesn't seem to work on this phone. But here's what really got me- I put it in my 3 year old HTC Sensation, and it worked 100% perfectly.
Am I to believe that a 2014 phone is inferior in supporting peripherals to a 3 year old 2011 phone?
Anyway, unless there's something I'm doing wrong I'll need a new 32GB or 16GB SD card. Anyone link me one?

Class 10 UHS cards cause problems. Try a class 6 card.
Hello everyone, i have an UBTEL_U8 china phone octacore with Android 4.2.1. It only has 1gb of internal memory plus 12gb of rom. For this reason, beacuse i can't move apps to rom memory, i need an sd card to move apps on. I bought a Lexar 16gb class 6 sd card 4 months ago, and everything works fine until yesterday. I used link2SD app for moving apps to sd and i made a partition ext2 into the sd with AParted app.
everythig works fine, until i had to dismount my sd from phone and mount it again, because i had to change the partiton format in ext4 to ext2 (no really good reason to do this, i was trying if it was faster to moving data then ext2 filesytem). Once dismounted, wheni tried to mount my sd, the phone says that it's damaged!!! I inserted it with the Lexar card reader into the pc but tells me that i have to format, but if i try to format it's not working...
The same thing happened with another lexar 16gb card on my previous china phone, it broke my sd during charching!!! when it was charching the touchpad went crazy and system unstable and when i removed the phone from charching the memory was dead.. It's not done yet.
I had another china phone that stole my on march, a copy of Note 3. My sd card broke with no reason.. but i was using a similar app to link2SD for extend memory (apparently all china phones have only 1gb internal memory... why!!!!???)
So, in 1 year i changed 3 phones, 3 china phones, and all of them destroyed my sd cards... Now i want to know if it's possible to save the sd cards, and i want to know if the problem is really inside the phone, or it can be fault of linking apps to sd, and so if it's fault of link2sd and Aparted.
Next time what sd i have to buy? a quality one that resists to china phones maybe..
Thank you for you help..
I recently bought a new Moto G LTE. Shortly afterwards I bought a cheap 32 GB SD for additional storage off eBay. I would have bought a larger card but was under the impression that 32GB was the limit for the Moto G. The card works OK for about 24hrs and then suddenly the apps that have been moved to the SD disappear. No error message, just gone. I get the impression from similar threads that the SD card is the likely cause of the issue. What I want to know is: can a 128GB card work with the Moto G LTE, what class / brand of SD would be best, and what would be the best file system to format the card to?
Many thanks in advance!!

Don't buy those cheap eBay SD cards, they're really poor quality. Stick with the known brands (i.e. Samsung, Sandisk, PNY, etc.) and buy from a reputable source to avoid knockoffs. Any size card should work as long as its formatted to FAT32, but the largest I've tried so far is 32GB (I have a 64GB Lexar card on the way though) . I have a 32GB Samsung card now and it's given me zero issue.
Fair enough. Does anybody have experience of using a 128gb card in the Moto G LTE. Don't want to spend the money and have a SD card I can't use again
@Zhordania ..... Can't help re 128gb card but I am running 64gb card on 5.0.2 with no problems. I first installed it on 4.4.4 and found that it wasn't recognised when I originally formatted it as NTFS (which as you remark gives faster file transfers and can cope with larger files) so I had to format it as FAT32. I'm running XT1064 moto g with unlocked bootloader, rooted and with TWRP recovery but otherwise standard stock firmware not a custom rom and I don't really know if the failure to read NTFS was due to the moto g architecture or kernel or maybe it was a bug in 4.4.4, thinking about it I might back up the sd card contents to my laptop and then format it again and see if 5.0.2 can read it. I know that the majority of posters tend to format their cards using the moto g but I always format using my windows laptop. I have used apps from the play store to force NTFS compatibility on various devices in the past but I've never been completely satisfied with the result.
This forum is of Moto G 2nd gen (2014)
not Moto G LTE.
In this thread you will get some information but I think an update solved the issues with UHS class 10 cards http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783238
compatible card
I looked into getting a 128GB card from one of the brands recommended above but the cost was a bit severe (~$70). I gambled trying another cheaper card from the notable auction site and it's working without any issues. I've moved my downloaded apps to it and everything is stable. Best thing is that it only cost around $14. I dont know what the rules are here on providing links to external sites but the shop is called fzeroinestore
I have a Galaxy S4 that I've been holding onto because it has been reliable, and it has what I currently need in a smartphone:
removable battery
expandable storage (SD card)
rooted
Lately I've been considering a new phone, but many new phones do not seem to have the above items.
Is there any new phone on the market that has these items?
If not, what would be the newest / most recently made phone on the used market that meets those criteria?
I'm with AT&T, btw. I could potentially switch carriers for the right phone.
Thanks!
