I recently brought a htc desire s rooted with sense 3.0. Today when i was downloading an app the phone blocked on the start screen and i couldn t do anything. I got the battery out and reiserted it but after de load screen ..nothing..i could see the screen was lit but nothing. After repeteing the process for 5 times it finally worked and the phone started..What could be the problem? Please help me. And also superuser is not working. it says it failed application or something like that every time i use it or some program tries to use it..The same with programs that require root. They just fail.the rest of the programs work perfectly and the Sense ui is smooth. What could be the problem?
hey..may be the root was done badly..steps missed..try reformating ur fone..re-root and install a fresh rom..Htc runnymede sense3.5
works grt!
the good thing is that your phone is not bricked
i would check what eMMC phone has
and of course flash a new rom
reboot to recovery and check for error messages like: "E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log"

how do i check what emmc chip it has?And what do i need to look for?
Just be careful with pulling the battery... there is a known issue with the Desire S where that menrioned eMMC chip gets messed up when power is disrupted by pulling battery... apparently Power and Vol up Vol down all at the same time pressed do reset the Desire S when a freeze occurs... also.. update apps in market only one by one... and read the threads here in general section a but further down.. Greets

Thanks for the info...but how do i find out what emmmc chip i have and what is the best rom to flash? Mine says proxuser but i cant overclock or anythnig? Cyanogen for the desire s is good?
use esfile explorer start it up tap left upper corner the star select phone then follow this path /sys/devices/platform/msm_sdcc.2/mmc_host/mmc0/mmc0:0001/ tap name open as text tap the first choice.
Mine is m4g2de which is the crappy one i think not sure
Do an s-off and re-root the phone with this
Don t install su 3.0 ,it s terrible unstable on desire s.
Try to flash a custom rom( that is more powerful than Stock rom)

I used four the last few month the Virtuous Unity ROM which runs perfectly on my Desire S with excellent battery use...ATM however I am on MIUI ROM which I also really like as it is so cool with theming...just try them all out...at the end your own preference rules! ;-)

Just copy the ROM in my signature to your sd card and boot into recovery, and use install from sd card option to flash it.
If you want a sense 3.0 ROM, this is the best out there. For Non-sense ROMs, you can try CyanogenMod or MIUI
However, i would first recommend that you download 4EXT recovery (link in my sig) and flash that instead of CWM (from inside recovery). Then use the format option to reformat your system, data and cache partitions to ext4 and then flash the ROM.

Might i suggest that you edit your first post and amend the topic by adding the prefix [SOLVED] to it, so its clear that you've found the answer you were looking for?
It will also attract the attention of those in a similar predicament as you were in when you started the thread.

No. I have this "chip" too, and as long as you do not do a battery pullout when the phone is switched on, you are safe. There is no hard and fast rule that your phone will get fried just because you have this chip. Lots of people have it on their phones and most aren't even aware of it! So i wouldn't worry too much about it.
Even if by mistake, you do pull out the battery while the phone is powered up, DO NOT REINSERT IT IMMEDIATELY. Wait for around 30 sec to a minute, then reinsert it.
This is very important. You shouldn't be doing battery pulls, but if you HAVE to, wait for some time before putting it back in... i guess it'll give some time for the capacitors to discharge and not cause a spike of current when you reinsert after some time.
Seems to be working well for people who are doing frequent battery pulls, despite being on the same eMMC chip as us.
Hope this helps you.

just add a couple of layers of scotch or packing tape to the back. something light. dont use anything like duct tape
Are you sure its SIM unlocked?
There is SIM unlocking and boot loader unlocking.
They are different. You want SIM unlocked.
You can buy a SIM unlock code from websites.

i think there is some problem with the radio.. i'm going to update it to the latest ruu first ..

Digging up a thread that is almost a year and a half old and just saying "I have the same problem" without any specifics is not the right way to post a problem.
Is your phone modded (bootloader unlocked, custom ROM, etc.)?
What are you bootloader details?
Stock ROM or custom? If custom, which one?
Did you flash anything recently? What was it?
Did the issue arise after flashing something new, or just started on its own?
Also, a solution was already posted several times on this thread. Did even bother to read the thread, and try the fix?

Well, did you try to put tape on the SIM, as suggested multiple times on the thread?
Also, if you tried something, and it didn't work, than you need to state that when asking for help.
And dude, you aren't even in the right forum section. This is for the One X/XL, not the One.

Well, if you completely ran the RUU and updated to the latest, I can only think of two things:
1. Your phone is blacklisted
2. Your phone hardware is damaged.
It could just be a coincidence that you flashed apps and ROMs prior to it dying. Relock and return to your vendor is all I got...

I work for tmo, quick question, how long has it been since you got a new sim card? You want to get a new one every year or so. Just make sure you go to a corporate store and not a branded retailer. I don't trust those guys. And if the store has one in stock, ask for a sim made in India. By far the best reception. Either the rep or you will have to cut it to micro though, it's a standard sized sim card.

the problem with my phone is battery discharges in 4hrs (even when switched on or off ) when mem crd is inserted
n discharges in 4hrs wen Switched on & does not discharge when turnd off (no mem card in this case)
is there any way to get it to normal stage without having to pay 5480 since htc is asking that much to replace motherboard n i lost warranty by rooting
I "don't" think your motherboard might be faulty.
If your motherboard was crappy, it would be affecting your performance of the phone. Since in both cases(mem-card in & mem-card out), the stand-by time is just 4 hours, the problem might be with the kernel, or heavy gaming. The only other reason for this might be, that, your battery "has" to be replaced.

Stock Rom's by JaggyJags are just ROMs which were stock, and rooted. So, they must be fine.
P.S.: The kernel might be the culprit here. Try superwipe, and then, RUU.
For RUU, go to http://androidfiles.org/ruu/?dir=Pico or search the xda-forum for it. Make sure you get the correct RUU (radio).
Here's on how to install RUU's: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500165
If you don't want all these, just flash the stock ROM.
If problem still persists, its related to hardware, as you feared.
:edit: You could check if there is any problem with the contacts (in the battery, where it comes in contact with the motherboard)... You could also install the RUU, and try to get the warranty. Just hope that HTC doesn't find any traces, or you would have to face the angry service man...
And, the motherboard costs around 6000-6500 INR, the last time I checked. I had dropped my phone into water:silly:,the phone wasn't booting up.
So, I reverted to stock ROM, deleted Superuser.apk from /system/app and took it to the service center. He told me: This phone has been dropped into water. The board might be short-circuited. We have to contact HTC to ask them to replace motherboard.
What I did: Opened up the screws, left it in sunlight, repeated the process the next day, and the phone booted up.:victory:

the only one i can think is that your battery probably is dying

Yea, i forgot to describe what happens after shut downs. So while running some app with XX% battery after shut down ( no reboot, no freeze, just bang... turned off ) it shows 1% or 2% left or sometimes XX%...and the only way to turn it back on is via cable connected to PC or wall charger, it's impossible to turn it on in any other way.

i think that when you are trying to switch it on the battery is not capable to provide enough power or while you are using apps and the cpu takes place so the apps can run then needs more power for it
maybe is that the reason too that you can switch on the device while connected to pc or charger
i think you should try a different battery

Search for RUU. You will find everything you need to know including links to download the files and instructions on how to use them.
Basically an RUU is like a reset button for the phone. It will wipe EVERYTHING off the device and replace it with exactly what came on the phone when you bought it. Just make sure you get the correct one. There are different RUU's for different carriers and regions.

I'm assuming that those 2 options you listed are the proper ones for your region. If that is correct, then it doesn't matter which you flash. Both of them should work.
The first one is probably the original Gingerbread ROM that came with the phone. The second one looks like it's the ICS update that came out last year.
It depends on what you want to do.

I assumed he wasn't s-on because of all the other stuff he said he was flashing. But that is a good point.
Sent from your phone. You should be careful where you leave that thing.
