I recently brought a htc desire s rooted with sense 3.0. Today when i was downloading an app the phone blocked on the start screen and i couldn t do anything. I got the battery out and reiserted it but after de load screen ..nothing..i could see the screen was lit but nothing. After repeteing the process for 5 times it finally worked and the phone started..What could be the problem? Please help me. And also superuser is not working. it says it failed application or something like that every time i use it or some program tries to use it..The same with programs that require root. They just fail.the rest of the programs work perfectly and the Sense ui is smooth. What could be the problem?
hey..may be the root was done badly..steps missed..try reformating ur fone..re-root and install a fresh rom..Htc runnymede sense3.5
works grt!
the good thing is that your phone is not bricked
i would check what eMMC phone has
and of course flash a new rom
reboot to recovery and check for error messages like: "E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log"

how do i check what emmc chip it has?And what do i need to look for?
Just be careful with pulling the battery... there is a known issue with the Desire S where that menrioned eMMC chip gets messed up when power is disrupted by pulling battery... apparently Power and Vol up Vol down all at the same time pressed do reset the Desire S when a freeze occurs... also.. update apps in market only one by one... and read the threads here in general section a but further down.. Thanks for the info...but how do i find out what emmmc chip i have and what is the best rom to flash? Mine says proxuser but i cant overclock or anythnig? Cyanogen for the desire s is good?
use esfile explorer start it up tap left upper corner the star select phone then follow this path /sys/devices/platform/msm_sdcc.2/mmc_host/mmc0/mmc0:0001/ tap name open as text tap the first choice.
Mine is m4g2de which is the crappy one i think not sure
Do an s-off and re-root the phone with this
Don t install su 3.0 ,it s terrible unstable on desire s.
Try to flash a custom rom( that is more powerful than Stock rom)

I used four the last few month the Virtuous Unity ROM which runs perfectly on my Desire S with excellent battery use...ATM however I am on MIUI ROM which I also really like as it is so cool with theming...just try them all out...at the end your own preference rules! ;-)

Just copy the ROM in my signature to your sd card and boot into recovery, and use install from sd card option to flash it.
If you want a sense 3.0 ROM, this is the best out there. For Non-sense ROMs, you can try CyanogenMod or MIUI
However, i would first recommend that you download 4EXT recovery (link in my sig) and flash that instead of CWM (from inside recovery). Then use the format option to reformat your system, data and cache partitions to ext4 and then flash the ROM.

Might i suggest that you edit your first post and amend the topic by adding the prefix [SOLVED] to it, so its clear that you've found the answer you were looking for?
It will also attract the attention of those in a similar predicament as you were in when you started the thread.

No. I have this "chip" too, and as long as you do not do a battery pullout when the phone is switched on, you are safe. There is no hard and fast rule that your phone will get fried just because you have this chip. Lots of people have it on their phones and most aren't even aware of it! So i wouldn't worry too much about it.
Even if by mistake, you do pull out the battery while the phone is powered up, DO NOT REINSERT IT IMMEDIATELY. Wait for around 30 sec to a minute, then reinsert it.
This is very important. You shouldn't be doing battery pulls, but if you HAVE to, wait for some time before putting it back in... i guess it'll give some time for the capacitors to discharge and not cause a spike of current when you reinsert after some time.
Seems to be working well for people who are doing frequent battery pulls, despite being on the same eMMC chip as us.
Hope this helps you.

hi friends,
i have just f*cked up my desire S!! pls help me out!!
i have done S-OFF with XTC - Clip and also ENG HBOOT,
i tested some coustom roms on my new device till now.
now i tell you what i did:
i had this rom on my device:
[ROM] 06-13-2011 SAGA LBC MOD v0.5.1 link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048203
then i wiped all data and cache over costum recovery (vers. 3.2.0.0)
after wiping i flashed this rom:
[ROM][Jun 14] Virtuous Unity 1.24.0 Sense 3.0 based on Pyramid link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122797
and rebooted my phone!
i also read that the recomanded radio for this rom is:
Recommended radio: 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2
but i downloaded the wrong radioimage - file and i flashed instead this one:
http://files.virtuousrom.com/vision/radio/Vision_RADIO_12.52.60.25_26.08.04.30_M3.img
i flashed the radiorom with fastboot ober adb - everything was OK but i took the wrong radio ROM so after reboot the device does NOT boot!!!!
AND i cant get to BOOTLOADER or recovery!!! USB is also bricked!!! my PC can not find my device ( ADB)
so i NEEED help pls help me out devs!!!
i don't think the desire s has JTAG. i could be mistaken though.
does the phone register as a usb device at all when you connect to usb and push the power button?
PUSH
@ all devs in here!!!
pls help me out if possible,
NO bootloader, no USB (ADB), no recovery, NOT booting --> is my device DEAD?!?
is there any chance to get back to life without any further hardware (JTEG - BOX)?!
nothing happens when i conect my desire s to my pc!
well to 99,9999% except if you are hardware developer and know how to write to the chip directly - yes it is dead
So, this means if you flash the wrong radioimage, it can kill your phone?

yes, i had bricked 1 year ago my htc magic with this
depends on the device, for example my old DHD recovered it's radio after i flashed a raido of the desire z, so it looks liek some devices got a protection against it
anyway, wondering why the desire s didn't has that protection when the dhd has, but can be duo locked down bootloader so they won't need it
i have to say i am surprised that flashing the wrong radio breaks it. the bootloader should remain unaffected by this and therefore still kick in and allow to flash a correct radio rom

I have always been told flashing the wrong radio will cause a brick. This thread seems to explain it for me. But whether this goes for every device I don't know.
Thanks for the link, L0cke.
But the initial question from the OP in that thread never got a precise answer...
"All I'm asking is to know exactly what is the real, down and dirty dynamics behind the radio flashing danger so I can be absolutely sure to avoid it in the future. I have yet to see a truly understandble explanation of this."
Can someone answer this in understandable words?
I actually never flashed a radio with my old Desire, even though I flashed roms like crazy and it always worked for me. I knew that flashing a radio is a critical process, so I thought unless something didn't work at all, I don't need to touch this radio stuff...
Over 600 views but no answer so far. I fear that I really ****ed up my new device.

if there is absolutley no life in it then its bricked and you cant do a thing anymore besides going to the store and tell them in the morning when you woke up it didnt turn on anymore.
ive done that with a samsung galaxy s 1 and i got a new one under warranty
if there is any sign of life then tell precise what kind of life there is in the phone then there mgiht be a chance of recovering it i think
i mean when you plug it in the ac will the charging light burn?
when you turn it on will there be any message on the screen?
if nothing is seen do you see the backlight of the screen turn on but dont display a thing

Any idea about fastboot commands?
As it still turns on it should be able to do something.
Instead of booting bootloader could you try recovery with vol UP and power
What happens when you do that?
Edit: not sure if that whas the combo as it dont work on my dhd. Will try it tonight when i get home on my gf here desire s

Hi guys, a little background :
I S-Off'd my Desire S a few weeks ago and installed/clicked gingerbread which i gather roots it?
One day my screen went blank randomly with just the notification bar showing up top. No buttons worked, couldn't turn it off etc.. so I did a battery pull. It then got stuck on the HTC screen, so I googled, tried clicking recovery/factory reset etc.. all while not really knowing what i was doing, but in the end it randomly loaded after a long wait.
Phew, or so I thought.
Now it constantly crashes, turns itself off, the camera doesn't work, force closes galore.. it's a mess. Figured the battery pull messed something up.
Searched a bit more and figured i should try and flash a ROM which might fix it and get it stable again.
Tried installing using 'download ROM' in Rommanager, it did all the installing and whatnot, but when it rebooted nothing had changed. Tried three times, same deal. Figure I should install a ROM via the SD card instead.
Found this forum and a relatively simple/safe guide :
I'm using the guide here : How to flash a perfect ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257731
The Rom is MIUI.
However, I'm only on step 2 : Format data. (Formatting /system was fine)
Clockworkmod says Formatting /data for about 5 minutes, then : Error formatting /data.
Help!
A big thanks in advance.

Could be a faulty eMMC chip on the phones motherboard, these tend to break after a few bad battery pulls?
If installing a new ROM on the phone wont work and you get data format problems I would do as posted above. If this doesnt work I would suggest a faulty eMMC chip.

Is there a fairly easy to follow guide that includes every step on here?
According to the FAQ I might have a fried chip.. the e:Unable to mount errors.
Can I still save it with the RUU?
I'm clueless, and a fair few of the guides are not too noob friendly tbh, could you please point me in the direction of an easy to follow guide?
I wish I knew how deadly the battery pulls would be before hand, but when your phone is frozen and you can't power it off, it seems logical. Arrrghg.
Much appreciated.

Since you still can boot into your system you are good.
Download the RUU that is right for you from here. Connect your phone to the PC and run the RUU.exe. It will hadle everything automatically. Then you will be back to Stock. To go back to custom ROM:
1) use Revolutionary
2) no need of Gingerbreak since you will flash a rooted ROM
3) flash custom ROM from recovery

Cheers. Yep, I got no phone detected, check your USB cable etc.. / ERROR [170] USB CONNECTION ERROR
I can't get into the phone to go into settings and turn USB debugging on though As soon as I get it functioning to that degree I'm not using it for anything other than calls in case I break it again. sadly, I could have earlier before I tried flashing a new ROM. Hindsight eh?
All I can get is HBOOT/ClockworkMod.
Tried RUU with the HTC white screen on and also while in Clockwork Mod.
Anything else I could try?
Thanks.

If yes download HTC sync and instal it, could be a missing driver.

If your intending on re-running revolutionary to S-OFF your device again then you must first de-install the program HTC SYNC from your PC, don't worry the drivers are left behind and there are all that you need.
This is already the 4th case that the "E: cannot open...." error is successfully solved. I am keeping track on all such posts constantly and in my opinion if we have some more evidences for solved errors of this kind it will be good to remove the "[solved]BRICKed: inside eMMC's dead..." thread to avoid stressing the users...
I think this is a mistake of a service technician that was too lazy to diagnose and just replaced the chip...and started a great panic in this forum
Could be true.
I personally think there where a few devices out there with an chip failure, but most of the reported faults where wrong classified and could have been solved other ways.
Maybe it would be good to write the conclusion at the overall section down, cause our device isn't the only affected.

I will write a "calming" thread besides the Guide that is in my signature or as a part of it, just waiting for more confirmations that generally the chip is not affected when there is an error. But it seems not much people are reading the guides they prefer to start a new thread...Anyway I have a friend that is working at a centre of a Mobile Operator for my country and according to him among the hundreds (!) Nokia's, Samsung's, etc., he got only one faulty HTC for repair for the last 2 years (and there is a practice to replace rather than repair as well)

Good point although hopefully any new user experiencing this problem for the first time will create a post in this forum and can get pointed in the right direction, or better still there's always the hope that they will look at the INDEX/GUIDES themselves and read some of the resources that have been made available for them to use.
Possibly create a list of most likely resolution strategies in a new thread so that they can be tried in order and I'll refer users to that in the section on eMMC issues at the bottom of the INDEX thread, where I've tried not to scare users into thinking that its all too late and its game over in the textual intro bit!

Hi,
Try posting HERE
Happen to have finally found that post searching all dayand looking thru it now, but thank you for being there. let you know how it works out for me. thx again
Ive been trying the unbrick method all day with diff linux systems, on 1st script I get..."The bricked device is on" ...Use the above node to perform operations using the emmc_recover tool". with NO feedback....
1.Would flashing the ARHD6 XE on my Tmobile Sensation 4g be the cause of the brick?
2. Would I have to us the Sensation XE package to unbrick instead of Sensation 4g if that were the case.
unbrick guide is Great, just need to know where I may be going wrong!
thx
One possible reason is your battery you mention that youre battery was 38% charged when you flashed. It may haved dropped during flashing and you might didnt notice the flash method did not finish properly.
Lesson here is do not flash rom if youre battery is lower than 50% coz you wouldnt know what will happen. For safe flashing make sure you are fully charged.
Hope you recover phone coz it looks like it will be recovered using the method posted by malybru.

Hi,
I do not know enough about this to comment.
Are you unable to post in that thread?
@darkmantra, Thx for the advice Ill keep that in mind from now on. But I did get to see the flash come to a complete finish and hit restart on 4ext, during the reboot is when things went dark. hope I do get it going tho, thx!
@Malybru, I found that thread hours after posting this thread, I can C&P to that thread if that's whats best... But the issue I have is as partially described here.
I have Tmobile Sensation 4G
1. Did factory reset with PG58DIAG file to SIM UNLOCK .1111111
2. Backup Recovery
3. decided to try new Rom, ARHD6 XE with beats (not sure if meant for TMO Sen 4G)
4.flash completed, went black on reboot
5. Computer now see it as QHSUSB_DLOAD
6.Used Ubunto8 & Knoppix to run script ./brickdetect.sh.... "No return" script reply
7. now the PHtoolz live CD, but "file not in Directory" when clearly in Home/Ubuntu folder
ANY ADVICE!!?

Hi,
i dont know how to start...
First problem with my HTC was yesterday, when i call phone shutdown after 1-2 min everytime i try it. It just shutdown instantly and reboot.
Today phone shutdown again but now it wont start. When i pull battery out for 3-5 min it will start, boot and shutdown. Now i have problems even to start it. It shutdown from bootloader and recovery too. Everytime it boots there was dialog "updating apps" but i didnt flashed anything for about 1 month, last app inistaled maybe 10 days before ? Nothing new.
When connect to USB its QHSUSB_DLOAD, phone looks off but i can feel its little bit hot on SD card, SIM slots.
I have new MB from HTC service, it comes with 1.29 HBOOT but i unlocked it and changed HBOOT everything was OK for 2 months.
Phone was 6 months on same ROM no changes.
InsertCoin 5.5.0
Can someone help me ?
Will give u info from bootloader if it power on

EDIT:
Ok so power on failed... Powered 3x times after 2 hours of trying it but only for 1 sec and then off.

Battery is OK tested on another one HTC Sensation (non-XE)
When is phone on charged LED doesnt do anything. Like phone is dead but it sucessful sometimes to get in bootloader for 1-2 second or boot into recovery but it dont finish because phone will turn OFF ( not recovery failure) it even turn off while it stay in bootloader and dont do anything

Lets try charge it over night... Thanks for your reply.
Will give u feedback
If that doesn't fix it then it could be time to replace your battery. Do you have another you can test with or are you still running on the stock one? I'm a heavy user and usually need a new battery every 9 months or so.
It's about time for me to replace my ankhor battery now as well...

lol ....its just that im reminding him (i got enough thanks already ) ...that xda provided us a great way to express our gratitude ..if i remind him this time ..he wont forget (probably) from next time onwards ..and that is a good practice (thanks is kept for a reason ..isn't it? )
I think you havea USB Brick, more common on older devices. You will have to download an RUU, Extract the ROM.zip from it...Rename to PG58IMG.zip and flash through bootloader. Someone else had a similar issue and doing the details above fixed it for him.
Run the RUU and open windows task manager, When ARUWIZARD.exe appears right click and open file location. Copy ROM.zip and paste to desktop, rename to PG58IMG.zip and flash through bootloader. At least trying this will also revert to stock for a warranty repair / replace

Hello guys, i've got serious problem here. My phone shuts down for no reason ( or i don't know which one is ) after using any application over 10 minutes ( games, web browser, forum app like tapatalk, etc.. ). I tried already battery trick ( putting piece of credit card on battery so i could have better contact with pins ) and still experiencing same problem, i installed 3.6 Sense based ROM ( ARHD ) down from 4.0.1 ( Viper ROM ) and guess what... still getting shut downs... What should i do? Buy new battery, factory reset, or something else?
Please help, thanks in advance!
P.S. I did some research on this subject, could not find answer on my problem.
My phone spec:
HTC Sensation z710e
ARHD ROM , all default settings ( no overclock, default kernel, audio )
Tried cm.10 , elegancia, viper and same problem on them all.
the only one i can think is that your battery probably is dying

Hi, please describe your problem; does it get frozen for a while and then reboots, or does it suddenly get dark and reboot?
Also, what about your hboot details?
Spit out from an HTC Sensation XE, a revived device while was dying due to lack of support, with TeamVenom, and other astonishingly amazing developers' benignity...
Get an new battery, Anker is your best bet

Yea, i forgot to describe what happens after shut downs. So while running some app with XX% battery after shut down ( no reboot, no freeze, just bang... turned off ) it shows 1% or 2% left or sometimes XX%...and the only way to turn it back on is via cable connected to PC or wall charger, it's impossible to turn it on in any other way.
HBoot version: 1.27.1100

i think that when you are trying to switch it on the battery is not capable to provide enough power or while you are using apps and the cpu takes place so the apps can run then needs more power for it
maybe is that the reason too that you can switch on the device while connected to pc or charger
i think you should try a different battery
guys, is there any way i can unroot my phone and do a factory reset? So when i turn my phone back on it's like the 1st time when i bought it?

Search for RUU. You will find everything you need to know including links to download the files and instructions on how to use them.
Basically an RUU is like a reset button for the phone. It will wipe EVERYTHING off the device and replace it with exactly what came on the phone when you bought it. Just make sure you get the correct one. There are different RUU's for different carriers and regions.

I'm assuming that those 2 options you listed are the proper ones for your region. If that is correct, then it doesn't matter which you flash. Both of them should work.
The first one is probably the original Gingerbread ROM that came with the phone. The second one looks like it's the ICS update that came out last year.
It depends on what you want to do.
