Bluetooth lag? Will they ever fix this? - Asus Transformer TF700

Will Asus ever fix the horrible Bluetooth audio delay this tablet has? I have a Samsung tablet and an Apple and don't have these issues at all. It is impossible to watch video on this thing because of such horrible lag. I guess since it is a year or so old it will never operate the way it should. I'm kind of sad I even purchased this thing. I think I'll sell it and deal with the loss. Who would want a lemon tablet though...right?

Are you on all stock software? It might be worth doing some modding. It could fix your problem and since its already a year old there is no warranty anyways?

And yet people mention the same issue on the Nexus, Galaxy and several other boards here. If your Samsung doesn't have it, lucky you. My mum's does, as does my sgs3.
Apple isn't a valid comparison. Or are you going to compain you can't hear an electric car, but you can hear a petrol one, too?

Yes, it is horrible and should have been fixed before the product was even released.
The work around I use is to watch videos with BSPlayer, you can offset the audio so it's in sync. A pain in the ass to do every time but it makes it work.

Been speaking with Asus reps on this

So I have been disappointed in this issue as well. I have sent my Infinity to Asus 2x. first time all they did was put in on a bench to "benchmark it" and sent it back saying no problems. The second time, I had to fight them to replicate the issue. here is what they replied with. I am still speaking with a rep there in a different place that was unaware of this issue and asked me to make videos for him to demonstrate the problem. I seem to be doing an awful a lot of leg work for them. Im hoping though that if they can recognize this as a major software issue that they will fix it. I would start complaining to them about it so they start to hear about this more.
This is what they said to me. I just got mine back a couple of days ago from them.
"Test Results: Unit did have delay when tested with bluetooth headphones.

Basically they blamed on Android OS is the issue (Google)!! expecting this...finger pointing when they can't resolved the issue.

The new update that came out yesterday seems to have fixed the problem!

[Q] Bluetooth and audio sync

Hello All,
First time, long time.
I bought a TF101 2 months ago...love the damn thing. Unfortunately after ICS my bluetooth (LG HBS-700) headset is now out of sync with videos. I have tried:
-mx player
-stock player
-cold boot
-fresh install
-different video formats
-equalizer/non equalizer
Unfortunately nothing works. Is there a way to fix this manually or is this a driver/ics issue? I travel alot for work and the TF has saved my sanity multiple times.
My TF is stock, no custom roms or anything of the sort. ICS is a great update other than this, so i cant really complain just yet Just a minor nuisance but its pretty high up on my day to day activities. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
bluetooth out of sync
same problem. Tot my headset was broken so I tried another bt headset and still the same problem. Hopefully, we can have another update for ICS.

I have the same exact headset, not sure if it's the headset or the tablet because i bought the LG headset after i got ics. But my problem is that the media connection disconnects randomly and refuses to reconnect. I have to reboot the tablet and repair the bluetooth headset. Can anyone else confirm that bluetooth (more specifically stereo bluetooth) has major issues in ICS?
Same problem here, I have tried three bt headsets, multiple video players and various file types and there is big audio lag in everything.
I am running Ricardo's CM9. Is there anyone who can look into this or is it something that Asus is going to have to fix?
Just wanted to say that I'm having the same audio delay problem on my Galaxy Nexus running Bugless Beast 4.0.4 and I'm using that LG headset too. It must just be a problem with ICS. Hopefully we'll get an update to fix it soon!
Same here with the roms
Same problems here, Using asus slider 101 with revolver rc2, and android revolution 3.2.1, everything's so fast and really good, but the audio lag kills it, if I use grooveip on it, they'll often overlap, in servere cases I have to reboot the device, so for now I'll just use grooveip and any video player with direct connection to the device, and use the bluetooth for music and such...
I just hope the great rom chefs can come up with a solution, heck It might be the ICS itself, being that it is in it's "baby" state...
It seems to this day, a lot of people are working for a fix on this, some say it's an asus thing, others say it's ICS, it seems that the issue is stemming from a incorrect value, here's a quote from one site:
"The root cause of the issue seems to be incorrect reporting of the A2DP HAL
(android_audio_hw.c) latency to AudioFlinger. The following 'in progress'
patch seems to make things better."
There used to be a patch floating around to try to fix the issue but, weather it'll solve it is beyond me because the patch disappeared along weather it worked or not.
Other sites are trying to resolve the issue themselves simply because asus is tight-lipped about it, or they're trying to solve it in due time...
For those that have the problems, are you rooted and have you tried another rom? I use the same headset as well as a moto S305 and theres no sync issues at all in bsplayer, diceplayer, stock player, netflix, and basically all the music apps that i use, ranging from 128kbps mp3s to flac files. Currently running Revolver 4 RC2 with Guevor's 17c kernel, on a B40 chassis. I didn't bother with the ota itself so i can't say if my machine has the same issues on stock, though Revolver is based on the OTA rom so i'm curious if there was some kind of tweak between the OTA and Revolver that made that problem go away.

I'm using Revolver 4 RC2, as I said before. It's definitely fully rooted, using guevor's kernel test 18e, I have 2 bluetooth devices with the same issue, a sony mw600 bluetooth stereo headset, and a htc brand ad2p stereo headset.
both have the same issue, worked fine in honeycomb, both stock and mod (revolver honeycomb, TF 3.11).
It might be a bluetooth model issue as you don't have the lag, as for the tweak, that part I don't know... I'll try to use guevor's kernel 17c though... I'll let you know how it turns out...
@3kgt
my issue is that the audio lag, the connection is fine though.
Well i gave mine to the store and used final days of warranty!
Mine did connect without problems, but no sound at all.
Tested with
Monster Iclearity HD
Jawbone Icon
Jawbone Era
And yet a nother uknown BT Speakers..
i'm using team EOS ICS stable version, and a Logitech Bluetooth speakers.
i can connect and hear the audio, there maybe a 1/2ms sec delay. i never noticed till you asked so maybe i'm just seeing things?
i tested playing youtube and watching movies on mx player.
Tried it, same issue...
Well, I reinstalled revolver ics 4.0.2, wiped cache, and dalvik cache, the op runs smoother than before with guevor's kernel 17c and no SODs (so far...), but the 2/3 ms delay is still there, let me clarify a bit on it.
Any app that makes sounds (mx player, poweramp, mixzing, stock player, angry birds, etc.) will have that delay on the asus slider sl101 running ICS, worse if I use voip apps like grooveip, it's only tolerable without bluetooth...
I can use bluetooth on Poweramp and mixzing since I'm only listening to music.
Well that the issue I have...
Can't do much on my end but wait...
Same
Same issue here since upgrading my Sony Tablet to ICS.
I've had exactly the same problem with my TF101 on any form of ICS that I've tried. An unacceptable audio delay to my Sennheiser MM-100 bluetooth headphones. No problem for music, but I can't watch video like this. The only cure I have found is to run a good HC ROM - at the moment it's Revolver 3.11.1, the more I use it the more I like it. Is ICS really worth it? Maybe for some uses; but mine is primarily for watching video when I go camping, a bit of internet and some games. And Revolver is perfect for that. It even recognises my 64GB SDXC card; which my Win7 64bit 6 core has problems doing.
I have found the most simple way to resolve this
I Will simply Sell my damn Tf101 !
Cause i cant watch most videos (Thanks to tegra 2 and codecs problems)
And now this damn BT problem ..
Same here...

yeah I practically did the same thing, only difference, I gave it to one of my family members, after I experience lots of system flaws other than the problem I have such as increased slowness (sometimes unresponsive), and large battery drain, on all roms... though the last (and pretty stable) rom I tried was android revolution, it's quicker, but some programs would crash and eventually become so annoying that I had to uninstall them. but that might be a slider issue and not the transformer issue as most devs are more focused on the transformer... I pretty much tried many things to it to at least be more in sync with my bluetooth but upon doing that I must've screwed the pad in the process and now it just no good no matter what rom I tried, be it the official asus firmware, or a custom firmware... As I said, android revolution was the last rom I tried and everything seemed real smooth and accurate but I couldn't cope with the issues the slider has. so in short, ditched the slider, and I'm going for either Samsung galaxy pad 2, or Motorola xoom... both 32gb internal memory... Well it's sad really but what can you do when a company fails on you hard...
UPDATE:
I just went to an electronics giant to try out the asus infinity by playing some games on it and syncing to my headset only to have the same issue with the lag... looks like this is strictly a maker's issue, no way anybody here can fix that, though I haven't seen if it was happening on JB, but I'm not taking that chance... got the note 2 and I'm good with that for now.. also I've noticed that some movies play with little or without the lag, this problem varies though on what type of movie you're playing, as I couldn't tell what causes that. I play mkv, avi, mpg and mov files via MXplayer I got both results, lag and non lag, same goes for native mp4 files. so this is with my knowledge and understanding way too difficult to pinpoint weather it's a codec problem or hardware problem or both.
Hope this shed a bit of know-how as I just gave up on it the time I gave it away...
otherwise have fun on an otherwise great innovation...

Hi I own a note 2 and meet same issue. Sound delay 1 second while using bluetooth headphone(Creative WP-250). Watch movie with mix player get 0 lag, but watching online movie or playing video game always delay 1 second. I think it belongs to android design problem because I connect my Bluetooth headphone with my iPad no matter what I do I can't find any lag. Would google notice this issue and fix it in the next update?

I went to one of the google offices in San Francisco (nice office by the way!), but did not find anybody there to help on the issue, plus I don't think they'll do anything yet until the problem becomes widely known. If anything they'll just say that the problem lies on the device (bluetooth or phone/pad itself) and not the os as most other companies would do. As did you, I found that problem on the note 2 a while ago, almost as soon as I got it, I figured the features on the phone outweigh the issues on bluetooth and I might as well wait and see if they are able to locate the source of the problem and try to solve it as best as they can...
I'll go back to them since I haven't seen any of the top brass there since they're either in a meeting at the time or they're located elsewhere..
I'll also try to let ASUS and Samsung know about the issue in case that the problem lies on hardware, but that may seem unlikely...

ASUS removed .30 update from there website.

i downloaded the most recent tf700t ota update which was the .30 update and when i go back to the website. it is no longer there. any reasons why?? maybe they werent supposed to send it out yet?
because it blows! even with limiting background processes limited to 4 i still get hangs.... its a pos (and i dont mean a point of sale) if you dont have it consider yourself lucky....

I find your comment interesting since I did get the .30 update OTA and I had no issues with the update nor have I had any issues after it finished. It is interesting that Asus pulled the update though I will give you that.
UPDATE: Wanted to add that I did not get the .26 OTA and had to do a manual update using the downloaded file provided by Asus Service located on their site.
Wow, I must be one of the lucky ones, my Infinity has been running so much better since this update my bencharks even went up, I used to get about 13100 on Antutu and now I get about 13590, browser hasn't hung once and I haven't had any game crashes, except the usual Nvidia bug, **** I even plyed Heist on power saving mode all the way through.
Sorry for those having issues, but this machine is so much better then my Prime was it isn't even funny.
Honestly I haven't found any problems with 0.30 update yet. The browser is actually less prone to crashes than before (or at least that is what I can observe). Not sure if this update is creating problems for people, but for me everything is fine so far.
After downloading this update on the first day it was pushed, I have had no issues at all. In fact, it could be in my head but it feels a little snappy when opening apps.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Every update you are going to have some people who say it caused issues. FWIW, I got it and it has not introduced any major new issues for me. In other words my tablet still has a few stability issues but I can't tell if they are new since ASUS' ICS firmware has never been 100% stable for me. On top of this, you always find some buggy apps that may have some issue with the update you hadn't seen before.
The only thing I think that may be "new" is: I got some crashes on the stock browser which were fairly rare for me prior (including one that locked up the tab completely)... I decided to use it as a motivation to test out Firefox for Android and it seems to be running pretty well after several hours of continuous use. So, overall, I'd say I have no major problems with the update.
They could have pulled it because a lot of people seemed to have actual problems with the download and install. Anecdotal: seems like I've seen way more problem reports/"need help" posts on the forums than a typical patch level update. I've seen several brick reports, too, which seems way out of line. So maybe they needed to look at an installer issue before they put it back up.
On the other hand, if you haven't gotten it yet I wouldn't worry much, I'm not seeing anything I'd consider a major improvement, either. I don't care about face unlock. LOL.
I did benchmarks as well. My numbers went up exponentially. Seems snappier! No issues whatsoever. Improved my blue tooth and Netflix now works. I'm a happy camper.
Before this update, I was having occasional issues with Chrome freezing and needing to force close. I didn't originally have this problem so figured it had to do with a Chrome update (I have it set to auto update so I don't know if it's was updated or not but something changed). After recieving .30 though, I can't say I've had an issue with Chrome.
I will say that the task/notification bar keeps popping up unexpectedly. And that never happened before. The tablet can be sitting in the dock open and the screen on but not touched at all by me and eventually the task/notification bar opens on the bottom right. I'm assuming this is a .30 update issue. Anyone else see this?
Chiming in.
No problems after .30 here either.
Yea i havent had any problems what so ever. don't know why everyone else is...

I remember the prime's firmware was uploaded on their site and some people were getting their devices bricked. The next day, the firmware was removed from the site. Maybe this could be the same.
Guys, after the update, games has been freezing up on me. Even Agent dash. Maybe this is why it was pulled?

bs player fcs on me now, black market fcs on me, and most importantly FILE MANAGER HD force closes on me. the hell asus ? it was great before that
Have had multiple issues since the update (only had the Infinity for about 2 weeks, and new to Android so not sure if I had it long enough prior to the update for these to show but all where working fairly flawlessly before):
BS Player crashes as soon as I tried to play a file - "Loading files..." - after a lot of googling, switched off something in the options about loading files and seems to work OK now
Dice player has frozen a few times
The email that comes with it - froze on one account out of three and wouldn't swap over - after about a dozen cold boots seems to have been OK for the past 12 hours
Dead Trigger, Modern War and City Crime - all crashing and freezing regularly (had maybe 2 crashes prior to the update)
Boat Browser and the stock browser have had a few crashes
No issues since the latest OTA. It seems snappier and more stable. I am much happier!
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Xparent Blue Tapatalk 2
When I first got the. 30 update my tablet started locking up and rebooting. It had never done that before the update. I did a cold boot and it still did it. I finally did a factory reset and now I haven't had any issues for the last two days. The tab is much snappier and browsing has improved.
I was having problems with MXplayer, Dice and BS player after the update. I uninstalled all three of them did a hard reset (vol down and power on) and then installed them again. Now they seem to be working fine. I know MX and BS just recently had updates as well. Now BS player has an offset for the audio and it's a great workaround for the BT lag!
anybody have a link to the updates? my ota failed and i cant wait to flash .30

Awful performance issues

Is anyone else having terrible, and I mean terrible performance all around with their TF300s? Mine is barely functional, much less efficient and stress free. All of my internet browsers are always force closing after freezes and crashes. I have to go through several force closes even for a google search to get done. My launchers (Nova and Apex) are always freaking out. Random page swipes, random apps getting opened, random widgets getting opened. Whenever I try typing anything, its always massively behind me, either having each key press appear individually at a slow rate, or just appearing in chunks at an equally slow rate.
It was the same on the stock ROM, and not much has changed since I switched to this Blackbean 6 ROM. I have tried overclocking, but this exacerbates the problem, causing random touches and eventually a complete crash and reboot. I am thinking my hardware my be faulty or something. Is there anyway to check this? I'm pretty sure my warrantee is out the window now since I unlocked the device thinking the stock ROM was the problem.
I got this around this past Christmas, and I am really kicking myself for not picking up a Nexus 7 instead with how this TF300 has performed for me so far. I have pretty much defaulted to my phone for 99% of uses because my TF300 is so unusable, and in fact the only reason I am posting from my TF300 now is because my phone is dead. I can't be the only one with these issues right? I am trying my hardest to like this device, but I just can't do it.

I RMA'd my tablet for ghost touches, and ASUS North America fixed under warranty even with the thing being unlocked. If you're going to go that route, you need to be pretty certain that it's a hardware issue, though. And definitely flash back to a stock ROM and check to be sure you can reproduce the issue, and include clear instructions to be sure they don't blame it on user error.
I ran BB6 for a while as my daily driver and never had much trouble. Over time, I started dropping WIFI "on wake up", so I switched back to a stock-based ROM (CleanROM Inheritance, as recommended above). No issues since.
Good luck.
+1 for Clean ROM.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. I'll be checking out that CleanRom you guys suggested, and report back here with initial performance and performance after a day or so and see if it fixes the issue. Oddly enough, the XDA app is one of the only things I can use on the device with almost no trouble.

I got mine from Amazon, but I don't think that made a difference. I think the initial warranty is one year hardware and software, and that unlocking voids the software warranty.

Is it really just the software warranty it voids? I haven't done it yet but I have read the legal mumbo-jumbo and it basically says that once you unlock it the device is no longer in the original manufacture condition and therefore not covered by the warranty. I don't think it specifies hardware vs software. There are some people that are able to get their device fixed under warranty despite being unlocked but I don't think they have to.

Would you happen to know anything about their warranty policies? I got mine off NewEgg but don't remember seeing anything about a warranty at all.

I will return my unit today, NewEgg gave me the return shipping label. I recorded a video on how to replicate the issue and even write the steps to replicate to be sure. I hope this will replace it even if it's unlocked.
EDIT:
I received an email regarding my RMA from NewEgg:
Your RMA return has been posted, which means that the contents have been verified and your return has been approved.
If your RMA was processed for a replacement, a replacement order will be created for you within the next 1-2 business days.
Actually I just want to avoid inconvenience that ghost touches will get worst cause I only got the ghost touches when from screen off state and you hold the screen then pressing power button you will have ghost touches holding the upper right corner of screen which will prevent you from unlocking the device and can easily resolve by power off then on the screen again. Well I hope I get a bnew without any ghost touches problem coz I miss playing games especially I deleted the OS of my kindle..

Random Rebooting

So I've had my TF700 for almost a year now and I've always had a random reboot issue. Each patch would change, but recently I've upgraded to 4.1.1 Android version (Kernel: 3.1.10-0001) (Build: JRO03.us_epad-10.4.4.25-20121228) and have noticed that the tablet seems sluggish and I'm getting more reboots. Normally if I just read or websurf it wasn't bad. After about a week or so of constant use it would freeze or reboot.
However after the upgrade I've started playing a few games and the device seems to crawl when switching from one app to another (even in performance mode) and the reboots come randomly.
Is there any advice? Should I take it back to bestbuy and trade it in while it is still under warranty?

If you're not into rooting/custom rom etc. which will voids your warranty, you should take it back and exchange for another device like Samsung, nexus etc.., but not another tf700.

May I ask your reasoning for this? I have the keyboard and have loved the ability to use my USBs and the SD cards for both keyboard and device.

Due to Asus's design issue (slow flash memory was installed cause I/O bottle neck), it's not running well with stock rom. If you willing to unlock your device to use custom rom/kernel which make your device fast and smooth but will voids warranty. If you hold on to stock rom, you will be very frustrating about the slowness, stuttering and freezing. With tf700, if an app freeze or or hang (due to I/O poor design issue) will cause your device to reboot. Also a high percentage of hardware defects are to be considered, you better off go with Samsung or Nexus.

I see. Is it possible to fix the rebooting by Romming? I have no problem voiding warranties, but the constant reboots are getting annoying.

The answer is yes and no. There are multiple issues related to random rebooting. Possible reasons: JB software bug, bad apps, wifi driver and hardware. You won't know until you try to fix it. That's is why I recommend not to dive in since you already see "issue" with a brand new device. The risk is on your side more than the good.

I see. Thanks for the advice.
Are there any particular tablets out there that somebody would recommend? I'm not a big fan of the Nexus, as nice as it is. I am kind of attached to my SD cards.
To be honest, there really isn't a good alternative if you want the keyboard-dock option.
Also, I'd be willing to bet that most TF700 owners don't have "random" reboots.
However, before unlocking your device, please tell us a little more about your setup - do you have tons of apps installed? What about apps like System Tuner? I'd recommend running as close to stock as possible (least apps installed) and see if the reboots still occur.
Just to clarify, you've had random reboots from day one of owning the device?

Just to add my two cents....
I bought a TF700 last summer. It was fine until the latest round of OTA upgrades from Asus in November or December; then I started getting random reboots as well, and the tablet became slow as a slug in molasses even in performance mode (which I have to set as soon as I boot in order to even get minimally-acceptable performance). I too hate to give up the keyboard and extra storage, but I have to admit this thing has been a disappointment.

Did you try a fresh install after this happened? Obviously, that kind of slowness is not even close to normal, even for a completely stock device...

Well the random reboots came after the second firmware upgrade. I kind of just figured that it had to deal with until the next firmware upgrade. I tend not to install a ton of applications on the device. I have the google apps (gmail, voice, talk, authenticator, drive, sky maps, skydrive, maps), Games (Rage of Bahamut, Transformers Legends, Tegra Zone), Books (Kindle, Adobe Reader, Comixology), Web (Youtube, Chrome, Netflix) and Kaspersky.
I have held off on the firmware upgrades until I was certain that there wouldn't be a major firmware upgrades coming down the line. The reboots weren't bad. Usually if I left the comixology, kindle, and ran mutliple games for a long time with the system would other slow down or lock up and I would just reboot. After this firmware it would just reboot if I opened a single app and shut off the screen. If it didn't reboot, when I unlocked the screen the device would just become incredibly slow.
I just got off the phone with Best Buy and they said the only thing I would be able to trade for is another TF700 with the warranty I have.

I'm going to be honest with saying I have been nervous about doing this before I talked to others to see if this was a normal event for the device.

I would definitely not call random rebooting "normal" for the TF700. Obviously, there are some folks that are having issues with random reboots, but I think that is a very small percentage. To be honest, you can do a google search for just about any device + "random reboot" and you'll get results for almost every device known to mankind. I also believe that the problem can usually be fixed by starting clean and slowly introducing your needed apps. Yes, it's a pain in the a$$ and you shouldn't need to do it, but I truly believe that most of these issue can be fixed with a little effort.

First download Asus full frimware and unzip the zip file to the root of your microsdcard. Then go into settings -> backup and reset, tab on Factory data reset this will auto boot into your stock recovery and it will wipe data. OR you can boot into stock recovery and select "wipe data". Once done boot int recovery and just wait for few second, it you auto flash the Asus full firmware.

No, I haven't yet. I keep hoping there would be another OTA from Asus that would fix the problem. I've rooted my device, but that's all. I've not even installed recovery, and the bootloader is still locked. The reboots don't come often enough that they don't really bother me anymore. What really bugs me is that the tablet was working great until that pair of OTA's at the end of last year. Up till that time I had no reboots and everything was working smoothly. Like an idiot I installed them and now aside from the reboots the response lag is terrible. I can tap on the clock to bring up the menu and it can take up to 5 seconds before the menu even appears.
I'll get around to doing a fresh install one of these days, but I've been too busy.

I wouldn't count on it, since it is not a "known issue" with the TF700, as far as ASUS is concerned...

That might suggest it's an app compatibility issue introduced by the update -- I hope so for your sake. (I've had that happen a few times, too.)

Well... I would hardly call you an idiot for installing a manufacturer-provided update. I must admit I am slowly weening myself off of the Ï have to have the brandnewest bestest EVA update" because I have spent so much time fixing whatever issues a new update brought -- I am slowly beginning to understand the motto if it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Given you're still sporting stock unlocked, that's the only route available... for now. Once you unlock and go custom, you'll be happier. :good: Hold on, my friends.

[Q] Tablet prone to lag and reboots - hardware issue?

Hey all,
My TF300T has been unusably slow and prone to crashes for quite some time now, and I was hoping to get some help. The amount that it reboots depends on which ROM I'm using, and the worst offender was the ASUS ROMs (all versions). I've got Omni installed right now, and I've also had Cyanogenmod installed, both ran incredibly slowly. It seems like no matter what I do, the tablet is still almost completely unusable. I did send it to ASUS once, hoping they would find an issue with the hardware, but they sent it back to me and said there wasn't an issue.
From what I've heard, this tablet should still be performing fairly well, so is it possible that the hardware has failed on this one? My friend has the same model with no issues to speak of. The only difference between us is that I have a memory card installed, but I don't think that should affect it.
Any ideas on how I can diagnose the issue, or get the tablet to stop lagging horribly and crashing?
Thanks!

It's a class 10. I wanted to make sure to get the best one I could at the time.

Try searching for running apps that are taking up to much resources, or try the App "Greenify"
