How to root and unroot tab2 7" p3100 (may work on other models) - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

To remove Root:
This Root Remover has been tested with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" P3100 (tested on jellybean)
REQUIREMENT: A rooted Tab 2.
•After you download this file, move it the root of your external SD card( /mnt/extSdCard ). This is the micro sdcard you insert in tablet slot. Your /mnt/sdcard folder is internal memory (not recognized in CWM recovery).
•Reboot into CWM (recovery) using Quick Boot app or
•Power OFF your tablet, disconnect from computer and restart in recovery (CWM) by pushing and holding POWER & Volume DOWN/LEFT buttons at same time. When Samsung Tab 2 logo appears, you can release power button but continue holding volume button for a few more seconds. Note: If you've done this on other Samsung devices, you will notice that it takes longer before blue CWM v5.5.0.4 text appears ... just be patient.
•Once you are in recovery, use volume button (UP/DOWN/LEFT OR RIGHT) to move around and POWER button to select an option.
Select install zip from sdcard. Choose Root_Remover file you already copied to root of sdcard.
When unrooting is finished, choose reboot system now from CWM menu.
NOTE-By downloading and using this file you understand and agree that you bear all responsibility for the use and anything it may do to your tablet.
DOWNLOAD-
Root_Remover.zip (h--p://www.mediafire.com/?ty54o6lah25w41d)
Replace (--) with tt.
For Root (tested on jellybean):
Use chainfire root its d best i have it.
U can google it or find it on xda search (instructions are provided there).
Dont use the above method to remove the chainfire root as it can be easily removed from its modified superuser application but it works as any other root and is superb!
Enjoy,
Kunal
Dont forget to hit the thanks button!!

Yeah brother sure,
It means that do not use the unrooting method which i have given you above to remove the chainfire autoroot (developed by chainfire-a.k.a {cf autoroot}). If you have a chainfire autoroot open its superuser application and there u will see an option of removing the root completely. Try it i personally recommend cf autoroot. Only the cf autoroot has the option to remove the root itself coz its superuser app is modified.
Gud luck

Hi Kunal
Hi Kunal.......
I had unrooted my Tab 2 P3100 (v4.1.1 - India) yesterday. I had also used triangle away as u adviced to set counter to zero. After unroot I wipe data/factory reset the Tab. After that then i had done factory reset from settings/backup and restore option in Tab.
But when I tried to update my tab using OTA by going under Software Update option in Settings it displays following message:
YOUR DEVICE HAS BEEN MODIFIED. SOFTWARE UPDATES ARE NOT AVAILABLE.
Then I checked for Device status it shows Device Status Custom. How to get rid of all this.
Plz help.

Hey amit,
U dnt have to use triangle away after unrooting its only for after u root ur tab. Btw dnt update to 4.1.2 it just suckss!! It only adds smart stay to ur tab which is NOT working due to a bug in this update i also rolled back to 4.1.1 after i did this useless update. And if u want to update then go to recovery menu (power off then power button + volume up) and from there do factory reset and wipe all cache and data dalvik cache also (it will delete evrythin on your tab)-DO THIS ONLY AFTER UNROOT.
And if the above one does not work then format, wipe cache and dalvik also from recovery menu and then use ota update.
If ota doesnt work then use kies-only if ur tab is unrooted.
Ps sorry for late reply

After that I tried to install super su app 1.25 by placing it in root of external sd card and in download mode. But it says verification failed. Bro, please take note, cwr temporary only use for flashing, don't ever use to wipe. It will brick your device, since i already brick my tab, and only can be save until u change the new main board. So please be careful.

Yup...With stock recovery all good, but with cwr temporary it brick my tab 3month ago, just to share because i've already change my main board 3month ago. So be careful especially for ics4.0.4. Because some people also bricks after wipe in stock recovery, Thks.
For save rooting, i suggest using supersu 0.94/0.95 from chainfire it can flash from stock recovery. And flash aorth recovery (6.0.1.0.img) using mobile odin. So we can avoid using that cwr.
how to use mobile odin and flash the recovery? U can check to aorth thread and ask senior members for any help.

A small rooting dilema

Hello everyone, I'm completely new to androids and I recently rooted my phone with CF's Auto Root.
I've been scouring the forum for information on how to resolve my problem but none that really help me with my specific problem
I want to re root with clockwork but can't find anything on it
Can someone help me out here? Sorry for sounding really dumb, I just switched over from apple this stuff is a completely different world to me
Completly factory reset your phone n try rooting again . If it fails, you need to root using the same software as you did earlier

So with my original method I've rerooted my phone. How do I install clockwork mod on a rooted phone if it wasn't installed in the rooting process?
Take a look at the "goo manager " app and TWRP instead of CWM.
But CWM also has an easy install app if your phone is supported. Just see if it is or not and go from there either way.

Thanks for answering Pennycake.
I'm on Rogers Carrier OEM firmware right now and I'd like to flash the international firmware as to rid bloatware to my Note 2.
Which app would you recommend me to backup my rom with?
I've successfully rerooted, I found the problem with my phone. After it had been unrooted it needed to be rebooted in order for some effects to take change. So through the original method of CF-Auto Root, I rerooted my phone. I've installed the standalone ClockWorkMod app but it doesn't seem to make back ups properly. Through the app I hit back up and it shows the time stamp I hit 'ok' and my phone shuts off and starts up in recovery mode only not in ClockWorkMod but Android system recovery <e3> or something along those lines with only options to: reboot, install updates from adb, wipe data, etc.
What am I doing wrong?
Try installing the recovert img using clockworkmod before backups, because its not an app error, it is a user error. Using chainfires root method means no cwm. Using odin or lemme guess, you have a gs3, unified tool kit you get cwm.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
What recovery do you have right now? If it's twrp (team win) do that go with clockwork mod. Twrp (goo manager) is by far (in my opinion) the best and user friendly. But it's your call. And you don't have to un root and re root to do it. You just have to flash the new recovery via bootloader and it will work. For rom choices I personally like jedi xpx and jellybam. With jedi xpx you can overclock the sh*t out of your note 2 to 1920 and it's still stable.
I've used many recoveries and twrp is my choice hands down. And yiu make back ups easier. So dont unroot again and re root. Just download the latest twrp and flash through bootloader. but to each their own

I'm on the Galaxy Note 2 i317m in Canada. Clockworkmod isn't letting me back up, everytime I get the box with the timestamp to create a back up I hit 'ok', my phone reboots into recovery mode and its the stock recovery, so no option to restore. Also when my phone's model isn't listed in the clockworkmod flashing menu within the app. Is my phone not supported? The N7100 is the one listed when it asks you do confirm a phone model.

Maybe it's an update error and you're stucked at recovery . Try flashing a new firmware through odin or root it by using hemidall suite with the help of odin and after rooting install CWM and then flash a custom rom

Need help with simmilar problem
Hello guys. I have similar problem. tab2 is literally looping between start screen that is asking for update and recovery. In recovery I tried from sd card to flash new rom or cwm but he is giving the same message: signature verification failed and he just restart and first screen is just asking for update and code. I instaled all drivers for samsung and tried on another comp but neider of them recognise tab so I don`t know if there is any help since I can not use odin and from sd he is just looping without solution. Please I am desperate. Sorry for English. Not my native language. Ido have some knowledge of rooting and working with odin but not with adb and now I am reading about it but also I see that even for that he needs drivers and recognition from pc. Please is there any option? Apreciate any help. Thanks

I had rooted galaxy fit with 2.3.6. Today i did factory reset on my phone including wiping memory card(as i had increased my internal memory using external sd). Did u use cwm recovery to format the samsung stock rom??:what: If yes... then it's O.K. No need to worry. Just flash any custom rom (cyanogenmod 7 recommended for flashing the very 1st time over samsung stock rom).
Note: Do format /system b4 flashing.
I do not have much idea about this. Would u please explain the procedure.
Sent from my Micromax A116 using xda app-developers app
Enter recovery mode by pressing & holding Home+Power buttons together when the phone is switched off.
Since ur phone isn't turning on & u mentioed that restore option is not working...I guessed that u might have cwm recovery...coz restore option belongs to cwm recovery... CWM recovery is used for custom roms...while the Android OS installed on the phone at the time of purchase has it own different recovery (known as stock recovery). Stock recovery has much less options than cwm recovery.
BTW how did u format ur phone...?? from settings or via recovery??:sly:
I did factory reset from setting. After that it restarted and opened the boot menu from wher i selected the wipe option

During formatting via settings, the phone automatically reboots after succesful format. & boots directly to home screen (not ny boot menu).
Now can i get my phonr back in initial stage by flashing any rom or i will have to go to service centre.

You can get your phone back to initial stage by flashing a stock rom from http://www.sammobile.com/. There you will find a stock rom for your phone.

Welcome bro...

Please help !! Please...........................

Hi everyone,
I have a Samsung tab 2 p3100 with me. I used to flash a lot on my tab and try different Roms on it. But lately i faced this very uncommon problem when i flashed a purebean hdv2 rom on my tab. After using it for a few days i tried to flash a new one. So I made a titanium backup of my apps at night and in the morning my tab started rebooting as soon as i change any setting. It's like it's stuck on the same data, apps and setting as it was at night. Tab would restart in 10 seconds of usage. And even if i try to change any setting or remove an app in those 10 sec, everything comes back to the same condition after a reboot. I can't format data from the recovery. There's no failure or error. CWM shows the data is erased but the rom has no effect. CWM flashes everything without displaying any error but it does not change anything in the rom. I can't even change the recovery. Even i flashed the original stock rom via odin and the flashing too aroung 2 hrs to finish, but still the custom rom was there with all the apps and everything. Now i have really no clue what to do about it. I cant use it in the present condition and can't even change anything on it..
Please help me Tab 2 community. PLEASE............ :crying::crying::crying::crying:
And When I turn it on repeatedly this message is shown :unfortunately this aps need to be closed , and so on
Are you able to install TWRP? I believe it has an actual format option rather than just wiping the storage. It's possible that might do something...

I m facing the same problem with my GT2 (p3100) but in my case...i cant even complete the stock firmware flashing process completely(gives an error at around 60%).I have cwm 6.0.2.7 and as said by Akelis_2,the custom recovery too cannot b updated or changed! So, I cant even install TWRP.
Got any solution for this..?
I can't install TWRP
Can you send us a screenshot?
Yes wait plz

Have you formatted system partition? Go to recovery and then to mounts and storage > format system and flash some other rom.

Yes. But I Can't format data from the recovery.
You mean that you can't access recovery? If no then try flashing some other recovery like philzs touch and try formatting system from it

Maybe you need to PM the developer of the ROM to give you a solution.
Are you sure you flashed the correct rom?
Can you give me link to it?
Don't worry I will help you till you fix it ?
