[Q] Multiple problems when flashing HTC Sensation with ARHD ROM - HTC Sensation

I decided to join the xda-developers community after I spent literally 9+ hours trying to get my phone to work and looking for the answers and couldn't find any for my situation. I am hoping an experienced user can give me some much needed answers!
The reason I am trying to flash the ROM in the first place is because I recently replaced the LCD/Digitizer from another HTC Sensation but for some reason I am not able to connect to T-Mobile network. I thought maybe it was the antennas and I had knocked something loose when I was repairing it when the WiFi wasn't working either, but when I took it to my parents house and used their WiFi it started working. So I decided to flash the the Android Revolution HD 7.2 ROM and followed the guide from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300. I followed the instructions and was able to do everything but the permanent root but I realized I could just flash the ARHD ROM and have it be rooted that way. I flashed the ROM and when it was done it got stuck at the beats audio screen. Then I realized I hadn't flashed the 3.33 firmware first and thought that was the problem so I went back and wiped partitions and data and flashed it to that and then flashed ARHD but it still got stuck at the beats audio logo. So I went and restored it to the backup I made on clockworkmod recovery but then it would just reboot to HTC logo constantly so I flashed to 3.33 again and it still does that same thing. I've flashed ARHD and 3.33 firmware multiple times and it either gets stuck on the beats audio logo or keeps rebooting from HTC. So now it's on 3.33 firmware and I'm leaving it there until someone can help me.
When I did the S-Off, in the beginning it said "revolutionary" at the top. When I flashed the ROM it said *LOCKED*. Now it says -Firmware-3.33-.
This is what it looks like on my HBOOT.
-Firmware-3.33-
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.27.1100
RADIO-11.24A.350431_M
OpenADSP-v05.6.0.2226.00.0418
eMMC-boot
What do I do next? I know for a fact that if I flash the ARHD ROM again it will get stuck on the beats audio logo. I can't even start the phone on the 3.33 firmware because it restarts over and over to HTC logo screen. Also does anyone think flashing to this new ROM will get my phone to connect to the network again?
PLEASE HELP!!

I only needed to flash to 3.33 was because it was for Android Revolution HD. I'm not sure if you need to do that for the elegancia mod.

How did you update the firmware? Did you use the PG58IMG.zip method and if so have you removed it from your SD card afterwards? I know ARHD is best used with 4ext recovery too but i'm not sure it's a necessity. Check out this thread. There maybe some info on it.

try to flash the 3.33fw from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
before flashing check md5 sums(it is important)
and follow the installation steps carefully
after that flash the rom
if fails again then flash the boot.img of the rom manually
if don't know how see extra 1 step from here

I used the zip method and I did remove it afterwards. I am using the clockworkmod recovery instead of the 4ext.

Sorry for being a noob but how do I check md5 sums? What do I compare the sums too? And also, why is it important to check?

put the firmware zip in the root of the sdcard
use any file manager and navigate to that zip
press and hold to the zip until it pops up a menu
go to proprerties
then you will see calculate md5 checksum or something like that
then check if it is the same with the one from the firmware thread
it is important because if you mess up with fw probably you will damage your device

Hi,
That is odd.
You say you have flashed ARHD ROM.
That should install 4 EXT recovery.
So,that means the flash did not work.
Have you actually had a ROM working on your phone since you changed the digitizer?
Also,there is a md5 checksum checker in 4 EXT.
Have a look around the CWM recovery,to see if there is one there.

How do I check md5 sums from recovery?

Hi,
With your s-off status and current 3.33 firmware, there is no reason why it should not work.
Maybe ,the phone was not re-assembled properly?
Or did it work before the 3.33 firmware installation?

Yeah it was working before I did the firmware installation but the only thing was that it was not connecting to the network. What do I do??

Hi,
OK.
Let's go about this a different way.
Look HERE
2. Flashing a recovery
1.Flash 4 EXT recovery.
2.Go into 4 EXT recovery/wipe/ and format all partitions except sd card.
3.Flash ARHD ROM again.
The firmware is not preventing the installation of the software.
But using a different recovery, and wiping properly ,may get the ball rolling again.
Once you get the ROM up and running, you can look at the radio/ril combination.

try to change recovery
use 4ext
then from recovery format all partitions except sdcard
flash the rom
see how it goes

I think i bricked my sensation after flashing a firmware

Allright i was getting ready to try a new ICS ROM on my sensation and i downloaded and placed PG58IMG.zip on my sdcard and rebooted my phone, everything started ok everything was going to plan and then the phone screen went blank and then i got the following message on my phones screen:

I have no SuperCID as i didnt know that i had to. Is there ANY possible way to get my phone working again, maybe a firmware package like PG58IMG that will revert my phone to a previous firmware so it will work...please i know im stupid i just want my phone working again
just take your sd card out and put it in one of those little flash drives that you can put in a laptop and delete the firmware zip file. then youll be able to get to hboot and revovery

Here's a trick: You can try flashing this, If it still dosen't work, revert to the 1.17 RUU given by Step 5 of this guide
I tried both 3.12 and 3.24 firmware from this thread and get boot loops: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618
3.12 gets past HTC splash screen and shows Beats Audio before rebooting. 3.24 reboots at the HTC splash screen. Which firmware should I try for Sensation 4G on US T-Mobile? I have SuperCID so maybe the firmware version shouldn't matter as much, just not sure what to do at this point.

After you install the firmware. Take your battery out, take your memory card out. Put your battery back in and power your phone into recovery. Once your in recovery put your memory card back in. Plug your phone into your computer and delete the firmware that's on your root of your memory card. And now you can flash a rom in recovery

Sorry, forgot to mention that each time I flashed firmware I powered off, removed the sdcard and deleted the firmware .zip by plugging the sdcard into my PC. Then inserted sdcard and powered up to recovery to do a superwipe then flash a ROM.
Do you have to go into recovery one time w/o the sdcard loaded, or is the process I described sufficient?

Oops, just saw the other post saying it was OK to delete .zip file via PC. Guess I should maybe try different ROM or restore my nandroid backup and see what happens?
no if you flashed 3.24 firmware you need to flash 4.4.0 Insertcoin or 6.1.0 ARHD
those are only roms support new firmware, and i think RCmix now supports it too

I re-flashed the 3.12 since it at least was going further in the boot process. Then just now I did a superwipe and restored my nandroid backup of ARHD 3.6.7, which now reboots at HTC splash screen.

No apparent issues when I took firmware back to 3.12, all the items listed OK as they installed. MD5 checked out fine on all my ROMs I've tried, including ARHD 3.6.13 which I just now tried. Still rebooting at Beats screen. Here's what my bootloader screen says at this point:

Holy Sweet Jebus!! I finally got ARHD 6.1.0 to boot! WOOT!
I did another superwipe the reflashed it, same copy I've been using the whole time. It prompted to verify phone was US T-Mobile and asked if I wanted the Bravia Engine (same as before) and I said Yes to both.
Now the fun part, getting apps data restored. I did a full app/data backup using Titanium prior to diving into this process. I've seen posts saying not to restore any default apps because they're the Gingerbread version, not ICS. Anyone know if that counts for the data as well? Also I saw a post saying to open Superuser one time before restoring apps that need SU.
Muchas Gracias to All that have replied and helped out!
I didn't restore system apps, user apps with data and everything went fine, and i think if you do system data it would cause some issues

So far only hiccup I've run into restoring app data is for GoSMSPro. TiBkup saved my app settings but not actual txt msgs. I tried restoring from within GoSMSPro and my 2 options were "smsbackup.dat" or a manual .xml backup I ran ages ago. I chose the .dat file and the txts it brought back stop around Oct 10 of last year.

Okay, i wanted to download the ELEGANCIA ICS ROM but before i could i had to download a FIRMWARE PACKAGE(or just firmware). So i downloaded the Firmware from 3.32 RUU which is for the ELEGANCIA ROM...By the way, I DID THIS BEFORE I INSTALLED the ELEGANCIA ROM(i hadn't downloaded it yet..elegancia rom) I followed the instructions how to flash it. It said it would tell you what to do next..so i did it. Went into Recovery and flashed through sd and installed the ZIP file and when it asked if i wanted to udate it i pressed Yes...and then this is what HAPPENs NEXT.
It ask if i want to update and I do and then it says:
Parsing...[ SD ZIP]
[1] BOOTLOADER - Ok
Update Complete...
Press POWER to reboot.
So i press power and all it does is: BOOTS up and then TURNS OFF
It continues to do that...I believe it's called BOOT LOOPING.?
I pull out the battery and press VOL. Down plus POWER at the same tiime and it takes me back to the WHITE SCREEN and I see FASTBOOT, RECOVERY, FACTORY RESET, SIMLOCK and IMAGE CRC but does NOT let me choose. It automatically goes to HBOOT.
I have to pull battery or it will continue to BOOT itself on and off again. Even with the phone off, I connect it to my usb connection on my laptop and my device does not show on my laptop. Both the usb connection and usb cord are working properly.
That is my BIG PAIN in MY ASS right now!!
Can someone please help me.?
You will have to make your phone Super-CID or download the correct firmware package that fit your CID.
Super-CID makes you able to flash any firmware package etc.

You stated that your ROM was GB and that's not supported on the 3.32 F/W.
Download your ICS ROM and mike's SuperWipe script from the ARHD thread.
Copy them to the SDcard via the PC and a USB <-> microSD adapter.
Delete the PG58IMG.zip file on the SDcard.
Boot the phone into Bootloader, get into Recovery, SuperWipe and flash the ROM.

Don't bother restoring to stock, waste of effort.
Read my previous post.
1. Anyway, did the ICS F/W update work ?
2. Is the PG58IMG.zip file still on the SDcard ? If so rename /delete it.
3. Get your chosen ICS ROM and mike's SuperWipe script onto the SDcard.
4. Go into recovery and run the Superwipe script then flash the ROM.
Steps 2 & 3 you'll need to use a PC to do these with a USB <-> microSD adapter.
I am assuming that there wasn't a typo in your original post in that you actually have HBOOT 1.27.0000, this is ICS ONLY firmware and GB won't work on it.
BTW what recovery have you got ? CWM or 4EXT ?

+1 10 char. I also do not suggest to flash an RUU.

You also have a locked version (1.27.0000) of the HBOOT, I suggest at some stage installing an unlocked version (1.27.1100) from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767

I just tried it and the phone is ON NOW BUT it is just on the White screen with the Green HTC letters. It has been on for 15 minutes already...By the way, I DO NOT have a microSD adapter. I did it by getting into CWM and going to Recovery and going into mounts and then i mounted it and was able to install it like that. Is that the reason why it is still on the White HTC screen? Do I pull the Battery?
Another thing I still haven't flashed my ICS Rom because when i DID Mike's SuperWipe it did it's thing and just automattically went to the White HTC screen.
No, there is NO TYPO, that is exactly what it says. I believe i still have CWM and I remember tthat I had 4ext to.

So precisely what have you got on the SDcard at the moment ?
PG58IMG.zip ?
SuperWipe.zip (or what ever the name is) ?
ICS ROM "zip" file ?
Edit: If you used the superwipe script you have no OS on the phone and will NEED to flash an ICS ROM through recovery. It shouldn't have gone to the white HTC screen just returned to CWM. If you don't have an ICS ROM on the phone's SDcard you can try adb pushing it or possibly use another device that has microUSB capability.

What I have now is Superwipe.zip and ICS ROM.zip. I deleted the PG58IMG that I had on the SD Card before I did the SUPERWIPE.
I pulled out the battery and got into recovery and installed from sdcard and I went to install ICS ROM and it started but then it said ABORTED. Tried again and said the same thing.
Should I try another ICS ROM?
What about not having the PG58IMG?

any help is majorly appreciated

Have you updated to newest firmware 3.33? Some Roms require it most run 3.32 and 3.33 however I've noticed some asking for 3.33.perhaps this could be a issue? Does the Rom suggest on the developers site 3.33?
Just a thought? Your s off , you have 4ext recovery, your wiping cash and dalvik, wipe data factory reset, you have done all that, perhaps its the firmware? Also did you check the md5 sums before installing to make sure they match developers? If they don't match it could be a corrupted download. If they are matching I'd read over the specs for that particular Rom and see if 3.33 is a requirement. Best wishes.

as the rom is just flashed ..you need to wait until its properly booted ..then reboot to recovery again and flash the kernel (always flash mods/kernels is not advisable ...during first flash of ROM)
now ..do a complete wipe again (4EXT -> wipe|format -> format all partitions except sdcard) then flash the rom ..boot it up ..then go back to recovery and then flash the kernel

Please Help!

Ok,
So I've used roms on my hd2 and one x, so I thought this would be simple on a friends sensation, oh how wrong was I.
I have unlocked the sensation via htcdev, installed clockworkmod and installed pyramids jellybean rom.
Now I have all sorts of issues, the rom boots then drops somehow straight to clockworkmod. I can't mount the sd card within clockworkmod to try a different rom and the phone is now useless, doh.
How can I fix this please guys?
Did you update the firmware? Are you s off or s on? If your s on you must flash boot image. Download 4 ext recovery, enable smart flash in 4ext. This way you can flash boot image. Please read flashing roms with s on. Also for that rom the firmware must also be upgraded. Let me link you to the guide to flashing roms with s on. This will help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
Someone more knowledgeable than myself can give you step by step instructions to get you out of this pinch. But in the mean time read the link I posted about flashing with s on. It will help in the future. Best wishes not to worry I'm sure you can fix this.

HTC Dev doesn't really unlock it. It only partially unlocks it.
It doesn't s-off the device so you don't have access to the system partition, meaning you can't properly install a custom ROM without a few extra steps. And I don't think you can do it at all with clockworkmod. You need 4EXT Recovery which can flash a ROM with s-on. There's a few extra steps to doing it but it works.
You also have to make sure you have the correct firmware. So if the device was previously on a Gingerbread ROM and you didn't upgrade firmware, it won't work.
Now, the part where it boots then drops back into recovery is weird.
Tell us exactly what steps you did so we can better determine where something went flukely.
I'm CERTAIN it's fixable though.

Will 4EXT allow me to mount the sd card?
Yes it should
Also some roms require 4ext it's a super easy touch recovery to use. You can download from here or the playstore.

Yeah I'm certain it's fixable too , just not sure how, lol. I'll give 4EXT a shot. I have no idea how or why it drops straight to clockworkmod either, I would expect it to reboot to clockworkmod if anything, but it just kind of switches from the rom straight to it, very odd.
If you could point me to a firmware I might need I would be very grateful.
It is universal 3.33 let me get link also 3.32 will work on most ics roms but 3.33 is the newest I'm running jelly bean and use 3.33

If you are s-off you shouldn't have to flash boot.img separately. It will do all that with the ROM flash.
Maybe that's what's screwy. Though a borked up ROM still shouldn't affect SD card mounting in recovery...that is really weird. Do you have a card reader that you can use to check the card out in your computer? I'm wondering if somehow you screwed up the card when flashing the ROM. Maybe it wont' mount because the card isn't formatted properly anymore. Stuff like that has happened before.

What does your bootloader say?
hboot etc.
Yes if your s off you simply flash from recovery without boot img. But do update your firmware.

As far as I was aware S-ON just prevented the boot.img from being written via recovery, which can be done with adb. So the only reasons for these issues must be firmware version right?

Hi,
It is a pity you went to HTC to unlock your phone.
I wonder if you can still s-off using revolutionary.
You are going to need to run a RUU,and hopefully get a working phone again.
Try and find a RUU HERE that matches your area and carrier.

Yup. If you have the 1.18 hboot you have Gingerbread firmware, which won't support Jellybean or ICS.
The good news is that you can flash a gingerbread rom and get the phone back to a working state right away if you need to get the phone back to the owner.
The RUU to restore is pretty simple. Then Revolutionary s-off proceedure is also extremely painless.
Reverting back to stock and starting over to s-off shouldn't take more than 15 minutes if you do it right. Then flashing the ICS/GB firmware (3.32 or 3.33) takes 3 minutes. Then the new rom takes 3 more minutes.
Just make sure you RUU to gingerbread and not to ICS. The ICS Hboots are harder to s-off. It's worth adding the extra step to flash the ICS/JB firmware later.
This is driving me nuts, tried 2 ruu's, both failed, if it was my phone it would be out the window!

Hi,
Try re-downloading the ROM.
Check the md5 checksum when the ROM is on your sd card.
Apply smartflash, and install the ROM straight away.

you have to be S-OFF,have renamed the zip as PG58IMG.zip if it is not and it can be flashed only from bootloader
once you will boot into bootloader it will recognize it and just follow the onscreen instructions
about md5: from any file manager tap and hold the zip it will show you a menu.go to properties and in there you will be able to check md5
at least this the way how i am doing it in es file explorer
i dont have the s-off im s-on & i just did that & its still taking long & about the PG58IMG.zip Whats that ?

Hi,
If you are s-on , you cannot update your firmware or radio.(PG58IMG.zips)
Do you have 4 EXT?
Then, you can check md5 in recovery, before flashing .(ROMS,kernels, etc)
Check out this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1864053
Hopefully has the information you need, if you aren't S-OFF I would recommend going through the steps to achieve that. I know there are plenty of people that are able to flash custom ROMs and firmware despite being S-ON, but IMO you definitely save a lot of headaches just by sucking it up and S-OFFing your Sensation.
I started out as a complete and total Android noob but through some (careful) experimentation and lots of reading here on XDA I'm not a competent advanced user. You could be too!
