I've seen a couple of requests about this, but no definitive solution. Is there a way to mod the stock 4.1.1 Rosie apk to disable the carousel effect and reenable the scrolling wallpaper? Would anyone be willing to do this or point me in the right direction so that I could attempt to do it myself?

Probably, but AFAIK no one has done it. Custom launchers still allow scrolling wallpaper.

I'd be all for using nova or something, but I actually use the sense widgets. Might come down to choosing one or the other.

Yeah, this is what I was talking about.
I saw that, like you said, Viper supports scrolling wallpaper AND disabling unlimited scrolling, I'd rather stick with more of a stock rom though.
Tried pulling the Rosie.apk out of the latest Viper zip but it's (for obvious reasons) not compatible with other roms.

I use Flikie HD Wallpapers, it's a very nice program for HD backgrounds and almost all background have the function to scroll to the left or right.
Now i know this is not possible in Sense 3.0 because the sliding never stops. So every background with that slide function don't know when to stop the picture so it just shows the middle.
Is it possible to change this, with example the Fre3vo temp-root ? Or do we need to wait at a ROM builder or Fre3dom ?

Nope, you can't do that. Only possible with another launcher.
The Sensation has an HTC Live Wallpaper called "Streak" that has somekind of infinite movement (rotation) when going from screen to screen. I geuss someone should find a way to make something similar!
Try a different launcher. I am using GoLauncher Ex and it works quite well. I think it looks better than the Sense launcher as well.

Will the phone become slower when you use GoLauncher, i want to use it only i think it is a bit double, the heavy Sense 3.0 and the GoLauncher. I am definitily waiting for the perm root so that our great cookers can make a stripped ROM without Sense 3.0 I think were almost there!

Nope, the phone is more responsive when using another launcher. Try it

Definitely try any other launcher. You won't be disappointed at all. I personally flip around between Launcher PRO Plus, Go Launcher, and Launcher7.
For the time being at least, anything other than Sense that you use will allow your Sen4G to pep up quite a bit. But who knows what'll happen when we get a new FOTA to fix some of our standing issues.

Well Sense is not available while you are using a different launcher. It's not really dead.

I think we misunderstood (maybe just me?) your original statement that any other launcher "kills sense" in that, at least for me, I thought you meant any other launcher would bring Sense to its knees......meaning Sense was speedier than all the other launchers.
Turns out you were saying what we were albeit from a completely different direction.
Or maybe I'm misunderstanding yet again.....it has in fact been a long day for me.

It's already fully functional HTC got rid of it in sense 4 it doesnt show up on the one series either. Only thing is the unlock carousel which you already know about

We need a working Sense 4 M10 files decoder to do this
The main problem here would be that the first and the last screens are disjoint.
(A normal linked list instead of a circular linked list, if it makes any sense to you )
Also, the added ability to delete a few panels means that the carousel effect really won't make sense if the user has lesser number of screens (panels). It actually won't even be possible for less than 4 screens (panels) and even with 4 screens (panels) it's more of a cuboid spin than carousel.
Just my thoughts about it.

sense changed the drivers in 3.6 and up. we got it sort of working but it has lag or just dont work at all. It started back with the EVO 3D sense 3.0 update last winter.

if u flash viper rom, theres an option to enable the carousel animation when the phone is unlocked in the tweaks app.

Define "it". He wasn't referring to the CRT off animation that OP was looking for. If you are looking for CRT off, it can't be enabled in Sense and is only partially working in AOSP. I'm still not sure what this "carousel" animation is though - are you guys talking about the 3D effect when you switch between home screen pages?

I have searched around without success on changing the grid size for the HTC Sense UI. Is this possible to add as a mod, or is there a way already that someone knows how to do this? I like Sense, so I don't want to use a launcher (i.e. Apex, Nova, etc.), just want to change the grid size to 5 rows x 4 columns. Thanks for any help.

Sadly, but no.. there's major milestones on moving lockrings and lockscreen clock on sense, so I'd imagine its not far fetched

Ok, thanks. I will just stick with 4x4 for now then.
I changed it in viper 3.0.0 JB Rom by flashing the 4x5 Rosie mod for viper ICS roms. It isn't designed for JB but it did work and I was running stable.

Yeah, I know the custom ROMs have the capability of modifying the grid size (I had CM10 and could do it), I was just hoping there was a way to do with on JB with Sense 4+.

This is the mod someone else referenced. It worked for me to change it to 4x5 on RebelROM AOSP-style Sense. The 4x4 widgets won't be centered though.

I gave it a try but it didn't seem to work with my JB ROM using Sense 4+. Thanks though. I will keep a look out for an update.
I know...the 4x4 rid size on the homescreen is kinda ridiculous considering the phones resolution/screen size.

That is the same problem I was having. Kept saying HTC Sense has stopped working. And I agree that Sense should have this as an option to change, because the 4x4 grid just looks too spaced out.
I agree. I wonder how hard it would be to modify the ICS 4x5 mod to work with JB. I'll poke at it later, but don't hold your breath for anything. I don't really know what I'm doing, and if it was easy it would be in all the custom JB Sense+ ROMs already.

At least on ICS the mod was rather straightforward. You had to decompile Rosie.apk edit a few m10 and settings files then recompile the apk. Search through my post history, I posted a mod and a link to the tut a while back but then Turge incorporated it into Viper so I stopped working on it.

I'm thinking about switching back to a Sense ROM for the battery life and camera, but I'll miss a few things from AOSP that I've gotten accustomed to.
Is it possible to have the 4.2 Lockscreen on a Sense ROM? I know the AOSP 4.1 lockscreen is available on some of them. Having DashClock notifications on the lockscreen makes life so much easier.
It's not possible to have the AOSP notification shade on a Sense ROM, is it?
Is there a way to get the AOSP Browser on a Sense ROM? It's the fastest and cleanest browser I've used on Android so far. I've tried pulling the APK from an AOSP ROM and pushing it to /system/, but that just causes the browser to FC when I try using it.
Can I add the CRT screen animation to a Sense ROM, or has HTC made that impossible?

I had the same issue. I tried using WidgetLocker to install it, but it did not work. Only reason I haven't gone back to ViperXL...that and the quick reply to text from notification shade. both features make life way too easy to give up
Bpear has a damn close replica of aosp sense. REBELROM. Its fast and stable too.
Plus I'm trying my damnest to theme the settings page to mimic aosp. I feel like I'm getting close! :cross fingers:
