[Q] A new problem someone offer some help please - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I finally found the rom I like, Avatar, flashed that and everything works except for the AT&T voicemail app. It keeps telling me there is no voicemail number on the sim card. I used another app and copied the voicemail number to the card but it still can't find the number. I can call my voicemail on the phone and get to the voicemail but the voice mail won't set up. At first the dialer told me to use the settings in menu to set the voicemail up, but I can't find the menu to do that. Anyone got any help please. Need voicemail.

I had the same problem with cm10.1. Tried everything I could think of even, called att = no help there. So I just went back to Google voice. I like it better anyway cause I can check voicemail on my PC browser. :/

Ok, I will give that a try, I called AT&T and they gave me the voice mail number. I put it in contacts and called that works, but the app I am using won't find the number and set up. For some reason with this Avatar Rom there is no voicemail number associated with it. Other roms I have had no problem with this app setting up voicemail. One other Rom I played with had the same problem but there was a menu on the dialer with settings to insert a number for voicemail, but this is missing on this one.

Is this the visual voicemail app? If so, you might try removing and reinstalling. Make sure wifi is off when you try to set it up. Mine won't setup after a rom flash unless I turn off wifi and let it connect to data.

I switched to CM 10.1 I think it was and it set up pretty good. Thats basically the same rom for looks that I can see. I have no idea why my voicemail number isn't on the sim card and I can't get it over there .

Still not working here on cm10.1. The wheel keeps spinning after I enter the password.

Doesn't work with 4.2 yet.

Just checked the play store and AT&T updated the Visual Voicemail app, works with 4.2.2 now. Installed and working here!!

Boo yah! Not only that but it works on WiFi. And if you are like me, you turn your mobile data off. Please you get it transcribed and emailed. AT&T charges and extra four bucks

Lost Voicemail for MT4GS

I'm in such a pickle. I seem to have lost my voicemail all together on the Virtuous Unity Rom for the MT4GS. Please somebody help me out. I can't retrieve or leave voicemails on this phone anymore and I don't know why, I also lost the ability to record and set a personal greeting on my voicemail system.... Does anybody know why this might be?

by default, on tmo, if you call yourself from your phone, it will let you log in to your voicemail. i had that issue when i went to cm7 on my 3gslide
I tried calling my phone from a different phone to leave a voicemail. I get the automated reordering saying that I'm unavailable. Then I try leaving a message and nothing. I literally lost my voicemail service..... Help please

Have you tried calling Tmobile? Maybe they can reset your voicemail acct. on their end?
Otherwise maybe make a nandroid and flash a different ROM, and see if it works there?
Have you been using the regular Tmo voicemail service, and have you checked your voicemail settings? A quick solution could also be to install Google Voice or Youmail, and let that set up and handle your voicemail for now. One time I set up Google Voice and then wanted to go back to my carrier's voicemail, and I was in kind of a gray area until I went to G Voice on my computer and deleted my phone number there.
Anyway, just throwing out some ideas, I hope it helps you some.
Call your number, hit star, password prompt. If you don't remember psw, restore a nandroid, call from your phone, change psw, profit. Make a nandroid b4 u restore one. Tmobile resets it.

[Q] Google Voice for VM on US TMO 1S

So I got my wife a new HTC One S to replace her HD2 which she had cracked the screen (Worked fine, but good excuse to get a look at a new phone). Everything set up fine, and is working well, but I can't seem to set up Google Voice for VM. Visual VM works (from TMO) but I use and love Google voice on my phone, as it sends you texts with the transcribed message.
If anyone can shed some light on this, every time I change it from my carrier to Google voice on the settings menu (Settings | Calls I think) it gives me an error and stays set to my carrier. Anyone have any ideas.
I have not rooted this phone yet, and as it is the wife's wasn't planning on it, but would like to get Google voice working for voicemail if at all possible. \
Any thoughts/ideas?? I am hoping someone here may know a work around or fix for this...
I also have the same problem. Normally I'd just install a new ROM without the bloatware, but it doesn't appear any are all that stable yet. Will rooting the phone allow you to uninstall stuff like TMobile's apps without having to put on a new ROM?
Anyway, I'm also curious about using Google's Voice.
It is the only issue I have left. I have been doing some research, calling t-mobile and turning off their VM may fix it, but I haven't had to do that on any other phone, so it is my last resort. Hoping someone else here has solved this, or done what I suggested, and validated it as a fix. If all else fails, by the end of the weekend, I will try that approach. Just seems odd that it is locked.
I have also tried *004*[google number here]# with an mmi code error, and **004*[google number here]# which did register, but then reverted just as quickly, when I went to settings|calls to review [I saw it show Google voicemail, only to change instantly back to My carrier]
My GV is still active on my phone from my Sensation and the only thing I did was a Titanium Restore of the GV app. I went into my settings on the One S and it says My Carrier but I just had someone test it and it came through just fine through GV. I would go into your settings in GV on the computer and make sure your phone is set up for VM in there and if it still doesn't work set it up on the old phone and just restore the app if you're rooted.
Good luck!

To avoid issues, I want to avoid rooting. It's the Wife's phone, and if I do anything to it, and she has a problem, I get blamed, even though we all know rooting isn't necessarily bad, and if she has a problem, it is probably the user, not the phone At the end of the day, I will root it if that is the only way to fix this, but I would think a Google phone should support GV out of the box, especially such an integrated feature within ICS. There must be some solution... although it is increasingly looking like I will have to call t-mobile, and remove Visual VM, to get GV to work... Just hoping to avoid that if possible too, as stated before, never had to do that, and always like a backup...
Hoping someone else has solved this and can share their solution. And before anyone asks, it is not a pre-paid plan, which I know has issues...
Found this on another forum, not sure if I can post the link, and it is too late for me to give it a try, but here is the other post, for anyone who wants to give it a shot. Having posted this, there still must be a way to do this without calling t-mobile...
So here's the scoop. Apparently, HTC has disabled the ability to change the voicemail carrier from the device itself. Probably some ploy to get users to use some other service or app. F That. I buy Android phones for a REASON. Anyways...
Here's the fix. Call T-Mobile support. Explain that you need to have the number changed on THEIR end. Just read them the Google Voice number over the phone and have them test it. And voilĂ ! Hope this helps!

Changing it on the phone didn't work right away for me but it did work a day or two later when I tried it again.
The *004* code worked for me, but you have to be off wifi calling to use it.

I had them code my Wife's Google Voice number as the conditional forwarding number (which is actuallt the Voice Mail number on the phone), and haven't had any issues since. If you don't know your number, it should show up on your GV homepage. Once you do that, everything works as it should.

I used their online chat and the rep switched my conditional forwarding to my GV number. Phone still says My Carrier, and it actually worked fine before, but did it just on principal...locking this down just to get a few more bucks from their own crap VV app is just wrong.

(APK) (Updated to 2.4.2.62 here on 08/09/2012) ATT visual voicemail latest release

Thanks to Note_E for posting this in the vivid forum, Figured I would bring it here for easier access for newer members, etc
This is the last release of the ATT visual voicemail app before it was taken of the android market. I don't think it will be supported any longer by ATT as they are trying to push the new ATT Messages app. This version is 2.1.112. This is not the ATT messages app that bundles everything together this is soley visual voicemail.
To install:
1. Download the apk (bottom of post) to your phone storage in a place you will remember.
2. Make sure you have unknown sources checked in settings/security on your phone
3. Uninstall any old version of ATT voicemail you may have on the phone. ( if you dont you may get a signature error)
4. use esfile explorer or whatever file explorer you prefer to navigate to the apk and install it.
5. Before you open it the first time make sure you turn wifi off it seems this app doesnt like wifi so its easier to set up over your mobile data connection. Once you set it up you can turn wifi back on and you should be good to go.
* Another option for install advanced users only - You can also place the APK in your data/app folder set permissions to rw-r-r then reboot the phone. This way you shouldn't have to go through the installation process.
NOTE: You must have visual voicemail on your account for this app to work. If you installed ATT messages and want to revert back to just visual voicemail with this app a call to ATT customer service to reset things may be necessary.
If this helped hit the thanks button!

Thanks! just installed it..went perfectly...I am hoping this version solves the won't get messages while connected to wifi bug of the older version.
Edit: Just tried it and this version will pull messages over wifi, but there is a considerable delay 3-5 minutes. Hopefully this improves after 5/28

Yea I don't know what ATT was thinking making us use data for most of their apps instead of WiFi, wouldn't be an issue if we still had unlimited lol.

There is definitely a slight delay but at least we are not getting charged the monthly fee for using AT&T messages along with the headache that comes with that app.

I like this better the ATT messages, that app also uses your data up if you have a 4g or 4g LTE phone. It syncs everything to the cloud so you would eat up your data plan fast if you use your phone a lot! They said they were working to fix that on ATT messages but I don't think they have yet. Voice mail is all I need Go sms even the stock app for messaging is sufficient for me.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I have a grandfathered "unlimited" data plan. In four days I hit 3 1/2 gigs....that app along with movie streaming sucked all of that up. I'm happy with this apk.
Keep on getting connection problem and error code MMI. please helpppp thanks. I already call ATT to reset my voicemail and make sure that Visual voicemail is their.

The app installed sucessfully? Your just getting issues when you open it up? First I would try uninstalling the app reboot the phone and re install it. That should fix connect issues. Also remember turn WiFi off the first time you open it and set it up via your data connection.

1. I uninstall then restarted
2. reinstall the visual voice
3. Turn off WIFI
4. Start the visual voicemail ask me to call voice
5. I call voicemail enter the password Still having the same problem invalid MMI Code.
Don't know what is worng with my phone.
Wierd it may be a phone or account issue, I would try calling customer support again.

Do you need Root for this app, because I like VVM but don't want AT&T message app?

Thank you so much. It's working flawlessly on my HOX.
FYI I had to call At&t 3 times to cancel the At&t Messages voicemail. My advice to you guys -if it didn't work with you- is to call At&t and talk with the technical support not the voicemail rep. and tell them that you want to cancel the At&t Messages and have the visual voicemail feature back. I had to explain these things to the stupid rep. till she transferred me to the tech. support guy who did it immediately.

Why can't I get voicemail working?

I really want to set up visual voicemail with Google Voice. I can't seem to figure it out though. Can anyone post a step by step guide? Right now, when someone calls me after 4 rings they get a message saying the person you has called is unavailable. There isn't even an option to leave a message. I don't know what I did wrong.
On another note, does anyone have any experience with At&t visual voicemail? Is it worth exploring that option over google voice?
This is one feature that I really would love to have on this otherwise perfect phone.
Your plan has to include visual voicemail if it doesn't then it doesn't matter how hard you try you will not get it setup. call And tell them you want visual voicemail and the tech will push the app to your phone and then it'll set up.

go to voice.google.com

phones ->activate voicemail
on your phone:
settings ->call -> voicemail -> set as google voice. it will fail, but just say yes anyways. it should work after that. (it does on my phone)
Thank you. I hope that works. This problem was present even before I updated though.

it's a known "problem" but I haven't had any issues with it other then it "failing" (see attached screenshot) to apply (but still works even with this message)
there are some other threads on this forum regarding this. you might have been able to find them if you had looked (harder).
anyways, since i'm here, i may as well post what worked for me
go to settings, call, additional settings, and set EVERY forwarding number (unanswered, busy, etc) to your google voice number. But **make sure Always Forward is disabled**

and you followed the instructions at voice.google.com by typing in that long number that starts with *004*.... ?
and are you having someone test call you to see if it does go to your google voice mailbox? again, your phone will show (after doing all the appropriate steps) that "Voicemail Service: My Carrier" but it will truly get forwarded to google voice... at least it does on my setup.
also, if this doesn't work, have you tried AT&T's version of visual voicemail? it's free with LTE data plan I believe.
Send yourself a voicemail it'll come up on the Google Voice client IF you followed the instructions here.
I've found it's less cumbersome on a pc to set it up.

I'm using GV. I had issues trying to get it to work at first. I tried a few things to get it working. First I just changed the section in call forwarding to my GV number. Seemed to work ok. But if I remember correctly To get it actually working I had to go to my google voice account on computer and go to settings. Then select deactivate google voice on this phone. It then gave me the code to type into my phone. Then I went back and hit activate my google voice number. Again it gave me the code to enter on my phone. After that I just went through install and setup for GV app on my phone.
The deactivating and the re-activating did the trick.

Awesome! Glad you got it working.
Or, if you switched carriers (and opted for a new number) like me, you can just disable the old number. I forgot to deactivate the old number before shutting off service to the phone.
