[GAME][2.3+] [Beta] - Tic Tac Cubed 0.4.04 (04-29-2014) - Android Apps and Games

Hey Everyone,
(pixie_dust) and I are beta testing our first mobile game. Below you will find a link to the newest build and a comprehensive change log. The game is Tic Tac Toe on a Rubik's Cube. All regular rules apply: three in a row on any side of the cube wins. However, you're playing all sides at the same time. There are four categories of power ups to choose from to mess with your opponent: Fire, Ice, Wind, and Earth. There are three levels to each type, and they all do some fun things. This game is online as well as off, so you will be able to choose from a friend sitting next to you, online friends, Facebook friends, or random strangers to play against. We are very close to an official launch. We are mostly looking for general feedback and balance issues. We are welcoming anyone who would like to help out. The game is supported from 2.3 Gingerbread to 4.4 Kit Kat.

Some big potential here. Needs polish. Certainly heading in the right direction.
Multiplayer should be the focus. Turn based play. Powerups. More powerups. Earned powerups. Sell power ups. (in app purchase) When i have more time, I'll write you better idea list. Short on time, just wanted to drop by sone words of encouragement. Keep at it!

Hey Johnny, thanks a ton for downloading. Just that brief feedback is wonderful. Those are all ideas we definitely have planned out, so your feedback is giving us the assurance that we're on the right track. We have around 14 powerups planned, including the 2 already in the game. The next build will have at least one additional powerup, and possibly some changes to the current ones. We do plan on incorporating in-app purchasing for powerups, but that will come later after we fully balance the game. We are designing it so that it will not restrict game-play in any way.

Just tried quickly. Awesome idea. But for now it's to buggy and rare design.
Can't wait for final release. Concentrate all your work on multiplayer mode! That's all you have to do!

Are you referring to the general speed of the gameplay or if it's lagging on your device? There are a few concerns with adding more squares/blocks, but it's definitely something we have considered and will continue to discuss . Thank you for the feedback

I don't think it lags. It's the movement if the cube... like a mouse that needs some acceleration... I wanted to tweak that.
The menus, clicking to take your turn, were a bit laborious too.

Any chance that AI will be implemented

- the tab bar icon at the bottom of the main screen works better
- new notifications available : updates of the game, missing email, missing avatar can be notified
- loading of a fight (test tactic, minifight, challenge) don't stop anymore at 60%, so you should not have problem anymore
- update button on the minifight, challenge and tournament screen in the title bar
- fight improved : the robots have colors (red and blue), you see your avatar here so now you know who you are
- lot of bugfix for more stability

Once updated, open the game and click "transfer my account..."
In the new page, in the "Second step", type your old nickname as password and it will work
Sorry for this process, I developped a solution so the next time you will not have to do it again.
Here is the changelog :
-bug fixed (but not all, sorry, and thank you for your reports!)

-credits are updated automatically after a challenge and displayed on the phone
-I'm curious to know how it work on BIG screens, I worked on the compatibility for tablets
-more notifications availables : I can send you notifications for votes. So I can ask you a question and by clicking "yes" or "no" I can see the trend of the community.
You will have notifications also for updates and a direct link to download.
- contacts : you can find friends easier, look for new peoples, most active peoples... and for each of them you have : their number of fights and the last time they played.
So you will not challenge anymore a guy who created an account just for 10 minutes.
-we created more battlefield. they will be available tomorow and you will not have to do anything to see them.
-I'm still working on artificial intelligence and a lot of stuff so... be patient. The work is not over !

And, yesterday the game has been stolen
A thief, took the apk, replaced the signature (this is actualy not too hard), and put the game on the market under his name, as a paid app !
I had to desactivate the actual version because of that. In the actual version, you will have a notification saying that you have to update. You can't create nor answer a fight, and can't add contact anymore.
In uploaded a new version on my server (0.9.4), it's registered on the google market, but not visible. So this guy will not be able to steal a second time the apk.
To avoid misunderstanding, the actual name (iron soldiers) will be replaced for the official launch.
Anyway, the version 0.9.4 does correct a lot a bugs and I hope it will work better on your phones
Every update will be done by replacing the apk by a newer, with the same name on my server.
I will notify here, by editing this first post.

so i have played it but it has crashed on me three times
set my tactics and done a simulation version.
one thing maybe i have slow reflexes but its pretty hard to get a high score in shoot reflex?
seems a prettly interesting game though.
have not played against anyone but i have sent a challenge so i am waiting to see how i stand up against one of the creators hehe!

Sorry i thought the challenge was for now but i read its for the saturday right?
i won't be in the country however if you fancy a challenge now then game on !
I also tested the game, and it looks fun. The graphics are nice, the GUI is good.
However, the short games to train the robot are a bit boring.
It's impossible to get scores higher than 700 in the reflex game without luck. The time frame is too narrow. Better increase the time frame and let the target appear on random places.
The concept is pretty nice, but the possibilities get very fast very limited.
However, it's in the beginning, so you'll probably add a lot of additional gadgets and items in the future.
But I also have to agree, it's very unstable, and crashes very often.

I think what you said is spot on
I have to agree on the reflex part it was pure chance that i got over 700.
I think that as it is a new game a lot of the options are limited currently as they are currently in development but it is an interesting game and the i have enjoyed playing it so far
One thing i will mention though is that i do like the fact that you have to choose a form of strategy to play. it will interesting when/if more people play how your own strategy works against others.

This game is limited right now because it's only a frame. After you will have weapons, goodies, more battlefields...
I have a ton of idea like :
- a magnetic bomb who paralize the ennemy 5 secs, so he is vulnerable to anything
- an oil bomb... so the ennemy loose control
- a nuclear bomb who make both of the player loosing 20 health points
....
(if you have some ideas, you can share )
But I need time to do it and first, I have to get rid of the bugs (and it's a pretty hard challenge for me !).

We updated the apk yesterday so it might have been a google play error with the update of the apk. Still i'll investigate the problem and keep you posted.

Tested it out in a couple of devices in the emulator and on the web, seems to work although there is a limitation to the app answer input. You can only write "Michael Jackson" with no spaces in the beginning or the end of the word and just one space in the middle.
Letters are not case sensitive so "miCHael JaCKSON" works but " Michael Jackson" or "Michael Jackson " doesn't.

I checked you game out. Nice one. Work on integrating google play game services. We are doing the same! The game is big because all the images all 420+ of them are saved localy. Your game isnt small sized too about 10 megs when you download all the content from the servers. Still keep the good work up!

Thanks for advice, I will talk to the team re integrating google play game services. Nevertheless, the market share for puzzle/trivia is small compared to arcade or other I guess. We should better concentrate our efforts on finding the right niche or right place to submit the app, rather than improving the app at this stage.

Thanks for the advice i did not know the share for acrade was that big comparing the puzzle / trivia. The thing is that it's a little bit harder to get a arcade right at the first time without a lot of experience. We are focusing on distributing the app in a cross - platform solution. :laugh:

The ability to add new game scoring rules is definitely in the works, but I'd also like to try and have a decent set of popular games already built in. Are there some that you would like to suggest I add?

Thats great news
I use keepscore app for Flick it Kick it tabletop football when playing with my son. It allows me to add 4 scoring increments of my choice on each players split screen scoreboard (6 for td, 3 for fg, etc...) at just the push of a button. For some reason my screenshot feature doesnt work on my sgs3 while in the game so I cant show you. Its free if u want to look at it though.
Other games that would be nice are:
Dominoes
Yahtzee
I guess thats all I have that I play for now. I will list more as I think of them.

PS I love how it sets a winning score and ends the game when that score is hit. Keepscore doesnt have that feature. I also love how score it saves previous games (crucial for smack talk!)

Updated to beta 0.2. This release includes a game definition editor to allow you to create your own scoring rules for any games not included by default. Access 'Manage Games' via the card and gear icon in the upper-right corner. Enjoy.

Man, Google license verification library has been nothing but a pain for me. I pushed an update that should take care of your issue. I'm not sure how long before it becomes live, but it'll be version 1.0.1 of the full app (no update to the free version was made). Thanks for the error report and for your support.

I'm sorry your experience hasn't been good so far. I cannot see a reason why the 'Cancel' button on the new game screen would cause an FC. Are you able to press 'Play Game' and start scoring? Can you press the device's back button or the app's back button ('<' indicator in the upper-left) from the new game screen without FC? Can you give me the exact steps you are taking that lead to the FC so I can try and reproduce? Thanks.

I was able to start scoring. I can enter and save scores just fine.
Here's screen by screen what I did:
On the 3rd screen... I push cancel, and thats when my Sgs3 on 4.0.4 fc's
If I push the back button before the canel button it goes back just fine.
Also see the circle on the first screen by the "new game +" sign... that never stops refreshing or doing whatever it's doing.

I'll take this as a humbling "welcome to Android development" learning experience. I was able to reproduce the bug, but only on one of the devices I have to test on. It will be fixed in the next update which I hope to push to the Play Store some time tomorrow. Thanks again for helping out.

Hm, I guess this should be fine - the extra ones that I have normally don't happen.
So it might be memory issues. You can try using Bluestacks to test it in Android 2.3. Look into windows registers for memory size and set it very low. I haven't tried, but probably heap size can be set as well. I posted the registers changes for memory on my blog: http://android.kul.is/2013/08/android-emulator-alterinative-part-1.html

[GAME][2.2+] Mr. Dandelion's Adventures [Final Release]

I have released my first Android game Mr. Dandelion's Adventures. It's still work in progress - I am a hobbyist and the purpose of this game is to learn more than anything else. It's a simple platformer/physics/causal game where you use wind to fly a stylized dandelion seed around.

I have already received good and honest reviews from people on the internet, and that was the reason for all the updates I have already released (current version is 1.8.1). I think it made the game less boring and therefore I'd appreciate more of the honest feedback!
The game is using AndEngine for 2D graphics, other than that I used Facebook SDK and that's all.
Blog entry: I started three months with knowledge of Java programming, other than that I had nothing. I wanted to do everything by myself, so I learned basics of illustration, animation, sound processing. I have found tons of useful resources on the web (music, sounds) licensed as CC-BY or CC-0 which helped me a lot. I worked on the game on weekends and sometimes after work - I still have my full time job and I don't really think I can go full time Indie If anyone wants to know how I did this or that, let me know!

It is a great encouragement for future work.
Very nice game, I love the reaction of the dandelion to the user actions, as well as the low gravity implementation, and it is quite difficult to master.
With more "candy candy" graphics (and music!) it could be a hit :good::good:

Thanks for the suggestion. I already have some ideas for graphics and I will put in more music, that's not a problem - I already have a playlist for it. I was just afraid to make the game too big now, when there are many updates. But since more people requested the samething, it will be done! :good:

Yes, it is AndEngine. It's pretty simple. Some things are harder to achieve, because AndEngine makes a lot of simplifications, but for a first game, I can recommend it!

The game is pretty much stable, no crash reports. After the review from Android Assault, I am getting more downloads (woohoo). So I guess I need to be careful with the updates. Well, this is my first game and I am even a novice Android user. So I don't know what people prefer. One big update or many small updates? Does it matter?
And I think people like to see detailed update descriptions too.

Hint: You mist figure out a way, how to pickup all coins at once. Blow once from the correct spot in correct direction and then just leave him to pick up coins

When the application crashes, you have two options. Close and Report. When you use Report, you have an option to submit a stacktrace and your custom message. It is very useful when you describe what you tried to do just before the crash. Also if you fill in the message I get information which phone/device have you used. From there I can determine what happened.:good:
