My partner and I both have SIIs, both on Tmobile UK contract. While hers zips along with full connectivity mine never goes to H, only 3G and after a while drops out completely, no signal, and will only connect via WiFi. Also touch sensitivity is lessened.
We took it to the Tmobile store (who failed to let us know it was ready!) but its the same, only wiped.
After some googling it seems the update which was applied automatically, had files missing making the radio (connectivity) not function properly.
Cant roll back and so Im stuck with a hampered handset. Our only options are to sell it for a pittance or root it and put another ROM on. But SIIs can be tricky as you have to match the ROM to the kernel!
Here's its details:
Model number

Android version 4.0.4
Baseband versionI9100BVLPE

Hi!
I am not an expert, I just want to give you my advice.
I also have an S2 and I have rooted it the first day it came. So I suggest you rooted it and apply an official ROM.
OR you could donwload any 4.1.2 from SamMobile and flash it through Odin. (as it is official, you'll get no yellow triangle or counter)

Thanks, I have rooted phones in the past but with the SII you have to match the ROM to the kernel. You cant just use any ROM it seems.

Hi all,
I just got a new NS 9023.
When I got it, the system was 2.3.6(I dont remember if that is official or not)
After some simple tests, I flash the rom to MIUI. And MIUI works fine.
One day later, I want my phone go back to official rom. So I download a 2.3.3 official rom from google.(The link was found on this forum)
Then the problem came - The signal is worse then before. I can't get EDGE, but before I flash the "official rom", EDGE works well. i tried lots of baseband packages but none of them works.
Can someone tell me what should I do now?
Here are some information:
product name herring
hw version: rev 52
bootloader: i9020xxka3
baseband: i9020xxdk1
carrier info: vof
A friend of mine bought a 9023 the same time as mine.
I checked his bootloader, only one different is the carrier info, it is EUR on his phone.
check the IMEI number and see whether it's true or not ?

Baseband seen from system is I9023XXKD1, which I consider is correct.
and signal strength usually between -83 ~ -93dBm both in office and outside.
Also, I found a radio dump bin on sdcard. Is there any way I can use that file?

At the top you say you have an i9023 but your bootloader and radio are i9020. So which is it? Is your problem because you flashed your phone with a stock rom for a different model?

Don't post your IMEI in public. I suggest you remove it. X1111 just wanted to check if your IMEI is changed, but that as nothing to do with your problem. Because if that was a problem, you couldn't get any signal at all.
As I can see, you are surely cofused which device do u have, and therefore flash wrong ROM/Radio. Did you try *#*#4636#*#*? If not try dial it, choose "Phone information", pres menu button, choose "Select radio band" and choose EUR band...
If that doesn't help you, wipe /data /cache and /system in recovery and flash correct stock rooted ROM. Hope that will help...
yes. i have a 9023 device and all 9023 around me have 9020XXKD1 information on boot screen.

Thanks tenhi.
I tried 4636 code and change my baseband to EUR. seems better now. but still not so good. i will keep testing.

I was currently using MIUI GB build from brainmaster, and I wanted to switch to the ICS after finally finding out they halted the OTA update. Well I'm using T-Mobile, and when i flashed the stock rom back, i was not able to us the 9023t stock rom as it kept giving errors. So i had to tried the 9020a (which i believe is for ATT) and that worked. My phone is able to make calls and receive texts, but it only shows that its on edge (e) and no more 3g on the status bar.
My question is, is there a way to switch the baseband back to a 9023t build? or did i always have an ATT branded phone?
edit:
This is what my phone status shows:
Carrier: Tmobile
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband: I9020AUCKF1
Kernal: 2.6.35.7-gf5f63ef
[email protected] #1
Build: GRK39F
Another update:
Just verified after pulling my battery the model states:
GT-I9020T
It seems that you have flashed an I9020A baseband on an I9020T. There have been reports that people who have done this have never been able to get 3G again.
However, you can try to follow this link and flash the KI1 baseband and see what happens.
Just out of interest... do you know anyone with an AT&T sim that you can borrow to see if you can pick up AT&T's 3G now? (you would have to make sure that then APN for att is entered and selected) It's extremely doubtful but would be interesting to know nevertheless...

I will try and flash that baseband, and will update asap. As of right now, I dont have an ATT sim card, but if i do come across one i will update as well.
Also, do you know why it happened to let me install the 9020a rom, and not the 9020t? I had to root my phone from scratch all over again to erase the MIUI rom and to try to bring it back to stock. Every time i tried to install the 9020t/9023 it kept giving me the error message:
E: Failed to verify whole-file signature
But it worked like a charm when i attempted to do it with the 9020a.
I was able to flash the KI1 baseband with no problems at all. Now with this will I be able to flash ICS?

Either flash the official OTA or an ICS ROM that doesn't contain a radio.
I've been doing a search to see if its worth updating my stock Galaxy S 4G to Gingerbread via the official update with Samsung Kies.
Does anyone know of a specific list of all the pros and cons to do so?
I've been pretty happy with my phone these last few months, but if the update can truly improve the performance, I'd probably give it ago.
I'm hoping to develop a little game plan for doing so, perhaps updating to Gingerbread, and then rooting the phone to erase a few programs like TelNav.
Any know the best way to root the phone once its been updated?
I'm also curious if anyone knows if the Gingerbread update will allow me to install Skype, because as of now my phone can't even install it (it just reboots with a failed install every time).
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Yes. Worth it. Do it.
Here is a guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21954884
what about Skype?
Thanks for the links. I will tread carefully.
Do you happen to know if Skype with video will work once the Gingerbread update is installed?

my phone is using a chip from another company (movistar-peru). would there be a problem if i update to gingerbread trough kies? i guess they might have changed the configuration of the phone. any advice?
A chip? Do you mean a SIM card? If so, and you have a Galaxy S 4G - SGH-T959V you can update.
Wont his phone be relocked once he upgrades?
I'm not sure if it will re-lock. If so, he can use FB's unlocker script to re-unlock it.
@migueltr14 as lumin stated if you have that model of phone then yes you can update. Be aware tho it is possible to have to unlock the phone. If you dont have the unlock code I suggest getting it first.
Or you can root the device after and use the method in the link below.

You can update u just may need to unlock the phone(not root) since its a tmobile phone on a different network

Oh thanks for the infor!, but when you say that i might have to unlock the phone, you're talking about paying for a web site to give the code or there's another way of getting it?
You can go that route. Or if you root the phone the link in my previous post will tell you how to get the code yourself.
Thanks a lot!, i updated my phone, SIM card works fine (didn't need the unlock code)
I bought this Nexus S, i9020. It's just a couple of days old. Had ICS 4.0.4 and when connected to WiFi, phone started downloading latest system update. Installed the update quickly. The battery however, started draining too quickly after the update.
My problem or nightmare started when I tried to revert or downgrade this cellphone to Gingerbread 2.3.6, because I read that on GB, this phone's battery lasted for more than a day.
Anyhow, when I downloaded this One_Step_Click guide for downgrading to GB 2.3.6, the phone actually downgraded, but to my utter surprise, it has downgraded to Sprint Nexus S 4G, the phone now shows following:
Model number: Nexus S 4G (which it's not, its Nexus S i9020)
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband version: Unknown
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-ge382d80
Build number: GRJ22
The phone has lost the GSM signal, although SIM is still in the SIM slot. I can still connect to WiFi and connect to my Google account.
FYI, i am using Ufone GSM network here in Karachi, Pakistan.
Need urgent help in restoring my Nexus S to its original state to be able to use on GSM network.
Appreciate your help.
Thanks.
Seems like you are actually messed up. So you want Gingerbread 2.3.6 on your NS, right?
Just confirm me one thing, is it I9020T or I9020A? I'll be easily able to help you then

I am facing a similar issue (in Pakistan) and can't seem to find the right baseband/radio. I tried almost all radios at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884 but the problem remains - I get very very low signals (my SIM works fine on other phones). Any PM for me as well

Good day. I've been scouring the forums for a week now and I have a fair grasp of which guides I should follow. However,I have a limited technical capability to fix it and a fair share of knowledge through reading. So if there's any of you who can pitch in some ideas,I'd gladly appreciate it.

History
I acquired an LG SU760 phone which has been,at the time,on Gingerbread. Can't tell specifically the details but as far as I can recall,
it had a CWM recovery on it.I believe it was also rooted since I saw a SuperSU app.
Upon learning that the unit can be upgraded to ICS, I wanted it to be reverted on official stock GB,and then, later updated to official ICS thru OTA.
So I had the unit sent to a "TECH GUY" who apparently failed miserably on fixing it.Instead, leaving me with the unit with the issues above.
From what he told me,He apparently flashed or used a p920 rom, then failed. Soft bricked the thing. Downgraded it to GB. Updated it to ICS port, but got the Camera inverted and the 3 soft keys messed.Reverted back to GB with intact wifi and bluetooth. Noticed it consumed too much phone memory. And then finally settled into downgrading the thing to Froyo 2.2.2. Now I have a LG SU760 on froyo 2.2.2 with no WIFI, no BLUETOOTH, significant signal issues,no mobile internet connectivity, and a functional camera.Pretty useless if you ask me.

THOUGHTS
After reading some guides, and inputs from others, here's the issues that I thought may address the situation.
Maybe it has an IMEI problem
Maybe it was a baseband error
Maybe it had a bad flash?
So with these, I ask your help.
QUESTIONS
Priority 1:How do I upgrade it to Gingerbread and ICS?
Priority 2: How do I fix it's wifi, bluetooth, and mobile data issue?
So if you're kind enough to help a noob, then bless your soul. I work in the health sector from the Ph and being able to fix this unit might as well cut my father's losses.
Thank you for your help.

It says I must be on ICS.
Okay,I have updated to ver 2.3.5 GB with kernel 2.6.35.7 using LG mobile support tool.
Still with NO WIFI and Network Signal.
However I got a mirrored front cam and bluetooth restored.
I'm now updating to ICS via the same tool.
Any thoughts on how to restore the WIFI back?
So I have updated to ICS via LG Support toolthe and here's the details.
Network unknown
signal strength -87dbm 13 asu
mobile network type unknown
service state out of service
roaming not roaming
mobile network state disconnected
ip address unavailable
Phone Identitiy
IMEI 357656045571864
IMEI SV 00
SERIAL NUMBER 0000000
Hardware info
Wi-Fi MAC address unavaliable
Bluetooth address unavailable
Software information
Android version 4.0.4
Baseband Version XMM6260
Kernel Version 3.0.21
Build Number ICS
Software Version LGSU760-V30b-OCT-18-2012
Still can't connect to WIFI,
Front cam shows mirrored image
Smooth ICS interface
Network is a problem
Any suggestions?
Also, maybe it is indeed a case of an IMEI error,and/or the BASEBAND is having issues.
How can I flash a baseband?
How can I fix the IMEI?
try that http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956347
Will it fix my wifi problem and network issue?
