[Q] Need Help on Nexus S 9023 signal problem - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I just got a new NS 9023.
When I got it, the system was 2.3.6(I dont remember if that is official or not)
After some simple tests, I flash the rom to MIUI. And MIUI works fine.
One day later, I want my phone go back to official rom. So I download a 2.3.3 official rom from google.(The link was found on this forum)
Then the problem came - The signal is worse then before. I can't get EDGE, but before I flash the "official rom", EDGE works well. i tried lots of baseband packages but none of them works.
Can someone tell me what should I do now?
Here are some information:
product name herring
hw version: rev 52
bootloader: i9020xxka3
baseband: i9020xxdk1
carrier info: vof
A friend of mine bought a 9023 the same time as mine.
I checked his bootloader, only one different is the carrier info, it is EUR on his phone.

check the IMEI number and see whether it's true or not ?
system -> about -> status

Baseband seen from system is I9023XXKD1, which I consider is correct.
and signal strength usually between -83 ~ -93dBm both in office and outside.
Also, I found a radio dump bin on sdcard. Is there any way I can use that file?

At the top you say you have an i9023 but your bootloader and radio are i9020. So which is it? Is your problem because you flashed your phone with a stock rom for a different model?

Don't post your IMEI in public. I suggest you remove it. X1111 just wanted to check if your IMEI is changed, but that as nothing to do with your problem. Because if that was a problem, you couldn't get any signal at all.
As I can see, you are surely cofused which device do u have, and therefore flash wrong ROM/Radio. Did you try *#*#4636#*#*? If not try dial it, choose "Phone information", pres menu button, choose "Select radio band" and choose EUR band...
If that doesn't help you, wipe /data /cache and /system in recovery and flash correct stock rooted ROM. Hope that will help...

yes. i have a 9023 device and all 9023 around me have 9020XXKD1 information on boot screen.

Thanks tenhi.
I tried 4636 code and change my baseband to EUR. seems better now. but still not so good. i will keep testing.

[Q] Reversing Gingerbread Baseband Flash or Correct Baseband for my Provider

Good Morning,
After flashing the Gingerbread Baseband I no longer am able to register on the network for my provider.
The device is from Rogers but unlocked and being used on the Bell network.
After flashing I realized there may be a different baseband for me to use in Canada (just North of Toronto).
I require some help in locating a Gingerbread baseband that would work or provide me with instructions on how to return to the original baseband.
Any help is appreciated!
Thank you kindly,
- Audi2Audi
Did you set the APN manually? You have to do that.
Hello!
APN in Menu|Settings|Wireless & Networks|Mobile Networks|Access Point Names ?
I have set that to: pda.bell.ca
Is there other steps required though?
Thank you for the response!
apn settings is for internet. phone must tower of sim. may be flashing baseband again will soveit because i am tower getting for my country
If you're wanting to go back to stock froyo first you need to visit here to get your original rom... these will also flash the baseband back too
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1246678
or here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155874
then you will need to follow this turtorial in order to flash the stock rom back on (go down to second post that one is in English )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1244490
Although it is a possibility that the BB hasn't flashed correctly, might be worth trying it again... might also be worth trying a froyo rom to see if you get a signal then, because if you do you still have the froyo baseband on...

Thanks adixtra i always forget about the tutorial of yours
You can flash a .Bin File for Your P920 or P920H.
Ok, now this is getting bizarre hah.
I reflashed the baseband again and everything went normal as it did before.
This time I searched for networks and selected my provider. After about 5 minutes of the device trying to register on the network an error was received that said it was unable to register on this network.
However, when I got to my home screen I was registered on the network. I tested a voice call and it worked. I have tested data as well.
BUT! This is where it gets even more bizarre...The device cycles from 4 signal bars to 2 signal bars to none to 3G (from H) followed by not being registered on the network. Then a few minutes later (sometimes only after a reboot) it returns to 4 bars and begins the cycle again.
Has anyone seen anything like this before?
Thank you again for your help!

Good Evening,
Would you be able to upload the KDZ file from your update?
I am having problems with the LG Phone Recovery indicating that I have the most up to date software and halting the recovery process.
Thank you!

Hello,
I flashed an earlier KDZ which allowed me to use the LG Update tool to restore my stock rom.
Thank you everyone for your help and advice.
- Audi2Audi.

[Q] Please Help! Using 9020a on T-mobile.

I was currently using MIUI GB build from brainmaster, and I wanted to switch to the ICS after finally finding out they halted the OTA update. Well I'm using T-Mobile, and when i flashed the stock rom back, i was not able to us the 9023t stock rom as it kept giving errors. So i had to tried the 9020a (which i believe is for ATT) and that worked. My phone is able to make calls and receive texts, but it only shows that its on edge (e) and no more 3g on the status bar.
My question is, is there a way to switch the baseband back to a 9023t build? or did i always have an ATT branded phone?
edit:
This is what my phone status shows:
Carrier: Tmobile
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband: I9020AUCKF1
Kernal: 2.6.35.7-gf5f63ef
[email protected] #1
Build: GRK39F
Another update:
Just verified after pulling my battery the model states:
GT-I9020T
It seems that you have flashed an I9020A baseband on an I9020T. There have been reports that people who have done this have never been able to get 3G again.
However, you can try to follow this link and flash the KI1 baseband and see what happens.
Just out of interest... do you know anyone with an AT&T sim that you can borrow to see if you can pick up AT&T's 3G now? (you would have to make sure that then APN for att is entered and selected) It's extremely doubtful but would be interesting to know nevertheless...

I will try and flash that baseband, and will update asap. As of right now, I dont have an ATT sim card, but if i do come across one i will update as well.
Also, do you know why it happened to let me install the 9020a rom, and not the 9020t? I had to root my phone from scratch all over again to erase the MIUI rom and to try to bring it back to stock. Every time i tried to install the 9020t/9023 it kept giving me the error message:
E: Failed to verify whole-file signature
But it worked like a charm when i attempted to do it with the 9020a.
I was able to flash the KI1 baseband with no problems at all. Now with this will I be able to flash ICS?

Either flash the official OTA or an ICS ROM that doesn't contain a radio.

How to find out model number?

Hi,
My friend has a Nexus S which isn't doing OTA updates. She's still stuck with 2.3.6 and I'm trying to help her get ICS which means I need to know exactly what model it is. Under "About Phone" the baseband says I9020XXKF1. Is this a I9020A or I9020T?
I'd be leaning towards an i9020T but unsure if that baseband works with the A too. Best bet is to check behind the battery cover, if there is i9020 or i9020T it is the T version.
You'll be able to get her to 4.0.3 by downloading the upgrade .zip manually from google (through stock recovery), there is a stickied thread with the official links.
Thanks. I did a little googling and it seems that it's a T. If it ends up to be otherwise and I try flashing a T update, would it throw an error or would the phone get corrupted?
Sticker
You can get the exact model of the sticker underneath the battery also
If you flash in stock recovery it'll just throw out an error if it is a different model.
Hello guys,
I was having the same question today so I took the battery out and looked on the back of the phone.
It just writes GT-I9020 and the baseband version is I9020XXKI1. A friend of mine imported it from Hongkong in February and had android 4.03 installed. So what version could it be?
On the Wikipedia I read that a version of GT-I9020 was especially made for the Korean market. Can someone confirm that I have only GT-I9020 and not the A or T version?

[Q][Help] I just bought Nexus S, help needed to Identify model and root

Hi Friends,
I just bought my new Nexus S and started reading the root procedure in Nexus forums, it seems to be simple (i have experience with fastboot and adb commands) but I am really amazed that what model exactly I have.
I dont want to brick due to incompatible root procedure or CWM or ROMs, so I need your expert advices about the correct procedure.
Below is my phone details :
Sticker on Back of phone says :
GT-I9020T
In Fastboot Mode:
Product Name : Herring
HW Version : Rev 11
BootLoader Version : I9020XXKL1
Baseband Version : M200KRKC1
Carrier Info : KIT
Serial No : ......
Lock State - Locked
In Settings->About :
Model Number : Nexus S
Android Version : 4.0.4
Baseband Version : M200KRKC1
Kernel Version : 3.0.8-g6656123 [email protected] #1 Thu Feb 2 16:56:02
Build Number : IMM76D
Here are my confusions point wise :
1) What model exactly I have ? if its Korean Ver then Is it 100% compatible with all the NS Roms in development forums ?
2) Is it a Super Amoled version ? Is there any way to find out screen type by any application?
3) What is the correct Rooting method for this model ? I will appreciate if anyone can give a link to thread.
4) Will it utilize the same CWM recovery as Crespo/NS ?
5) Where can I find the Stock Rom for this model ?
Help from experts will be appreciated.
Thank You All
AliDSD
1) You have the i9020T. Codename is Crespo. It is the Soju variant supporting the 2100MHz 3G band rather than the 850MHz.
2) Super AMOLED, 800x480px pentile.
3) Correct rooting method is unlocking the bootloader via fastboot, flashing a custom recovery and flashing the latest superuser.zip file.
4) Yes.
5) See below.
Just about all the information you need can be found in this sticky roundup. All of the ROMs you find in the development section (not the 4G section) will work fine on your phone unless specifically stated otherwise. The 4G is very similar though notably different. The i9020T and i9023 are the same device with a different screen. The i9020A and the i9020T are the same device with different GSM radio capabilities. No idea about the korean version.

If the sticker on the back says I9020T then it's I9020T (International Version)
That's really weird...
Don't post them here, but is the IMEI on the sticker the same as the IMEI in settings->about? If not (and it doesn't start with 0049 in settings), someone has changed the sticker to look like it's an i9020T (most likely scenario).

I double checked IMEI on sticker and in settings and it is same.
So if we ignore sticker for a while and decide according to Bootloader info, then what exactly is the model number ?
And second question is that Can baseband M200K... be used in US/UK models ?
Bootloader version is common between i9020T and M200 so this doesn't tell us anything noteworthy. Unsure about baseband and which versions will accept it.

[Q] Help required - Nexus S i9020

I bought this Nexus S, i9020. It's just a couple of days old. Had ICS 4.0.4 and when connected to WiFi, phone started downloading latest system update. Installed the update quickly. The battery however, started draining too quickly after the update.
My problem or nightmare started when I tried to revert or downgrade this cellphone to Gingerbread 2.3.6, because I read that on GB, this phone's battery lasted for more than a day.
Anyhow, when I downloaded this One_Step_Click guide for downgrading to GB 2.3.6, the phone actually downgraded, but to my utter surprise, it has downgraded to Sprint Nexus S 4G, the phone now shows following:
Model number: Nexus S 4G (which it's not, its Nexus S i9020)
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband version: Unknown
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-ge382d80
Build number: GRJ22
The phone has lost the GSM signal, although SIM is still in the SIM slot. I can still connect to WiFi and connect to my Google account.
FYI, i am using Ufone GSM network here in Karachi, Pakistan.
Need urgent help in restoring my Nexus S to its original state to be able to use on GSM network.
Appreciate your help.
Thanks.
Seems like you are actually messed up. So you want Gingerbread 2.3.6 on your NS, right?
Just confirm me one thing, is it I9020T or I9020A? I'll be easily able to help you then

I am facing a similar issue (in Pakistan) and can't seem to find the right baseband/radio. I tried almost all radios at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884 but the problem remains - I get very very low signals (my SIM works fine on other phones). Any PM for me as well
