CWM Menu

I have a few question in the menu of CWM.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
-reboot system now (reboots system)
-apple update from sd card ( what does this do? )
-wipe data/factory reset (you have to do this everytime u flash a new rom)
-wipe cache partition (what does this do?)
-Install zip from sd card (install rom and kernels)
-backup and restore (make back ups and restore)
-mounts and storage (what does this do?)
-Advance (battery calibration, dalvik cache, right?
-power off ( shuts down )
Edit:
When I see rom and kernel that says 'Clear cache' is that partition cache?
From eagle blood
WIPE WIPE WIPE
wipe data
wipe cache
wipe dalvik
back to main screen
mounts and storage select format/system <<< (What is this? Is this required before you can install any rom?)''
--
Also, if I click wipe data/factory reset, than I don't need to do wipe cache and dalvik right?
I know for a fact that...
Wipe cache- just wipes the extra cache (does what it says)
Apply update- can be used to install updates like kernels if the zip is changed to update.zip
Yes when it says wip cache it means the cache partition, and you still need to wipe both caches after a factory reset.
Hope this helped!
So everytime you install a new rom, it's best to do
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-wipe dalvik cache
right?

Updating ROM:
-wipe cache partition
-wipe dalvik cache
-wipe data/factory reset(good in practice, but not necessary)
Changing ROM:
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-wipe dalvik cache
-Format System
How do I format the system?
I'm asking this because I'm going to get this phone in like 1-2 days.
Is it necessary to format system? Say Eagleblood to cm7.
When changing kernel, I should do only cache partition and dalvik cache right?
EDIT:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158377
What is this? Seems like people deleted their internal partition? What caused it?
Sorry for being a noob. :/
Edit2:
Say I got my phone running stock gingerbread, and I have CWM installed. And I wanna flash CM7.
Are these the correct steps?
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-wipe dalvik cache
Than install from sd card and select rom.

What's the consequence if I don't '-Format System?'
Also, if I format system, that means everything even the rom will be deleted right? Won't mess up partition table or anything like that right for cwm?

This is my first Android device, coming from a iPhone 3GS.
I have flashed rom before using CWM, but that was on my friend's HD2.

Yes. Everything will be deleted. The partitions will not be touched.
Everything I use is as follows:
Wipe data factory reset, this clears all data on your phone, including the present rom and kernel, to make room for the new one.
Wipe cache partition, this clears all saved data and stuff you've been doing on your previous rom.
Install zip from SD card (External SD)
Install zip from internal SD card, normally when you download a rom from your browser lies here.
Advanced:
Wipe Dalvik cache, this I'm not sure what it precisely does, though it clears data from previous roms.
Key test, this is mainly used for fixing broken or not working keys.
And reboot system now speaks for itself.
That's all I use for flashing anything

First install v4.0 and then flash v4.7
To install v4,0 and then v4.7 read the opening post.
Steps:
Goto recovery
Backup the existing ROM (Just In case). Also backup the /efs folder (just in case)
wipe dalvik cache (in advanced)
wipe cache
wipe data
format /system (optional - read below)
install the superwipe
install the 4.0
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache

Then Flash v4.0
then turn off (no need to complete the setup procedure - you can do this after installing v4.7)
install the 4.7
instal the market zip
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache
fix permissions
then reboot!
I usually also do a format /system to ensure a clean install. Prevents some force closes later
Please verify the md5 of the files you downloaded to ensure they are not corrupted.
v4.0 (MD5): 990bf3ddb2a3a1374995d1ff5946bf9c
v4.7 (MD5): eb934715f441bd5ce6d747493ca91a38

@SHELDON COOPR This might work.
1. Install latest Android-Andi TWRP recovery.
2. Check the md5 of the ROM and Gapps and copy them to your tablet (if you have a microSD card put them on that instead and insert it into your tablet.
3. Boot into TWRP and make a backup.
4. Click Wipe > Advanced wipe. Select system, data, cache, dalvik. If the ROM and backup are on your external SD card then wipe internal SD also.)
5. Flash ROM.zip and gapps.zip and any other addons.
6. Click "Wipe Cache/Dalvik."
7. After the wipe is completed, click "Back" then "Reboot."
8. Once the ROM reboots to the setup screen, let it sit for 5 minutes and then reboot back into recovery.
9. Click Wipe > Advanced Wipe
10. Select Dalvik Cache and Cache.
11. Click "Home" at the top of the screen and then click Reboot > System.
12. The ROM will go into "Android is Upgrading. Optimizing Apps"
13. Go through setup like normal and enjoy the ROM.

Wow, that could be a problem. I found this article that might work. http://www.digitalreborn.com/fix-samsung-galaxy-unable-mount-efs/
One other thing that I thought of was to Odin back to stock, but that might not work if what I said above didn't. So I would recommend looking at the link above.

Ignore what I just said about re-flashing stock with Odin.
efs is a partition on the phone's internal memory that is used to store important information (like the IMEI - the unique serial number of the phone). It's not accessible to a normal user and shouldn't get corrupted under regular use.*
With all of that said, you're apparently having such a problem, but I'm pretty sure that simply rewriting the firmware isn't going to fix this - that partition isn't included in the stock firmware files.

Quoted from http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s3/377195-what-does-failed-mount-efs-mean.
One thing I make sure I always do is make a backup of EFS before I flash anything. (The latest @Android-Andi TWRP will do this)

HI everyone
is there any chance to restore efs to my tablet, which i accidentally deleted while installing new os.....
thanks
You may have installed the wrong rom like P3100 instead of P3110?
Happened to me with my P5113, instead of P5110 , I did P5100.
Was able to go into D/L mode and odin flash correct rom.
