if you go to the phones main settings, security, lockscreen, then turn off the lockscreen, you can wake the device with the volume buttons.

Yes, this is a way.
There is a lot of way to wake up the phone, for example you can flash a kernel with Touch Wake support (just touch the screen to wake the phone).

yea, but with touchwake youre phone never goes into sleep(not good for battery life). its awake, just the screen is off. plus you cant keep it in your pocket with touchwake, youll just end up turning the screen on.

Yeah, it's only to suggest alternative methods.

Why? Nexus s has a capacitive screen, so if you don't touch it with your fingers or with something that's an electrical conductor, the screen shouldn't turn on...am I wrong?

i would think so too, but..
tell that to my phone that not only opened applications while in my pocket, when i was using touchwake, but once opened the rootbooter app then booted into recovery and wiped my dalvik
You can check al_madd's guide on Nexus S with Power button broken:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524858
You can call your phone, then it will wake up

You always need another phone only to wake up your nexus s.

[Q] Samsung Focus lock screen issues

I usually have to press the lock button twice to lock or unlock the screen.
Does this happen to anyone else?

Sounds like maybe the button is wearing out.

I dont think the button is wearing out, I think its how its suppose to work, I have a Samsung Focus 1.3 and it needs to clicks to wake up from when I click the button to turn it off. However when it shuts off on its own, I only need one click to wake it up.
I did test this for about a week because I never noticed until I saw this post about a week ago.

[Q] Cannot restart phone. Power button not responsive.

I cannot restart my One S as the power button is no longer responsive.
Is there any other way to restart the device? And no I am not rooted.
Try taking the sim cover off and press the little power button directly

Thanks for the reply. I have tried that and it only works to turn the screen on and off. Cannot get it to restart.
Hi,
I understand your phone is still on? From the subject one might understand it is off and you can't (re)start it...
Anyways, I've just learned you can do a soft restart by holding the power button for 15 seconds. You will get a countdown on the screen, after it will shutdown and restart (actually, it's more like 10 seconds, but 15 seconds is what HTC support told me - probably in case people count too fast ).

Correct the phone is on.
What you have suggested I cannot do as the power button is the problem. I cannot get a response from it unless I take off the cover and fiddle with the actual button. In ahort holding the button down yields no result with or without the cover.
if you have USB debugging turn on, u can do
fastboot reboot

or
adb reboot-bootloader

Thanks. That's what I'll do as soon as I get a new computer.

Ah, sorry, I wasn't sure if the problem was with the button physically being broken or the software being in a convoluted non-responsive state. In the latter case my suggestion might have helped (in case you can't restart because the menu is not popping up, but the button still works).

Right. The issue seems to be with the button itself. Looks like I'll have to send it in.
Had a similar issue when I had a Sensation 4G. So now I'm a little leary about getting another HTC device.
I guess I have to find another phone to buy. Maybe I'll pick up a Galaxy Nexus again
If you're rooted search the market for a reset app and put the button on a second dock. That's what i did for my mytouch that has the same problem. But either way send it in for repair

I'm not rooted.
I will send it in for repair as soon as I buy a new phone to replace it.

is there an application that mimics the motion/swipe (sg3) to do a screen capture

I got my wife to switch from her bogged down s3 to an n5 and she loves the speed and new device but misses some of her bells and whistles from the s3.
anyone know if there is a screen capture app that lets you swipe your hand on the screen (sg3 like) to catpure the screen?
thanks in advance.
Is there any way to do screen capture at all without root?

Yep, this was a stock ICS implementation I think
She thinks that's a bell or whistle? Its the most ridiculous way of doing a screenshot iv seen. My mate tried showing me to show off his phone
I just turned and did it the android way one handed and ripped him for a minute for looking like a fag xD

Unlocking the screen with Fingerprint Scanner

One plus 2 can unlock their phones without turning thier screen on or waking it up... is it possible to impliment that to the note 5 or is that hardware?
Thanks in advance!!

I suppose you can just press on the home button and have the phone wake at the same time. That is what I do ^.^
