[Q] Samsung Focus lock screen issues - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I usually have to press the lock button twice to lock or unlock the screen.
Does this happen to anyone else?

I dont think the button is wearing out, I think its how its suppose to work, I have a Samsung Focus 1.3 and it needs to clicks to wake up from when I click the button to turn it off. However when it shuts off on its own, I only need one click to wake it up.
I did test this for about a week because I never noticed until I saw this post about a week ago.

Does Froyo fix the button lights timeout issue?

Does anyone with Froyo know if there is a new timeout adjustment for the bottom button lights? I cannot believe that this would not be fixed. It's the single most annoying thing about the phone. Even aside from the problem of the lights going out after like 3 seconds, they don't even light up when you hit the power button to wake up the phone! How dumb is that? My GPS is fine. I want a button light fix!

Unfortunately not.
Haven't you gotten used to it by now? It was annoying for me for the first week. Now, I could press any of those keys with my eyes closed.

Have you tried looking in various settings databases on the device itself?

Yeah, I know where the buttons are without looking, but if you hit them with the tip of your finger, you have to hit them right in the center. In the dark, I end up missing 1 in 4 times. If they were lit up like it should be, I'd never miss them. Since those buttons are used so much, it's just ridiculous that they aren't lit up the same time as the screen, or at least have a setting for them. To me, it's the worst design flaw of the phone, and actually, for me, it's really the only flaw. Since it wasn't fixed, I'm guessing the lights aren't tied to the OS. Maybe it's tied directly to the hardware, which would really suck.

I looked through all of the settings. I don't have Froyo, but climber1872000 said there's no setting for it.

Anyone elses power button being a pain in the ass?

I've found that after only 3 weeks of getting my Thunderbolt that the power/lock screen button has gotten harder and harder to press. I have to literally mash the damn thing down for it to react. Anyone else experiencing some of the same issues?
is your power button sunk in on one side ?

I haven't experienced this issue (yet) but I've heard of it happening to others. To make a few suggestions on how not to use the power button as much:
Download a widget that will reboot your phone from your home screen
Download a widget to shut down your phone
Set the screen timeout to a short length so that after inactive use for a short period, the screen will shut itself off
If you go this route, you should avoid having to use the power button as much.
i have had mine for like 2 months now and it is still really easy to press, yay for cases

If you're rooted, Quick Boot app from the Market does this, as well as permitting you to boot directly into Recovery.

Yes, this is a way.
There is a lot of way to wake up the phone, for example you can flash a kernel with Touch Wake support (just touch the screen to wake the phone).

yea, but with touchwake youre phone never goes into sleep(not good for battery life). its awake, just the screen is off. plus you cant keep it in your pocket with touchwake, youll just end up turning the screen on.

Why? Nexus s has a capacitive screen, so if you don't touch it with your fingers or with something that's an electrical conductor, the screen shouldn't turn on...am I wrong?

i would think so too, but..

You can check al_madd's guide on Nexus S with Power button broken:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524858
You can call your phone, then it will wake up

You always need another phone only to wake up your nexus s.

Screen wont turn on

Out of the blue - or so it seems - my screen will no longer turn on.
I was listening to music and pushed the power button to change the station and the screen would not turn on.
When I push and hold the power button the phone will vibrate briefly, indicating that the shortcut menu to reboot/ mute the phone has come up, just that the screen remains black.
When I try calling myself the screen will not turn on nor will the phone ring.
When I plug the USB cable into the phone, the screen remains black instead of turning on like it normally would.
The screen will turn on randomly on the rare occasion, but the screen wont respond to touch.
Help!
Sounds like a good candidate for rma

Not sure that will fly Google. I dont believe there is a warranty beyond the 30 days you have for return. Worth a try though!

what app were you using to listen to music with? and why would you press the power button to change the station?
OP give more details about your phone. is it unlocked/rooted or custom Rom? Google replaces unlocked/ re-locked phones anyways, I think it wouldn't hurt to reflash stock image.

Spotify. And I wasn't pushing the power button to change the station, I pushed the power button to turn the phone on so that I could change the station. There is not much interaction possible while the screen is turned off
With any luck it wont happen again. Although I dont normally rely on luck much.

Just FYI, the problem stopped after flashing a new ROM and Kernel (from Franco's Kernel to Cyanogenmod Kernel). Been running Cyanogenmod for a few weeks now and I haven't had the problem since.

I think the issue isn't with third party apps its with Android itself
Android OEMS such as Samsung,LG and HTC, Sony have all this fixed
I own a LG G2 and a Samsung Galaxy s4 and both are on 4.4.2 and they always respond when I wake the screen
my Nexus 5 on the other hand 100% stock with the same app's loaded has troubles and requires a reboot atleast twice per week

Press Unlock / Phone goes right back to sleep.

I've got a problem. Same problem I had on my G2 and I ended up getting rid of the G2.
For some strange reason at times when I press the button on the back to unlock/wake the phone the screen comes on and it goes RIGHT BACK to sleep.
At first it seemed like it was when my hand is touching the top of the phone but this morning I couldn't duplicate it on command.
Any clue whats happening?
I know this isn't any help to you, but I am seeing the same behavior. It took me 5 minutes to get the phone to unlock last night. If anyone has any ideas on this please help! Thank you in advance.

No it can be anytime. Usually if a finger is on the top of the phone but not always there and not every time it there.
Its weird.
The only thing that I can think of is the feature they use with the sensors next to the camera on the front. If your phone is in your pocket and the power button is pressed the screen will shut back off. You can test it by holding your hand over the proximity next to the camera. Then press power.
I know I mess up when I disconnect my phone from the power cord in the morning. The phone's screen automatically comes on when you unplug it, but I have a habit of trying to turn the screen on myself. What happens is that the phone automatically turns the screen on, and my actions immediately turn it off again.
I realize this probably isn't the same issue that some of you are facing, but it does annoy me!
