MDNIE Hardcore Sharpness Fix - Galaxy S 4 General

Ok Guys i have a Question.
How u implent this Screen Fix? Is it Kernel Based?
Since all the Galaxy Devices was able to get Hardcore Sharpness Tweaks(MDNIE FIX), Im curious about the Galaxy S4 to get it too?
Because it has a Snapdragon Processor, which is not dev friendly...
Thanks

First of all, Snapdragon is more dev-friendly than Exynos.
Secondly, it's not dependent on SOC support.
Finally, yes it will definitely get the sharpness fix from Kernel Developers.

how much sharper does it need to be ?

It's actually the other way. De-sharpening.

You want to sharpen what exactly?

The 5 inch 1080p screen.

I need confirmation from a coder that mdnie fix is not kernel based.
Believe me qualcomm only give drivers but u cant modify the kernel like exynos or tegra

trolol and awayyy!! Expect typos this is my phone.

Why is anyone worrying about screen mods on a screen we haven't used before.

Not true. Perseus kernel for SGSIII/SGNII Exynos version has excellent color calibration setting and even pre-calibrated values. Screen looks really nice with this kernel.

If SGS4's Adobe RGB mode is really calibrated then most likely we won't need any color setting hacks. As for de-sharpening - we will see when SGS4 will appear in stores.

It artificial sharpens the screen to make it look even sharper.

[DEV] Petition to Dev's Adreno related.

Hi, mates. I've been searching around Adreno libraries over Jelly Bean. I did notice that our Sensations doens't have same graphics than other phones. The Adreno 220 is very capable to do so, playing games with full graphics. The proof is here-->
This is the US T-Mobile version of the acclaimed Samsung Galaxy S2. What's its hardware? Snapdragon S3 processor at 1.2 and Adreno 220. Why can it move games at highest quality while our phone runs, for example, Most Wanted at low graphics level?
Here I send you a link to SGS2 (SGH-T989 model) xda forum related to new Adreno JB drivers. I hope you devs can help to investigate this.

Are they the latest ones? Then... why T-Mobile SGS2 can hadle that game, for example, in high details while ours don't? Both have similar specs.
This drivers are from October, not for August like the first ones: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828902 Version V3 (the thread is from August but has been updated). Are the same than the others?

That's NOT MY video. I chose a video from Youtube. I pay my games. So, can we focus on the issue?
I've tried it over Elegancia's ROM. Yea, it's very smooth but i'm talkin about smoothness but graphics.
the framerate in that video is unplayable low.
Although it shouldn't really matter, they do use different SoC's than our Sensation (APQ8060 vs MSM8260). But like I said, that shouldn't matter cause I believe they are exactly the same except for the modem/connectivity (APQ8060 doesn't include a modem on the SoC).
But still, that video you posted shows that the Galaxy S2 API8060 can _not_ run the game.. so why should ours?
How can there be new drivers?
I have checked on the Qualcomm site and the latest drivers are still the 1 Aug early sample.

maybe the guy who made the video used a patch to get better graphic, you can search for it in xda but I read something that not compatible with sense 3.6 ...
Ok , the giù in the video use a normal version of most wanted. He only have downloaded it. No mod, inside that apk. You can try searching in the sgII forum, for a mod or something different, or you could see which us the screen density of sgII maybe is different.

That's the point. As far as I know, TMOUS SGSII's screen resolution is lower than our sensation's. Anyway, at least in Nenamark2 the performance of the two is almost the same. I don't think our phone does that bad. Anyway, the framerate in the video is not really high.

But I'm talking about graphics level, not performance. Water in road, complete reflections, better shadows and textures... The ramerate on that video isn't high because he's using a videocapture program that reduces framerate.

Quick questions about One S

Need some quick help to decide between One S and 8X for someone on a Vodafone contract.
- does the OneS record 1080p video at 24fps like the OneX, or is there true 30fps?
- what are the differences between the standard and the "C2" model of the OneS?
- how is the 4.1.1 update for the device? visible improvements in battery/performance?
thanks!

The C2 model has an S3 CPU. The 'standard' has the S4 CPU. The S4 is much more desirable as it is faster, runs cooler, uses less power, and (if you care abou such things) has way more community support.

Em how? fps is crap on mine.
thx @ all, how can i recognize a C2 device from the original package?
from specs i see C2 (with S3 cpu) has 1.7Ghz while standard S4 (krait) has 1.5GHz
so if i see 1.5ghz on the box, it's the standard (better) one?
i had the OneX myself and loved it, swapped it with an iphone 4S out of pure economic reasons, but i remember it recorded 1080p at 24fps/~10mbps which was a bit crappy for bigscreen
on the device itself it was fine bitrate wise, but the FPS drove me nuts.
The 8X has 30fps, tested it in store today, it's very smooth.
I'm torn between those 2 devices now
btw i read the C2 didn't get the 4.1 JB update, is it true? will it ever get it?
Yes, look at the box. The model number for the S4 is Z520. S3 is Z560 i think.
And CPU Speed is as you said. You want the one with 1.5Ghz

Nothing wrong with the S3 model, if there was an S5 model the same people ^ would be saying the S4 was crap. My S3 was an import and considerably cheaper than the price charged locally. I'm very happy with it, good battery life, responsive, bright screen with great colours and it makes phone calls too!
Of course there are differences if you stack the phones side by side and run benchmarks but in day to day use you would never notice them. To find out which you have go to About Phone and look at Hardware information, If your processor says 1.5GHz you have an S4, if 1.7GHz you have an S3.

Obviously, since the S4 would be crap compared to the S5. Just as the S3 is crap compared to the S4.
But the biggest issue with the S3 isnt its hardware - its the custom rom/kernel scene thats the biggest issue.
At the moment the S3 is more like "what you see is what you get", while the S4 is "what you see is just a fraction of what you can get".
Also, ICS doesnt list the CPU Speed in the hardware info field. Maybe JB does, I dont know, but ICS does NOT.
Just thought Id point that out

A matter of perspective, when I buy a phone I look at the specs for what it has, not what I can turn it into. I've never flashed a rom yet that made spectacular differences to a device and to my mind flashing is only of use to upgrade a device that's older and not getting official updates.

Performance is better, as in it scores better in benchmark tests, not something I really notice in every day usage though.
Battery life is better for me, if I don't use the powersave option. Also having setcpu (or something similar) installed helps.

Exynos UI Snappier than S600 or placebo effect?

After seeing dozens of vids i started to notice in Russians vids (Exynos Version) UI transitions seems to be more snappier than vids using S600 version.
In russians vids all in S4 seems pretty smooth and fast (like here and other vids: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ymXQHSxOh4).
In s600 vids seemed to me have seen something clawing here and there.
Someone more have notice this or is just a placebo effect i have.
Thx.
I'm dying to see 2 versions face to face.

Placebo it's probably using the a7s anyway when UI browsing

That may be true, but the GPU is more power full so it could be faster due to that. I don't know, they both look good to me.
Also dont know, as i said after seeing many videos I found myself looking preferably Russians videos because what i saw in their S4 screens looks better to me than no Russians vids, although in beginning didnt associated they use Exynos version.
I hope is placebo effect because here we only have S600 version....arrhhhh SAM.
wish it could've been subtitled. I couldn't understand at all.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
It's possible. Neither has the final SW out and Samsung has been working on the Exynos version before they realized they'll need the Snapdragon to meet all the demand. How quickly they managed to adapt with all features to a different SoC only means they'll improve it further upon launch and then some, but I can't say I've seen any lag on either version in videos.
The only thing's bothering me is the home button lag cause it waits for double input, can you turn it off?
Also, is there a way to make AirView pop-ups instantaneous like mouse hover instead of waiting a second over the content?

The Adreno 320 should be similar performance to the SGX544MP3 on the Exynos. Both of the chips GPU are clocked higher than stock, we know the SGX544MP3 is at 533Mhz. Plus in theory the Adreno 320 still should perform better due to better intergration in the GPU. The Adreno 320 has more to offer than the SGX544MP3 in the long run such as OpenGL 3.0 and Open CL 1.0, which should make the UI smoother.
Anyways, I won't be surprised in the Exynos version is more optimized, the A7 CPU is a lot slower than the Snapdragon 600, so they'll have to make it optimize for the Exynos chip than the S600.
With 2 GBs of RAM, who knows how many things are running and what is on the priority list. Those are things we don't get to see in these videos.
I wonder if lets say having 5 memory intensive apps open would bog down the CPU priority list and slow the device down a bit.
First comparative says the Octa version delivers 10% better benchmark performance to the Snapdragon 600 variant
......
and better battery life.

It's possible to use 120 fps on nexus 5 (well, on the hardware side) The problem is that the drivers assigned to this are closed source.
Somebody seem to have managed to get a working driver with 120fps support. But it seems that it would need a custom camera app to get it working :/

Just wondering if the 855 plus is just a overclocked version of the standard 855 and if we can overclock the CPU and mainly GPU to match it?
Yeah, coz the standard 855 is not fast enough, right? Not worth the trouble IMO for a few percent extra speed...

Yes, from what I'm reading 855 and 855+ are the same except for CPU and GPU speeds.
You can use a custom kernel to overclock to the same speeds (if not better).
However, because this phone already runs everything perfectly it might not even be worth it considering unlocking bootloader, wiping data, increased battery drain from the boost, potential issues.
All of my games run at the framerate cap on stock anyway.
Just wanted to know if we still have the most powerful Android phone in the world lol at least until the 865 comes out next year.
Lol, it's still faster than a speeding bullet!
In my opinion, 6GB of Ram + Snapdragon 835 is still handle everything very good (at least for next 1-2 year)! So 855+ is a P.R trick and quite a waste!
By the way, i think the thread is in wrong section, it should be in "Discussion" !

Well, the first phone with the 855+ AND a software which is efficient like OOS will be very slightly faster than our OP7Pro.

Custom kernels will not allow overclock.
They have moved clock control.

What does it matter?
Does it do everything you want already that fast? Benchmarks dont make a phone, people need to get out of this mindset fast.

Most don't need 12gb of ram. 3 is enough for most people. Or 256 gb of storage . But it's nice to have the hp under the hood even if you don't use it.

Maybe for CPU but you can OC the GPU

What is "moved clock control"?
I've never seen a custom kernel that can't overclock.
Did Oneplus change it so that it cannot be overclocked?

From what I understand it's not oneplus it's Qualcomm that made it so you can't over clock cpu.

Oh that's good to know. I prefer GPU clock access anyways .
The 855+ only has a 3% CPU overclock
The GPU overclock is 15% but SmurfKernel can do more than a 30% overclock on our device

That's unreal. So many possibilities with this phone!
3dMark with the EX 1.12 kernel 675mhz GPU. I haven't tried with gaming mode though. Score was 5932.
Is it possible OC Snapdragon 855 GPU to match the upcoming 865 ?

Can't tell until we know the benchmark scores of the 865
