Is samung good to buy (s4) - General Questions and Answers

I am in confusion because I want to buy a new phone and I have three choices galaxy S4, htc one and xperia z...
I know their specifications on the paper..but never used...
Gs4 looks best on paper...but it is running on exynos processor and exynos is not open source..and not devloper friendly and I have heard that samsung doesnt has build quality... I have seen that many people broke their s2 and s3 from falling..and what about heating effects..
But although It has great features...
And xperia z and htc one has good build quality and they have Qualcomms chip inside them.....
SO WHICH ONE SHOULD I PREFER TO BUY??

The snapdragon 600 that they have is a very powerful one.( even the US, UK variants of s4 will most probably have the same ). Sony seems to be becoming more dev friendly recently. Htc is fine, and yah, Samsung screwing up the whole name they made in the past by making the exynos not so open sourced.
If you prefer dev support, you could get the HTC One or Xperia Z. But I'm sure samsung will take action to resolve this issue. If not, god save samsung. ( probably by closing this down, they are making way for their new tizen OS, and making it completely open source)

IT'S WHAT YOU MAKE OUT OF IT!

AFAIK, s4 is not supported by cfw. Means can't flash cfw.. If that is overcome, I'll buy s4...

That is so ****ed up...and everyone knows how s3 and s2 were broken during falls..and even note 2...so cheap build quality...and same design...and even closed source exynos...I dont kno why so many ppl are pre ordering s4...
It only looks good on paper..
Floating touch concept was stolen from xperia sola...

What are you talking about ? You can break pretty much anything if you drop it. I have a friend with an S3 who drops it multiple times per day (she has talent for it) and there's not even cosmetic damage. I've seen plenty of broken iPhones - just because something is pretty doesn't mean it's going to be more durable. All smartphones are relatively fragile devices - if you're even clumsier than my friend you should think about getting an Otterbox or something.
It's okay to hate Samsung - people for some reason get emotionally attached to things like this. But it's really not a big deal. Just wait until these phones are actually out and see what happens - take some time to use them in a store or something - see what really happens with development.
Something about chickens and counting them relative to date of hatching, man.

No man I dont hate Samsung...
I just want to buy a better device..
All these things are truth...my cousin bought s2...and its heating problem was so high..and I have seen other s2 users who says that they have same overheating problem..
So I was talking about my cousin..his phone was having heating effects..and overheats again and again...within 4 months after buying..it was unable of recognise any sim inside it..
So he finally went to samsung care..and they charged 5000 rupees for repairing that..even this was not enough..one day it fell from only 3 feet height and broke its screen...
So he went again to care centre and they charged 8000 rupees for screen...
And finally he sold it for 12000 rupees..
And there is one more friend of mine who bought s2 and its screen was broken... And got replaced for 8000 rupees...and having still heating effects..
And there were similar problems with s3...
Sent from my MT11i using xda premium

And a lot of my friends are using xperia p, Xperia sola, and all other xperia devices...and some friends are using htc devices..they never had such type of problem..

I would get a Nexus 4, extremely smooth runs on snapdragon. It is developer friendly, and it is really easy to root. For games it is brilliant and there is barely no lag at all. I highly recommend looking into it.

From what ive watched in youtube, it wad like an hybrid of s3 and note 2 if the price is right it is a good buy!!!

Xperia z is also a good option... It has protection against dust..and also water proof..

If you can wait until Google I/O, there may be a new Nexus device or more information on the "Google X" phone.

[Discussion] What would be your next phone after SGR ?

heya guys, i found this thread under LG O2X section n i found it to be very interesting.
this thread will help all of them who are frustrated with their phone while buying a new phone.
ppl can post their requirement or device name that they admire..
i will begin with me..
requirements:
dual core 1ghz+
4.2" screen+
pre ics/jb pack
s amoled screen
internal 8gb+
expandable 32gb+
preferably nexus or flagship devices
Sent from my GT-I9103 using Tapatalk 2
I will get a Galaxy Nexus this week
Sent from my GT-I9103 using xda app-developers app
well i have planned to stick to SGR until it totally breaks
well my requirement is
> atleast dual core SoC with good class GPU (i love gaming)
> screen must be between 4 to 4.5 inches (i hate big phones like note/s3 they are very uncomfortable to carry in pockets)
> screen should be LCD or AMOLED not based on pentile matrix, i prefer LCD as they are having high brightness and great outdoor visibility.
> good dev support
> and main important thing is that SoC is made by companies like TI, Samsung, Snapdragon who releases their proper sources. it will probably wont be having nvidia SoCs.
> next device will be 90% samsung as that phones doesnt comes with locked bootloaders and after rooting we can still claim warranty by just resetting counter and flashing stock rom
I will probably go for Galaxy Nexus 2.
Sent from my GT-I9103 using xda premium
I will be with Royal phone till the time i can receive and make call...
If i failed on previous line, then i will be moving to some windows phone(mostly with windows 8)
90% sure it will be a Nexus.
100% nexus.... while the hardware is often outdated by other flagships the timely updates make up for that..... i can no longer hav a phone that has been promised an update since like ever while everyone else has moved on
Sent from my GT-I9103 using xda app-developers app
A nexus. 100%
Sent from my GT-I9103 using xda app-developers app
Nexus 100 % It says that the next generation of nexus will be produced by several manufacturers and will also be greater choice and probably cheaper
1. Galaxy Nexus
2. HTC...whatever better than One X
3. Samsung Galaxy SIII
4. Maybe Sony. Not sure yet....

my budget still remains the same...
20-25k INR or apprx 400-450usd
Sent from my GT-I9103 using Tapatalk 2
At least for one more year i will stick with our Galaxy R....
My next device will be Nexus or flagship device from Samsung (Lot's of developers will be there, so we will be having lot's of custom ROM's )....
mine will be a sony xperia series.. their camera and music quality is much better even for mid range phone, quicker upgrade and fully supports the dev community...SGR might be my last Samsung phone...
I will never buy nvidia powered device
Unless nvidia supports devs..i won't buy tegra bull****..still we are stuck with gb..i will go for good flagship model by next year by this time.
I'll keep my SGR for one more year no matter it remain stuck on GB. To taste ICS/JB i'd rather buy a tablet..... probably a nexus
Sent from my GT-I9103 using Tapatalk
Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus on my preferred list currently. It shall be Nexus any day here on. No crap from Manufacturers be it flagship or not.
I will preferred Galaxy Nexus 2, but if can be modified then screen quality must be like NOTE 2 & Screen size must be of Galaxy S3 with processor & GPU .
I'll use this one till I can call/text
I like Samsung but won't buy a device which isn't flagship.

Not at all Devs support is really poor there compared to Sammy or HTC. About upgrade Their flagship Xperia S got ICS update couple of months later than S2. (After I sold my SGR I was choosing between HTC One S, Xperia S and Galaxy S2).
About music and especially camera - you're totally right. I guess Xperia has the best camera.

Which phone should I get?

Well, as the title reads, which phone should I get next? My AT&T contract will be fulfilled in the next couple of months so, I've been looking at available AT&T phones. I currently have an HTC Desire Z and I love the size of it - easy to put in and take out of my jeans pocket. Most of the new phones I see are so big they should come with a back pack for them. Can anyone recommend a late model, fast phone that isn't as huge as the HTC One X and Samsung G3? And, please don't say "Iphone".
No offence but they don't sell those phones without camera anymore welcome to 2012 almost 13 everything is big now TV's cellphones etc

I think ~5" is the perfect size for a smartphone - big enough screen to see things and enjoy it, but small enough to still use effectively with one hand.
Honestly, I remember the first cell-phone I ever used and it was WAY bigger.
If you do want something smaller, though - I don't know, I'd probably look at international phones that would work with ATT, or just go into an ATT store or such and look around. The Galaxy S3 Mini is smaller, but I don't know how well it will work on ATT and what you could expect (it lacks LTE, I've heard). It also depends on the performance you're expecting.
have you considered one of those quality Chinese android handsets ?
things like the Newman N1, GooPhone, ZTE V970 etc ?
I think you should go with Galaxy S3. I am also using this phone last some months it's a superb mobile phone bacase it has 4.8 inch Superb Super AMOLED display with saturated colors and high contrast with 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, flash and HD video recording, 4.0 android operating system, Quad-core 1.4 GHz Processor and 2050 mAh battery capacity. You can read full details here:
themobileindian.com/handset-guide/details/Samsung-Galaxy-SIII
Thanks for all the replies! I do plan to look around the AT&T store but sometimes its a little overwhelming when I start diving into the specs for every phone.
I was not aware of the "quality" made chinese phones; I may look into that.
Thanks again for the help and if there are anymore recommendations please, keep them coming.

Well i have an s3 and a note 2 but i gotta say the new iphone 5 is the best it beats most droid phones.

Getting my kid a new phone for Christmas (she has my old Droid X). Was contemplating an IPhone, soley because of the incredible speech-to-text features (something my Bionic is woefully poor at) Sales dude at Verizon showed me what a Samsung can do in that realm....was utterly impressed....no diference from the 'Sirry' IPhone thing (apparently it hinges on a google service)
what's your budget? Desire z is mid range so if your budget is about the same then look at Galaxy S2.
Budget will be determined by AT&T having a phone I will settle with on a contract extension so, I guess my budget will be $200~300.

Best phone on the market at the minute (*arguably*) is the ASUS Padfone 2.. but sadly it isn't available in the US (no US release date mentioned yet either).. so would probably say the LTE version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 would be a contender..
I'm not really looking at the IPhone 5 but will the IPhone 5 sync with my google contacts and google calendar? That's one thing I really like about the android phones. From my research the iphone 5 can be made to sync with all my google stuff but how effective/accurate is it? Are there any bugs or issues with this?

I just took the Huawei U8836d shine and i'm very happy with it. Changed the stock rom to custom and has great battery life than other chinese brands. Great design. gorilla glass and sturdy materials plus very thin and comfortable. Check it out.
I recommend Samsung Galaxy Note II , it's really amazing phone very fast , smooth and got the latest Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean

Galaxy Ace for your Preffered Size
I would Suggest to go for Samsung Galaxy Ace or You can Opt for Huawei Ascend.
I will suggest you to don't go for small screen size as 2013 will be the Year of Big Screens so if you are willing then go for Note II you will love it and Also will get use to its Big Size.

Will you be getting the Samsung Galaxy S4?

I'm not extremely excited about the design but the octa-core processor in combination with 2GB RAM sounds like music in my ears, although i'm disappointed that TouchWiz is basically the same, but my Galaxy SII contract is ending soon and I might be willing to pay a little more to get the S4.

I would love to get the S4 since I have S2, so its a reasonable upgrade.
I doubt it. I have the S3 so I will probably wait until the "SV" or until the S3 starts to feel old and unable to do what I want it to do.

Now only question is, International octa core versiob minus the lte or a quad core snapdragon us version. I opted for the international version for the gs3

Nah. As a TMO user who enjoys the International/World phones: Galaxy S4 news was a disappointment. Was really hoping Samsung would've stuck with just 1 phone especially for us who enjoy Samsung using Wolfson DACs in their phones instead of mediocre Qualcomm SoCs. Their desire to constantly do yearly releases with little benefits is wasteful. They should've just stuck to promoting the S3 alongside software updates until they really have a good product on their hand.

Samsung never...
It doesn't have good build quality and manufacturers dont give what they are promising
..I have personally experienced that with s2 and I know my friends who got broke note 2 just by falling from 2 feet...
And one more thing exynos processors they are closed source..which means not devloper friendly..
Custom roms has too many bugs..and they r using octacore word just for attracting more people

After using HTC for the last couple of years I really hate phones that feel cheap. The plastic quality build of Samsung phones makes me stay away from them. And I'm not a fan of TouchWiz at all.

The S3 has been my first Samsung device and I would definitely have no problems recommending Samsung to other people. As far as the S4 goes, my feelings are a little mixed. I very much like the specs on the phone, but I don't think I want to own another device which is subject to delayed updates (both manufacturer and carrier side). Having a Nexus 7, I think I'm going to stick with Nexus devices going forward.

I wouldn't worry about the custom rom aspect of the S4. If there's a way to tweak it, the devs on this site will find a way, guaranteed. I Ann looking to upgrade as well. Super happy with my E4GT from Sammy, will most likely get the 4. Just my thoughts. Hope it helps you.

Byebye samsung.

After having the s1, s2, s3 and now s4 also a note 2 i have come to the conclusion i hate samsung and their money grabbing and lack of support. This has been an issue across all the phones iv had from them. My current s4 heats up all the time so much lag across the various dynamics of the phone. And i havent even rooted this phone for a change.

Why don't you just install GE? After installing stock Android I couldn't be happier with my phone (screen is gorgeous and performance is great). :good: HTC One is also a great phone, but if I were you I'd just make do with the GE rom for now and then switch to the Nexus 5 in a month or so.
Adios

Of course heats is a big problem!
but you should try uninstall Chrome and S voice.
Also i suggest u use a third party rom
that will be much better!!
Ive been through the latter of various roms and kernals but decided to stay stock with the s4 and man have i noticed the bloat slowing things down. But yeah dude the heat was enough for me to call my carrier explain the issue and they were more than happy to replace like for like or i could completly change so the htc had my attention.
I know nexus 5 is due but iv never been a big fan of standalone roms from the GE variants i do enjoy some bloat apps to which i genuinely use. But sammybhas just gotten too big for their boots in my opinion so im jumping ship so to speak lol. I had the choice of note 3 but do i really want spend an uneccesary £100 for the latest smartphone which is from Samsung yet again. Too many variants and not enough support.
Il always be milling around various forums the s2 s3 and note 2 are still in action running custom roms wife and kids totally unaware of course :screwy: but my time is done cheers guys for those i have made friends with in the sammy forums.

Camera sucks, I had light leak on my second replacement device after the first one had a bad battery, bad battery life I can barely make it to 4:30 pm from 8 am, dead and stuck pixels on the new one after about a week of use and thats all I can remember for now but needless to say I am happily back with another s4 and soon to have a note 3
