Is samsung device good to buy - General Topics

I am in confusion because I want to buy a new phone and I have three choices galaxy S4, htc one and xperia z...
I know their specifications on the paper..but never used...
Gs4 looks best on paper...but it is running on exynos processor and exynos is not open source..and not devloper friendly and I have heard that samsung doesnt has build quality... I have seen that many people broke their s2 and s3 from falling..and what about heating effects..

SO WHICH ONE SHOULD I PREFER TO BUY??

Galaxy S4 is so amazing.. my choice is S4

So tell me what is good in s4
Sent from my MT11i using xda premium

The S3 has been my first Samsung device and I would definitely have no problems recommending Samsung to other people. As far as the S4 goes, my feelings are a little mixed. I very much like the specs on the phone, but I don't think I want to own another device which is subject to delayed updates (both manufacturer and carrier side). Having a Nexus 7, I think I'm going to stick with Nexus devices going forward.

Did ur device fall or something like that...
A lot of ppl were complaining that their device fall and screen has been broken
Sent from my MT11i using xda premium

What about custom roms I had heard that since exynos is closed source so its custom roms r buggy
Sent from my MT11i using xda premium

I wouldn't worry about the custom rom aspect of the S4. If there's a way to tweak it, the devs on this site will find a way, guaranteed. I Ann looking to upgrade as well. Super happy with my E4GT from Sammy, will most likely get the 4. Just my thoughts. Hope it helps you.

I don't think it's just Samsung devices. There're going to have more broken screens, since they have sold so many devices. It's just a number game. I'm sure you can say the same for Apple owners...

Xperia z has a moderate display and camera....... Htc one can't replace the real beast(s4)
I hate my X and love my Next.......... Conditions apply*

Next nexus.Who do you want it from?

Yep guyz.as title says.vote on
although i prefer HTC as a manufacturer i voted for Motorola because i want Google to give every manufacturer the chance to release a nexus phone.
since HTC did the first one i now want a Nexus Moto.
I'd say HTC, because ever since the Nexus S they're plastic-y while the One has an aluminium unibody.
Apple...
J/K....
Nokia! Lumia 900 with Android (a dream!) in white gorgeous!
...
HTC! Prefer their designs and would love to see them make a Nexus.
to be honest, an apple on the oustide, Android on the inside phone wouldnt be half bad haha
but id say either Moto or Samsung
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
I voted for Motorola. I agree it would be need for Google to give everyone a chance at it. But them choosing Motorola for the next one might not be well-received because it could be seen as them playing favorites.
I have had all 4 nexus/dev phones (HTC Dream, Nexus One, Nexus S, and the Galaxy Nexus)
The HTC phones blow the samsung ones out of the water. FYI, as an active xda member I like to think that I know my phones quite well. Samsung in both cases has skimped on thier Nexus phones. Both the SNS and SGN are missing features from the GS and GS2 respectively.
Whereas HTC actually made reference cutting edge phones with the nexus.
I personally want to see either HTC, Moto, or ASUS take on the next nexus phone.
Motorola, Sony, or HTC.

HTC. Motorola never give it to them they just don't listen to the customers so if Google give them the head up on it you just wouldn't get what you wanted out of a phone I am affraid. HTC will but still get a few thing wrong lol

Would prefer a Moto Nexus next, HTC had one, Sammy have two, its time to give the 3rd big boy a go eh?

Hm, I'd prefer multiple Nexii from different manufacturers, for a simple reason: there needs to be more competition as far as the Nexus is concerned, or the sole partner will just slack off.
Plus, this might encourage more stock android, and that's only a good thing.
Sony from looks I jst love the new design of the Xperia S and Xperia P. But I would prefer HTC from the phone's heart.
My vote goes to motorola, in hopes that google might do something awesome with it. If not, HTC all the way.
HTC I never cared for the last few nexus phones no sd card on the galaxy nexus is a deal breaker for a lot of people also they should release it for all there carriers at once I think me next phone will be the nexus if they get it right

[Off-Topic] LG Optimus Nexus?

So I hear that multiple manufacturers will be given the chance to release their own their own versions of the Google nexus. So far I've heard of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 2, the Sony Xperia Nexus, and the LG Optimus Nexus. If that's the case, and let's say HTC and Motorola also make a nexus, what would you guys go for? What do you guys be hoping for in specs and pricing? How would you feel about LG pushing out a nexus?
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda app-developers app
Sony Xperia Nexus
AFAIK, next Nexus will be Samsung, Sony and LG only.
I've got O3D ONLY because 3D, else I'd never got an LG, so I would pick up Sony, maybe Motorola if they make one, though seems they don't.
LG never again, even if it's Nexus.
What would make the Sony nexus favorable?
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda app-developers app
I would also go for a Sony Nexus.
In the past year Sony really pushed their (lost) reputation. They gave the developers the libraries the needed and also supported them (unlocking the bootloader). They are also updating their products. Sony is definetly a good alternative choice to Samsung, which is kinda mainstream.
Sony Nexus
How do you guys feel about sony's build quality and specs? I've never really dealt with or seen them much. How do they compare to Samsung?

i would go for a motorola nexus
but if only samsung, lg, and sony gonna make nexus phones...i would be lost between sony and lg(if sony made it right)... as i don't like the build/feel of the samsung phones
besides with a nexus lg we don't have to worry about late updates
about sony phones...their build quality is good (used an xperia s for a little while)....but i think they are still late in the chipset department
in 2011...companies made dual core phones...while all sony erisson phones were single core
and even in 2012..they had dual cores while other have quad(but to tell the truth...moto is with them too on this one)...but the real problem is their flagship device is using s3 chipset..that's the only reason i don't prefer their devices...hopefully they change that with the nexus

If HTC made one, I would most definitely get it if it had the same screen as the one x. Samsung? Maybe. Motorola? I haven't been much of a fan of their designs lately but they know how to ramp up their batteries. LG? They'd have to blow me away. Sony is the only one I'm on the fence about.

i dunno...but imo it will be like this :
htc > sony >moto = samsung >lg (from the most expensive to the cheapest.of course im talking about unlocked ones)
but...if they wanna do this right..they should have somewhat lower prices than their usual prices...i think if they price them right with good specs and the fact they are nexus phones...which means we'll guarantee the next 2 updates...and the fact that now we have the liberty to choose the nexus of our fav manufacture...will be the most successful thing ever happened in android..at least that's what i think
take for example the nexus 7..good price..good specs...nexus device
and its selling really well and its popular now even though its not available everywhere yet

yeah indeed i was just gonna talk about it too
the S4 Pro chipset is the one i was waiting to see on a device this year...and looks like LG is the gonna be the one to do it.
its gonna be called optimus g i think
we will know all about it in the next few days anyway (as it will be announced at IFA...or thats what i read)
the only thing would stop me from getting it is the software updates and support...unless it managed to be popular here on xda...and got all the custom roms like SIII(it could actually happen though...im sure many people want that s4 pro chipset)
EDIT: the phone is announced here's the link:

Well the galaxy nexus started at $400 but it's now $350 so I'd imagine that Samsung's will be either. I'm hoping they're all around that price range. I'm wondering if they'll all have their own perks or if they'll all be similar and just under different labels.

Which phone should I get?

Well, as the title reads, which phone should I get next? My AT&T contract will be fulfilled in the next couple of months so, I've been looking at available AT&T phones. I currently have an HTC Desire Z and I love the size of it - easy to put in and take out of my jeans pocket. Most of the new phones I see are so big they should come with a back pack for them. Can anyone recommend a late model, fast phone that isn't as huge as the HTC One X and Samsung G3? And, please don't say "Iphone".
No offence but they don't sell those phones without camera anymore welcome to 2012 almost 13 everything is big now TV's cellphones etc

I think ~5" is the perfect size for a smartphone - big enough screen to see things and enjoy it, but small enough to still use effectively with one hand.
Honestly, I remember the first cell-phone I ever used and it was WAY bigger.
If you do want something smaller, though - I don't know, I'd probably look at international phones that would work with ATT, or just go into an ATT store or such and look around. The Galaxy S3 Mini is smaller, but I don't know how well it will work on ATT and what you could expect (it lacks LTE, I've heard). It also depends on the performance you're expecting.
have you considered one of those quality Chinese android handsets ?
things like the Newman N1, GooPhone, ZTE V970 etc ?
I think you should go with Galaxy S3. I am also using this phone last some months it's a superb mobile phone bacase it has 4.8 inch Superb Super AMOLED display with saturated colors and high contrast with 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, flash and HD video recording, 4.0 android operating system, Quad-core 1.4 GHz Processor and 2050 mAh battery capacity. You can read full details here:
themobileindian.com/handset-guide/details/Samsung-Galaxy-SIII
Thanks for all the replies! I do plan to look around the AT&T store but sometimes its a little overwhelming when I start diving into the specs for every phone.
I was not aware of the "quality" made chinese phones; I may look into that.
Thanks again for the help and if there are anymore recommendations please, keep them coming.

Getting my kid a new phone for Christmas (she has my old Droid X). Was contemplating an IPhone, soley because of the incredible speech-to-text features (something my Bionic is woefully poor at) Sales dude at Verizon showed me what a Samsung can do in that realm....was utterly impressed....no diference from the 'Sirry' IPhone thing (apparently it hinges on a google service)
what's your budget? Desire z is mid range so if your budget is about the same then look at Galaxy S2.
Budget will be determined by AT&T having a phone I will settle with on a contract extension so, I guess my budget will be $200~300.

Best phone on the market at the minute (*arguably*) is the ASUS Padfone 2.. but sadly it isn't available in the US (no US release date mentioned yet either).. so would probably say the LTE version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 would be a contender..
I'm not really looking at the IPhone 5 but will the IPhone 5 sync with my google contacts and google calendar? That's one thing I really like about the android phones. From my research the iphone 5 can be made to sync with all my google stuff but how effective/accurate is it? Are there any bugs or issues with this?

I just took the Huawei U8836d shine and i'm very happy with it. Changed the stock rom to custom and has great battery life than other chinese brands. Great design. gorilla glass and sturdy materials plus very thin and comfortable. Check it out.

I would Suggest to go for Samsung Galaxy Ace or You can Opt for Huawei Ascend.
I will suggest you to don't go for small screen size as 2013 will be the Year of Big Screens so if you are willing then go for Note II you will love it and Also will get use to its Big Size.

I'm not extremely excited about the design but the octa-core processor in combination with 2GB RAM sounds like music in my ears, although i'm disappointed that TouchWiz is basically the same, but my Galaxy SII contract is ending soon and I might be willing to pay a little more to get the S4.

Nah. As a TMO user who enjoys the International/World phones: Galaxy S4 news was a disappointment. Was really hoping Samsung would've stuck with just 1 phone especially for us who enjoy Samsung using Wolfson DACs in their phones instead of mediocre Qualcomm SoCs. Their desire to constantly do yearly releases with little benefits is wasteful. They should've just stuck to promoting the S3 alongside software updates until they really have a good product on their hand.

The snapdragon 600 that they have is a very powerful one.( even the US, UK variants of s4 will most probably have the same ). Sony seems to be becoming more dev friendly recently. Htc is fine, and yah, Samsung screwing up the whole name they made in the past by making the exynos not so open sourced.
If you prefer dev support, you could get the HTC One or Xperia Z. But I'm sure samsung will take action to resolve this issue. If not, god save samsung. ( probably by closing this down, they are making way for their new tizen OS, and making it completely open source)

What are you talking about ? You can break pretty much anything if you drop it. I have a friend with an S3 who drops it multiple times per day (she has talent for it) and there's not even cosmetic damage. I've seen plenty of broken iPhones - just because something is pretty doesn't mean it's going to be more durable. All smartphones are relatively fragile devices - if you're even clumsier than my friend you should think about getting an Otterbox or something.
It's okay to hate Samsung - people for some reason get emotionally attached to things like this. But it's really not a big deal. Just wait until these phones are actually out and see what happens - take some time to use them in a store or something - see what really happens with development.
Something about chickens and counting them relative to date of hatching, man.
No man I dont hate Samsung...
I just want to buy a better device..
All these things are truth...my cousin bought s2...and its heating problem was so high..and I have seen other s2 users who says that they have same overheating problem..
So I was talking about my cousin..his phone was having heating effects..and overheats again and again...within 4 months after buying..it was unable of recognise any sim inside it..
So he finally went to samsung care..and they charged 5000 rupees for repairing that..even this was not enough..one day it fell from only 3 feet height and broke its screen...
So he went again to care centre and they charged 8000 rupees for screen...
And finally he sold it for 12000 rupees..
And there is one more friend of mine who bought s2 and its screen was broken... And got replaced for 8000 rupees...and having still heating effects..
And there were similar problems with s3...
