One-X with old Cyanogen 10.0 (hboot 1.14) back to stock - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I can not find my backup to this. I flashed this one-x last year with 10.0 after using the old rootkit exploit tool.
So in the bootloader it shows :

I tried to flash 10.1 cyanogen and after the the boot loop I found out I need newer version of hboot. But to get newer version of hboot apparently I have to get the phone back to stock and do the OTA update? I flashed this back before the jellybean ota rolled out. I cant seem to find my backup either.
Can someone help me with step-by-step guide on what I need to do to get this back to stock?

You don't need a different hboot, you need s-off. What's going on is that you need to fastboot flash the boot.img with that hboot. With s-off, that restriction goes away.

I hate suggesting S-OFF to everyone as it makes everything easily writeable which can be dangerous for many people -_-
But yes you can S-OFF or just fastboot flash boot boot.img from the rom you're flashing. If you're not going to be flashing often, or if you are afraid you may accidentally flash the wrong thing and brick this option does work.

So S-OFF and then "fastboot flash boot boot.img" after extracting the boot.img from the 10.1 cyanogen mod?
Or just extract the boot.img from 10.1 cyanogen and then fastboot flash boot boot.img"?
And if I wanted to get it back to stock, couldnt I just download and run this from the HTC site - htc_one_x_RUU_2.20.502.7_att_us_08022012.exe ?

Bit of a mess really. Any ideas?
If you've installed CWM for a different phone and wiped, then you're lucky it still works at all.
Install the right version of CWM right now.

It appears that you are HTC Dev unlocked. Because of that you will have to flash the boot.img via fastboot commands. Go to this guide to learn
how to do it.
But your Hboot version is supported by Revolutionary so I suggest you re lock your bootloader and then use Revolutionary to S-off your device before flashing the 3.32 firmware you will have to flash for any ICS ROM. Cause without you being S-off you will not be able to revert your firmware version. Plus if you are S-off your recovery can flash everything and you will not have to use fastboot to or Smart flash option in 4EXT.
I'm surprised your phone still works after using the One X method to root; considering the One X is a different phone.
Here the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 for reference to S-Off and stuff. I recommend you change you change your CID to 11111111 as well.
Change your recovery to 4EXT. Better in my perspective.
Firstly, thank you Rusty!, T-Macgnolia and You_got_owned123.
So, I've downloaded 4EXT recovery and will flash it and I understand that I need to be S-OFF before I can flash new firmware and if I change to Super CID I can flash any carriers firmware. But.... I need to be able to boot the phone to enable HTC Sync to run Revolution. Or is there a way to run it in Fastboot usb?
As soon as I achieved S-OFF I can change to SuperCID.
BOOM!
Okay... so, I flashed 4EXT recovery (which is much better that ClockworkMod) then flashed a Gingerbread ROM (Android_Revolution_HD-Sensation_3.6.13) as it was compatible with my existing firmware and flashed the boot.img for the 1.56 kernel then used Revolutionary tool to achieve S-OFF so I could flash an ICS ROM (Sensation_3.32.401.5_odexed), GAPPS and update the firmware. I didn't SuperCID as I knew the firmware was compatible but may do that later while it's fresh in my mind.
That wasn't so hard, phew!!!

Haha, good job. Just make sure you use the approperiate firmware when flashing ICS ROMS. ICS require a different firmware than GB does.

RUU Questions

I have a phone that I got which was locked to Telus, the root was messed up. I want to flash a RUU so I can update to the latest OS. I get that "developer red text" with the HTC logo in recovery.

is that the correct file?

Also since my phone is on Fido(I got a sim unlock) I get no data. Could I flash to a Rogers RUU? Because Rogers and Fido are literally the same company, I got Rogers connection all the time on my iPhone. Would this work or would it mess everything up?

Thanks
Those "tampered"and "unlocked" messages in bootloader are completely normal. That means you can now flash a custom recovery, and then from that recovery you can flash a custom ROM.
If you want to RUU for some reason, you'll probably want to s-off first. If you have SuperCID and are s-on, running an RUU could brick your phone.

My phone isn't rooted, I tried to flash a recovery file but that's when it messed up. I get the HTC logo and red text that says "This build is for development purposes only do not distribute outside of HTC without HTC's permission".
I cant get to the CWM from recovery. I also cant upgrade my OS from the phone itself I get that red text error and its just frozen there until I reboot the phone.
I relocked the bootloader and it now has a security warning thing.

The security warning thing went away now but I ran:
fastboot getvar cid
and got cid: TELUS001
Could I flash the Telus RUU now? Also if I got SuperCID and S-Off could I flash the Rogers RUU? Would that even give me data back?
Your CID is fine, and because you have relocked your bootloader you should be ok to run the RUU.
Have you triple checked that your apn settings are correct? That's usually the cause of a loss of data.
Sent from my Evita
No I didn't set that up yet haha that would be the reason why. Just did and it works now!
I'm going to wait for my phone to charge up some more before it run the RUU. Hopefully all goes well, and I can actually get my device properly rooted..
Thank you for your help
Running the RUU won't really help the rooting process. You could just unlock your bootloader again and flash a recovery. Just make sure it's a recovery for this device (Evita) because that may be where you went wrong in the first place.
Sent from my Evita
Alright I downloaded the HTC One X(evita) All-In-One Toolkit
I will follow the steps on there
Do I have to do the Xfactor and MotoChopper steps?
Do you still have the unlock.bin from when you unlocked your phone the first time? It should still work.
Sent from my Evita
Yes I still have the email from HTC and I made a backup of the file as well
I just used that toolkit and went right to the unlock bootloader.
In the bootloader it is now
***Tampered***
***Unlocked***
I flashed TWRP 2.5.0.0 and put the SU files in my main directory
Worked!! Flashed the SU file and phone booted up properly now
You should be able to use it again to unlock your bootloader. Just go back to htcdev and do the last part where you enter the unlock.bin.
Then I recommend flashing TWRP 2.6 recovery from here.
Sent from my Evita
Should I just reflash 2.6 instead then? Do I have to remove anything or can I just flash over top?
Also I'm on 4.0.3 should I update the OS and then flash 2.6?
You can't flash TWRP until you've unlocked your bootloader, so do that first. Then flash TWRP by using the following fastboot commands:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.0-evita.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you can either flash a superuser zip to have root on the stock ROM. Or you can flash a custom ROM.
Sent from my Evita
I got it all to work using the toolkit. I have superuser on my phone now. But I used the 2.5.0.0 file instead.
Do you think its wiser to update my OS and then reflash to 2.6.0.0?
You don't need to update the os, you can flash any ROM you like once you have the correct recovery installed. Just make sure you flash TWRP 2.6, because 2.5 has major bugs.
Sent from my Evita
Alright I flashed 2.6.0.0 now. Is there any custom ROM you would recommend?
Should I run the S-off commands in the toolkit before I flash the custom ROM?
It's against the rules to ask which ROM is best/most stable etc, so it's against the rules for me to answer something like that.
But...
If you're looking for a Sense based rom, look in Android Development section, there you'll find MagioRom (Sense 5), or if you want Sense 4 there's ViperXL, RageXL, and others.
If you're looking for a stock android/aosp ROM, look in Original Android Development. There's a whole bunch of great ROMs in that section, like Cyanogenmod, AOKP, Carbon, Rootbox, Slimbean, etc.
Have a look in the OP (first post) for each ROM, that'll tell you if there are any bugs and a basic rundown of the features, and any requirements you may have to fulfill for the ROM to work. Just find one that suits you best, and if it doesn't, you can just flash another.

Yes I believe that's right. First SuperCID, then s-off, then RUU. Once you've done the RUU, you'll need to reflash TWRP again.

No system, only TWRP with S-on. Major clusterduck!!

Hi all
through a series of stupid actions, I am now in a position where I have TWRP, no working image and S-on. This all stemmed from an attempt to upgrade to CM10.2. Anyway, a lot of reading has led me to the conclusion that I need to go back to a standard RUU in order to set S-off. The problem is my fastboot is 2.15 and I cannot seem to find an RUU anywhere.

Did you flash boot.img in fastboot? If you didn't, you should try it first before you attempt to do S-OFF. To get S-OFF, I would use Rumrunner.

I don't know why you want to s-off but i think you don't have to. If you have twrp you can mount your sd via twrp to a computer, copy any rom you want to the sd, flash boot.img with fastboot from the rom zip and flash rom via twrp. But you should first unlock your bootloader

Thanks both for the replies. I have transferring a boot.img using fastboot, but this just gets me into a never ending boot screen. The boot.img I tried were cm 10.1.2 and then a 10.1.3. I had read that this will not work with S-on, but I am far from an expert. I have tried rumrunner, but this needs adb to work, and from what I gather adb only works when the phone itself is also booted into an OS.
I had tried to get adb working, but I never get any response from adb devices as the phone never gets past the bootloader.
I realise that I don't need S-off to flash a stock ROM, but my problem is that can't find a stock ROM for a 2,15 Hboot. My goal is to install CM 10.2.

Richard
You can not install any boot.img with locked bootloader, you can just ruu back.
If you want to install cm 10.2 unlock your boot loader, download cm10.2, flash boot.img from the downloaded zip and flash cm from recovery. Otherwise you can just ruu back

Hi,
I had tried this, but got into an endless fuzzy blue screen loop. This was because of S-on I believe. I had relocked the bootloader in preparation for an RUU.
I had figured that my best way out of this mess would be to flash a stock ROM, turn S-off and then flash cm

[Q] HELP! Way in over my head... trying to flash recovery.

So I recently purchased the T-Mobile version of the HTC-Sensation... since then I've been trying to flash a custom JellyBean ROM onto my device. I've rooted and flashed custom roms on previous phones but the process for this one has been extremely confusing. I've been mainly following this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1864053 I have the bootloader unlocked and I think I have S-Off, now I'm trying to flash a recovery image with the KSG utility but gives me a bunch of error messages that say FILE NOT FOUND - FASTBOOT.LOG and ACCESS DENIED and FILE NOT FOUND - ABD.LOG. I'm sorry if this is in the forum somewhere, but I've been working on this for hours and I can't figure this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are already s-off ,if you want to flash custom Rom flash 3.33 universal firmware (be careful when flashing check the md5 sum) after that flash 4ext recovery and flash new rom
Edit here is link for 3.33 firmware. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767.

@EmporerD
first you don't need a htc sync..
second your phone is already success s-off..you can see that in your bootloader state..
now i think maybe you already forgot the step to remove temp root from your phone after success s-off process..you can do that by running temp_root_remove.bat from the guide that you follow above..
after you had remove temp root from your phone..then you can continued to flashing a 3.33 firmware.. to do that..
just download firmware file from here....then copied that PG58IMG.zip file to the root directory of your sd card (the root directory mean is don't place it that file in any folder..just place it in your sdcard) you can copied that file with card reader..after that just put in back your sd card to the phone...then boot into bootoader..and wait until bootloader check it that file then ask you to updating it...just confirm it yes with vol up button..then wait until finish and ask you to confirm reboot with press power button..
after that you can continued installing custom recovery..
just download custom recovery.img file from here and extracted that zip file then copied that recovery.img file to your adb/sdk folder (the same place as your adb.exe and fastboot.exe folder)..then you flashing it through FASTBOOT with fastboot command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"..done..now your phone already had a custom recovery..that are can installing any custom rom...
hope this help..
THANKYOU guys. This helps a lot. I'm going to call it a night for a now, but I will try your advice tomorrow and post updates.
@JJeamy
So I tried to remove the temproot by running the temproot-remove batch file, it didn't do anything so I downloaded the PG58IMG.zip and updated it in the bootoader, now phone is stuck in a bootloop...?
Update: I tried to continue with flashing the custom recovery, but the dialog just gets stuck on "waiting for device" ...
Update 2: Installing the older drivers for fixed the problem of flashing the recovery so my recovery works but it's still stuck in bootloop. Unfortunately I will probablyrun out of time before I can get a custom ROM flashed, but thanks everyone for your help I will update my progress later.

You are on the right path my friend you flashed 3.33 firmware so you hboot version is 1.27 that's way you experiance bootloop , because you have gb rom with ics hboot, so next step is to flash custom recovery!
To do that you need to have SDK files downloaded (Fastboot , adb files) and when you have that in the folder you got the files you copy your recovery img and that you open command window from there and you get your phone to fastboot (bootloader that fasboot) , that you write the command in the command window fasboot flash recovery recovery.img and you are done!
EDIT: here is guide how to find fastboot and Adb files you need http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152148
and for flasing custom recovery follow this guide step 2 flashing recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
after that flash rom
and when you flash your first rom do format everything except sd card before flashing, (and make sure the first rom you flash is not kitkat because you may experiance difficulties when flashing)
So I managed to get recovery going, and I flashed CM 11 with 4.4 with no issue. : D

S-ON means you'll have to manually flash the "boot.img" contained in the rom zip via fastboot (Fastboot flash boot boot.img) after you installed the rom via recovery.
