If you care about power and battery, S4 is the way to go.
Customization, Nexus devices. They are simply unbeatable.
You will only want the One, if you really put design and materials as a priority especially the UI.

based on what you have said you definitely should get the gs4
something else you should consider is the software - if you want to use all features, you are pretty much stuck with stock software on both phones - you need to decide which stock software you like more

You want other people to tell you what to buy or do??
At least wait until they are both out, read the facts and make your own mind up

It looks like the Galaxy S IV will be your device then!
The HTC One is tailored to the more design attentive crowd. S IV isn't as pretty and lacks a couple features but the power is definitely there and Samsung will probably have more stable builds of AOSP based ROM's for customization

Why are Nexus devices more customizable? Can't any Android devices be rooted and loaded with custom roms?

Nexus devices are easier to root and unlock the bootloader, and updates are received directly from Google. Although those quick updates come with awful bugs.

Generally the most consumer popular phones will have the largest customizability, it's true that nexus devices are built for devs and are easy to root, but really.. none of the devices you've listed are hard to root.

In this case, S4 is for you.
But not everyone fancy on getting yesterday product, not everyone fancy Samsung follow Apple step, not everyone think design / material not important.

Apparently, quite a few of them do. It would be a lot easier to argue how awful Samsung's formula is if it weren't working so well. No matter what your personal feelings about Samsung or their products are, does anyone here think the SGS4 won't outsell the SGS3?
Samsung Galaxy S Sales Hit 100 Million
By Angela Moscaritolo January 14, 2013
Samsung on Monday announced a major milestone: global sales of its flagship Galaxy S smartphones have hit 100 million units since the first model made its debut in 2010.
The original Galaxy S smartphone, launched in June 2010, has sold some 24 million units to date, with 10 million purchased during the first seven months of launch, Samsung said. The follow-up Galaxy S II, launched in April 2011, reached the 10 million sales mark in just five months, and has logged sales of around 40 million units to date.
The fastest-selling device in the lineup, however, is the Galaxy S III. The uber-popular phone, unveiled this past May, achieved 20 million global sales in just 100 days, and has now passed the 40 million unit sales mark.

Galaxy S, S II & S III was total different design device.
S 4 is just recycle - that the main different here, also this year got more competitor, Xperia Z and HTC One ain't bad and direct compete with S 4.
Ya, S 4 probably still selling well not because it was great, because Samsung got money on marketing. Let said S 4 selling well, continuer S 5, S 6, S 7 and so on will be same/similar design. Is this what you all want? Definitely not for me.

I don't understand why people are saying this, every single technology has been upgraded to the latest thing, or best available at the moment, CPU, memory, camera, screen, battery, added software, added sensors.
What the hell were people expecting? Something that Startrek would be proud of??
The only thing similar is the casing.

Spec and Design run together, not either one.

Compare the 2 together dude. If design, looks, feel, ui doesn't concern you then go for S4. However The battery life on htc is better then s3, hox, iPhone 5 but not quite as good as Note 2.

No. It's AT&T plus T-Mobile. And it's 1 million shipped. Not sold.
But I doubt Verizon and Sprint will sell as many Galaxy as AT&T and T-mobile. Verizon already has a great Android line. Galaxy S for verizon is just ugly.

Well, Rule #1 in this forum (and all the other android forums): any pro-Apple post will be deleted and your account will be suspended!
Quite impressive for Samsung.
Been contemplating this very question for awhile....and also two more:
> How many have been 'sold' worldwide? Id say approx. 2 million but thats just my guess - considering sammy has sold heaps in Korea.
> How many HTC Desire's have been sold worldwide, as this gives a good representation of Sammy's android competition.
One million phones sold? Impressive.
Ah, it seems like yesterday that I was envying Omnia i900 owners for their 3.2in screen, 624Mhz processor, and smooth Windows Mobile performance. Now I own a Galaxy i9000 variant with a 4in SAMOLED, 1Ghz processor, and an Android OS (which wasn't even released yet at the time).
Good times.
Android and Apple can happily coexist. It's true! I even like both platforms despite each of their con's.

I think a lot of people forget about how touch interfaces were before the iPhone. Remember using a stylus? Even though the iPhone isn't for me, I appreciate the push that it gave to the industry to design better UIs. That being said, I think that Android will eclipse the iPhone some day and these numbers are encouraging.

I completely agree. I wonder if Android would have even entered the market if Google hadn't seen how successful Apple was.
I look at the two like this: iPhone is great for people who want smart phone functionality with a VERY simple interface. Android is great for people who want smart phone functionality and control the phone at a more granular level.

Google had already acquired Android and was investing in it before Apple announced the iPhone. Google was already building in the space.
That said, if you've seen the early Android stuff... well, things changed a ton before we even got to the G1. Which was now famously described by Andy Rubin as beta level software, a .8 version. The super early stuff was more Blackberry than Apple, and in fact, Apple wasn't even yet an established top player yet. But certainly, Android development, in co-ordination with Apple's runaway success took a very iPhone-esque turn. And, at least in my opinion, very much for the better.
EDIT: And on the topic:
Also, 1 million shipped in 45 days on AT&T and T-Mobile is very impressive. I wish we had a break down of the AT&T and T-Mobile specific numbers. If even 300,000 of those are Captivates than AT&T must be in shock, they did almost no promotion, especially before release, yet this would be selling big numbers right across from those massive iPhone 4 displays. Maybe then they will step up their Android efforts. And maybe we will see both Android and iPhone displays at AT&T stores soon.
The Epic seems to be doing quite well in terms of buzz. It should do well. Many of the various versions of the International Galaxy S are doing very well. And doing bonkers in Korea. They did what, 300,000 in Korea in 19 days? And had sold 1 million worldwide in less than 4 weeks on the same date, which was July 13th. Before any US versions released. Now... hard to say until we get an update, but 3 million worldwide wouldn't be surprising, and that's with the Epic, Fascinate, and not all global markets released yet. Though I will say, I am a bit worried about the Fascinate. But it might do alright. People talk about the options on Verizon, but there are many of the same options or more in Europe, and the Galaxy S line has still sold very well.
(It will also be interesting to see how the Vibrant sells when the G2 is released. Very interesting. Also how T-Mobile development moves. The G1 was the starting point, then the Magic was strong, and then the Nexus One, especially on T-Mobile, maybe the height of community Android development centering on a device. The Vibrant has some momentum, especially as the first super high end T-Mobile phone, as the Nexus One wasn't a T-Mobile phone, just on the network. The G2 could split that up. We will see.)
I hate the iPhone as much as the next guy, but... Apple sells that many iPhones in 10 days.
Total global sales so far have exceeded 3 million and its climbing.

But really though I think there's too much Apple hating with Android (Bootscreen's with Android peeing or pooping apple, wallpapers etc.). Android IS amazing and all but what do you really get bashing another platform that keep Android developers in check by working even harder to compete with the other guys? I guess it's all for the fun.
With that said. Love my phone right now

Phone companies shouldn't release so many phones

Phone companies should only be allowed to make 2 phones a year.
HTC- 2 one series
Samsung- 2 Galaxy series
Motorola- 2 Razr series
LG- 2 of whatever crap they are making
Nexus- 1 of the best pure phones a year.
This would fix so many problems with Android. Phones would actually be updated, less fragmentaion.
Thoughts...
Agreed, So that our phones wont be obsolete three months later.....
Even thats still alot of phones thats 9 phones a year from the bigger companies. But it would help. I mean how many Galaxy phones does samsung need to release?

Agreed. If this were the case, companies would most likely make an expensive high-end phone, and then a crappy low-end phone. Thats not to good for business.
Fragmentation, in my opinion, is because of companies promising updates for a device and it never happens. They're lazy and want to make money off the latest devices. Its all smart business strategy.

And it would also completely destroy one of the reasons I and many others like Android so much, which is that you have so much choice over your phone. There's pretty much an Android phone for everyone now, from budget ones for those who want to use it pretty much purely for communication purposes to the high end phones for power users. If companies were to release just one or two phones a year, it would have to be a flagship device and a budget one. There wouldn't be an option for people like me who want a mid-range phone.
Your argument is also slightly flawed in that of course there would be more official updates, but who needs official updates when you have XDA?
No.
The point of android is choice. From budget phones for the people that need a cheep smartphone, mid-range ones for most users, "flagship" phones for those that want the latest and greatest. Big screens, small screens, physical keyboards, SD slots, you name it...
I do, however, agree that some companies *khm* samsung *khm* release so many models that neither users or the company itself know what's out there.
The biggest issue is the fact that relatively few companies release even the new phones with the latest version. HTC for example has almost all 2012 phone running ICS with upgrades coming out for most 2011 phones. Samsung on the other hand has the S2 upgraded, and the S3 as the ICS flagship. Almost everything else is coming out with GB with upgrade possibilities being very slim...
Surely the simplest solution would be for a phone maker to guarantee updates for two years on some phones and this would also encourage people who want an up to date phone to also purchase one of those with guaranteed updates.

You've forgotten the HTC One V
The thing you have to realise is there are tiers when it comes to mobile phone markets.
Putting it simply there's the entry, mid, and high.
Someone who wants a powerful phone isn't going to be happy with an entry or mid level handset.
Someone who can only afford an entry level handset isn't going to be able to buy a high end phone.
Simples.
I hate samsung for lack of updates to such a great phones as e.g. sgs+

Well the new features that the S4 is bringing will be coming in a software update to the S3, so if you already have the S3 it isn't really worth the upgrade.
It's the best phone you will be able to get... in the world. What do you mean is it worth it lol. But yeah if you have the s3, you might not need to upgrade. As I also have the Note 2, im waiting till the Note 4 comes out.

Features one actually uses are the only features worth upgrading phones for. My wife still uses and loves the SGS 2. She has not want for the S3 or Note.
I don't need a 13MP camera. 5 is more than enough. 8 cores? I don't use what I have to it's maximum, except I belive battery life However, I have never used my extra battery on the Note 2 so battery life is plenty as I charge every night whether or not the phone is at 30% or 70%. Gimmicky features don't appeal to me.
Plastic does. Plastic = lighter and with larger and larger screens that is meaningful for me. I would love to see a Note 3 with a 6" screen and not use the Nexus.
The S3 for Note users is likely not worth the upgrade. For S3 users it very well may be. There are some nice additions as well but the N 3 will have them and more gimmicks in a few months.

Offcourse the improvements won't be massive from S3. It's very natural and expected. Only way improvements would have been massive if S3 was a really bad phone.
Probably if you compare S/S2, you will see visible difference from user perspective. Otherwise, it's really tough to substantially improve the user experience in the next flagship. It also means that S3 is still very relevant at this time.
I also don't expect Note 3 to be very different from Note 2. Yes, if someone is changing from Note 1, he may notice visible improvements.

Exactly. All galaxy phones are top notch phones. S1 was great at his time, so was S2. S3 is still kicking butt and S4 is king ( IMO). If you look at HTC, Desire was decent, Sensation was pure garbage, One X had good things but overall disappointed and HTC One is a winner. That's why there is all the excitement.
These kind of sales are to be expected imo, the s4 is a greatly improved imo over the s3

Comparing HTC with Samsung is absurd (in terms of sales)
HTC has a smaller consumer loyalty base than Samsung,
Samsung aims to provide "all but the kitchen sink" to the world of consumer electronics.
There will be no doubt Samsung can produce more units faster to cater demand rather than HTC

tough luck,

This is a marketing semantics game, since the S3 would have sold just as well at launch. The difference is the S3 was a staggered and more methodical global launch. Samsung went as close to a global simultaneous launch as possible with the S4, so by default sold more at launch.
The compromise was a larger Qualcomm mix and very constrained 32gb model availability. Much simpler for expediency pushing mainly a 16gb model out of the gate.

Thinking of replacing my note 2 with another phone

I have sold my s3 and got a note 2 since december from last year.
The reason i bought such a huge phone was for the s pen. It helped me in college for taking notes, but then ive bought an ipad which can work for the same purpose, except without the s pen.
Nowadays im just not finding the note 2 practical for everyday usage. Its just too big.
So now im Thinking of selling it and either buying either an s4, htc one or xperia z.
Can someone give me feedback on those phones?
I love the design of sony phones, but i also cant live without the features of samsung phones

I love the design of sony phones, but i also cant live without the features of samsung phones

If the size of the note 2 is too much, I wouldn't got for the xperia z. its a bit blocky.
I wouldn't the s4 either. Go for the Oppo Find 5, looks to have decent developer support as well

Why dont you ask in their respective forums about those devices?
And if you don't like it anymore, then sell it and move on!
I am new note 2 owner coming from a S3 and before that an iPhone 4s.
This note 2 is the best device I have ever had.

I wouldn't really recommend any of the devices (I've got my hands on S4, Z and One, FYI) over the Note II. But if the size is bothering you that much, go for S4. It's got almost no bezel, and is nearly the same size as S3. Z is probably my least favorite device of all 3, and it's really a tie between One and S4.
But other than that, many users here have switched back to N2, for the record. From both One and S4.

Personally I would go for the HTC One
It is a stunning looking phone and I personally prefer HTC Sense to TouchWiz. All IMO of course, but if I could turn back time I would have got the One instead of the N7105.
32GB Storage is enough for most people, and the only negative is the non-replaceable super sealed in battery where there's no getting at it without wrecking the rest of the phone. From my experience though, this won't be an issue for the lifespan that you'll have the phone.

This depends though on how biased you may be to a particular company.
As bizarre as it sounds, some grown men actually "support" an electronics company the same way normal people support a sports team.

why is supporting a sports team considered normal and support a electronics company isn't? In what ways does a sport team have in connection with it's fans? Nothing. People support a sport team so that they have a sense of belonging, thus filling the mid level needs in Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Different people have difference ways of completing that need. Some "grown" men support their country and hence nationalism, some men support their sport team and hence the sporting industry.
In fact, a normal person can have more sense of belonging to a electronic company because they can buy shares of that company and become part owner.
If you want to change to a similar size just wait for the HTC One Max or the Note 3. They'll be here shortly. Even the Xperia Ultra Z looks nice.
However If you feel that Note 2 is big for you, definitely try the HTC one. Its an awesome phone. I bet you wont give up that one easily.
HTC One would be the way to go, or a Nexus 4.
However, out of experience I can tell: you can get used to a phone with big screen such as the Note 2, but the other way around.. Not really. When I take my Nexus in my hands now, it feels like a freaking toy. The Note is just boss. Also Note 2 community is very alive (on XDA and beyond too) and there are many good TW and AOSP roms and kernels out there..
Off the record: I even dare to say I have a better AOSP experience than on my Nexus, why ? 'Cause of the 5,5" display..
I sold my htc one and bought the note 2. I can tell you what i think (pros ans cons)
1 htc one is much faster than note 2 and s4
2 the big screen in the note2 is a pro and con at the same time. "Pro" because ots really great to play games and read and "con" because its hard to handle it with one hand. Also the htc one sreen is much greater than the note 2, looks a lot sharper and better colors
3 the battery of the note2 is really amazing, i have gotten 8hrs screen time while in the htc one i have gotten 6+ hrs screen time but sometimes just 5hrs screen time
4 the camera on both are great, i like the htc camera more because of the functions and the quality is really great
5 the sound of the htc one is simply the best, even better than some laptops trust me!!
6 you can install a sd card in the note2
7 you have spen in the note2 (i dont use it that much so to me its not a big deal)
Im thinking in sale my note2 and get the htc one again but its hard to leave the great battery life i get with the note2 so its your choice mate

Because it's usually sad losers who ramble on online desperately trying to defend their precious brands and these "fanboys" have no shame.
A supporter of a sports team usually isn't the type of loser who portrays a sad and lonely one man crusade online to defend his precious brand name. Dunno what sports you like mate, but I go for a few beers with my mates and then go watch Arsenal. It is completely different to feeling the need to ramble on whenever a company like Apple is mentioned.
The fanboy "iFail, Crapple" type people are all too frequent and pathetic and they need to get a life.
As for the rest of your rant, I tend to find the online or technology "fanboys" to be more cringeworthy than the rest. Maybe they're sociallu awkward and need support the samsung or apple team (whatever that means).
The only logic fail here is you telling the op that the Note 3 is the best even though he already said the note 2 was too big for him. I would hazard a guess this is because you are one of these aforementioned fanboy characters and can't bear to see anyone suggest anything other than the Note

What made you sell the HTC One in the first place? Out of curiousity..
I've got the LTE Note 2 and I don't think I get much better life than the HTC One. I've been pondering selling up and getting the One..
