Offcourse the improvements won't be massive from S3. It's very natural and expected. Only way improvements would have been massive if S3 was a really bad phone.
Probably if you compare S/S2, you will see visible difference from user perspective. Otherwise, it's really tough to substantially improve the user experience in the next flagship. It also means that S3 is still very relevant at this time.
I also don't expect Note 3 to be very different from Note 2. Yes, if someone is changing from Note 1, he may notice visible improvements.

Exactly. All galaxy phones are top notch phones. S1 was great at his time, so was S2. S3 is still kicking butt and S4 is king ( IMO). If you look at HTC, Desire was decent, Sensation was pure garbage, One X had good things but overall disappointed and HTC One is a winner. That's why there is all the excitement.
These kind of sales are to be expected imo, the s4 is a greatly improved imo over the s3
I believe note 3 is going to break all records, I feel samsung is going to bring a megical device like note 2, the improvements will be massive. I want stability and battery like note 2 and features from s4

I dont think note 3 will break sales records compared to the s4 but I think it will sell more than the note 2 but it will have improvements over the s4 and will have bettery life better than the note 2. I am expecting a 3400-3500mah battery in note 3.
seeing as this is the direction samsung are heading looks like they will be number one on my list of manufacturers.

Have you even read the article?
"As of the end of April, we supplied four million Galaxy S4 handsets to telecommunication operators around the world," a Samsung executive said on Friday. "As of Friday, we have sold more than 6 million units, and we predict that we could break the 10-million mark by as early as the end of this month," the company added.

Yes n00b.
I am more curious if the Htc One even sold any better than the One X.
Found my own answer!
http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/blog/2013/05/02/predictions-put-htc-one-sales-at-the-10-million-mark/
10 millions units predicted for the entire 2013 year?
Comparing HTC with Samsung is absurd (in terms of sales)
HTC has a smaller consumer loyalty base than Samsung,
Samsung aims to provide "all but the kitchen sink" to the world of consumer electronics.
There will be no doubt Samsung can produce more units faster to cater demand rather than HTC
I sold one too, the screen is such ****, wish I didn't exchange the One for it now... thought that phone was ****, it's amazing compared to the GS4 lol.

tough luck,
you're screwed,
now get an iphone,
problem solved
This is a marketing semantics game, since the S3 would have sold just as well at launch. The difference is the S3 was a staggered and more methodical global launch. Samsung went as close to a global simultaneous launch as possible with the S4, so by default sold more at launch.
The compromise was a larger Qualcomm mix and very constrained 32gb model availability. Much simpler for expediency pushing mainly a 16gb model out of the gate.

The antenna problem is terrible enough, on top of the extremely conductive material of the iPhone making it super hot after awhile of heavy usage.
Sprint just placed an order with Apple for an astounding 20 billion dollars. Apple better have something real special up their sleeves or Sprint is toast.

Luckily we'll know soon enough. Personally I can't wait to see what the iPhone 5 brings!
the iphone heading to sprint seems to be the CDMA version of iphone4s available in black or white as it was leaked on the website

so i doubt it's the iphone5
in other words... people in sprint will be more happy enjoying the SGS2 LTE than iphone4S

Well what I do expect is a great overall piece of hardware with maybe a few nicks here or there like every phone has. Software wise I don't see it as bringing anything substantially new. It's like the gingerbread update, or maybe a 2.3.4-2.3.5.

Well the new features that the S4 is bringing will be coming in a software update to the S3, so if you already have the S3 it isn't really worth the upgrade.
It's the best phone you will be able to get... in the world. What do you mean is it worth it lol. But yeah if you have the s3, you might not need to upgrade. As I also have the Note 2, im waiting till the Note 4 comes out.

Features one actually uses are the only features worth upgrading phones for. My wife still uses and loves the SGS 2. She has not want for the S3 or Note.
I don't need a 13MP camera. 5 is more than enough. 8 cores? I don't use what I have to it's maximum, except I belive battery life However, I have never used my extra battery on the Note 2 so battery life is plenty as I charge every night whether or not the phone is at 30% or 70%. Gimmicky features don't appeal to me.
Plastic does. Plastic = lighter and with larger and larger screens that is meaningful for me. I would love to see a Note 3 with a 6" screen and not use the Nexus.
The S3 for Note users is likely not worth the upgrade. For S3 users it very well may be. There are some nice additions as well but the N 3 will have them and more gimmicks in a few months.

If you care about power and battery, S4 is the way to go.
Customization, Nexus devices. They are simply unbeatable.
You will only want the One, if you really put design and materials as a priority especially the UI.

based on what you have said you definitely should get the gs4
something else you should consider is the software - if you want to use all features, you are pretty much stuck with stock software on both phones - you need to decide which stock software you like more
You want other people to tell you what to buy or do??
At least wait until they are both out, read the facts and make your own mind up
It looks like the Galaxy S IV will be your device then!
The HTC One is tailored to the more design attentive crowd. S IV isn't as pretty and lacks a couple features but the power is definitely there and Samsung will probably have more stable builds of AOSP based ROM's for customization

Why are Nexus devices more customizable? Can't any Android devices be rooted and loaded with custom roms?
Nexus devices are easier to root and unlock the bootloader, and updates are received directly from Google. Although those quick updates come with awful bugs.

Generally the most consumer popular phones will have the largest customizability, it's true that nexus devices are built for devs and are easy to root, but really.. none of the devices you've listed are hard to root.
In this case, S4 is for you.

Samsung Galaxy S Sales Hit 100 Million
By Angela Moscaritolo January 14, 2013
Samsung on Monday announced a major milestone: global sales of its flagship Galaxy S smartphones have hit 100 million units since the first model made its debut in 2010.
The original Galaxy S smartphone, launched in June 2010, has sold some 24 million units to date, with 10 million purchased during the first seven months of launch, Samsung said. The follow-up Galaxy S II, launched in April 2011, reached the 10 million sales mark in just five months, and has logged sales of around 40 million units to date.
The fastest-selling device in the lineup, however, is the Galaxy S III. The uber-popular phone, unveiled this past May, achieved 20 million global sales in just 100 days, and has now passed the 40 million unit sales mark.

S 4 is just recycle - that the main different here, also this year got more competitor, Xperia Z and HTC One ain't bad and direct compete with S 4.
Ya, S 4 probably still selling well not because it was great, because Samsung got money on marketing. Let said S 4 selling well, continuer S 5, S 6, S 7 and so on will be same/similar design. Is this what you all want? Definitely not for me.

I don't understand why people are saying this, every single technology has been upgraded to the latest thing, or best available at the moment, CPU, memory, camera, screen, battery, added software, added sensors.
What the hell were people expecting? Something that Startrek would be proud of??
The only thing similar is the casing.

The reason i bought such a huge phone was for the s pen. It helped me in college for taking notes, but then ive bought an ipad which can work for the same purpose, except without the s pen.
Nowadays im just not finding the note 2 practical for everyday usage. Its just too big.

I wouldn't really recommend any of the devices (I've got my hands on S4, Z and One, FYI) over the Note II. But if the size is bothering you that much, go for S4. It's got almost no bezel, and is nearly the same size as S3. Z is probably my least favorite device of all 3, and it's really a tie between One and S4.
But other than that, many users here have switched back to N2, for the record. From both One and S4.

Personally I would go for the HTC One
It is a stunning looking phone and I personally prefer HTC Sense to TouchWiz. All IMO of course, but if I could turn back time I would have got the One instead of the N7105.
32GB Storage is enough for most people, and the only negative is the non-replaceable super sealed in battery where there's no getting at it without wrecking the rest of the phone. From my experience though, this won't be an issue for the lifespan that you'll have the phone.

As bizarre as it sounds, some grown men actually "support" an electronics company the same way normal people support a sports team.

Logic fail...
why is supporting a sports team considered normal and support a electronics company isn't? In what ways does a sport team have in connection with it's fans? Nothing. People support a sport team so that they have a sense of belonging, thus filling the mid level needs in Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Different people have difference ways of completing that need. Some "grown" men support their country and hence nationalism, some men support their sport team and hence the sporting industry.
In fact, a normal person can have more sense of belonging to a electronic company because they can buy shares of that company and become part owner.
If you want to change to a similar size just wait for the HTC One Max or the Note 3. They'll be here shortly. Even the Xperia Ultra Z looks nice.
However If you feel that Note 2 is big for you, definitely try the HTC one. Its an awesome phone. I bet you wont give up that one easily.
HTC One would be the way to go, or a Nexus 4.
However, out of experience I can tell: you can get used to a phone with big screen such as the Note 2, but the other way around.. Not really. When I take my Nexus in my hands now, it feels like a freaking toy. The Note is just boss. Also Note 2 community is very alive (on XDA and beyond too) and there are many good TW and AOSP roms and kernels out there..
Off the record: I even dare to say I have a better AOSP experience than on my Nexus, why ? 'Cause of the 5,5" display..
I sold my htc one and bought the note 2. I can tell you what i think (pros ans cons)
1 htc one is much faster than note 2 and s4
2 the big screen in the note2 is a pro and con at the same time. "Pro" because ots really great to play games and read and "con" because its hard to handle it with one hand. Also the htc one sreen is much greater than the note 2, looks a lot sharper and better colors
3 the battery of the note2 is really amazing, i have gotten 8hrs screen time while in the htc one i have gotten 6+ hrs screen time but sometimes just 5hrs screen time
4 the camera on both are great, i like the htc camera more because of the functions and the quality is really great
5 the sound of the htc one is simply the best, even better than some laptops trust me!!
6 you can install a sd card in the note2

Logic fail...
why is supporting a sports team considered normal and support a electronics company isn't? In what ways does a sport team have in connection with it's fans? Nothing. People support a sport team so that they have a sense of belonging, thus filling the mid level needs in Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Different people have difference ways of completing that need. Some "grown" men support their country and hence nationalism, some men support their sport team and hence the sporting industry.
In fact, a normal person can have more sense of belonging to a electronic company because they can buy shares of that company and become part owner.

Because it's usually sad losers who ramble on online desperately trying to defend their precious brands and these "fanboys" have no shame.
A supporter of a sports team usually isn't the type of loser who portrays a sad and lonely one man crusade online to defend his precious brand name. Dunno what sports you like mate, but I go for a few beers with my mates and then go watch Arsenal. It is completely different to feeling the need to ramble on whenever a company like Apple is mentioned.
The fanboy "iFail, Crapple" type people are all too frequent and pathetic and they need to get a life.
As for the rest of your rant, I tend to find the online or technology "fanboys" to be more cringeworthy than the rest. Maybe they're sociallu awkward and need support the samsung or apple team (whatever that means).
The only logic fail here is you telling the op that the Note 3 is the best even though he already said the note 2 was too big for him. I would hazard a guess this is because you are one of these aforementioned fanboy characters and can't bear to see anyone suggest anything other than the Note

What made you sell the HTC One in the first place? Out of curiousity..
I've got the LTE Note 2 and I don't think I get much better life than the HTC One. I've been pondering selling up and getting the One..

3 things that I was a bit disappointed with:
1. Screen is not a flexible one like the concept shown a while ago (with side screen for notifications)
2. Screen not flexible can be compensated by a larger screen (6"?), but it's not much bigger.
3. Why does it have to look like a gs2? Are we going backwards in fashion?
Just some of my thoughts...

^^ Well, screen might can bendable. But how do you bend those battery, and other circuits inside?
Even if that is possible as a prototype in labs, I am sure such tech is not ready for mass production. Not to forget, the cost associated will be just too high.
how big is the screen?
Front facing speakers and a bigger screen would of been the icing on the cake for me. Still can't wait to buy one though (just sold my note 2)

The big question is how locked down the bootloader will be and on which models/ carriers. For example since im in canada my s4 does not have and never did have a locked bootloader. The last update on at&t has negated the ability to do anything other than root at this point.
If the note 3 is going that route I will spend my money elsewhere, I hope this is not the case however

Personally, that's one of the selling points for me. I had an S2 and loved it because it was a powerful little thing and it's design is, in my opinion, better than Samsung devices since then.
If I'd liked the look of any Samsung device since then, chances are I would've stayed with them instead of venturing towards a Sony and HTC.
Yeah the specs are great but I wouldn't even think about buying the Note 3 if it looked similar to previous iterations.

As you can see by my signature, I have the One and have been amazed by the improvements by simply having front facing speakers so I definitely agree that it would've been a great addition.
As it currently stands though, it's not really much of a set back.

Have you seen this:

If the Note 3 had this I would have been super excited about it and call it the BEST phone out in the market atm! :victory:
I take back my comment about the overall design looking like a GS2 because I think it reminds me of the original GN1 more now

Keyword: prototype
We still don't know how much it costs for mass production. Reliability is another concern. Definitely it will get such a device in future for sure.

Yeah its only a prototype which many thought were going to be implemented into the gs4..
Maybe you're right about the cost or maybe they just don't want to bring out the big guns yet ;p

I feel the Note 3 is a great upgrade from what I've read. I like that it has a envelope tracker. Saving you up to 30% battery life while connected to LTE.
Then you have a very fast processor the S800 running at 2.3ghz max. The 330 GPU that will play anything on the market and many high end games to come. I'm not a very big gamer on phones but I think I will be if I got the Note 3.
I also like the new S-pen features, though there is more optimizations then features. It's still great what Samsung has done. Like the scrapbook, it now will save the metadata of whatever you put in you're scrapbook making it much more useful. And the new floating windows that you can open by just drawing a box of whatever size you want the app to run in.
Battery life is said to have up to 4 more hours of on screen time. Of course it all depends on what is on you're screen but still, I find that a big improvement. But it's mainly due to the S800, it's optimized much better then I thought it would have been. Of course this is all based off of what I've read. But it sounds about right.
Furthermore, you get a much more powerful device. In a all around smaller and lighter package. Sadly the screen is pentile from what I've seen so far. But at 1920x1080 and a 5.68" display pentile should be passable. I've read it looks just as good or better then the Note 2's display. And reading full non mobile web pages without zooming in shouldn't be a problem. Yes you can do that with the Note 2 but only in landscape mode.
I would love to be able to upgrade. It's been keeping me up at night... Gratz to everyone that's able to get this wonderful device.

Since I still have the Note 1, the Note 3 is a welcomed upgrade for me.
I wish the desktop feeling has improved when connecting the Note to a FullHD TV. I guess I will buy the Snapdrogon 800 version, since the octa core version will not be as good supported by Mod development, even if the Octa Core might be faster.
Engadget's Hands-on Review
Two years ago, at a consumer electronics show in Berlin, Samsung took to the stage and unveiled the introduction to what is now a booming smartphone genre. The 5.3-inch monstrosity, called the Galaxy Note, has blossomed into one of the Korean manufacturer's biggest brands. Today the same company is unveiling the Galaxy Note 3, the second sequel in a series of supersized stylus-smitten smartphones, which is even taller, narrower and thinner than the first two of its kind. As expected, the new 5.7-inch Note not only utilizes a S-Pen but enhances its functionality and adds better hardware and components to ensure it's able to handle anything you can throw at it.

Just a quick comparison, between the 2 newest things out there so far, Gnote3 vs LG G2:
http://www.androidcentral.com/quick-comparison-lg-g2-versus-samsung-galaxy-note-3
.
Murray Winiata, a NZ blogger, got hold of a Note 3 and posted his opinions on his twitter page yesterday. Overall he is very positive about it and he is a demanding and informed reviewer.
Some of you may remember he wrote a really detailed review of the Note 1 on his blog and hopefully he will get around to doing the same for the Note 3. I think he sometimes posts here too.
