[Q] Purchasing Question - HTC Sensation

Dear Sensation users,
i am planning to purchase sensation due to these features
- Can be upgrade-able to 4.0.4 pure ics(non-sense)
- can be overclocked upto 1.6ghz
- can be battery life improvable
- can be gaming machine
Does it is worth to purchase Htc sensation ?

to all of that yes

I have some more question,
Does its rooting process is complex ?
I saw two phones.Sensation and sensation 4G,what are their differences ?

if you follow carefully the procedure you will not have any problems
only patience for the wire trick
no differences at all.just only 4G

I bought mine in November and have been happy with it. FWIW, I have a stable overclock at 1782 MHz on core 0 and 1728 MHz on core 1. Mine was already S-OFF and rooted when I bought it, so I didn't need to mess with that. Unlocking, updating firmware and whatnot was simple. Mine also came with an Anker battery and no stock battery, so I'm not sure how they compare. Battery life with the Anker is fine for my needs and better than my last phone. There are two things I can think of that I wasn't totally prepared for when I bought the phone. One is that the speaker is pretty ****ty. There are instructions here on how to increase the volume to a more reasonable level, but the speaker is still pretty lousy. Also, these phones get dust trapped under the screen. I can't see it in a dimly lit room, but it is noticeable and a bit annoying under bright lighting. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it.

if its speaker is lousy is not a problem but its dust trapped is kinda real trouble for me cuz everytime i just put my phone on a dust surface or dust place.Need to use its alternate case for the protection

What about its gaming performance on CM9/10.1 ?

gaming
The gaming is pretty awesome. I would suggest rooting the phone and flashing CyanogenMod 10.1 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2115520 )
Android 4.04 may shore some signs of lag, but with android 4.2.2, the lag is gone ( thanks to project butter )
I would suggest 4.2.2 for gaming. Also, I can over clock my phone to 1966 Mhz.

1966mhz overclock ?
Does its CPU is will be fry ?

cpu overclock
Sorry. Its not 1966 MHz but 1944 MHz. I never had an issue with the CPU being too hot. I have the app setCPU installed on my phone and that's how you over clock it to 1944 mhz. You never really need your processor at that speed for games though. I usually set my CPU at a max speed of about 1600 MHz because it uses a lot of battery if you set your CPU too high..

Sensation users,
How was the stability of the phone ? (such as touch, performance, gaming etc)

Honestly, I own a Sensation and it was a great phone when it was released. But nowdays, I find it a bit hard to understand why you'd still recommend it to anyone.
-It most likely will never get Jelly Bean from HTC
-the hardware doesnt get any younger
-if you're unlucky you get a device with the dust-under-screen problem

I would rate the touch screen 4.8/5 because it rarely glitches
Performance 4.2/5 its good enough for me except for the ppi and video playback
Gaming 4.5/5 the games perform well...occasional lag
Overall i would rate the phone 4.5/5. It's a nice phone (one of the best when it came out) but nowadays it's not a tier 1 phone. There are phones like the Samsung galaxy s4 and the HTC one (m7) that outclass this phone.
The biggest disadvantage to this phone is probably the tiny 1520 milliamp stock battery, but otherwise it's nice if you root it and flash your custom ROM ( I have CyanogenMod 10.1 based off of android 4.2.2)

- Touch screen can be improved with any tweaks
- Video playback can be improved with bravia engine II installed
- Gaming can be improved also with overclocking
and yeah SGS IV and Htc one is an full horse powered phone.Battery problem is a kinda real problem for me,does it has any expanded battery ?

You can get a power skin for the sensation(1520 milliamp) or an anker replacement battery (1900 milliamp)
By the way, how do you install bravia engine II?

Dear sensation users,
I saw the Sensation XE used version on market, one thing that i noticed that its touch needs to be a little pressured touch.
PS: in htc explorer.its touchscreen is runs as fluid.
so this is normal on every sensation series have a touchscreen issue?

sensation single core?

im just curious to kno when we over clock this phone with temp root ...are we only over clocking one processor? im asking this because I've been reading that gingerbread doesn't even use both cores...and we have to wait until ice cream sandwich for both cores to be used like there supposed to be...I kno some games utilize both cores, but for the most part we only have a "single" core phone?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
I'm interested in underclocking/disabling a core. Seeing how that would play out on battery life.
A post I found online says it nicely:
Right now, the android sdk (2.3) provides no means to use more than one CPU core.
Still, multicore CPUs will increase performance because background processes can use CPU time on the core not being used by the running app.
This also applies to garbage collection (GC) which happens periodically (I guess you can trigger it manually too) whilst an app is running. With more than one core, the GC won't block the app which makes it feel "smoother".
I remember reading about Google's plans to improve multicore-support in android 2.4. It will take some time for existing apps to use it though (like it's happened with desktop applications).

As you can now see, even though the device is dual core, the OS and any applications won't make -full- use of both cores until they are designed to do so. Just like most applications these days won't utilize a quad core processor on your desktop. You are correct in saying that some games are designed to use both, which is noticeable. I don't see why an overclock wouldn't affect both cores.
By the way, your title is full of fail "Gingerbread only using one core?" would have been more suitable, since the device itself has nothing to do with how the OS utilizes its hardware.
I wonder if within the development here we can actually get that working?

Get what working, the overclock on both cores? Or Gingerbread using both cores?
If A: Yes (once S-OFF update comes, or temporarily with Fr3vo until then)
If B: No.
haha I thought about that after I posted..I kno how some pple are on here...easy to flame ya...which is why I don't post often..just read...but thanks for the info...I figured that was the case...can't wait to see what this phone is really capable of....s-off will be here sooner then later

I agree with you.
It would be nice if both cores ramped up to full speed when even only one is needed.
So in basic terms..
SGSII is a monster of CPU power....
you say its only using 1 core, and SGSII scores about 2-3 times more than our HTC Sensation...
When icecream will be released, the samsung galaxy S ii will socre even higher than our sensation....
I do not think android 2.3 is using one core for sure its using both .( even if the OS doesn't support )

Wait, huh? Are you saying that you think the GS2 is using both cores, and the sensation is only using one? That would completely explain the benchmark scores. Bring on 2.4

Where did you see a benchmark score where the SGSII is 2-3 times higher than the HTC Sensation?
The only one that I have checked was CF-Bench (which supports dual core) and the SGSII was about 20% higher. Certainly not 200%-300% higher.

this is gonna be a forever argument between the sensation and the gsII...on paper the sensation has better hardware ..Google it..its all over the forum ...the software is not optimized for the phone.with that being said..neither is the gsII...unless its running honeycomb somehow or ice cream sandwich ...gingerbread its self is the issue...now touchwiz may utilize both cores..im not sure..that may be why the gsII seems way smoother....just wait until this BL is unlocked...this phone will be monster
Do any of you guys remember this: MS update - KB896256?
I remember what that did for my laptop.
Worked real well.

Hi my name is DloBrown and Im A nightly addict!!!
Here's an interesting tidbit from Anand Tech in their latest article (related to the TouchPad, but it can still apply here):
From a CPU standpoint, Apple has a performance advantage at the same clock speed, but Qualcomm runs its cores at a higher clock. NVIDIA claimed that the move to an out-of-order architecture in the A9 was good for a 20% increase in IPC. Qualcomm has a 20% clock speed advantage. In most situations I think it's safe to say that the A5 and the APQ8060 have equally performing CPUs.

O.k. I May have gone too far with links but this is a complete test of the Sensation from body, hardware (GPU CPU), to software. It tells what every component is (like what speaker is used) and bar grafts comparisons and test.

In all these test you will note he explains the power loss due to the screen. I have been looking for the article I came across awhile back which some one who has worked with the core of GS 2 (mali), Tegra 2, and Sensation (Areno 8260) he shows and explains how the Sensation CPU and GPU is miles ahead of everything else. Then shows and explains in detail why it tests lower part of it is the throttle control. Like newer motors that are 8 cylinders and only use 4 or 6 when needed. The 8660 only uses what it needs to complete the task (not synced to one another or run as one). He also went on to explain that the bench mark is showing one chip while the other is playing with core systems. In reality you x2 the benchmark scores and your about right on the number. He also did the math and broke down exactly what is lost because of the screen and separately explains how capping the frame rate affects performance.

I wouldn't say the 8x60 is miles ahead of any SoC. It is powerful, but every SoC has its own advantages/disadvantages. The primary disadvantage for the 8x60 is that it can't perform out of order instructions which is why any A9 CPU will always be faster than a Scorpion CPU at the same clock speed (Exynos).
Here is true power of MALI 400 GPU in SGS2. Galaxy S2 has a framerate/Vsync cap at 59fps too. It would probably be 300fps with Vsync Off. Sensation is still a beast though

CPU won't clock at fullspeed...

Hey guys,
I noticed that there was some lag when i was playing for example Riptide or Shadowgun..then I installed System Panel to monitor my cpu clock speed while i'm playing shadowgun and this is what it showed:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/43585032/2012-04-11_22-52-02.png
This processor runs barely half the speed of what its capable of. this is causing fps drops..
Does anyone have an idea of whats going on there? Are you suffering from the same problem?
Edit:
SuperPi seems to stress out the dual core properly:

I think it has more to do with ICS.. the Galaxy Nexus only runs at half clockspeed most of the time as well. Hell when I had mine it ran at the lowest clockspeed the majority of the time, and only when playing N64 could I bump it up to 700mhz. But hey if it's not lagging who cares (in the case of the Nexus)
I installed setcpu and decreased the up threshold to 40% ..before it was on 90% which means that the cpu only clocked up at 90% cpu load.. now it does at 40%. this solved my problem
+1 sounds like the best solution. Battery life may be sacrificed but hey, 90% is pretty ridiculous
If you weren't using tegra based games use shadowgun and riptide. Used the playstore ones you would get no frames drops. Mostly likely chainfire 3d developer would need an one s as it a vastly different from s3 processors. I personally have both on a SamsungGalaxySII with s3 processors with no frame drops. GPU configuration might not play nice with Krait.

[Q] htc sensation performance on gaming

Iam planning to sell my galaxy S and replace it with HTc sensation, is htc sensation a good phone to play HD games and other heavy aplications? considering its more powerful hardware compared to the galaxy S, will I get huge boost performance on games? I play games a lot btw. thanks
Well, as far as gaming is concerned, most games work on the sensation without any difficulties. The only games unplayable is games for.tegra 3 phones. But all in all, changing from a galaxy s, its a big step forward. Do click thanks if i helped in any way;-) cheers~

yes, this device is awesome at gaming. and supported by all HD games.
unless, those that are tegra 3 specific.
i can tell it won't be any time soon that this phone looses it's hardware capabilities. adreno 220 is pretty good
thanks for your feedback guys,no longer hesitated now . gonna buy sensation soon

HTC One ME (Dual Sim)(M9EW)

Hello,
HTC introduced the One ME dual-SIM with Helio X10 chipset and support for Indian 4G LTE networks. This handset was unveiled in China earlier this month and will be sold in Classic Rose Gold and Meteor Grey color options in India.
The One ME is HTC’s second WQHD smartphone with fingerprint sensor after the One M9+ to enter the Indian market. Styled like the rest of the One product family, the device has a polycarbonate body.
Specs-wise, the device packs the latest 64-bit MediaTek Helio X10 MT6795T mobile chipset with 2.2GHz octa-core CPU and 3GB of RAM. A 5.2” QHD display, 32GB of expandable memory, and 20MP main camera are also on board. HTC One ME boots Sense-d Android Lollipop.
The dual-SIM handset supports Indian 4G LTE network bands - 1800Mhz (Band 3) and 2600 MHz (Band 40) to deliver fast mobile web speeds, but only in select regions. Other connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Bluetooth 4.1 with apt-X, and GPS with A-GPS/GLONASS/Beidou support.

I've read some reviews about it as I'm so interested in dual sim flagship phones. Since this phone has high specs with a very reasonable price as it's now available now for $550-$600; it really got my attention.
Most of the people say that it heats up and drains battery faster. It also lags sometimes with multitasking and heavy gaming. Other than that it's working fine. I really like the specs and the design but disappointed that it lacks wireless charging and also doesn't give the chance to add a wireless charging receiver as it has a fixed back battery cover.
Anyone owning the device could give us a real feedback about it!

My brother owns it. I have used it quite often. It's a damn good device. Totally value for money. If you want to know any particular details, feel free to ask.

I also got 2 hands on with this device....as i mentioned in prev post....best value for money device till date with all features.
But there are some things which could not be performed at hand on.
So please provide some details about below points.
1. How is Battery Life (Its 2840 mah and is it enough for 5.2 + 2k screen)
2. Performance (MTK helio10 is really capable handling graphic loaded games and apps)
3. Is there Heating Issue? (I heard somewhere about this.....???!!!)

1. Battery life gets him through a day. It really depends on your usage.
2. Processor is damn good, no performance issues. Gaming isn't that great though due to a sucky GPU, highly extensive games will see frame drops.
3. Every smartphone heats when used for long hours without resting. Nothing uncommon. No "heating issue" or "overheating".

Yes, it's a great value for money device. Since it's not mine, I won't have new findings, but if you ask anything in particular, I'll be able to find out and inform.
Any update about this phone getting 5.1.1 ?

Just received the device yesterday, I bought it from eBay. I'm really impressed with the design. The grey one gives you a metal build feel. Sense 7 is great. There is FM and USB host option if there is anyone wondering. I didn't assess battery life yet, not before one week. I noticed that the boom sound is less in intensity compared to m8. There is some heating up but not exaggerated as people complain about, maybe coz I didn't overload it seriously but with normal use it's OK. I still didn't check the mhl adaptor. Overall it should be considered as a flagship phone but with a very reasonable price.

Hello guys. I would like to buy this fantastic phone , but I live in Rome . I use a SIM Card with Operator 3. Do You believe this phone is compatible with the LTE bands in Italy ? Thank you soo much...

Anyone know of a root method that works for this phone?
And would the htc one m9+ root work as both devices are basically the same?

Go here and check (Match) your network band. I think it should work.
