Hi everyone, really sorry if someone has asked this before, but I looked through the forums and couldn't find much pertaining to my problem.
I installed LiquidSmooth 4.2.1 for my I535 Galaxy S3 on Verizon, and it loaded, but I noticed my appstore was gone, preventing me from installing Titanium to get all my apps back.
I googled it and that told me to install Gaaps. So I reflashed the stock ROM, and then installed Gaaps. When I did, every Google related app crashed simultaneously, making the phone near unusable. I figured I'd just reflash the stock image again, and that seemed to fix the problem. Is there anything else I should do, in case something goes wrong?
I have a feeling I might have used the wrong Gaaps? Is there a certain place I'm supposed to look as mentioned here? In that same thread, it looks like the dev doesn't even want to answer where to get the gaaps.
Again, I'm sorry if the answer is obvious, but I am having a little trouble here.
why are you trying to install an inferior dated version?
go here

I saw that one, and noticed i535 wasn't one of the options listed. Do I just use d2vzw?

yes.
Always make sure to flash a Gapps package when flashing a ROM, unless otherwise specified. Also, when flashing a Gapps package make sure that you flash a gapps package that is compatible with whichever variant phone you are using, in your case d2vzw as well as compatible with the ROM, i.e. if flashing a 4.2.2 ROM make sure you flash the compatible gapps package. Doing an extra 10 minutes of research can save you hours of headaches.

I'm sorry to sound like a noob, but I've searched and searched, and haven't been able to find an explanation. When I go to my phone info section (About phone), my phone is listed as a Galaxy Nexus, despite the fact that my phone is a Galaxy S3 (d2vzw). I'm not sure when this changed and I don't remember exactly what it used to say, but I know this was not it. I can't figure out if it was the ROM or the kernel that changed it (though I have my doubts it was the kernel).
I am using the AOKP rom and the KT747 kernel.
The only reason I noticed this is because I've been using the goomanager app to let me know when there have been updates to my ROM and to my surprise one day, I was notified that there was an update (even though I wasn't expecting one). I downloaded it (without even paying attention to the file name) and tried flashing it a few times, but it kept failing no matter what I did. I started to wonder if the recovery was the issue, so I took that opportunity to move from clockworkmod to TWRP. That did not change the outcome. I then decided to check the file itself by googling its file name and I was shocked to learn that it was for the Galaxy Nexus... not for the GS3! I finally went into About phone and noticed my phone was listed as a Galaxy Nexus.
As it stands now, I'm not sure if the reason it's listed wrong is because of me trying to flash the wrong ROM, or if it was like that beforehand. What I do know is that because it's listed wrong, goomanager keeps telling me there's an update to my ROM (and keeps pointing me to that original file I tried flashing).
I only recently flashed a different kernel than what came with the phone and I believe this was after the name was already wrong, so I doubt that's to blame. To be safe, I tried installing a different kernel (I think it was called "Lean" kernel), but that ended up preventing my phone from ever booting (seriously, I waited about an hour and even tried rebooting, but it never actually booted), so I ended up reflashing the KT747 kernel and it's working again.
Any idea as to why this is happening? Is there a way to fix this? Other than the fact that goomanager keeps looking for the wrong updates, is it bad for my phone?
Thanks in advance!
You can modify the build.prop to make your phone think its anything. So the ROM has a nexus written in the build.prop. are you using an unofficial build or the official one for our phone?
Also it really doesn't matter that it is listed as a nexus. Just disable goo manager updates. And then you will ha e to manually check for d2vzw updates. There is nothing to worry about. As far as lean kernel not booting. Be sure to use the right kernel (aosp or stock) and if your using the 4.2 version of AOKP you need the new 4.2 kernel, which I am personally unfamiliar with lean if it has a 4.2 kernel

I'm using the official Milestone build released on 2012-10-29. I know it wasn't changed in the builds prior to that because goomanager was always able to point me to the next, correct update. If they did change the build.prop for that release, what would have been the point?

Well, you're right except that it kind of does matter if goomanager is no longer able to find the right updates. I know I can disable the checks, but I don't want to have to remember to check manually.

I thought I had checked to make sure it was an aosp version and not touchwiz, but now I don't remember. The Milestone build of AOKP I'm on is 4.1.2.

Ya then thats why it changed
Right after my last post, I opened the Wallet Installer app and saw that there's a button to restore build.prop, so I pressed it and my phone rebooted. Afterwards, it was back to normal. What's odd is that Google Wallet appears to still work properly (I think; all I've ever done is add a credit card). I guess it only needs to change it for it to install.

Okay, so it starts like this. I rooted my phone using odin3 and it worked splendidly and everything worked such as gapps. Then I decided to try installing roms... I installed cyanogenmod 10.1 or just ten, not sure. Once I did that everything went down the toilet. I didn't know you had to flash apps so for whatever reason only my app installs I did pre rom installation worked, such as facebook, twitter, instagram. Google playstore didn't work, and neither did gmail. also my contacts wouldn't open either sometimes which was strange. Then like an idiot I installed an update, mentally I was thinking it was a stable update, little did I know it said experimental, It ridded my phone of everything... gapps are all gone, even the play store. The solution I found online was to install flashed gapps, so I did. When I click to open it, it says there is nothing to support it so it won't open. so basically I use the internet browser for everything, and it is very tedious.
What I want to happen and need helping doing:
Either-
Uninstalling cyanogenmod and putting a stock rom on there, which would be heavenly (which i've tried to do and odin always fails to fully download it)
or,
getting my gapps on my phone and having whatever mystery software to support these files on there.

re: Galaxy S3 help
Sent a message to you, chrisusotattd.
To anyone else with this problem, here is the long version of solving this issue. (I can not post links as I have not hit the 10-post minimum, so it is the long version.)
Okay, first step (important!) is to boot into recovery and wipe the Dalvik Cache. Second, wipe cache partition.
Third, wipe data/factory reset. (I did this on my phone.)
This could be part of your problem, as all the apps you installed prior to flashing Cyanogenmod are still there.
Go to the Cyanogenmod home page, hover over the 'get Cyanogenmod' link, and look under 'all devices' on the right. On the next page, select the manufacturer/vendor for your phone (Samsung). Find your Galaxy S3 version (mine is i9300) and click on the stable Cyanogenmod ROM button for your phone. (If there is not a stable version, a 'release candidate' will work too.)
Below the 'release candidate' button, you will find a link to instructions for installing Cyanogenmod. The page for this contains a link to a Clockworkmod (CWM) Recovery, which I'd recommend installing it before you flash the new ROM, if you do not already have it. (The page may be grumpy and not load. Hit refresh, it will work.)
I have a version of CWM, and it works far better than the stock recovery.
I used Odin to flash my S3 as well, so use that instead of Heimdall if you prefer. Once you flash Clockwork Recovery, you can flash the Cyanogenmod ROM thru the CWM recovery.

I'm using TWRP 2.8.1.0 and I tried flashing the latest nightly as well as the stable version. I verified the MD5 signature after copying the .zip to my SD card. I also did a full wipe with TWRP.
My phone is the i727R with Gingerbread 2.3.5. Do I need to update to the latest official 4.x firmware from Rogers before I try to flash with AOSPA?
Any other suggestions or hints? This is my first time trying to flash a custom ROM, so I'm probably doing something wrong.
Figured it out, didn't have the latest radio installed. Might want to add that to the instructions for noobs like me. It's easy to overlook because the note regarding the firmware is under the "contributors" heading, separate from the basic instructions.

I'm not sure if CWM is compatible with the GApps. I recommend using TWRP instead.
But I have used CWM for GApps for all my ROMs so far and it hasn't been an issue. Why would this be different. My understanding is that it is just a space issue so I am wanting to know if there is a way to get this space issue resolved when even the smallest GApps was still too large (supposedly).

Trouble updating
I installed the 1/16/2015 version (PA 5.02) plus nano gapps. Most things seemed to work well, and I like the look and feel, but two or three times I have experienced periods where the battery drains even though connected to a charger. This morning, for example, the phone had been on the charger all night and was fully charged. Without disconnecting it from the charger, I checked my email and then put the phone back down. An hour or so later, the battery showed low 90's percent, even though it showed that it still was plugged in.
Yesterday I tried to update to the 2/2/2015 version. After making a backup with TWRP, I installed the 2/2 zip. I have flashed several ROMS, so I am not a complete noob, but I have never done a zip upgrade without factory reset. The upgrade seemed to succeed, but after booting, I had no gapps and my google accounts were missing. I then tried reflashing the same gapps and the systemUI fix. That got my apps back, more or less, but my google accounts still were missing and my home screen layouts all were lost. I then reverted to my pre-upgrade nandroid backup and tried again, by installing the 2/2 ROM upgrade zip, the gapps, and the systemUI fix all without rebooting in between. As before, after rebooting, my home screens were gone and (I think) my google accounts were gone. (By the way, I use the Google Launcher.)
Is upgrading from the 1/16 to 2/2 supposed to require reinstallation of gapps and adding back of accounts, home screen setups, etc? If it is then such an upgrade is almost as much hassle as a complete, clean install. Can someone tell me how this is supposed to work?
I installed the Lollipop rom (and the UI patch) and am still having "Can't connect to camera" issues. occasionally, rebooting the phone helps, but then if I do something like switch from the back camera to the front, it will stop working again.

There are issues with the gapps backup script, so the gapps package should be flashed with every ROM update. The loss of gapps most likely caused your accounts and home screen to be removed.

This should only happen when using the front facing camera. This will be fixed next update.
Bummer
Losing home screens and accounts every time an update is flashed is a bummer. Putting everything back (accounts, home screens, Power Toggles settings, ...) makes me hesitate to try an update very often.
You say the problem is with gapps. Does this same problem occur with all flavors of ROMs and all flavors of gapps? I ask because my previous experience with installing ROMs has been installation of new ROMs, not updates to one already installed.
Incorrect information in battery monitor - PA 5
I've been using (and generally liking) the PA 5 for several weeks. I have noted, however, that the breakdown of battery usage, as reported by the OS, seems inaccurate. As just one example, yesterday, I started a 15-minute call shortly after unplugging my phone from the charger, with a full battery. At the end of the call, I was down to about 90% battery. That seems reasonable to me, based on past experience. The battery monitor said almost all of my battery consumption was for Cell Standby, though, with only a little consumption assigned to actual phone use. I've seen some other examples where the usage breakdown did not seem right, although I did not document them and do not recall exact details.
Am I correct that this is incorrect behavior? Are others experiencing this (or does anyone pay attention to it), either on this ROM or on other ROMs?

Sweep2wake feature
Sir, I have problem with Sweep2wake features. when enabled, after i locked my device. the screen wakes when i press either one of the dedicated buttons. even when i enabled the first & last button to wake. hope you can fix this issue. thank you & more power.
I followed the CM path through CM 11 on my S3 d2lte, then ran into problems with GPS after a nightly and couldn't resolve the issue. I moved to AICP and loved the ROM, but had more problems there, and now I'm seeing random reboots, plus the ROM seems to have been abandoned, possibly in favor of developing for Android 5.0.
I know this is not a "new" device, and it's been nice overall for almost two years, but I'm wondering if there's a ROM that might help me enjoy and get the most out of the time I have left with it, without constantly fighting with problems. Also, any stable experience with 5.0 builds?

I've tried more than one build on 5.0 myself and the same issue I had with each one, random reboots and issues with calling. I've been told to update to the NE1 modem but I won't go any higher than ML1.
I've ran nearly every rom out there, I've even went with the stable CM official versions and while they ran fine for a good two weeks or so after that the random reboots started happening again, the latest one I'm on is BlissStalk and so far after about almost 2 weeks I've had not one random reboot (knock on wood) and hoping it stays that way. I could suggest an older 4.3 rom which I never seemed to have an reboots on no matter how long I ran the rom. The choice is truly yours in the end

Thanks, ShapesBlue. May try this, esp. if there aren't any other suggestions. BTW, the latest Chrome on Windows doesn't seem to like the Bliss downloads:
Bliss_gapps.4.4.4.zip is malicious, and Chrome has blocked it. (same for the d2lte ROM zip).

That's kind of messed up. Wonder what the problem is inside those zip files.

Try downloading it directly to your phone and adding it to the external SD, Windows tends to block .zip files so there is no surprise there

Right. It's easy enough to override, even in Windows; just hadn't seen this in Chrome before.

Yea I noticed this in Windows 7 and now 8 as becoming more of an issue. MS finally got some brains lol

For Masta's builds you have to update to the latest modem for it to function properly. As for a good stable 4.4.4 rom, I really enjoy dirty unicorn last build. It comes with its on custom kernal & I've never had any issues. I would give it a test & let me know what you think

I flashed DU 4.4.4 7.8 unofficial (latest) last night using TWRP 2.6.3.1, followed instructions, after wiping everything but internal & external SD storage. Since then, no mobile signal, and "no service"/"emergency calls only"; Google Play thinks the phone has "no carrier".
BTW, after the install, also tried to update to latest TWRP (2.8.3.0) following their instructions to make sure that recovery wasn't a problem, but GooManager is full of "can't find recovery for your device"/"404"/"not found" errors. I had to download a separate app to re-flash the new recovery
image file. Anyway, I re-flashed with updated TWRP, still no signal.

Yea goo manager stopped being supported awhile back. They moved onto JRummys version of the same thing. I was going to say you'd have to be on the latest version of twrp but you've already done that. I just refuse to update to the latest modem, I'll be on ML1 forever

What modem are you on? Ne1

Why not NE1?

Yes. Is NE1 that bad?
Also, what firmware is recommended these days? Noticed that the latest versions of the latest firmware and modem ZIPs do not pass ZIP verification; tried multiple different sources.
Actually I'm getting a better signal with ne1

Here is the fix for data
Suddenly..a wild baseband appears! http://www.invisiblek.org/firmware/d2/d2vzw_NE1_modem.zip (flash in your favorite recovery)
RIL works with the latest baseband (NE1, above) as of the 20140910 nightly (correct, as of this post that build is not yet available)
Manual fix to use NE1 baseband on older than 20140910 builds:
I had to do the fix for DU to get service.

Thanks. Does this ZIP pass verification for you on flashing? Just wondering as other versions of the same modem file from xda threads did not (as mentioned earlier), but after disabling verification the ZIP seemed to flash fine. Same for the MF1 firmware files.
I just installed mastamoon's CM 12 build, which is really nice, and I seem to have good mobile with NE1, but problems I've seen on other ROMs are popping up with this one too (can't get GPS to lock, and can't get USB data transfer working). I'm wondering if a bad firmware/modem image is screwing with the phone, and whether there's a modem and/or firmware image ZIP somewhere that passes verification?
Which ROM's were you on that you had issues with GPS and usb transfer?

CM11, AICP, and now this CM12 build.
btw, flashed the latest modem and firmware files on that invisiblek site: both still failed ZIP verification, and both still installed/flashed successfully, but didn't change my GPS or USB situation.

Same for me.
Well, at this point it might be prudent to odin back to stock. I had to do it a couple months ago, had the brilliant idea to encrypt my phone. It took me about 2 hrs to get the phone back to normal. You have to run casual again to unlock, install recovery, install firmware, flash any current ROM.
Hi guys, been off the scene for quite a while, so please forgive me if I'm not really up to date with the latest.
I own a OPO anad currently I have Cyanogen 12.0 installed. Lately my phone started to play up, not sure if I got some kind of malware but I thought it was a good occasion to update my ROM. Historically, I've always used CM but they seem to have disappeared completely (they used to have a nice website with all the phone models and the corresponding compatible ROMs, but I suppose that since when they went out of business things might have changed quite a bit). Can they be found somewhere? If not, I'd appreciate any advice on what ROM would be good to have - considering though that even my Teamwin Recovery needs updating as somehow it thinks I'm on an older version of android.
Cheers

Firstly,this should be in QnA..
Secondly,
For latest recovery,
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/recovery-twrp-3-0-3-k1-t3563692
Recommended rom- https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...m-kernel-unofficial-lineageos-14-1-3-t3626403
thanks, do I need to install the recovery first and then the ROM? Also, are there any instructions for the recovery here or should I have a look on the net?
thanks
