Xt296 phone - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a XT296 (Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD) phone from Verizon. *I bought the phone used from eBay at full price. *I'm trying to determine if my phone is a developer model. Is there a way I can check this? If not, considering that the phone itself was bought off-contract, could I use this as a reason to convince Verizon or Motorola to provide me the ability to unlock the bootloader?
Thanks in advance.

If its a Dev Edition its written on the back. And no they wouldn't let you unlock the BL 'cuz if they allowed you they would have to allow others too. Only Dev & XT925 can be unlocked.

Can the AT&T HTC One X be carrier unlocked for use in China?

I'm considering buying the AT&T HTC One X, but I'm moving to China soon. Will I be able to carrier unlock this in some way in the next month so I can use it on, for instance, China Mobile? And if so, will I be able to take advantage of 3G?
Sorry about the noob question! I tried searching all over here and Google first but couldn't find any answers.
So far I haven't actually had much luck. I tried with cellunlocker.net and they tried multiple databases and had to refund my money.
So, hopefully a sim unlock is available via other unlockers or soon.
International one x doesn't work in china?

Bootloader is still locked. AT&T wont unlock it not yet proabaly soon. Planning to use this for Tmobile as well.
How familiar with china are you? China has their own kind of cdma and I don't know if they even have gsm carriers there. You'll need to see what kind of carrier you'll be using over there, and no there is no way to carrier unlock the one x nor will there be anytime soon.

It covers the hassle I am currently working with to attempt to get the HTC One X from AT&T sim-unlocked.

[Q] How to unlock RAZR HD(not developer edition)?

Hey guys,
I want to use my razr hd locked to FIDO in Canada in another carrier, so I want to unlock the device.
Without going to companies that offers unlocking code for like $10, are there any ways to unlock by myself free?
I'm a software developer.
Thanks in advance!
Cheers

Not that I've found. It's worth just spending the $8 imo.
Hi there where can you get the $8 unlock code from?

I got mine from
Ebay for about 7$
I thought you were talking about unlocking the bootloader for a sec (which should be possible with the Fido one).
I also say spend the $8 for the carrier unlock. Got without eating out for a day. Problem solved.
Anyway, I bought a phone locked to AT&T and wanted to use it on Fido/Rogers and I simply called AT&T to get the unlock code. Maybe Fido will do the same? I don't know...
Thread moved. Please post your questions here in Q&A in future.
Thanks

Cannot unlock bootloader

I've been using the Moto G as a second phone for a while now but now my HTC One isn't working ill be using it as my primary phone for a while.
Never got around to unlocking bootloader, rooting, etc until now, went to unlock bootloader and it's giving me a message saying the bootloader cannot be unlocked, WTF i assumed all Moto G bootloaders could be unlocked, bought it on Tesco UK website and got the phone unlocked to all networks, it's the 8GB model, is there anything i can do here folks?
Has this not happened to anyone else? It said I didn't qualify for unlocking.

The verizon cdma models can't be unlocked either.
There is a bounty here to try and find a developer to unlock
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2669498
Can't believe this ****, how can some Tesco UK models be unlocked no problem and mine can't.
Maybe if I contact Motorola direct they might be able to shed some light on the issue.
If it's a case can't unlock it I'll never buy a Motorola phone ever again.

Try exchanging it, might get lucky.
Doubt they'll exchange it at this stage.
I've been reading that if you try a few times it might work, there's no reason why a Tesco UK Moto G can't be unlocked bootloader, Verizon in USA but I've not heard of any Tesco.

[Q] Who locked the bootloader?

First, I am amazed at all the folks who contribute here. Thank you for sharing you knowledge and assistance with those of us that are less knowledgeable. With regard to all the discussion on the locked bootloader - my question is: Who is really responsible for the bootloader being locked - Motorola or Verizon?
I have a Maxx on 4.4 11/2013 build (won't take the 4.4.4 update and lose WP off) and tried to see if I could get my bootloader unlocked by Moto or Verizon and both just pointed fingers at each other and neither offered any possibility of unlocking, no surprise there I guess. Being a 2013 build the Chinaman method is out for me 8-( But still - just who really is to blame for the locked bootloader?
Secondary question - since the phone is boot locked doesn't that pretty much make it impossible to move to another carrier? Is the new law the President just signed supposed to stop this nonsense? Can I push the issue armed with this law now in effect with either Verizon or Moto since unlocking a phone is supposed to be legal and allowed?
Thanks for your thoughts...

GSM unlocking is required by law once the customers obligations are completed allowing the phone to goto another carrier if the phone is physically able to run on the carriers network.
That is what I read on a couple of other sites a couple days ago. Our maxx from my understanding came new GSM unlocked from VZW.
Bootloader unlocking and carrier unlocking are not the same thing. All moto's are bootloader unlocked and moto gives the option to void your warranty and get an unlock code from them directly. Verizon does not allow this and won't allow moto to unlock those devices. Perfectly legal and really nothing you can do about it other than buy a dev edition.

So are you suggesting that I should be able to take my Maxx, pop in a T-Mobile GSM and be able to run with it??? I didn't think it worked like that. How would updates be handled, by Verizon or T-Mobile?
I know a few folks managed to get the Maxx on T-Mobile, but presumed that was only after unlocking the BL and then flashing a ported ROM.

So you're suggesting that Verizon is ultimately responsible and prevents the unlocking of the BL??? And isn't it true that since the BL is locked I am prevented from taking my device to another carrier and using THEIR version of Android. Doesn't that fly in the face of the new law? In the end, with a locked BL I am essentially tied in perpetuity to Verizon if I want to use the phone I paid full price for.
All 4G phones with the 700 mhz band from Verizon are SIM unlocked out of the box. Just put a T-Mobile SIM in your Maxx and add the appropriate APN. No fuss. I've tested this on my own Maxx and LG G3.
The bootloader being locked has nothing to do with the SIM unlock.

Nearly all Verizon LTE phones are Sim unlocked right out of the box...yes, you can take your Maxx and pop in an ATT or T Mobile Sim and run with it...after applying the proper APN of course...
As far as updates, no carrier is under any obligation to update phones...you'd be on your own in that regard.
I imagine you could still update via WiFi from Verizon though..
Well that bit of advice from the two posts above is disheartening. I was hoping that the new law would have some effect on forcing either Moto or Verizon to unlock the bootloader.
I love what the Droid Maxx has in it, but the policy of locking the device and restricting its use is akin to buying a car but then being told you can only use Shell gas or Firestone tires on it. It's my friggin' car!!! But oh if you spend more for the Dev Edition of the car, you can use any gas you want!
I know I am whining to the choir....:crying:

No it wasn't - the Dev Edition was $649.00 when the Standard was $499.00 and whats worse, the Dev Edition has been pulled from Motorola's web site and you cannot even buy it anymore. Check out the Motorola site yourself.... Very Disappointing... They even redirect you straight to Verizon's website to purchase the standard version...

Sm-a716u1 locked to AT&t. Please help with SIM unlock!!!

I bought my Samsung Galaxy A71 5G from a refurbished phone seller on ebay only to find out that it was locked to AT&T. I want to use the phone with boost mobile. Phone does NOT have bad ESN so I will not be in trouble for unlocking the phone but I can find literally find NO ONE to help me unlock it. EVEN FOR MONEY. Companies have gone through all the options to unlock with a code generator and still nothing. I guess the phone is too new or idk what but it's irritating af. I found a post on here years ago that helped me unlock a Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD (and other models), so I know the software has to be available somewhere. Someone please help!!!
ATT is the easiest carrier to get unlocks, if your phone meets their criteria, regardless you'll find that out here:
