[Q] How to unlock RAZR HD(not developer edition)? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I want to use my razr hd locked to FIDO in Canada in another carrier, so I want to unlock the device.
Without going to companies that offers unlocking code for like $10, are there any ways to unlock by myself free?
I'm a software developer.
Thanks in advance!
Cheers

Not that I've found. It's worth just spending the $8 imo.

Hi there where can you get the $8 unlock code from?
Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk 2

I got mine from
Ebay for about 7$

I thought you were talking about unlocking the bootloader for a sec (which should be possible with the Fido one).
I also say spend the $8 for the carrier unlock. Got without eating out for a day. Problem solved.
Anyway, I bought a phone locked to AT&T and wanted to use it on Fido/Rogers and I simply called AT&T to get the unlock code. Maybe Fido will do the same? I don't know...

Thread moved. Please post your questions here in Q&A in future.
Thanks

[Q] AT&T Captivate for use in EUROPE?

Hi folks
I´m new in android and want to ask if it´s possible to use a AT&T Captivate in Europe (e.g. Germany) after unlock with e.g. vodafone?
Read some threads with rooting and flash I9000 ROMs but not shure if there is way to use this phone in our local (german) network with non att sim card without any problems
Is there a CAPTIVATE ROM available with correct settings to use OUTSIDE the US?
Sorry for my noobness....
As of right now AT&T will not hand out unlock codes to sim-unlock the handset, so you'd be unable to use it with a non-AT&T sim.

sure? saw some offered on ebay UNLOCKED so i guess there is a way outside att...
@all: any proved links to unlook or user that have experience with it?
There is a thread in captivate general about sim unlocking. The ebay sellers were not able to unlock the phones and only a few lucky ones have been able to get unlock codes out of at&t by complaining. There is some sort of turbo sim device a couple of them are using though.

Call T-Mobile
If the phone is no longer under contract (the old owner finished out the contract, or the phone was bought full price, or whatever) they are pretty helpful with unlocking them, at least in the USA.
agreed. call the carrier and if your nice and have been with the carrier long enough they usually can help you out.
My Defy came from Argentina... No chances to get an unlock code... Does anyone know another way to unlock Defy? Actually mine is just like an IPod

[Q] Nexus S Unlock? [Solved]

Is it possible to SIM unlock a Nexus S that's locked to T-Mobile without asking T-Mobile for/buying an unlock code? Would the SGS unlock method work considering the Nexus S is part of the Galaxy S family?
Thanks
The NS is already sim unlocked
From what I understand they are all unlocked regardless of whether you bought it outright or under contract.

Hi
Would this apply to the Samsung-Google Nexus phone on deal at Best Buy. The website (sorry I cannot post external links) lists this phone as Samsung - Google Nexus S Mobile Phone - Black (AT&T) and comes with a 2-yr contract
I will be in the US for a temp period; my plan is to buy a contract phone and pay the termination fee when I am done with my stay.
I need to ensure that the unit I buy can be used in India when I return.
thanks for your help!
Cheers

How can I sim unlock my HTC One X AT&T

Hello,
I have rooted my device and I have even unlocked the Bootloader, but I still think there is something that I should do and I was looking in this forum but I couldn't find anything.
So my questions are:
1) is there anything I can do to have my sim unlock?
2) if the answer to the first question is "no for now", then if I instal one of the custom roms in the forum, will the sim be unlocked then?
thanks

If you need to get SIM UNLOCK to use the phone with a different carrier you need to get an unlock code.
Unfortunately this isn't free. You can have this done by cellunlocker.net they require to get your IMEI to generate the unlock code for you device.
In about 2 hours from that point on you'll get an EMAIL with the unlock code. This will set you back by 7,99$ USD.
There you go you can now use your phone with any carrier afterward.
Cheers bud.
Sorry about the misplacement of the thread.
I know that I need an unlock code, it's just that I away from USA for couple months and going back so that's why I don't want to spend money on something for only couple months.
I thought that there exist some method in this forum which will allow me and others to have our devices sim unlocked.
It's a shame that I am a programmer but I can't do it myself because I don't know from where to start so I can sim unlock my own device.
If someone is willing to guide me through some hacking tutorials, I will be very happy to learn how to hack myself and I would love to share my hacking work with others but the question is from where should I start.
still looking for a potential help if possible
No problem. The likely hood that you'll find what your looking for are quite slim to none at this present time. Cheers mate.
Use www.cellunlocker.net
I unlocked my ATT HTC One X through them.. They are legitimate and the code they provide works .... cost abt 11$... but definitely worth it... they sent me the carrier unlock code in abt an hour...

There is no free method at this time. Some folks are working on it, look for the thread in Development. But at this time, you will need to use a paid service if you want it SIM unlocked.
It only costs $11. What's your alternative, not use your One X for a couple months? Even if you have a backup phone that is SIM unlocked, my guess is that you will end up wishing you had spent the $11 so that you can use your awesome One X!
$7 on Ebay, i got my code in a matter of minutes.
Sent from my HTC One X
Is this unlock code a permanent same-as-factory-unlock carrier unlock? In other words, flashing some type of radio, rom, boot loader, etc will not re-lock this phone to a carrier?
How do these services and ebay vendors get an unlock code? I'm not looking to do this myself, but I just thought that these phones have unlock codes that are controlled by htc and held in some database. So I'm not sure what these companies are doing.
unlock code bought online = unlock forever even if you factory reset or w/e you kids do with your smartphones these days.
^ What he said, permanent.
Long live the One X
Thanks to everyone.
I will just wait because I am carrying 2 devices with me all the time anyway so it does not effect me at all, I thought there is a free way, plus I am going back to the US in few weeks and I will be using AT&T again.
For me $7 is less than 2 packs of cigarettes, so to me it's like free
Long live the One X
Ya not doing it because you don't want to spend seven dollars is pretty crazy IMO
Even if it wasn't permanent, its not like the unlock code changes if you flash a radio/rom, you'd just have to re enter.
I just want to know how to do for the sake of knowing how to do it... I figure there's several services out there that do it and all the ask for is the carrier and IMEI so there must be fairly easy way to do it...
?
If I've ever had a legit need to sim unlock, such as overseas travel, I simply call my provider and they just tell me the code.

[Q] Who locked the bootloader?

First, I am amazed at all the folks who contribute here. Thank you for sharing you knowledge and assistance with those of us that are less knowledgeable. With regard to all the discussion on the locked bootloader - my question is: Who is really responsible for the bootloader being locked - Motorola or Verizon?
I have a Maxx on 4.4 11/2013 build (won't take the 4.4.4 update and lose WP off) and tried to see if I could get my bootloader unlocked by Moto or Verizon and both just pointed fingers at each other and neither offered any possibility of unlocking, no surprise there I guess. Being a 2013 build the Chinaman method is out for me 8-( But still - just who really is to blame for the locked bootloader?
Secondary question - since the phone is boot locked doesn't that pretty much make it impossible to move to another carrier? Is the new law the President just signed supposed to stop this nonsense? Can I push the issue armed with this law now in effect with either Verizon or Moto since unlocking a phone is supposed to be legal and allowed?
Thanks for your thoughts...
Trebor
GSM unlocking is required by law once the customers obligations are completed allowing the phone to goto another carrier if the phone is physically able to run on the carriers network.
That is what I read on a couple of other sites a couple days ago. Our maxx from my understanding came new GSM unlocked from VZW.
Bootloader unlocking and carrier unlocking are not the same thing. All moto's are bootloader unlocked and moto gives the option to void your warranty and get an unlock code from them directly. Verizon does not allow this and won't allow moto to unlock those devices. Perfectly legal and really nothing you can do about it other than buy a dev edition.

So are you suggesting that I should be able to take my Maxx, pop in a T-Mobile GSM and be able to run with it??? I didn't think it worked like that. How would updates be handled, by Verizon or T-Mobile?
I know a few folks managed to get the Maxx on T-Mobile, but presumed that was only after unlocking the BL and then flashing a ported ROM.

So you're suggesting that Verizon is ultimately responsible and prevents the unlocking of the BL??? And isn't it true that since the BL is locked I am prevented from taking my device to another carrier and using THEIR version of Android. Doesn't that fly in the face of the new law? In the end, with a locked BL I am essentially tied in perpetuity to Verizon if I want to use the phone I paid full price for.
All 4G phones with the 700 mhz band from Verizon are SIM unlocked out of the box. Just put a T-Mobile SIM in your Maxx and add the appropriate APN. No fuss. I've tested this on my own Maxx and LG G3.
The bootloader being locked has nothing to do with the SIM unlock.

Nearly all Verizon LTE phones are Sim unlocked right out of the box...yes, you can take your Maxx and pop in an ATT or T Mobile Sim and run with it...after applying the proper APN of course...
As far as updates, no carrier is under any obligation to update phones...you'd be on your own in that regard.
I imagine you could still update via WiFi from Verizon though..
Well that bit of advice from the two posts above is disheartening. I was hoping that the new law would have some effect on forcing either Moto or Verizon to unlock the bootloader.
I love what the Droid Maxx has in it, but the policy of locking the device and restricting its use is akin to buying a car but then being told you can only use Shell gas or Firestone tires on it. It's my friggin' car!!! But oh if you spend more for the Dev Edition of the car, you can use any gas you want!
I know I am whining to the choir....:crying:

No it wasn't - the Dev Edition was $649.00 when the Standard was $499.00 and whats worse, the Dev Edition has been pulled from Motorola's web site and you cannot even buy it anymore. Check out the Motorola site yourself.... Very Disappointing... They even redirect you straight to Verizon's website to purchase the standard version...
