Boost speeds compaired to..?
The hox has a 2.4ghz/5ghz wireless radio. You can use n on 2.4ghz or 5 ghz with the phone.
"dual band" just means you can use those two frequencies on the router simultaneously. So... For example... You can have wireless g internet on the 2.4ghz band and wireless n on 5ghz.
The faster speeds you're talking about come when using 5ghz wireless n on the router.
What router were you looking at?
Honestly using regular 2.4ghz wireless g you won't notice a difference with the hox...

I have a dual band router. Its bad.5GHz band didn't even work on my hox. I'd get full signal but couldn't access the internet. On 2.4GHz I'd get low unreliable signal but could access sites.
Don't buy engenius lll

example if i have a single ban Wifi N router.
since HOX supports 5Ghz wifi N,
will there be an increase wifi speed if i use a Dual band Wifi N ?

I have the Asus RT-N66U Wireless N Dual Band Gigabit Router, and running on 5Ghz no problems at all.
There is no speed increase in speed, but when you have lots of devices, a dual band router helps, at lest in my case. My phone and my desktop runs on 5Ghz, but the rest of the devices run on 2.4Ghz

thanks Max,
assuming you both have a wifi ac router and wifi ac smartphone.
do you think the wifi ac will increase wifi speed compare to the standard wifi N ?

This. No point is going ac just for the phone.
As to your question, the only reason dual band would improve your speed is if you have other devices (laptops, etc) on your network that are not using 5ghz n.

I know the specs list Wifi 802.11n, but does anyone know if it supports 5GHz or does it just support 2.4GHz?
I was never able to connect when i had my router switched to 5GHz so I doubt it.
Same problem... my wife's mytouch 4g can see and connect to 5ghz but not my galaxy s 4g. I've been searching but haven't found out if it's just software or hardware.

My evo and my SGS4G couldn't.
Thanks guys!
Do you know if this is something that can be changed? What is the reason my wife's mytouch 4g can connect to 5ghz but we cannot?

Maybe a dumb question but is there a way to boost WiFi detection through the device so I can connect to a WiFi hotspot from a further distance? Any suggestions?

Thanks. I just did that and it worked a bit better. Wasn't sure if there was a plug in adapter I could get for my phone or not.

it will say 4G if you see speedtests of 4 mbits or better you have it.
Well if I go into setting it says spa as the signal type or something like that but I get the high in speed test and it does say 4g

Mine always says HSPA. I went up to Massachusetts for a couple of days and was getting 8 MB/s on speedtest and it still said HSPA.
The slow data is because of your VPN connection. Disconnect your VPN and the speeds will dramatically skyrocket

Hey guys,
am i able to use my 5Ghz wi-fi network with Vipers or is the problem that i don't find it hardware related?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
WiFi is working on viper Rom, also tethering is working on viper Rom. Umm not sure I understand your question to clearly but if your asking if WiFi is working on viper, yes it is. You should be able to use your WiFi. Is it not working correctly? Or your network not being recognized?

I meant, that i have 2 networks with my w-lan router. A 2,4Ghz and a 5Ghz network. I want to use the second one but my sensation doesn't find it but my father's one x finds it, so i want to know if this problem is kernel or software related.

I'm pretty sure the sensation can only run on 2.4GHz frequencies. It's still fast though as it has 802.11 N capabilities. It's def a hardware thing, I didn't even know 5GHz frequency networks existed. What's the difference?
Its hardware related to the phone. My old myTouch 4g had the 5GHz WiFi band. As far as icanttinkofaname 5GHz WiFi has been around for a while starting with 802.11a then again in 802.11N and now with 802.11ac being able to transfer files upto 1.3GB/s
AFAIK Htc sensation is not compatible (hardware speaking)with 5ghz band..

Could be a weak signal in general, are you gar from the router? Did you flash a custom rom?

Most likely the router. Mine does it too, a lot. but it isn't as bad now that I flashed the radio from 2.20
no, i have no custom rom and i am pretty close to the router

It fixed most of mine :3, my router doesn't have an external antenna, which accounts for the sometimes not connecting. Before on the 1.85 radio it was unbearable

Use best WiFi performance under WiFi advanced settings and it will go away. Drains battery a bit. But I never drop WiFi using it

Do you have any battery saver application?
I was getting WiFi disconnecting issues, but yesterday I flashed DD-WRT on my old linksys WRT54G router and the issue seems to have gone away.
So my issue was the router, for some of you guys it may be flashing a radio on your phone.

Mine is set to channel 6 and mixed network mode. Maybe that could make a difference, but I think it is now starting to have issues again. It was fine up until now, no changes have been made. WiFi signal fluctuates from full to only one bar while standing in the same spot.

I'm using a linksys wrt 320n running dd-wrt. The network used to have problems until 18.abn pointed out I had accidentally musconfigured the n network. Now that I made the channel width 20 MHz (which is still 72mbps) and set the channel statically it works perfectly fine with my 2.20 radio + ril. Zero disconnects without using best WiFi performance.
