[Q] Xperia J Ram ? - Sony Xperia Miro, Tipo (Dual), J, E

as everywhere ram is Noticed 512Mb but why we have only 390~ MB ??
is rest of mb ram use for system hack ? or 512Mb ram is just fake rumor ?

Use AOSP roms like CM10 and you will get you 512 MB RAM back. Stock ROM reserves RAM for itself.

Cm10 also have only 380~ MB Ram :'(

Remaining is used as video memory.

Remaining RAM is allocated for various system tasks which cannot be accessed by your applications and hence it doesn't even show as part of the available free RAM.
Think of your 100 GB HDD. Now partition it into 80 GB for yourself and 20 GB for someone else. You cant use the 20 GB. It's in use for something else already.

thanks to everyone Now i Understand

[Q] available memory only showing less than 400m

How come my transformer onlyy show less than 400m memory available in the task killer?. I removed all the Widgets and haven't install any extra apps besides angry bird games. The available memory still showing less than 500M. Hows your transformer available memory show?
With 512 MB RAM you get 100-250 MB of free RAM, so >400MB is more than enough for everything !
And you have 1GB for USE not for FREE/USELESS ...

It is.. but the graphics and the OS take up a chunk of it don't forget.
I've seen this question pop up on ever forum for every 1GB device I've looked at so far. There's 1GB of RAM minus what the GPU uses minus what the OS uses. Should be an automatic sticky.

[Q] Free memory (RAM)

Pls post your available memory (RAM) and total memory with the rom u'r using.
I'm using leedroid 4G 3.3.3
Total memory 621 MB
Available memory ~125 MB
Can total memory different from rom to rom? I thought it should be 768MB but mine shows only 621 MB.
I've got 620 total and 345 available with CM7.

You will never see the 768 of ram as over 100mb are set aside for the OS. It is this way with all phones. While it may have say 768mb of ram the USER available ram if normally a few hundred less. I normally have around the 621 total and about 200-300 available.
On phone restart and Apps Killed:
Used: 160-180mb
Free 400mb
A couple Snappys. Hope it Helps!

There is nothing wrong with having that amount of RAM. It all depends on what you keep running. I don't do any fb so I don't have it running a lot of updates. I also don't use and have removed a lot of HTC sense
Thanks for the answer.
On starting I normally have a little over 400 but once everything loads and I've ended what I want out I'm sitting between 290 and 370 the big gap is if I kill everything or just kill stuff I rarely use.

Amount of RAM

Everything I have seen on the internet (including HTC's own specs page) shows the EVO SHift having 512 MB of RAM. However, it seems as if my system only has 368 MB (as detected by V6 Supercharger and a couple hardware info apps I downloaded from the market). Does anybody know why this would be the case? My phone is newer (just got it a little over a month ago). Could HTC have lessened the amount of RAM in the new Shifts?
Also, I am running MikShifted-G v1.6 if that makes any difference.
Mine says I have 367,haha, i believe it might only show total available after all the system android stuff... I am probally wrong because I have AOSP which is so much smaller and less bloated that your sense and i have less.. Haha.. But idk... Just speculation

mine shows,
internal 452/321 free
rom 410/91.9 free
This might help explain things better

Thanks for the link, but I'm just talking about total RAM, not amount free. Everything indicates I have 368 MB of RAM (not internal storage or ROM or anything, but actual RAM). The Evo Shift supposedly has 512 MB, but I know the HTC Merge has 368 MB, so I was wondering if they lowered the RAM on the newer Shifts.
To check the RAM, download the app Android System Info. It is not Internal Memory, but RAM. Mine says Max 368 MB.
My mistake

Has anyone added more ram? Ive seen 1 gig sticks for$38. I might have to try if noone else has. Curious if it might speed the shift up.?

They're talking about internal memory on the phone. Are you talking about an sdcard?
Its possible the gpu has an amount dedicated to it that will not be shown. Sort of like checking the ram on a laptop will show less than the stated specs

[Q] How much RAM has Xperia miro?

On GSMarena (and everywhere on internet) I saw that Xperia Miro has 512 MB of RAM, but every app (like Watchdog, Go Launcher) that I used shows 401 MB of RAM. I have STOCK Android, no root. Is 111MB of RAM used by OS or it's something else?

The memory figure for anything (RAM, HDD, SSD and what not), is only an approximation. During production of these memory devices, the actual value is almost always less than the figure given by the OEM. Having said that, the OS may have certain uses of the RAM but are not displayed on the task manager.
The carrier may limit the ram, I know the HTC dream was limited to 384mb by tmobile

Approximation of by 10% is very lousy approximation. On PC if you have 3GB of RAM you have ~3GB of RAM, not 2.7GB of RAM but memory figure for HDD and SSD are shown in TB but they are really in TiB (TB=1024 GB and TiB=1000 GB, ...). Does on your phone, your RAM memory figure is smaller in task manager because of OS?

[Q]Is there a way to increase the ram size? from 882 to 970+?

I have been researching this for months now,
Some phones have 1 GB but the available ram for the OS and apps is normally less. Like the Moto G, the available ram is only 882 mb
I have had phones in the past that has 1 GB ram and the available ram is more than 970 mb (Chinese brands)
I want to make use of the most of the 1 GB the phone has even if its on the cost of other things, like the GPU memory.
If someone can help that would be really beneficial.
Thank you

I posted this in the wrong section and I cant find a way to delete it?
Those ~100MB are most likely used by system/kernel. Maybe some are used for the graphics processing. I cant tell more.
You can get more swap space using zram. With latest CM build I have ~100MB of swap.
You must ask to a dev like faux, this is a "kernel stuff"
wrong section buddy...
Wrong section but, the ram it shows available it's really the ram available... The left ram is used for system things, which is why it isnt showed. Not sure it can be raised up
Wait for delta roh and arbir to add the moto g in their TURBO BOOST, it could increase the ram of my old one v of 200+ mb (it uses data and cache swap)
