with stock kernel? stock voltages?

I wanted to ask this same question. Currently on CM10.1 Nightly (03/02) and I really like it, quite stable.
But I want to know what the fastest/nicest/smoothest ROM you guys have experienced or are currently rocking on the Nexus S.

I'm happy with slim bean 4.2.2
After 4 days, my battery was still 30%

Silencers automic gb 5.0 ^^ plus doomkernel v22

nice I'll test it :fingers-crossed:
Now I'm testing xylon but after change something in the camera settings, the galery fc..
Testing HellyBean now

Helly Bean with kernel included as some said before. Row-Interactive OC at 1,3GHz

I am running Xylon 4.2.2 with the Devil kernel and it appears to be very responsive stable and smooth. I have tested it's performance and am not dissapointed. Xylon by itself (stock kernel) is barely able to load, but is fast with the kernel flash over... I use it as my daily driver, no worries as of yet.

Battery?

How long does your battery holds on Helly Bean? And do you have a stock battery or you buy a better one?

Is there a link?

Latest vhgomez with sprint ota kernel. No bells and whistles but definitely most stable and best battery. Can't wait till devs start to play with this kernel.

I have had zero issues with vhgomez's builds, AOKP Milestone 2, and now Apex. All rock solid.
bixie rom (apex) v1.0.0 + matr1x kernel v.16 rocks for me!

AOKP M3 w/ Sprint OTA Kernel has been incredibly stable for me, with great battery as well. gonna try matrix 16 and see how that goes.

You tested all these but didn't notice any difference? Then what does it matter if we suggest you something?
Want fast, smooth and stable? Don't need any extra feature? Then stock. Why look elsewhere.

I'm not saying that i didn't notice any difference but actually i tested all these over a month... so i don't actually remember the best one.. i'm just confused.. also i was looking for the community's opinions... what in your opinion would be the best... well correction stable is not for the matter... FAST AND SMOOTH IS ALL I WANT And so i am looking for a combo which gives me that..
thanks !
Try my rom...
Or any other cm10 rom with bedalus kernel...

If you're just looking for smooth, stable and minimal features: Rasbeanjelly with either trinity kernel or bedalus kernel.
Try stock rooted with marmite kernel or latest aokp with the same kernel.

This. Much faster and smoother than stock plus it has a few extra goodies.

[Q] antutu benchmark test arrgg!!

I did a bench mark test using antutu, my nexus s that was currently running paranoid 2.54 and marmite 7.1.3 came up with a very humble score of 3138 , compared to others that was 4000 and higher,, how do they do that? I wish i could optimize my phone like that.

ROM: Paranoid Android 2.54
Kernel: Stock @ 1200mhz
How do you that? surely its not just the rom and kernel combo?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
No tweaks.
When i took that benchmark i was on PA 2.54 with stock kernel, OC'd @ 1200mhz, that's it.
Governor: Performance, I/O Scheduler: Deadline
I also got i9023 btw.

When i said stock kernel, i meant i didn't flash any kernel.
I used the stock one PA provided (same kernel CM10 uses)

Stock or Custom ??

Hi all, i have 2 Nexus S... 1 is with stock rom 4.1.1 and other one is with custom rom 4.2.1 ..... the one with stock rom is faster than the other... i m confused... should i flash my other nexus s with stock rom ??? is stock rom really faster than custom ? please anyone give me a link of stock 4.1.1 flashable rom ???

i have a custom 4.2.1 rom installed.
while its not notably faster than stock 4.1.1, it sure isnt slower. maybe you can improve it with another kernel?

I recommend (4.1.2 because 4.1.1 have some bugs):
- STOCK 4.1.2 - 100.1% Google experience
- kwbr Nexus S 1.0 :: Stock :: JB 4.1.2 :: JZO54K
4.2 ROMs are not the best for speed even with some "famous" kernel.. but I think that in the near future this situation will change.. a lot of users says the same when 4.1 was released...
sorry for very bad english..
is this flshable via CWM recovery ??

I'm very happy with the combination of the latest SlimBean and Marmite 7.3 (non-CM version, using it at 1096 Mhz, with the new row scheduler and smartassv2). You should definitely try this out before you go back to stock. I think it is a lot smoother than the stock rom, not to mention all the great features you get. It's also very stable, haven't had a single reboot, altough I use OC.
Plus what's the point having a nexus device and not running the latest software?
Custom ROM like jelly shot 2.8 with marmite kernel 7.3 over clocked to 1.3 GHz but I don't see the difference with a stock 1ghz

you can't just say custom and expect to get away with it
all custom roms aren't the same, some get good performance, some get bad performance, some get horrible performance and some get great performance. it all depends on the rom
jellyshot is the custom rom i m using

When you say "faster" what do you mean by that?
For me Jellyshot, Rasbeanjelly, and SmokeHolo ROMs are faster in UI, but slower when using 3rd party apps, specially games.; while on CM10.1, Baked BB7, Helly_Bean, and PA2.99, UI is a bit slower (stutters occasionally) but 3rd party apps are noticeably snappier.
faster in sense of playing games no lags

And your signature says Something else
I switched from 4.2.2 back to Cyanogen 9 and it's running just as fast and reliably as Gingerbread.
I am in 4.2.2, with Jelly Shot crespo ROM and Marmit kernel - so smoth and fast. Except Gingerbread, the battery consumption is also better.
4.2.2 is better !!!
Running on a smooth CM 10.1 with Air Kernel. Fly's most of the time with a few hiccups here and there

Me Gusta!
Carbon is nearly as smooth as Jellyshot (really hard to match them) but is so fast and virtually bug free (I haven't encountered any yet).. On benchmarks it tests higher for me than any other 4.2 rom (not that this means too much). And is still full of features... And best of all it is great with battery life.. I installed it on less than 50% (granted not heavy useage) but I got more than twenty hours (six of those I was asleep).. I am charging it up and will see how it does on screen time..
On full charge (Devil Kernel {ondemand/deadline 1000/100) over 48 hours!!! semi-light usage
Check out GamerzROM, based on CM 10.1 and it's awesomely fast...
Im not quite sure, CARBON ROM is pretty snappy, its up there with AOKP
I find helly bean pretty smooth...smother than ICS at least!
Do you guys think carbon is smoother than helly bean?

I find it smoother, the initial release, the nightlies are a bit buggy and not as fast.. Jellyshot is the smoothest rom, but not as fast as Carbon, but it's boot time is faster..

I have an updated list of Roms, all based on my testing and are not meant to be disrespectful to developers as all Roms have their own merit based on each user...
(Each rom is tested on stock kernel and Devil kernel using Antutu for benchmarks)

Nearly, it tests on antutu within a couple hundred point difference with Devil kernel, but is nearly identical stock...
I think that the new JellyShot 4.5 is faster than the Carbon, I tested both with marmite 7.3 because the >8 versions eats too much battery
