I updated my AT&T HOX last evening and I've already stumbled upon some bugs:
1. The wall charger and USB cables I used with ICS no longer charge my phone. I left my phone charged the whole night and it went up from 14% to 30%...
2. There is no way to remove debugging mode when connecting the device to the PC.
3. The taskbar time is delayed. When I woke up (incidentally as you will see in section 4) it was 5:59AM. My hand watch said 7:20...
4. The alarm clock never went off! luckily my biological clock was running on time. It might have to do with the fact that Tasker, which I have running silent mode until 7:00AM then back to normal mode after that, takes its time from the taskbar (5:59). This is a pretty fundamental and basic phone function.
5. There is a new icon on my notifications bar. I have no idea what it does...
I have a screenshot attached for section 3,4,5 .
Anybody have this sort of behavior on their device too?
I'm not on the AT&T 3.18 OTA, but I've been on a couple different 3.17 base custom and stock-rooted ROMs, and haven't noticed any of these problems.
If you updated by OTA (which your probably did) consider backing up your personal data, and doing a factory reset. Many (although not all) random bugs can be traced back to incompatibilities of existing apps and settings with the OTA, that a factory reset and starting fresh will resolve. Updating with keeping user data (although convenient) is really a messy way to do it. A fresh slate gets the best results.
The new icon is for NFC. You can just go into Settings and turn of NFC. No idea why they have it "on" by default on the OTA. Might have to do with AT&T's Isis plans.

I have had a problem occur a couple of times today that has never happened before. I have an extended battery installed(3500mAh). After 2 hours of not using the phone this morning after I pulled it from the charger I noticed the battery was down to 86% when it should have been still at 95% or higher. About an hour after that I went to make a call and the phone would not unlock. In fact it would not respond to any gesture or button push. I had to pull the battery to get it to boot up again. That freezing up has happened twice today. Once with the extended battery and once with the stock battery. Should I wipe the data and start all over again? Or is there another solution?
Have you installed any new programs recently?
No nothing for a couple of weeks now.
Still having a lot of freezes. Should I go to the security settings and tell it to do a factory reset and then start over again with rooting and customizing?
just out of curiosity did you reinstall the location services?
No. The only things I added back in after the last flash were the ringtone trimmer, sound recorder, and the sprint tv.
one thing that I noticed when I had my phone hooked up to ddms looking at the debug log I had a RSS reader app that was add supported and every 30 seconds it would search for and dowload a new add. once I got rid of that app it seemed to help.
another thing that really helped was I downloaded an app called "overclock" it let me set my CPU to 528 when the screen was active really helping with the speed and how fluid the scroll in menu's is, but it also lets you set it to like 128 when the screen is off. seems to really help with battery life as well.
What is throwing me for a loop is that the phone sleeps like it is supposed and I have verified this with spare parts show I am not sure why all of a sudden the battery is draining much faster than before. As far as the lockups, they are just temporary freezes, it locks and I have to remove the battery to get it to reboot.
Well I wiped the data then flashed to the newest sprint rom(1.56) and then rooted again. I then wiped data again and then flashed to fresh 1.1 and installed my apps and setup my home screens. So far no problems and it seems to run a lot faster and smoother.
Quick off-topic question:
When you say "wipe your data" does that mean you rm the /data directory? Or what? Just curious
No. I used Wipe in the recovery screen.
i just did a upgrade on my hero too from fresh 1.0 to 1.1
when you select wipe data from recovery mode, besides wiping data with option 1, do you choose option 2 as well ? wipe dev something. i wasnt sure what the 2nd wipe option is for, so i did the first option only and it only took 2 sec to complete that step. my phone is up and running with fresh 1.1 without any issues, so did i do it rite ? just outta curiosity
The second one is the cache. I think it gets rebuilt anyway on the first boot with fresh installed.
I, personally, loved the MIUI & CyanogenMod but they, in my opinion, have their downfalls.
MIUI: No app drawer, I like having just 1 page on the homescreen & all the excess apps/games in the drawer, but its layout (customization options (lockscreen/homescreen wallpaper, themed messaging app), bootlogo, etc.) is great but, the worst part was the simple fact that it would be fine over night, then the next day it started booting out the wifi, phone or even put my phone into airplane mode which I could not get out of no matter how many reboots or battery pulls I did.
CyanogenMod: No texting or phone calls at all, it has been awhile since I used it but it either could send & not receive texts/calls or vice-versa, either way just like w/ MIUI, its awesome in every other aspect.
I was just wondering if there are any other custom ROMs for the Samsung Mesmerize SCH-i500, in particular, that are similar to those two, themed and/or fully customizable options, I can't think of the words I'm looking for, I guess a standalone custom ROM that is FULLY STABLE (calls, texts, wifi, bluetooth, no AUTOMATIC airplane mode, etc. I mean EVERYTHING FULLY WORKING) for my, above mentioned, phone, does not have to be debloated/dexed/deodexed, either way.
i am running miui 1.12.9 with glitch kernel v13.1 EH09 radio
for what i use it all works. sms, bt, mms (wifi off), phone, alarm clock, etc..
miui control panel for the app drawer feature. maybe if you had an older version you might want to check out this newer one.
but as for other roms i have not tried any, if i get bored i might try something else but not until i read up on it so i know what im getting into.

I was using MIUI.us_mesmerizemtd_1.12.9_Eng_Deo_ZipA_Signed_dfgas-911fix and it was about 2:30 in the morning when I finally fully restored to stock rooted 2.3.4 Gingerbread, wiped data, cache partition dalvik cache and finally rebooted after installing MIUI, I finally went to sleep at 5 in the morning after setting it all up.
I awoke at about noon & it was still running fine but I ran busybox installer so I could update the su binary & had to reboot, this was roughly between 3 - 3:30 in the afternoon &, after reboot, it just started f***ing up.
Absolutely no phone signal at all, I tried the phone activation code but it was never activated, wifi, even right next to the router, was not detected, tried a few reboots but nothing, it kept saying it was in airplane mode, when I opened the notification bar, deactivated airplane mode, it never turned back on again but only in the notification bar, in the settings menu, after turning it off & exiting the menu or going to another menu, regardless if it was from within the settings menu or not it automatically switched back on when I returned back to it, I don't know, if I can get it to work, I can live without the app drawer, its just that good to me.
I even tried the MIUI360P_ENHv3.1_universal_s enhancer thing but that just mad it so that, I forgot exactly what it was called, something about com.android.phone. (something) process kept having to be force closed but every time I pressed force close within 2 or 3 seconds it did it again & it kept repeating this over & over again, I had to pull the battery just to get out of it, but by what I saw in the forums after I tried it, its actually meant for Samsung Galaxy S II I9000, whereas I have the Samsung Galaxy S I i500, I kind of rushed into it in the hopes that it would fix the issues.
Hello there everyone. I've had my HTC Sensation since September and so far it has been a very enjoyable experience, with only one abnormal reset. However, in the past two days, some weird stuff has happened.
Every once in a while, I see the stock lockscreen flicker over my current screen (Even in an app). It is currently disabled by WidgetLocker as well.
The first day I had installed SweeterHome 2, StatusBar +, and also the application Faster Drawer. The first reset happened as I went to open Faster Drawer (Not for the first time, however). It then rebooted, but things seemed to work fine. Also, the app Profile Scheduler was no longer able to change the screen brightness when I clicked on a profile, just the other settings. I had to go into Android settings to do it manually. (There I found the slider down to 0 as I wanted it, and when I touched it, the screen brightness lowered to where it was supposed to be)
The second reset happened today and was even weirder. I was looking through my Minimal Reader widget when I was interrupted by the white and green HTC boot logo, and the phone took a few minutes to reset. When it came to, all of my widgets were gone, and replaced by "Tap to restore" squares (On both WidgetLocker and SweeterHome 2)
I really have no clue what is going on, though I am very disappointed by the reboots, especially for losing the widgets (Basically my entire homescreen was made of them, it will take a long time to restore). The only thing I messed with was the Accessibility applications; I had to check the one for StatusBar + and I clicked the one for WidgetSoid Notifications, but then disabled it. (Which by the way, the WidgetSoid notification toggles no longer work until I use the system toggle for data, then I can start using them)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am using a stock, unrooted HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile, running 2.3.4, and it had that firmware update by T-Mobile a few months ago.

the most ugly thing is i saw it with another sensation user in my famely to before i bought my phone. it got sended away by warrenty got back prob solved but more arised it began also after couple months. mine started doing it i rooted/s-off mine and started testing roms wich one feld like i wanted to use. because of quick changing i cound watch that after an rom from here the prob got solved so here are my suggestions:
1 send it and maybe get a worse phone back(telling from experience)
2 root/s-off test some roms and away goes problem
The issue just became worse. This time, without a reset, my WidgetLocker widgets were lost again, and replaced by the "Tap to restore" dialog. I was playing music at the time with the screen off (no other apps running), and it was not interrupted. When I went to unlock the phone, they were gone.
Any thoughts? This seems like a pretty serious issue to me. I'd like to stay stock since I don't have the money to replace the phone if something were to go wrong.
Try removin the apps and see if that helps, you seem to have alot on there that removes or modifies functionality
This thread was originally titled "System wide problems", please see the reply for the solution.
Original post:
"Hi all,
Been forever since I've made a post to XDA, but I have a problem I'm not able to solve without taking an inconvenient plunge. I should mention that my phone was 100% fine yesterday evening, but since I was asleep last night it seems to have run out of battery, so this morning I charged it a bit, then I turned it on to a world of problems.
Ok, so let me run through a list of just a handful of the problems I'm having right now...
Totally stock (not rooted) Nexus 5 running Android 6.0.1 (Security: 1 March 2016)
1. Home and App switch soft keys don't work
2. Notifcations are not working at all
3. Notification shade wont pull down
4. Widgets cannot, and will not load
5. Cannot get into Developer options "Developer options are not available for this user"
Seems I'm not the only one to experience the strange bug, some folks over at Android Central were experiencing the exact same thing toward the end of last year.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...me-button-not-working-many-more-problems.html
Some people to have resolved this issue using "adb shell am start -n com.google.android.setupwizard/.SetupWizardTestActivity" but I cannot get into Developer options to turn on USB Debugging (unless I don't need to?)
What I've tried already...
1. Cleared all Google App data "CLEAR ALL DATA"
2. Tried to make another user, just flashes and goes back to "Opula" my main and broken user profile, never creates the other profile, same thing happens when I press on Guest too
3. Safe mode, but the problem persists there too
4. Virus scan, turned up a whole lot of nothing
I'm now at the point where I'm thinking I'm going to have to do a Factory data reset (the "inconvenient plunge"), even though I think I've backed everything up the "Touch to sync" option on my Account > Google doesn't do anything, neither does the "Sync now" from the drop down menu. So despite having explored my Google account on my desktop I cannot see if it has backed up my Apps and App data, but it seems to have backed up my contacts and such.
I'm going to get a third party app to back up as stuff as I possibly can as well, but even Helium is useless now since I cannot get into the Developer options so enable USB debugging.
Anyone got any experience with this issue or how to resolve it?
Many thanks to everyone in advance."
Hi all,
Just wanted to update this thread to say that I did a factory reset and the phone is now fixed, but I wouldn't to give a more comprehensive account of the problems I was experiencing with the phone until I did the factory reset.
List of problems
Home and app-switch soft keys not working (back key is working)
Google Now 'on tap' not appearing (cause of home key)
Cannot see notifications just says "No notifications" (but the light and sound work fine when a notification is received)
Cannot pull down notification shade to toggle controls
Widgets cannot be added and will not load
Cannot pull down the immersive mode overlay
Google Backup not working (after 8+ days)
All types of syncing not working
Phone's storage doesn't appear on PC when plugged in via USB
Cannot access developer options (due to active profile level)
Cannot create or switch users
The best advice I can give to mitigate such an unusual problem (that appeared totally out of the blue on a cold boot) is use Google Backup services, keep on top of syncing, and manage your data via your Google account! Or as an alternative, manage and maintain manual backups.
All,
First time poster, frequent visitor of XDA Forums. I've come across an odd issue that I don't know how to solve and I'm hoping some of you smarter than me folks can get me squared away.
I have a Galaxy S8+ from AT&T running Android 7.0 and Samsung Experience 8.1.
Problem:
I've recently noticed a delay or completely non-updating interface on my phone. It updates on occasion, but I can't determine what triggers an update. For example, I will pick up my phone from the desk and when I press the power button it shows the accurate time. When I unlock the device, the sense flip clock I use on the main home screen shows an earlier time (could be 30 minutes... could be a few hours). I don't believe it's just the Sense app because I noticed this issue where I checked a facebook messenger app that came and and when I closed the app, it still showed I had 1 notification. I went back in thinking I had another new message, but I didn't. So it was still hanging on to the notification. It happened a couple times with a text message as well. Most importantly, my calendar doesn't alert me prior to an appointment either, even though it's showing in my calendar and an alert is active. If I save an event, and exit, I can normally see the event appear on the on widget immediately as well... but that hasn't been happening. I have to press the widget to open it and confirm it is there (which it always is). Eventually it refreshes and shows up. But that delay is likely the reason why I'm not getting my alerts.
All of this did seem to happen after a recent update Samsung/AT&T pushed out but I don't know for sure. I tried clearing the cache from the boot menu but it doesn't seem there is wide success with that.
And perhaps I'm just not a good enough user, but everything isn't all backed up in the cloud so doing the factory reset to me is always a fairly large task as I have many things to manually transfer out and then back in. Not sure if there are great tools that help with this on a stock phone.
BUMP
try disabling battery optimization for those apps.
It seems that you have several bugs and if they all start happening after you have installed the latest update, then expect a patch coming soon.

I have actually done that. Found very limited success. I'm also finding very few results on this topic. Surely it's not just me though.
And I'm dreading the idea of a hard reset as I have many things on my phones, not all of which is sync'd to the cloud so it's a task to back things up appropriate. Specifically regarding "encrypted" apps like my password keeper app etc.
It would be great if there was a software application that allowed you to backup whatever is necessary to not lose data, then wipe the phone and instead of just simply restoring the full phone (which is likely to create the same problem one had before the hard reset), you could simply dump back in app data as needed. It would also help diagnose if the problem lies in a specific app's data.
High level overview of issues...
I have the Ring Doorbell app. I get notifications after "live". Could be 5 minutes, could be 1 hour... or possibly not at all. I have the app setup on my wife's iPhone and she gets them immediately. If I restart the phone, I will get notified right away (it's like it runs the app again and then I get the notification). Keep in mind, this is AFTER i disabled the battery optimization feature for the Ring app.
I also notice it occasionally with texting. I won't have any text notification in the notification panel, nor will my messaging icon have a little red circle indicating a message is there. But if I open the app, a specification conversation will have a red circle indicating a new text is unread.
All of this is leading me to believe the Samsung UI itself is not updating and therefore notifications that actually have arrived (from whatever app), are not displaying because of the UI and not because of their own delay.
Because of this concern I have turned off battery optimization for "System UI", "Themes", and "TouchWiz Home". I have not seen any change however.
[Solved]
I was able to determine by various other threads around the web (thought for sure I'd find it here, but I didn't) that the culprit might be the Google app. Supposedly it was fixed in some prior release, but it's not on my Galaxy S8+ w/ AT&T.
Once I disabled the Google app all the odd issues with notifications and clock interfaces and app icons not updating went away. The downside to disabling it is that I lose the Google Assistant functionality which stinks but otherwise there is no impact to using the phone. I re-enabled it at a later date and it worked fine for a few days and then started acting up again. Once I disabled it, the problems all disappeared. Clearly Google app is to blame.
