[Discuss]Which feature do you prefer most before buying new android phone? - General Topics

Before getting yourself a brand new android, which unique feature do you like to be efficient/brilliant/superior?
Camera?
Processor?
RAM?
Firmware?
Display?
Any other?
You can say that we want all, but we can't get all outstanding or superior features in a single mobile. For some mobiles the processor is excellent but camera lags in quality when compared to others. Similarly some mobiles have excellent performance but their display will be of low resolution.
So we have to give up on some features and give preference to other features. In that concept which one will you choose if you have to choose any from the above mentioned?
I choose speed (processor).:good:
What about you?

I will not look at 1 spec. Buying a new phone takes time for me. First i see what my budget will be, and look for phones in that pricerange. I visually select a few. Out of those i filter phones that are actively beeing developed here, and then i will start to compare specs. The phone i select will be the one standing out with both low price and high specs. Probably a HTC Firmware on the other hand will not be an issue. We are on XDA ffs. I can flash whatever i like. This is, in my eyes, the best way to select a phone.
Sent from my HTC Desire with Tapatalk Red because my XDA Premium app is beeing a female dog!

Big screen, super AMOLED, GPS, Firmware, That is all I need

Well, I usually look for a good processor and good graphics. But I also look at the other things too like the price, because I don't want to be wasting my money on something that isn't worth it.

I take a lot of different specs into account when I purchase a new phone. One that seems to be ranking pretty high for me recently is the camera. Having a high quality camera has become more important for me as I have been trying to catalog my life a little more thoroughly.

I think another important feature is the processor. The faster a phone is, the less lag there will be. I will also say that since I enjoy trying out different ROMs, that having a phone that is highly supported by the aftermarket development is great!

Agreed!!:good:

Community support, ext.sd., and removable battery are all pretty high for me.
External can be overlooked if the phone boasts 64GB, but locked battery means the phone has too short a lifespan for my needs.
Community support should be obvious...
Other specs are mostly a matter of price and patience, cpu, gpu, screen res etc are always improved almost monthly.

Yeah. That's a very good option for all the enthusiastic users who go for custom roms as well as for developers!

In terms of computing hardware, I look for good balance and value for each money.
Otherwise, no removable battery is a dealbreaker. I really make use of e ability to have spare batteries (and the option for a compact extendes battery - instead of one that needs to use the micro-usb port).
No slot for a micro sd card is also a dealbreaker. It's too useful to not have. I can't stream everything all the time. I mean, right now I'm on a train and we're sitting in the middle of nowhere and I only have 2g - I was watching Netflix for a good 3 hours, but 4g isn't everywhere. It's nice to be able to load my music on the external sd (and videos on an external sd on my tablet) and not have to compromise.

Are you tied to a contract at all with your N4? The specs appear to be better on the newer phones, but you must hold strong and stay away from hype and read some good Vs. reviews. Personally I'd hold on another year to the N4 (quality, solid, well supported device) and see what next year has to offer.

I understand on personal choice but coming from iPhone I don't know to much on the background of each device... On a general opinion which device has better performance base on previous devices... That's all I'm asking... I though I have the best android but honestly my wife's GS3 looks faster and better battery than mine... But I don't like the look and color options... I understand but what might be a better performer for me may be different for someone else and previous devices don't matter, now is what matters. All the reviews online will help you more, trust me. And the nexus 4, HTC One and galaxy s 4 are all fast phones so it won't even matter. What matters is if you like stock android, if you like sense or touchwiz, if you're ok with a plastic phone or if you need a premium looking phone, if you need the best performer in the camera... there are so many factors here and again we all have different opinions, even some of us are having a hard time choosing but if speed is what you're looking for than the nexus 4 is very fast I can tell you that now.

well I spent a about two hours playing with both phones, both were very good phones, what made
the HTC stand out to me was first pinch and zoom , when i did this on the S4 it would not realign the
words into a single column , which meant i had to scroll side ways on the website while I read a article. I used CNet , Fox news , phonenet , TechRadar to test..
next was the sound ,
For such small speakers , the HTC One put out decent sound, makes it nice if you just want some back ground music
with out having to use the headphones...granted I use it in semi-quite environments ..
The S4 had a plastic feel to it while the HTC one felt really solid, you can twist the S4 where the HTC One you cannot..
I did give the S4 a solid going over, it did have a kinda cool thing where it would follow your eye movement, it work but
but needed improvement... I would have rather seen Samsung spend money on the phone then marketing
like a metal case.. and HTC gives you the tools to unlock the boot.
Depe ds on your preference. One has the stronger body, and S4 has a removable back, which means interchanging batteries, and getting custom designed backs for it. The S4 also has a micro sd (sorry if this was mentioned, for I'm only skimming through), which the One provides more storage for the same price.
The S4 focuses much more on the software features, while the One focuses more on the design of the hardware and software without being too intrusive or overbearing. Sense 5 UI found on the One is pretty sweet and lighter than previous versions of Sense, and also lighter than TouchWiz. TouchWiz is much more fun to explore with the many things that you can do with it.
They both have similar processor, with an exception of the clock speeds (the S4 is 200MHz faster, but the average user - and even some power users - will not tell the difference.
I'm intentionally omitting my preference, for that is irrelevant to your decision. I'm not trying to influence your decision, but provide my unbiased opinions. (Hopefully, no one has enough insight to my decision...)

If you can live with the 4 MP camera of HTC One then go for it. That's the only weak point of One against S4 I believe.

Chip configuration, lag?

I want this phone. Badly. I have a ONE, and really dig it but battery is its downfall. I'm curious to see how this phone performs with this chip set. I am not a gamer, with exception of angry birds, but use the dog out of my phone on Internet, watching videos, etc. I'm thinking I won't be able to see a difference in 720 screen, but am curious if there is discernable lag with lack of processing power. Anyone's opinions are appreciated.
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Performance is fine. Don't sweat it. It's a fast, modern processor.
Cool. Just cautious on the first model of any new tech
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
To be honest the other vendors are adding so much crap on top of android that they need the extra power. As you can see the extra power doesn't really help because even the gs4 lags. Moto did a great job of taking hardware and building software that works specifically for it. It shows how powerful a phone can be without all the extra gimmicks and cores... This phone is a beast. I would like to see any phone be as fluent as this one minus an iPhone.
Sent from my XT1080 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
To be Honest, I just cam from a s4 and believe it or not, I havent had an lag or stuttering from the ultra like I did with the s4. Besides the camera. I think the ultra is a better phone. I cant tell the difference between the 1080p and the 720p screens.
I have experienced exactly 0 lag since I bought the phone last weekend with heavy web usage. It feels snappier than my nexus 4.

[DISCUSSION] What is the killer feature that it made you buy the note 3 and its bigge

not joking, huge improvement from Galaxy Note 1 / Galaxy S2
CAT-4 LTE, the removable battery and expandable storage (though the battery life on this thing is so much better than my GNexus that I doubt I'll ever need a second battery) all played a big part.
However if I'm honest, I'd figured I was getting a phablet way back in may but I was torn between the Note 3 or the One Max - I loved the design of the One and yes, the non-removable battery and non-expandable storage were sucky but I figured if they released a bigger version of it, I'd be sold.
Then IFA came and went and HTC announced nothing. Then rumours circulated that it would have a downgraded processor and after seeing the Note 3, I decided I'd waited long enough.
I'm pretty sure the exact moment I made my mind up (And this will sound stupid) was when I seen that it had a USB3 port instead.
I'd planned not to get it but it's just so damn gorgeous looking I couldn't resist. Display, s-pen and battery life are all an improvement over the Note 2 and I have 32gb internal storage now so all good.

my opinion
Samsung galaxy note 3 is an all rounder device..has almost everything..
sony z1 and lg 2 are also very good but lacks some important features..like lg g2 doesn't have external sd and sony z1 display is not as good as Samsung(personal opinion so pls don't start an argument)..and i watched many reviews where they claimed the sony z1 camera is not as good as what sony is claiming..
on the other hand, Samsung has s-pen and unique multitasking features..
in my country lg g2 and sony z1 both are cheaper than gn3..but i still bought gn3 as it has everything i want..and lacks nothing (although ois in camera wud have been a nice addition)

Why no off-topic thread for GN3? Should be there somewhere, I just can't find it now.
Having the 1020 ( and my wife still uses the Nokia 808) and the Note 3 the results seem pretty legit.
I don't know why they included the 1020 on the test, Nokia is 2 generations ahead in this field. There is no way to compare the 41mpx PureView sensor to the other sensors in the pack ( 6 lens optics by CZ perfectly augments the sensor resolution). Most of them are Sony BSI and the difference in IQ is 90% made by software and 10% processing power. For now, nothing is worth comparing to 1020/808.
Note 3 takes good pix on daylight, but on the other hand, it's almost useless at night. For the functionality of the Note 3 and its sector, the camera is the best out there no question asked.
Iphonearena thinks otherwise. They have placed iphone 5s on top.
