certainly it belongs in the top 3 which makes me think why other sites namely phonearena ignores the video recording aspect when they rank phones in terms of camera, anything to make the iphone rank higher

Great outdoor camera, i find it pretty crappy in low light without flash. Pics look almost cartoon when zoomed in.

OT:
I didn't want to open a new thread for such a small issue. Did you guys check the new Note commercial, looks great to me.
Why no off-topic thread for GN3? Should be there somewhere, I just can't find it now.

Having the 1020 ( and my wife still uses the Nokia 808) and the Note 3 the results seem pretty legit.
I don't know why they included the 1020 on the test, Nokia is 2 generations ahead in this field. There is no way to compare the 41mpx PureView sensor to the other sensors in the pack ( 6 lens optics by CZ perfectly augments the sensor resolution). Most of them are Sony BSI and the difference in IQ is 90% made by software and 10% processing power. For now, nothing is worth comparing to 1020/808.
Note 3 takes good pix on daylight, but on the other hand, it's almost useless at night. For the functionality of the Note 3 and its sector, the camera is the best out there no question asked.

Iphonearena thinks otherwise. They have placed iphone 5s on top.

Not quite sure I understand your comments. The iphone ranks second last, just ahead of the HTC One. I have the HTC One and the camera is mediocre at best. Even night shots aren't as good as advertised.

+1, night time shots suck unfortunately. but thats pretty much the case with all phone cameras.

One thing iPhone is good at is speed of taking pictures.
I used to have a one and pics where quite mixed.
Not really tested the note 3 yet.

How is the Note3 for action shots? The S4 had very noticeable shutter lag and it made action shots near impossible.

I disagree, I too had an iphone 4s. IMO this camera is just as good, with more features. But to each his own!
Ive taken several pictures and videos. I think the camera is great and super responsive. As soon as I touch the shutter button the picture is already taken and in my photo gallery.
The zoom on it is fairly decent too.
Maybe we could use this thread for people to post what custom settings are working for them. I hear the camera needs a little adjustment out of the box.

I just wish it had hold to focus like the Galaxy Nexus (it was there in early and later versions, but gone after one of the updates). It worked very well. I like to be more in control of the focus. But the burst mode kind of makes up for it. I don't use it much but it could be pretty handy.
I love this camera as well, but I will say the focus is a bit of a problem. Any slight movement and focus is gone and it has to try again. Great for stills though
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Seems like it has a tendency to overexpose especially when outside. May need to keep it at -1 on exposure.
I'm pretty happy with the speed. No shutter lag at all! The Note would have motion blur sometimes in direct sunlight.
The quality, when viewed on a pc, is very good also. Still need more time to play, but I'm a pretty happy camper right now.

Thanks for the tip. I noticed it kept refocusing while i already had my daughter in the center of the frame(of course three year olds move a lot)
I took about 150 photos yesterday at the Highline in NYC and can definitely say the camera is awesome. Nearly as good as my Canon S90. Have never had an iPhone to compare, but my iPhone owning friends were very impressed.

The only thing I ever use my FFC for really is face unlock and honestly, once you set that up and snap a few shots of yourself in diff lighting, etc. It recognizes you almost IMMEDIATELY. Also, I take some shots of myself with my ffc every now and again when I'm out and about... In bright natural light it looks pretty good. Look at it this way too, the iPhone 4S has a 0.3mpx ffc as well.
I agree, the quality isnt that bad if you have good lighting. Cant expect too much from a phone almost 2 years old

Honestly the 4s ffc blows the sensation big time.. but also the sensation tends to get quite dusty so before i use ffc i take back cover off clean the dust from the lenses and voila !

[Discuss]Which feature do you prefer most before buying new android phone?

Before getting yourself a brand new android, which unique feature do you like to be efficient/brilliant/superior?
Camera?
Processor?
RAM?
Firmware?
Display?
Any other?
You can say that we want all, but we can't get all outstanding or superior features in a single mobile. For some mobiles the processor is excellent but camera lags in quality when compared to others. Similarly some mobiles have excellent performance but their display will be of low resolution.
So we have to give up on some features and give preference to other features. In that concept which one will you choose if you have to choose any from the above mentioned?
I choose speed (processor).:good:
What about you?
I will not look at 1 spec. Buying a new phone takes time for me. First i see what my budget will be, and look for phones in that pricerange. I visually select a few. Out of those i filter phones that are actively beeing developed here, and then i will start to compare specs. The phone i select will be the one standing out with both low price and high specs. Probably a HTC Firmware on the other hand will not be an issue. We are on XDA ffs. I can flash whatever i like. This is, in my eyes, the best way to select a phone.
Sent from my HTC Desire with Tapatalk Red because my XDA Premium app is beeing a female dog!
Big screen, super AMOLED, GPS, Firmware, That is all I need
Well, I usually look for a good processor and good graphics. But I also look at the other things too like the price, because I don't want to be wasting my money on something that isn't worth it.
Most important

I take a lot of different specs into account when I purchase a new phone. One that seems to be ranking pretty high for me recently is the camera. Having a high quality camera has become more important for me as I have been trying to catalog my life a little more thoroughly.

I think another important feature is the processor. The faster a phone is, the less lag there will be. I will also say that since I enjoy trying out different ROMs, that having a phone that is highly supported by the aftermarket development is great!

Agreed!!:good:
Community support, ext.sd., and removable battery are all pretty high for me.
External can be overlooked if the phone boasts 64GB, but locked battery means the phone has too short a lifespan for my needs.
Community support should be obvious...
Other specs are mostly a matter of price and patience, cpu, gpu, screen res etc are always improved almost monthly.

Yeah. That's a very good option for all the enthusiastic users who go for custom roms as well as for developers!
In terms of computing hardware, I look for good balance and value for each money.
Otherwise, no removable battery is a dealbreaker. I really make use of e ability to have spare batteries (and the option for a compact extendes battery - instead of one that needs to use the micro-usb port).
No slot for a micro sd card is also a dealbreaker. It's too useful to not have. I can't stream everything all the time. I mean, right now I'm on a train and we're sitting in the middle of nowhere and I only have 2g - I was watching Netflix for a good 3 hours, but 4g isn't everywhere. It's nice to be able to load my music on the external sd (and videos on an external sd on my tablet) and not have to compromise.

l had two issues with my beloved Note II. One was the relatively low ppi for such a big screen, and the other was the handling of the device in my hand. Note III for me is simply amazing in every single aspect.
Is the N3 bigger then the N2 or same size??
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
On papers it's a but narrower and thinner and it's taller by 1 mm only. However, it feels bigger in my hand (my opinion) and more difficult to handle. I guess because the angles are not curved as they used to be on note2.
And also because the screen is bigger, it gives you feeling that the device is much bigger than its predecessor. I feel the note2 design is more friendly to the hands. That's my only negative thought I have against the note2. Otherwise, the device is amazing. Silky smooth, great camera, battery will last a full day no matter how much you use it, S pen improvement....etc

It is slightly taller, a little less wide and thick
It comes with an easy open ASP?
That's a great way to fend off would be phone thieves... Include a retractable police baton.
How are you guys liking the magazine feature and new Gallery?
For me the fact that is a tad narrower and the back is not glossy which slips from my hands but this leather-feel plastic, makes the grip much more easy. This is what I have read in the articles and what I found out myself using it. Still u can't use the device with one hand w/o the one hand operation, but it feels so much safer in my hands and easier to handle.
I forgot to mention the amazing 4k video. It's simply stunning and my Dell U2713 for once is put to shame!
I simply don't care about the cam so much, with which I found out, where it matters, (in the low light that is) it's nothing sort of great.
But overall Note III seems like a faster, better, well polished version of Note II with bleeding edge tech. What else can someone ask? Seriously..
Amazing Phone
The screen of the Galaxy Note 3 is amazing, also the battery life. Its just Wow. And ofcourse the S pen is alot better, coming from note 2 & galaxy s4. Its very fast switching apps and stuff, didnt saw any stutter (Now I have this phone 2 days). I flashed Stock rom from sammobile. overal great Phone really liking it. Moto X Style/Pure Camera Photo Samples

All I have to say, is that the camera on this thing looks like it does an awesome job to me!
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
Yep I agree! Some of those samples look really sharp & detailed to me but I'm not really that picky about smart phone cameras. I think the cam on my nexus 6 is pretty good so I'm looking forward to the pure edition quite a bit.
Since I use the phone for basically all my "photography" (if we want to call it that ). I like a good quality camera. But given I'm uploading to Google Photos. I hope they don't diminish the quality of photos too much. I'm using the "unlimited" option, so Google scales things down a bit if they desire.
But if I want to save off a good quality pick to the SDcard, that's a nice option to have.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
I'm considering this phone as the next one to get. As far as it goes, the camera (good or bad) is not a deal breaker for me. I don't use the camera enough to care. To each his/her own.
Disregard. I posted in the wrong forum. Wasn't paying enough attention to where I was!
The daylight and average light shots look fantastic, but the night shots aren't impressive. I feel like if we were able to get OIS we could get by with slower shutter speeds and therefor less noise.

I wish they had OIS and laser focus.
I think a 13 or 16 MP is plenty, they could focus spending the extra money on other stuff.
I hope this camera is better than the OP2 and Nexus 6 I
As long as the camera is better than the m8s (which I am almost certain it is) then that's a good enough upgrade. The m8s camera is so horrid tha its the main reason for my switch.
Well its Using Sony's new Exmor RS IMX230 which from the sample photos look damn good!!
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
camera looks really nice to me.. good enough w/o OIS.. That night mode seems pointless though
Wow, looks great! Still gonna play it safe and wait for a few reviews tho.
I don't care so much about the lack of OIS... (would have been a nice option) but I'm interested in the quality of slowmo videos (720p/120fps). I owned a Sony Xperia Z3 and there slowmo was awsome by the way "steadyshot" worked very very well !! Now I have a Note 4: pictures are looking great, video is looking great but slowmo is a shame! I think LG G4 suffers from the same problem...
I hope Moto x style will perform better in slomo...
