Yeah. I did some research and basically couldn't find any manual way of doing it. Now you have two options:
1) If you really want the official, call T-Mobile up and ask whats going on and they'll definitely fix your problem.
2) Your other option is to root your phone. Now this is a little bit risky but if you follow all the proper steps, you'll be golden. And with rooting, you can even get a Jelly Bean ROM. It basically unlocks so many features on your phone.

Hi,
Do you only want to update via HTC update,or are you willing to s-off your phone?

Just wanted the htc update im not much of a fan of rooting.

Just a thought. Are you sure you are on stock unrooted Rom? I know sometimes folks buy the sensation now used, and the previous owner may not have put the device back to S-on. That could be a reason its not updating OTA.

Im pretty sure its stock and unrooted, I thought it would be easy by doing it with a computer like samsung kies but it seems with htc ota is the only way unless i find the file some where and do it manually.

I tried but didn't work. I think it because my phone is rooted. Based on search, it looks like its a radio update and has been out for a while. I don't know why I just got the upgrade notification. Maybe it because I got my Inspire few weeks ago. I tried update via wifi and it never showed up until today.
Anyone know how I can get this update on rooted phone?

That's what I figured.
Any suggestions? I did some research and it looks like there is a patch which I could down load but its recommended that I install from ruu. What's ruu? I am not familiar with HTC terms.
RUU is Rom Update Utility. It is a stand-alone application from HTC that will basically erase everything and restore your phone to the level indicated by the application. The latest official RUU for the Inspire is (wrapped in code tags because otherwise XDA likes to split long words:
Code:
RUU_Ace_Cingular_US_1.80.502.3_Radio_12.39.60.19_26.06.04.06_M_release_166557_signed.exe
The OTA update patches this to:
Code:
OTA_Ace_Cingular_US_1_84_502_11-1_80_502_3_P_release_186225z4g9g65j9b7kolus.zip
There is no RUU for 1.84.502.11 as far as I know. You cannot install the patch unless your phone is 100% stock. It uses patch files (BSDIFF) to update the system partition and because of this, the system files must be identical to the ones the patch was made for and if even one is not there or different (think build.prop i.e.) then the whole update aborts.
The only way I know of to get a clean update is to do it as intended by HTC (pathc a 100% stock ROM with the OTA update) or use Attn1's patched version of the ROM from the dev section:

Its not an issue really. It is how the rest of the world sets their numbers. And lets not forget where HTC is. Your best bet is to just set up your numbers with the +1 in front like the rest of the world. They are not gonna change this for the few US based phones that come out. Oh and its ATT that is supposed to make those changes.

I'm pretty sure this doesn't fix it for everyone. (Definitely doesn't fix it for me.) Is there any other step besides adding +1?
All my contacts are +13333333333. The names eventually show up, but a reboot makes them disappear.
EDIT: I do agree though, it wouldn't be an issue otherwise.
For some reason when i do the check for updates it tells me my phone is up to date. I know i can download the update manually but i would rather not have to as it wipes my phone. Are their any solutions ?? Thank you in advance for anybody who assists me

You can check or keep waiting. Or you can use one of the roms that are have been based on this release and been around for over a week
does it affect the wifi hotspot tethering when adding a custom APN to all who updated officially 2.3 GB?
can anyone confirm this..Thanks

Gingerbread Update

Hey all,
My friend has the Inspire on ATT and is still waiting for his Gingerbread update. He's tried pulling it from the settings menu and no dice. Any ideas? Has ATT pulled the update?
Thanks!

It's my understanding that AT&T doesn't update their older phones. I know I hadn't received an update on mine since the day I got it. That was last August sometime.

Your gonna have to manually update via the RUU posted on HTC.com. Keep in mind that manually updating will wipe the phone. Here's the link:
http://www.htc.com/us/support/inspire-att/downloads#420
It is the second from the top. Just follow the directions on that page for applying the update.

Be aware that there were some problems with the official GB update, like the stock messaging app not recognizing known contacts. That's one of the reasons why there's such a large number of rooted Inspires.
I had the contacts issue with my inspire and finally just rooted. Now with a new Rom it works great.

I was aware because it happened with mine. That's why I started using Go SMS Pro, since rooting and flashing the ROM I have no issues. I think I'm just going to wait until they get tired of their farm game and just root it and flash a ROM to their phones as well. A lot of people I heard from before I found this site said the GB update caused a lot of issues with the Inspire.

Installing OTA 1.84 after custom recovery

Hey all,
I just finished installing the OTA update for my provider. I've seen lots of people advising to "flash stock recovery", but I wanted to go into depth a bit in case some one out there needed a hand like I could have used a few days ago.
(1) Grab the stock RUU for your phone and version from this thread by football. It's a 500mb download - you only really need ~8mb of this, but here you are. Thanks to everyone who is sharing their files! You can find your current version on Settings->About->Software Information->Software number. If you're on Fido (Canada), you want the Rogers version...since Rogers owns Fido.
(2) Follow the instructions from this guide on the Sensation Development board. I used claudenegm's (b) instructions with no difficulty.
(3) That guide suggests booting into the stock recovery and flashing the update. I tried to do this but with no luck, so I just booted into the system and had it update itself. After the update was done, I reflashed TWRP (the newest!) and root with Hasoon's toolkit and I'm good to go again.
Hope this helps someone.
Do you know where the jb ruu is for fido? Thanks

Thanks bro, it's there. I couldn't fix it way back when. I see the fix was in April 2013. Now back to learning how to fix a bricked one s. I did this to my girlfriend way back in January 2013, got a new phone, now that one is cracked , so she asked about this one. I knew that the Jellybean ruu would be available by now lol

[Q] Auto-Update: Can it be disabled?

The root for 2.20 was just released, but I won't be able to do it for a few days and I'm worried an AT&T update might fix it. Right after I got my HOX, the 2.2 update showed up and I was hesitant to accept it because I heard that the new update would stop rooting. I declined, but next time it came up it didnt ask me if I wanted to update. Is there a way to make sure this doesnt happen again?
Thanks in advance.

Everything it starts to automatically download the update factory reset and delete the part it had downloaded off your phone
There is an apk called updater or something like that. Just uninstall or freeze it, and you will never get the OTA update notifications again. This has been discussed before in multiple other threads, so do a search for the full details.
Grab Voodoo OTA rootkeeper from the play store and back up your root just in case if you are running the stock Rom. The JB update has broken root on many devices and will be coming soon for ATT One X. Voodoo has been able to restore it after JB.

Guys, he's not rooted, so Voodoo isn't going to work.
To the OP, I would not worry about a few days. AT&T and HTC do not move that fast (oh if they could--we'd have JB by now!).
