[Q] No Service, SGH-T959V, Cyanogenmod 9 SImple Mobile - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Ok, so around January 1st, I got this phone, and I Rooted it, installed CM9, and unlocked it. I have it running on simple mobile, and everything works fine (Except for the massive battery drain that CM9 provides). So I haven't had any problems, up until yesterday, when I shut the phone off for about 2 hours, and then turned it back on, to find that I wasn't getting any service. Being at my school, I figured i was just in a dead zone, and that I wouldn't worry about it, but to my suprise when I got home, i still wasn't getting any signal. So, I'm kind of a noob when it comes to like kernels, basebands etc. I'm honestly not sure if thats the correct term . But anyways, I'm not sure If I need to update like a kernel or something, or maybe there is like a Baseband update that I can flash, but I just need a little nudge in the right direction if anyone can help. Thanks!

If everything worked and doesn't and didn't change anything, it's can't be kernel or baseband.
I would go with more crappy sim card. I've went through 3 sim cards with my provider over the last 2 years. One would call, receive text messages but couldn't send. I went through new ROMs, them resetting my account, everything and got a new SIM, worked fine.

Which apn settings are you using?
I dont use the one that comes with the rom. Instead, I use the settings from simple mobile's website.

APN Settings with working MMS (Skyrocket)

Ok, for those of us that have problems connecting to non-mobile websites, this solution worked for me. I've tried so many combinations- all resulted in internet working, but no MMS. I need MMS!!!
I was also up all night with AT&T regarding this issue (still pending). So after a couple hours, multiple tries, I hung up, they said they'll call me back after they find a solution. Whatever! It was 3:30am, I was trying different combinations until I passed out. I woke up and it was working!!! Powered off & on a few times. Still working. Applied the same settings on the wife's Skyrocket and now it's all working.
Name: attwap (name it whatever you want)
APN: wap.cingular
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Menu> Save. BackButton. Select the APN you created (green dot). BackButton. Done.
Noobs - To get to APN settings: Menu> Settings> Wireless and network> Mobile Networks> Access Point Names. Menu> New APN.
I dont know if "wap.cingular" is faster than "phone" (other APN), or vice versa. I tried speedtest on both, same ballpark in my area. The point is that the internet and MMS is working. I will "settle" for this until AT&T fixes this problem. LTE not yet available in my area. They said the PTA network is brand new and they're still working out the kinks.
Hope this works for you, too.
Works great man, I spent a lot of time on this last night couldn't get both internet and mms to work.
Ditto, I ended up going back to pta because I couldn't get MMS to work on anything else.
I'm glad it worked for you guys too. I was a bit annoyed switching back and forth whenever I had to send an MMS. The trouble was my wife couldnt- didnt know how. Now life is good... for now...
Well LTE is suppose to roll out to NY in the near future so hopefully we only have to use this work around for a bit more.
APN Differences?
Thanks Mike-
Works great! Data is constant now throughout all the sites I visit, no data loss. Also MMS works! And through speedtest app my DL is very close to the other APNS here in my non-LTE market in Harrisburg, PA.
Can somebody explain or point me in the direction of the differences between the APNS: pta, phone, and wap cingular?

looks as though you can't even use the phone apn along with the those mms setting in the same profile anyway.
Worked for me also.
Seems to work for me too. I don't know much but, all this cingular stuff wouldn't suggest we are using a different network would it? And we get a bill for roaming or something lol
Cingular is AT&T.
Oh that's right lol I forgot
Got up this morning and no data. Had to restart the phone. apn still set with new settings.

After restart, did the data come back on? No problems here. Both phones working fine.
Yeah the data came back on but it just stopped working during the night for some reason

Dont think it's an APN issue. "wap.cingular" is widely used. Maybe the phone just needed a restart. I treat my phone like my computer, leave it on all day, but reboot it every once in a while... and of course, back that thing up. (I dont mean the song)
is this supposed to fix the network issue well when loading non-mlbile sites? i tested my rocket with a friend that has the htc vivid and i was completely humiliated because his thing is blazing fast.

No, not fix. Its just a work around to get your internet working with MMS still active. Not supposed to make things faster, better or orgasmic... just working.

You've been told many times on the forum, RESET DEFAULT APNS. And then one of them will be simple, and just check that one.

I tried it didnt work for me maybe my settings are wrong i will try again
You was right
sorry on the hellfire 1.2 it would not work for me i am using aokp now and it worked thank you for your time
Simple Mobile APN Configuration on the G2x
This goes out to all my broke peoples out there! Keep yo heads up, Fam, and we gonna get through these tough times together!
NOTE: This guide is for ICS-based ROMS, such as Hellfire Sandwich. This is the most highly recommended ROM for G2x right now ... according to ME!
After much trial and error--having just been forced to involuntarily abandon T-Mo US for Simple Mobile last week due to lack of having paper--the following procedure worked for me. Don't listen to NOBODY ELSE, other instructions DO NOT WORK, I know I tried them all! Especially don't go by the guide on Simple's website, they ain't got a ****in clue what they talking about either! Anyway, I hope it might help other people with the same problem.
If you currently don't see any APNs under System Settings > Wireless & Networks > More... > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names, good! Do the following procedure.
If you've already been pranking around with the APNs trying to get them to work, delete all your APNs under System Settings > Wireless & Networks > More... > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names, reboot your phone and then do the following procedure.
You must not be connected to Wi-Fi when you go through these steps.
From the APNs screen, press the Menu Button. Tap Reset to Default. Wait as much as 5-10 minutes and let the thing do its work. You should now see 2 APNs: Simple and T-Mobile US.
Now you have two APNs there, but neither of them will actually work ... yet. They're generic and now we'll need to do some tweaking.
Counter-intuitively, we're gonna ignore the APN called Simple and work with the one titled T-Mobile US. You'll understand why in a minute, trust me.
Press the Menu Button.
Tap System Settings.
Under Wireless & Networks, tap More...
Tap Mobile Networks.
Check that "Data Roaming" and "Use Only 2G Networks" are both unchecked.
Tap Access Point Names.
If you did the Reset to Default routine above, tap T-Mobile US.
Here are the settings (be careful they are case sensitive and don't put stray spaces in there or you'll be pulling out your hair wondering why it won't work, trust me on that!):
Name: Don't change, leave it as "T-Mobile US". I don't know why but the G2x seems to like it better that way.
APN: simple
proxy: 216.155.165.050
Port: 8080
Username: Don't change, leave T-Mo US setting (whatever that is) intact.
Password: Don't change, leave T-Mo US setting (whatever that is) intact.
Server: Don't change, leave T-Mo US setting (whatever that is) intact.
MMSC: http://smpl.mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMSProxy:[empty]
MMS Port: [empty]
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN Type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4
Once you finish filling all this in, press the Menu Button.
Tap Save.
This will take you back to the APNs screen.
Now tap the other APN, Simple.
When it opens up, tap the Menu Button.
Tap Delete APN.
You are done. Watch the Signal Strength indicator in the Notifications Bar. It may take a minute, but it should now turn Blue, you should get 5 bars, and your should see a tiny H appear next to it.
You're now good to go, but you can optionally reboot if you feel like it and then check if your APN is still there. If it ain't, program it again and use APNsBU or APN Manager Pro from the Market/Google Play Store to backup your APN settings for easy restoral just in case they keep vanishing.
Good luck!
Hit the "Thanks!" Button below if this helped you.

If you're on Simple Mobile it lets you use the web and mms (Multimedia Messaging Service, or "picture messaging"). If you're on T-Mo or another network, it will stop you from using the web and mms.
You say you're a n00b, don't worry my man, we all were once upon a time.... Stick around here and you won't be for long!
Check out this here link, it might help you understand this APNs subject matter: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Access_Point_Name
Good luck.
trust me, ive been a n00b in a lot of places, it will come off soon
but as for the APN, when put a new rom on i get simple and tmobile and it defaults to tmobile and i can browse the web and send mms messages
MMS Still don't work
I'm on EB ICS 4.0.4 Build3. I was having problems with apns just disappearing. I did everything as had been described earlier and my internet started working. Though apn still sometimes disappears I just hard reboot the phone and it comes back. One problem though MMS is still not working, it just keeps saying sending and never goes through. Will see, maybe there is an answer somewhere out there.
Okay so I followed the above instructions but the T-Mobile APN's are locked, there is T-Mobile Data and T-Mobile MMS - HTC Sensation 4G

im not 100% sure but it may be different on your HTC, this is the forum for the LG G2x, you might want to try asking in the HTC forum

also this is for ICS roms, are you running an ICS rom? are you rooted? or have a custom rom installed?

ICS APN Setting Simple Mobile Working
I Know The Answer But I Need Ten Post To Post Outside Links Meaning I Can't Put The Apns.. =(. But Go On Youtube This User Named muzzzmaggg Has The Video Showing You. The Name Of His Video Is How to setup APN/mobile internet and MMS on SIMPLE Mobile for HTC. It Works For Any ICS ROM. Check It Out And Follow Step By Step And Where The APN Says Not Set Make Sure It Says Not Set Instead Of None. If All Goes Well You Should Have Simple Mobile Running On Your ICS ROM. It Has Worked On 5 Devices So I Know It Works On ICS 4.0.3 And 4.04 Etc..

[Q] lg g2x on straight talk

Let the yelling begin. Just got my G2x from ebay
Used the Nokia E71 sim that I already own
Straighttalk tech support said I need to get a new sim and phone number.
ATT said I do not need a new sim. SO i came here
Phone works, texting works, WiFi works after setting apn= ATT.mvno

any ideas.
so if everything works, whats the problem?
the problem is no data . no internet
That would be a sim issue. You may need an unlock code to have access. Other wise check your vpns

Well alright, I just read phone works text work and so on... try putting in the apn's in??? I just googled this try looking more if it doesn't work for you. Other than that maybe SIM???

unlock code
I think the phone is unlocked. That is they way it was sold . Says t-mobile on it but when calling or txting displays att ( that is the nokia e71 sim ), and the the att.mvno that I entered .
How do I check if it is unlocked?
If its unlocked it should all work. http://www.taniwha.org.uk/gprs.html Try looking through here. US is almost all the way at the bottom. Not sure exactly what your using. Not sure if you need the sim carrier or the baseband carrier.
Edit: oh, and if you have access to the phone when you put your sim card in, you said your making calls and sending texts. Yeah, your phones unlocked. The internet thing though is a little weird.
straight talk g2x
It could be the way straighttalk connects to internet. The sim from E71 nokia works with I phones and straighttalk can't find any info why it wouldn't work with android. Thanks for your input.
Lg G2x on straighttalk setup that works
Here are the steps I used to get MMS working on Moto Backflip with Android 2.1
First download Apn Backup and Restore app from app store, and delete all existing APNs. Then manually enter APNs. In android you must have 2 apns setup for mms to work (at least in my case).
Here are my settings:
Name
HOME
APN
att.mvno
Leave everything else alone EXCEPT the bottom selection that says:
APN type (here you must enter the following)
default,supl
Then save, next choose to add another APN
make it look like this:
Name
MMS
APN
att.mvno
skip down to
MMSC
http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy
proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
MMS port
80
skip to:
APN type (enter the following)
mms
THEN SAVE
You will see that only one APN has the option to be chosen, that is ok, Just choose the one that is able to be chosen.
Now go back to Homescreen and then reboot your phone.
This works for me, hope it can help you. I tried a hundred different ways and this was it. Capitalization is important, and the APN type was the trick.
GOOD LUCK and let me know if it worked for you.
got it here: http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...w-the-proper-APN-settings-for-Android-Devices
it works 2g where I am now but I am in
Did you get the data to work? I've been considering going to ST. I've had them before, and for a prepaid company, had really good experience with the service in my area. The same can't be said for Tmo
Lg G2x on straighttalk setup that works
yes it works. The configuration I used is posted a few days ago. The speed for connection shows 2g. Other than that it works well. I am looking for the code to get 3g now. If you read the code above you will see the words tracfone. That is a 2g network ( I think ). I think I have to change that.
Well it's all the same company. Not sure how they handle that. I wonder if it might have something to do with using the SIM you used, (which would make ST right when they said you need a new one.) In any case, I'll just be buying a SIM from them to use on my phone, so maybe it'll work out fine. Unfortunately, I'm still under contract at the moment, so it may be a little while longer.
Straight Talk works well on the default Tmobile ROM, but I just upgraded to Eagles Blood and the T-Mobile SIM settings do not work at all on Straight Talk (for MMS+Internet). Does anyone know of a fix?
These are my settings:
Name: Straight Talk
APN: wap.tracfone.com
Port: 8080
MMSC: http://mms.tracfone.com
MCC: 310
MNC: 260

Strange APN [email protected]

Hi all
As a T-mobile UK customer I have been finding that I lose internet on my phone every 6 or 7 days, typically lasting for about 6 hours.
During my last converstaion with support I mentioned that i had the following in the APN settings
[email protected]
They seem to think that it might be a Tmobile USA profile and hence the problem (how the wrong APN could work for 95% of the time is beyond me).
I did take the handset to the USA last year but did not have data roaming turned on. Does anyone know how i ended up with the wrong APN? A quick google search returns no results for the APN listed...
I have since manually changed the APN and things seem ok (for now).

Whoops.... I have just found out where the the APN settings came from.
In an attempt to get my MMS working I just ran the HTC Connection Manager. For the first time in 1.5 years my MMS is working but I have noticed that my new APN settings say [email protected]
So it seems that HTC use APNs that T-mobile UK are not familiar with? Annoyingly I have no way of viewing the new APN or editing it
Does anyone know which settings the HTC connection manager uses? I am concerned that although MMS is working, if my internet connection goes down again, the UK helpdesk might just shrug their shoulders and pass the buck to HTC, who in turn will pass it back
Ok so I spoke to HTC UK today, they told that they have no way of finding out what APN their app uses, they suggested that I use the generic T-mobile APN that they have on their system, which I did and the MMS stopped working again.... so I ran their app and alll is fine again (for now).
I guess that I will have to try to email HTC. It is rather annoying that MS decided that customers shouldn't be allowed to see existing APNs.
I do have a dev account, tbh I only subscribed so that I could get mango early, if that means that I can sideload something that will show me the APN in use then please feel free to point me in the right direction.
Cheers

FIX FOR ATT APN SETTING SINCE 3G PULLED...

Hello all, Before I forget or ignore the feeling, ive been thru a week of NO DATA since ATT dropped their 3G Service...So let me begin....
This past monday, i got an auto txt from ATT about how theyre dropping 3g and their going to activate my new SIM and new phone which i didnt have at all. they mailed me a crap go phone w/ my new sim to my old address so i never got anything at all. my poco f1 was running fine untill they effed it all up. if it aint broke dont fix it lol
Come Tuesday my phone did not have any data connection whatsoever, just service. all i could do was make phone calls and that was it. luckily i have an ATT iphone for work and swapped sims, and my f1 worked again...so i called ATT service and they told me to go to my nearest store to get a new sim, which i did on wednesday. the rep waved my 5.00dollar fee and it looked like i had service, but i didnt....
i was already at home and noticed my data connection was not connected, looked thru settings and everything was appropriate. what i did notice was my apn settings were missing. all of them and it said "apn settings not available for this user" i couldnt save anything if i tried to make a new one, so i called ATT again on friday and was on the phone w/ a rep for an hour and he couldnt figure it out! made a service ticket to an engineer and i havent heard back from them yet...
i had the ****s of ATT and decided today that i go back to that same store and wouldnt u know the same rep i dealt w/ was there. i told him my whole situation again and showed him by switching sims between my work phone and my poco f1 that i do get signal except apn settings were missing. he was stumped...
we tried one thing and it actually worked! and i have data again w/ a new apn setting. so ive decided to share w/ whomever is having problems such as myself had...
i took some screenies of the apn settings for ATT...all the rep did was add new apn, and first line is "att" w/o quotes, and changed second line to "phone" that was it, i was able to save it and my 4g logo popped back up on the upper right hand side of status bar and i have data connection again...i dont get it still, but it works again. i was scared id need another phone cuz i just got my f1 not even a year ago and im in love w/ it...
i even installed a new rom and had to do the same thing over again hence is why i took the screenshots to begin with... hope this works for anyone w/ issues cuz a weeks worth of banging my head against a wall and dealing w/ morons can be quite time consuming so best of luck to all!
EDIT: you can add the other necessary info, but if you change the MNC from 280 to 410 and try to save. poof! it goes away and you have to start over again and doesnt save....

i took some screenies of the apn settings for ATT...all the rep did was add new apn, and first line is "att" w/o quotes, and changed second line to "phone" that was it, i was able to save it and my 4g logo popped back up on the upper right hand side of status bar and i have data connection again...i dont get it still, but it works again. i was scared id need another phone cuz i just got my f1 not even a year ago and im in love w/ it...
i even installed a new rom and had to do the same thing over again hence is why i took the screenshots to begin with... hope this works for anyone w/ issues cuz a weeks worth of banging my head against a wall and dealing w/ morons can be quite time consuming so best of luck to all!
EDIT: you can add the other necessary info, but if you change the MNC from 280 to 410 and try to save. poof! it goes away and you have to start over again and doesnt save....
WHAT YOU NEED TO SAVE...
NAME - ATT
APN - PHONE
MMSC - HTTP://MMSC.MOBILE.ATT.NET
PROXY - PROXY.MOBILE.ATT.NET
MMS PORT - 80
MCC - 310
MNC - 280
APN PROTOCOL - IPV4/IPV6
ROAMING PROTOCOL - IPV4
THAT SHOULD BE ALL. MAKE SURE YOU SAVE. THE APN TYPE WILL AUTOMATICALLY FILL THAT LINE IN. THIS MAY WORK FOR OTHER 4G PHONES ON ATT NETWORK. TRY IT OUT AND LOG YOUR INFO ON HERE.
