I was wondering if any of you with straighttalk reading this with an ATT Samsung infuse with the att compatible sim(provided by straight talk) could quickly hit *#*#4636#*#* then under phone settings scroll down and look for the smsc line and hit refresh and write down and post it for me. I haven't been able to text for like a week already :/
I have been using straighttalk for the past couple of months and suddenly I don't have SMS anymore I can't send or receive. My phone does say message sent but no one is receiving it. I've tried deleting my messages, factory reset changing the smsc to the AT&T settings different messaging apps and I cant get it. Customer service says the problem is my end but I'm not sure how it is from night to morning without any changes.
I'm running Scott's. 2/3/2012 build
** I am able to call and use the data
Thank you for reading and replies in advance
Have you changed your APN settings?

No I haven't I'm using the one that's provided with the ROM. Are you on straight talk? I believe only data and MMS is affected with APN settings
No, I don't use any carrier, so I'm not an expert on these things or a lot of things. But try changing your APN settings and report back.

Oh I thought you meant if i switched APN by accident. No I didn't and yes I have tried several other APN the thing that is mostly likely the cause is either a carrier block or the smsc code is changed. That's why I want someone to check their straightalk service smsc code that is using Att towers. I doubt it got blocked because its supposed unlitmed

ok buddy but that only affects the mms settings what i need is another straighttalk provider user so i can use their SMSC because mine must have got deleted or something along that line. I know Straighttalk is a MNVO so it should be close if not exactly ATT but i tried that and messages are said being sent however no one is recieving my messages and no im not recieving any messages
There is a code that corresponds to every carrier that you need to input into the smsc place, I've had the same problem. Just Google att smsc number and there should be an xda thread with it. Remember to capitalize the letter in it too.

Its not the APN settings, we had just given him the solution to the problem
Why are the apn settings changing?
And I called ST again and I guess they finally admitted to messing up the smsc code I ended up with was the AT&T smsc with lowercase f. It took them awhile

Ok guys, here is a temp fix for you to continue using the mobile hotspot. But I am not sure how long it will be able to work until it gets blocked.
Go to Settings
Mobile network
Access Point Names
New APN
set the name
set the APN to: epc.tmobile.com
save
after you save, select the new APN you created instead of T-Mobile data.
Anyone mind confirming?
yeah please confirm if this helped anyone

Bigger question is what is the new APN? epc has been the updated apn for a long time since the days of wap/internet2/3
ziddey just create the new APN with epc.tmobile.com and save it as is without any additional changes.

try it and see if it works. i'm not sure why it does but it does. you won't get the t-mobile launch page asking you to pay.
I can confirm named it the bs fix

Actually, this does work. The only difference I can see between the APN that was on the phone and the new APN created is the following:
Original APN
APN Type: default,supl,admin,hipri
Newly created APN
APN type: Not Set
I have no clue what this means, but that is the only difference I see and the newly created APN does in fact work and allow me to tether over 4G.
Also, I had purchased EasyTether a while back to use on Sprint with my HTC Hero (before I learned to root a phone), and easytether also works using a USB cable.
Thanks to the OP for finding this!!
remove admin from apn type.
Found a possible issue with this fix. When I have the newly created APN enabled, I cannot send an mms. When I select the original APN and try and resend the mms, the mms goes through.
Anyone have suggestions?

thanks for pointing that out jtress, will try to look into it.
edit: jtress i was testing it out and it does work with the current settings. i'm not sure why you are having problems with mms. does anyone else have this issue with the mms not going through?
I have no problem either

Does this still work? I've tried it and it didn't work for me when trying to go to amazon.com. I've also tried deleting the default apn and removing the apn type. I've even tried using wap.voicestream.com as the apn. So far nothing works.
My issue with the APN and not being able to send MMS, may have something to do with me being on Tmobile prepaid plan.
I can live with it this way. I very rarely use the tethering. So, if all I have to do is go in to the settings and switch the APN for the few minutes I use the tethering, I can live with that
tethering workarounds
Regarding the new tethering block, there are a few other workarounds that worked for me.
1) Change your user agent string to something mobile on your browser
2) Browse through an encrypted proxy (work VPN works great for me)
3) Use the internet for things other than HTTP and you'll be fine. (HTTPS works fine)
Confirm that it worked for me. I entered the new APN and restarted the phone and now it works like it did before. Thanks!
hey guys, does the usb tether still works after the update?
Wow I feel both dumb and extremely happy all at the same time but I got it to work! I never restarted the phone before so I guess my phone never properly set up the APN.
The way I got it to work:
1. Selected Default T-Mobile Data APN
2. Delete all of the information from the APN type
3. Reboot Phone
Thanks for reminding me to do the simple things!
Looks like the fun is over...
I had been using Wifi tethering for root users and it seemed to allow me to use it just fine. All of a sudden this morning it stopped working and I got a push notification to my phone about mobile hotspot access being blocked. Came here, found the APN settings in this thread and tried it. Worked for about 30 seconds before the same thing happened again.
Looks like they are being pretty hardcore about it now...
Anybody else experiencing this or know how to get around it still?
Hi today I got the update notice on my phone, and came here and saw yes it had officially been released.
I did see a thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801257 that said some people were having issues with the leaked version of ICS and straight talk sending and receiving mms messages.
would i have the same issue with the official update and straight talk?
anyone running the official update and straight talk?
thanks
You just need to set the APN settings. They are the same as they have always been, just in a different location, and programs like APN Backup and Restore cannot access them. It's very simple to set up...just Goolge Straight Talk APN settings Android...

so it is just a matter of entering the apn settings and MMS messages will work?
I would assume the people in the quoted thread tried to enter the apn settings and were still having the issue....is that because of the leak?
thank you for the help
After the black update, I lost the ability to send and receive MMS on my Unlocked Lumia 1020 on T-Mobile USA network. I've entered the fast.t-mobile.com APN settings on both Internet and MMS, I have 4G LTE internet working, but MMS still does not work.
Before there was a Nokia app that auto configured this for me. I can't seem to find this after the Black update, or it is baked into the system now, but for the life of me, I cannot get the MMS working with the APN settings I have. Tried both epc and fast.

I'll be going into my local T-Mobile store later today, hopefully I can get an answer from them.
I got mine working.
OK so with the access point app installed what I did was install a manual APN outside that settings app. I went to settings > cellular and pressed the add MMS APN.
Once I set it up I was able to send but not receive. Just use the APN settings available pretty much anywhere for T-Mobile. After that remove the settings all together and reboot.
I guess the APN app setting kicks in again and viola. Worked for me anyways. Hope it works for everyone else.

This weekend I moved from StraightTalk (w/ATT SIM) to ATT. Everything worked fine on ST, but now that I'm on ATT directly.. I cannot receive MMS.
I can do everything fine -- send/receive SMS, access the Internet at LTE speeds, send MMS. I've tried a bunch of APN's and my current settings are below.
Any thoughts on what to switch would be greatly appreciated! Since I'm on a Nexus 5, AT&T has basically shrugged their shoulders and said, It's not an ATT phone, so all the features may not work.
Name: ATT Phone
APN: phone
Proxy: not set
Port: not set
Username: Not Set
Password: Not Set
Server: Not Set
MMSC: ://mmsc.mobile.att.net (removed the http to get past the newbie link filter)
MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication Type: Not set
APN Type: default,mms,supl,fota
APN Protocol: IPv4
APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4
Bearer: Unspecified
MVNO Type: none

Everything else works as it should. LTE speed, sending/receiving SMS, sending MMS...

Sometimes it takes a little while for messages to catch up. As long as your APN is correct, and you are on the right plan, you should be fine.

It's been 48+ hours -- seems like long enough for things to sort themselves out or it can take longer than that?
No one has said the APN is wrong... I was hoping some other folks with a Nexus 5 on ATT would be able to comment/confirm that what I have works for them.

No joy. Wi-fi is off, data is on (I can get to Google). I've also tried with LTE enabled and then at 3G (LTE off). Pictures continue to send fine, but just won't receive them.
Even if Wi-fi is on, I don't receive pictures.
I guess I'll wait another couple of days and see. Worst comes to worst, I can switch back to StraightTalk w/ATT sim and be where I was. Seems odd to work correctly on a second tier (in my mind anyway) carrier and not a first tier one.
Thanks!

Yeah, really not a reason that it's not working. What size MMS are you trying to send?
I've tried about 20 different pictures that I've sent historically, plus AT&T Support couldn't send me pictures... nor could any friends. I don't know the size of any of the images. Just for fun, I've tried four different SMS/MMS apps, yeah I know.. that shouldn't matter at all.
On occasion the app has said "resizing image" before letting attache and send it, so some were "large".

I just tried that and didn't work.
And, I would like to officially stack claim to my status as an anomaly. I had one (1)picture that I sent myself today out of about 50 that actually went through. That's right, one was sent/received.. no setting or anything changed and back to can't receive.
I did also try deleting all APNs, rebooting the phone (taking the "clean things out" idea to an extreme) and manually typed in the APN.. no good.
Could my problem be with the Message Center Number? I've seen that referenced in a few places... but as I can send, it seems that wouldn't be the issue.
If I dial *#*#4636#*#* and go into Phone Information, the SMSC is blank. While I can type info into it, there's no "save" or "update" option...
If I hit refresh it populates with "+131323149810",145
Part in "s looks right for ATT, but again... no way to save it. The Update button doesn't 'seem to do anything.
K
It's definitely a weird problem for sure. It's one of those problems that if I had the phone in front of me...it might be a different story.
Hi guys,
I've been running the stock rom (6.0.1) with RingPlus for about 4 months now, and just got word that they were discontinuing service. I canceled my service with them and have moved to Tello, which many of the users on RingPlus were saying was a painless switch. I've received my Tello phone number, and activation/provisioning instructions, which I've followed several times. I'm able to make and receive phone calls, but don't have 3g or LTE data.
From my experiences with Nexus devices and AT&T MVNO's my gut says it's an APN setting, but when I browse to the APN list the whole list is grayed out and unchecked, the add button is also grayed out.
Does anyone know how to open this up?
This issue is solved. I used a hidden menu (##3282#) to view my APN settings and they were being pulled from Tello. Later in the day my phone randomly did a prl update (several dozen had been done since posting this thread) and after that update everything worked. My best guess is that the line wasn't fully activated.
Hi Thunderbolt,
My phone is rooted and after putting in the MSL and dig down I have the same issue as APN Type and many other options are greyed out. I'm with Sprint. Looks like you haven't done anything and it automatically became available. What's Tello? Do I need to install any otger app to get the access? Thanks.
I'm on Stock TouchWiz Marshmallow on my S5 Sport G860P and my APN settings aren't greyed out, but they don't save when I add the proper APN for my FreedomPop SIM I received yesterday.
Is there a way to unlock this phone for free? I bought it on Ebay used and it has a clean ESN. I'm not the original owner so I don't have to Sprint account number and I may not be able to get it because it was purchased from a reseller.

What does it mean to use a hidden menu? And what is Tello? I am having this problem as well and would love to fix it. My issue is ultimately about not sending and receiving MMS consistently. But having the prn menu grayed out isn't helping my efforts to fix it.
Thanks!

Open dialer Punch in ##3282# this brings up the hidden menu for a lot of things.. Choose edit, and if it ask for you MSL enter it, then go to apn settings and you can add one, it should not be greyed out.
