Hello there Ace II community.
When Jellybean leaked to the public, I have recorded a review video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J43AbOj95CE) which was honest in its nature (the way it should be) and highlighted negative parts of the software in great detail, as well as expressed my feeling of overall sluggishness the leak presented... Allow me to say a couple of valid arguments against your comments that said "stop whining", "foul mouthed fool", "lol looser" etc. (Many of which appeared after I posted my video right here in this section, many of which were made by those people. Apologies if I disturb others.)
1. This video, is not a music video of a love song written to Samsung but a honest review. It's meant to show you the damn thing, highlight positive and negative parts. Not to sweeten about how gorgeous this ROM is and how much we love Samsung.
2. One person said -- "it's just a dual-core 800 MHz processor, what do you expect from that? It's not a high end phone.". Well, this comment made me roll on the floor and I couldn't get up before 2 hours have passed. Take your Ace II, then take this phone - http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_desire_hd-3468.php. See? It has a single-core 1 GHz processor and the same amount of RAM. It is considered to be high-end phone. Now take a look at your Ace II again? What do you see? The same damn thing. What's different? Clock speed. You could think "OMG IT'S 200 MHz LESS OF COURSE IT'S NOT HIGH-END". No. Hit your head with a palm. Clock speed is irrelevant when it comes to overall performance. Not anymore. It's not year 2005 (and backwards). Moore's law is no longer valid. Speed does not (usually) scale with clock speed as much. Now for a bigger contrast and to emphasize how much Samsung sucks at developing software -- take your almightly hated iPhone 3G. Yes, 3G not 5 (http://www.gsmarena.com/apple_iphone_3g-2424.php). It has a single-core 400 MHz ARMv6 processor and 128 MB of RAM -- yet it runs way faster and more steadily than Ace II on its stock firmware. Bah, there is also my main device I use now. It has the same damn CPU (exactly the same), and 256 MB less RAM than Ace II. It's much faster, snappier and stable... And it runs Android 4.0 at that! It's called Sony Xperia Sola. I even have NFC chip here and it cost me 200 PLN less than Ace II. You are blindfolded by Samsung's beautiful ads (such as this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyHgx1srzE4). So please, don't give me this crap because obviously you have little to nothing knowledge there is in the world about this. Ace II is incredibly high-end when compared to many devices out there, and it literally has no right to be slow. And yes, it would perform much better on aftermarket firmware.
That is all I want to say.

Fanboys. That's what.
We need to build an Low Orbit Ion Cannon and wipe them from surface of earth. Or at least from Ace II community.

Not really no. Should be put as a sticky for people to understand that they are not carrying pitiful phone, but a high-end device and make them stop writing biased statements like this.
An explanation, per se -- how do we compare performance the right way.

Okey but Ace 2 is installed android from leaking so this is not a fair fight ....
I haven't watched the video yet but I am too an owner of both SGA2 and xperia sola running both stock rom and all. I dont know what you use your phone for your everyday life. but for me, at least in my own experience, xperia sola is so disappointing for daily use. Messaging too slow when opening, when someone's calling its taking too long to display the caller's name or number. Camera also not very good, it takes too long to focus and capture photo. Games, well it sucks hard, im not a hardcore gamer but I have games on my phones, temple run2, subway surfer, candy crush and plants vs zombies to be specific. In my sola, it lags like hell. On my SGA2, I dont have those issues. (except for the games when on the leaked JB)
Maybe I dont have a point in this topic, I just wanted to share that im way contented on the performance of my SGA2(MB4 leaked) than my xperia sola(stock ICS).

Software development/game development and a lot of phone calls.

Samsung fails at doing software.

bagnz0r, I wish the phone was faster and with software optimized as iOS, but indeed, not everything can be written in assembly
There is not only about software. I'm also a software engineer student, was sitting on Linux based systems more than 5 years, get used to the fact that always something doesn't perform as it should.
But from hardware point of view, I can tell you something. They pack a powerful dual-core processor, enough ram, little space, decent screen and few sensors, but people a get used to look only at processor's speed and number of cores, ram size and storage space.
So how can you limit phone's performance? Pack a powerful CPU and GPU with extremely low speed ram and storage. And while system is bringing data, CPU and GPU are idling.
They also play dirty with hardware. So, Galaxy S3 mini, have a higher clock speed, and so far, from antutu benchmark, a faster ram.
About storage, if you pack some memory with low IOps, you'll gonna have a bad time.
After trying different storage and throughput benchmarks, I decided that out phone has a great CPU and GPU with crippled RAM and STORAGE:

Yes, I agree here.
But then again, speaking of storage -- it's hard to go beyond limit of reasonable IO on NAND chips.

I have seen other phones that are dual core too, i.e the Evo 3d, motorola atrix, but with 1gb ram. When it comes to gaming, and not just counting the 3d aspect of it. Will the 512 mb of ram be enough to run even upcoming games. Can this device stand newer games that other phones like the htc evo 3d might have no problem handling? Share some thoughts on this. thnx
omfg AGAIN???? :/
512mb are ABSOLUTELY enough!!!
just look at this review
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEE65bNN8mc&feature=player_embedded
8 apps open and phone still fast
While the dual channel technology might bring some small performance benefits, 512MB will remain 512MB.
Current games should be no problem at all, but upcoming games (utilizing the unreal or unity engine for example) will definitely step up in terms of texture amount+resolution and general amount of data (see recent news of Shadowgun for example).
This could become a disadvantage at a certain point, but we´ll have to wait for some hard numbers when the time will come.
But i´m confident that the optimus 3d can keep up at least for 1 year (until we actually experience noticeable performance disadvantages with more advanced and complex games aimed at the Tegra3 Platform and other upcoming chipsets).
I have experienced some lock up'freezing issues when play the included games in 3D. I rooted my phone, so i dont know if its due to that or if its just due to the fact its a developer phone and the software is not final. I still love this phone, very fast and i get 8mb average dl's on Tmo here in the Bay Area(Hayward).
Could someone who has a pre release O3D unit have a look and see how much free ram is available after start-up please? (i'm an android newbie, not sure if this is possible on LG androids in general, without a specific app?) Just wondering how much ram the system leaves you to use....?
Thanks
Ian
i'm confused here...
i was under the impression that the concept here was tri-dual (dual core, dual channel memory, DUAL RAM) resulting in there being 1gb of ram configured as 512mb per core?
is that not what's happening?
It´s supposed to be 256|256 ^^
that's a bit dissappointing then.
however, as has been pointed out, it doesn't seem to affect overall performance much. i can see it being a hinderance to the future longevity o the phone though. a newer-than-gingerbread version of android on the horizon which will undoubtedly demand for higher specs could see this become a problem.
According to the presentation it's supposed to be memory for gpu and memory for system
Has anybody with a pre or final relase O3D managed to find out how much free ram is available after a cold start up please? (i.e no apps/games running, only a task manager) If it's something like 200 - 250mb then that should be ok i guess, HTC seem to think that amount is ok on their sensation, and that started with 768mb..... Sense 3 seems to be a bit of a resource hog, it seems.....
Thanks
Ian

If an O3D is supplied directly from a network, and comes loaded with their bloatware, will this affect the amount of free ram available?

I am on stock 2.3.6. I installed 1.2 apk and it really lags alot.
Xperia play unrooted and stock seems to play it quite smoothly, nexus S is more powerful so surely it should run smooth??
I have the same problem and I also like to know how to fix it.. The game runs reaply badly for my usual gaming habits. I use Matrix kernel @ 1.46GHz and the latest CM9 nightly. I get really high bench scores for 4.0.3 and overall performance kicks the ass of my friends' stock Galaxy SII I-9100.

I have generally found the general section to be most responsive. That method you are saying is via root and I am not rooted.
I always played it on mute anyway, and after deleting the audio files i got a massive jump in performance (audio was being processed even with volume at 0). Personal preference, but a noticeable fps jump.
So I guess the game isnt optimized for powerVR?? It seems to run fine on adreno 205, this is disappointing.
I mainly want to play it for the nostalgic bit and the audio is really important part of it.
The nostalgia value of my GTA3 experience was with a sound bug that forced the rain to play constantly. Not really the highlight of the game for me
The sound on the Nexus S seems kind of delayed and i've noticed many games that slow down a little as sounds are meant to kick in. I don't know exactly why, maybe mediaserver isn't given good enough priority. This seems to be the same issue that plagued my GTA3 adventures though.

perhaps being rooted is the reason I have yet to experience the problems you describe. I play gta and games which are more graphic intensive than gta with np.
I don't think the processor is to blame for your inability to play the game. The ns processors have proven to be more than capable of handling most processes. Rather, the stock software does not allow the hardware to reach its full potential. In other words, the nexus s is a peacock you; you've got to let it fly.

And btw my audio runs perfect and never stutters.

renaming the "audio" folder into "audio1" made the game much much smoother. i don't mind the missing sound. But isn't there a way to make it run even better? i still experience some massive lag problems...
Huge gain in performance by deleting the Audio folder. Thanks for the tip, now I can enjoy this game.

If you honestly think that your quadrant score makes your phone with a single A8 cortex core faster than two A9 cores there is something seriously wrong with you. Software tweaks can make up to 1% difference in actual performance.

Hi all, for those of you interested, I shot a video focus on the GT-I9505 performance while running cpu/gpu intensive games like Real Racing 3, Need For Speed Most Wanted, Asphalt 7, Dead Trigger, etc
http://youtu.be/Ibj_o5YahhM
Ciaoooooo
Very nice video!
One concern that I had, and now after watching this video is an even bigger concern, is gaming performance. Overall all games are somewhat lagging, I believe that this is due to the high resolution, that not only it has to process more pixels, but also requires additional video memory, which I believe is shared with the system memory.
I got very excited to buy this phone after S4 GE announcement, but now I'm skeptical, I have seen the Nexus 4 running games a lot smoother than this and I'm worried I will have to upgrade again soon in the future for a phone with a better GPU like Adreno 330 to be able to play newer games in 1920x1080 while the Nexus 4 could still play the same game smoothly.
What do you guys think? are you also disappointed with gaming performance?

Frankly speaking, I'm disappointed for the whole performance experience with my GT-I9505. The whole system it's not perfectly smooth and there's some stuttering here and there. The same issue obviously happen during games, although it's not so noticeable.
To be honest, any device I tried with the recent Qualcomm architecture (I mean both APQ8064 and APQ8064T Snapdragon 600), screen resolution apart, was not completely smooth during games like NFSMW or Real Racing 3. And, just to give a term of comparison, I had: PadFone 2, Nexus 4, Xperia Z, Optimus G, HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505). On Android OS, I could just see the Galaxy Note 2 (Exynos and Mali of course) running almost perfectly smooth Need For Speed Most Wanted. Then, I wouldn't be that worried about games and even more about general performances of GT-I9505. Samsung it's relatively new to APQ8064(T), then I guess it can only get better in the next updates.
Any game not running perfect on this phone just needs optimization that's all. The soc is relatively new in most regards, and aside from the mali-t6, has the most capable graphics card out there. The mali 400 used in the s2 through the note 2 handle every game just about prefect.

Yeah I think it's this and a combination of the Touchwiz interface and other bloated apps / processes.
optimising games for the phones hardware will increase performance in terms of average fps and that sort of thing but these random dips and microstutters we see are caused by background processes and services. Touchwiz is the main culprit but not the only culprit.

The 9500 uses the Octacore. It's a little bit more powerful than the APQ8064T you can find into the 9505.
On the other side, you will just have HSPA modem, not the LTE one. Only in korea for what I can remember, Samsung release an Octacore version together with an LTE modem.
If you don't need or you can't use LTE, you should have a slightly better device than the 9505.

Both have their advantages. Power VR can push out more FPS but the adreno has a better hexagon fill rate. The adreno 320is the newer chip and unfortunately many games are not optimized for it yet. The power vr on the I9500 is older and thus why some games will play more smoothly. If you try a game like real racing 3 you will see what I mean. However, a game like asphalt 7, both devices should handle well.
But why should Asphalt be no problem? I played it and it plays smooth Like it should. The game Epoch is running smooth but a simple game as carmaggedon has frame drop. Epoch is unreal powered and looks awsome.
Could this be because of optimizing games? I sure hope so. I love the device.

I hope more developers come here to develop and help our device.Team Canjica is best team in this forum which help our phone.
Off topic: Phone is made for chat:calls and messages and some games. But producters release phones with display over 5",with quadcore processors or octa core.Phone are gonna to have processor with over 8 cores and nvidia geforce at video and we will play gta 5 lol. Is called PHONE not COMPUTER. Smartphone should have a processor with 1.8 GHz max and Mali400, Mali 400MP or Adreno 305 maxim at graphic and display between 4" and 5" maxim. A smartphone should be SMART.Having big display, processors not make a phone smart. Producers must stop making smartphones with big displays and processors because make nonsense (also making phone with flexible or curved display make nonsense). Features like answer calls by saying "Answer" or by waving hand etc. ,these make a phone smart. I always was thinking to buy new smartphones (which are also popular) which have big display and big processors, make nonsense.I was thinking to buy nexus 4,but for what? Just a more big display and processor? I will be able just to play more new games without lag,but computer is for games not phone. In this moment,Tasked app can make a smartphone really smart. Thanks to the guy which made this awesome app.
So,I never sell my Galaxy S Advance for other phones until he die And maybe after he die I buy another galaxy s advance I love my phone and I'm satisfied with it.You made me to say my opinion about smartphones

Good words man, i think that a 5" display is reallyannoying to use because u can't bring with you freely cuz he's really too big! The new 8core are really useless, some galaxy s4 are getting some lags in touchwiz, our telephone not!

Paragraph 1: Our phone is being discontinued already, slowly but it's happening. Thankfully, Team Canjica helps us to take way more advantage of this 768Mb of RAM and 1GHz out of this comfortable 4" screen.
Paragraph 2: You're right but most of the flagships have software features that make them "smart" in a certain way. GS4 has features like Smart Stay and Air Gestures that make it way more useful than generic phones with more specs that just improve perfomance a bit more than needed without any other useful purpose, Moto X goes maybe for busy people that don't have the time to execute those time-consuming tasks that thankfully are shorten considerably depending on those features. Xperia Z1 goes for picture quality and a tad more for sound quality as the HTC One. It mostly depends of each phone. Not every phablet is useless. And about specs increase over time, it's just tech "evolving".

Features like Smart Alert,Air gestures can be done with Tasker...Now I stop to talk about these because thread is about cm
First thing I want to say that I'm not a big fan of Sony and Sony Xperia E is my first and the last device from Sony.
My point is how can Sony make this much worst smartphone !
I mean the hardware... Just look at it damn! Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 series processor with 512 MB RAM that can't even handle the load of Android 4.1.1 .
I don't know what is the worst part a sluggish performance of hardware of Sony's not so much interesting skin of Android which is giving more load on the hardware.
Now, I will talk about Nokia Lumia 520 ! Just look at the phone man!
Sexy body!
Sexy hardware!
Sexy OS!
The massive power of Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Krait 1 GHz dual core with 512 MB RAM. WOW!
And the best thing is even the Android is almost free and Windows 8 OS needs licence for the phone.. Both the phones costs almost at the same price.*
Is there any solution of this sluggish performance of Sony Xperia E ?! I have tried everything even CM 10 @ 1.3GHz overclocking but this disgusting phone remains the same and lags as heck.
Why Sony? Why?!
Learn from Nokia.

1. Why compare mate? Before buying a phone, you seriously should have checked up responses and reviews.
2. Have patience. There are many devices, who have sluggish performance. But there are also devs.We still have to wait for @joebonrichie to make 3.4 kernel for our device, which FXP did not.
3. Wait for devs to come up with 4.4,I'm sure that will not disappoint you.
4. You just have to agree that it is not a gaming phone,by using CM10,I sure have no lag at the ui.
Although game lag is present.
5. If you wanted a gaming phone, you should have had to pay higher.
6. Request a few developers to make blind builds of roms else. They might help.
7. Have you tried Pure performances+Greenify+Seeder?

I agree there is no comparison between Windows OS and Android but what I am trying to say is at the same price what Nokia gives is a lot more than Sony in hardware wise I mean just look at the processor and GPU ! Adreno 305 ! Sony looks so conservative people and of course my next device will never be Sony and not even an Android yes ! I would better use iOS devices or Windows because Android itself causes lags though there is ample amount of clockspeed and RAM. >.< LOL

LOL dude ! I know that Android 4.4 KitKat is configured to work like butterly smooth even in the 512 MB RAM config. but the GPU of our device is Adreno 200 and I don't think so that this much old GPU can handle this much smoothness and the best part in this whole scene is the development of 4.4 ROMs for our devices which will probably be under action when our phones will be at the age of retirement !
Alright a bad-joke ! I mean so few developers are developing our ROMs and Kernels and last but not the least we should not beg for ROMs from the developers and stop abusing our phones by not giving overload which shortens the life of phones.
CyanogenMod is officially developing the one for Sony Xperia E let's see how it changes the game !

Mate, look at pico section, same configs as ours.
Look at the number of Cm10.x roms available for them.
Devs have to take it seriously.

Maybe request someone to provide a blind build?[Actually kernel is only thing which is stopping us from higher development, we do know joebonrichie is working on it,we can hope that he's successful]
Or maybe just ask some dev from other sections about the RIL issue fix.
Once that's fixed,I believe @NSDCars5 will be working on Paranoid Android and Miui as well.

Yes dude. I did it for the same just because I wanted to taste some Android and I think it was my mistake to choose XE.
Hehe I am waiting for the future releases of Nokia and will get a Nokia and if Microsoft messes up Nokia the only option left for me is probably then Apple iPhones. or jolla phones with sailfish OS which is in the starting stage so not so mature but still I love it because it is funded by Nokia and run by ex-employees of Nokia who left the company after Windows came into Nokia.
My point of this post is Sony is such a conservative company which made phone in so low cost and selling with higher profit margin and Sony also doesn't provide any major software updates for such budget phones and as a result most of the people who suffers under major lags in System UI chooses to unlock bootloader and tries CyanogenMod ROMs at their own risks.

If you're still low on cash, I would indeed suggest him to not buy a Nexus 4.
Check: http://swappa.com.
You can find some really nice, already-used(mint condition most of the time!) devices, plus it's very save.
You pay, you get your phone. Done.
Just want to recommend this, because even the Nexus 4 is getting old. And the Nexus 5(although cheaper than other high-end phones), is still not cheap .
Swappa is also supported by XDA. Not trying to advertise, just giving a tip.
