Its Official... - Nokia Lumia 820

This phone is a piece of SH*T!! I haven't even been using it much for the past 6 weeks since I went back to my HTC One X, just as a media device for music and such. This morning when I was just browsing an app it closed, I tried opening a different one and it was unresponsive, decided a reboot was in order so I held the power button (the swipe down screen took much longer than usual to come up), and when I powered the device back on it is hung at the Nokia screen. Device will not boot, there has been absolutely not one bit of hacking attempted on this phone either. Also tried a couple of battery pulls. I now know why Microsoft's commercials just show people dancing and clicking a keyboard to the device instead of showing what the device can do, because nothing at all is impressive about it. I own a Samsung Focus and I wanted the 820 to help support this OS to give it a chance but I can only take so much and when I have a device failure for no apparent reason that's all I can take...can't wait for Ubuntu to release their first stable build of Ubuntu mobile.

Ok, after I left the phone sitting at the Nokia splash screen all day it finally died so I charged it up and its working again. I can't imagine if that happened in the middle of a work day though. And people look at me funny when I carry two phones on me...

[Q] Sensation Resetting Constantly?

Ive had this sensation since day one it came out and ever since it was doing light resets showing the HTC splash and going back to the main home screen but now its become much more intense. it does a full restart and everything. I get all the splashes, the TMO one and the HTC one. And it takes forever for it to restart too! It happened to me once while i was on the phone randomly. and other times just when it was chillin in my pocket.
I put ADW Launcher on there but i hope that isnt the reason why it is doing this. My guess is that im killing the memory forcing it to restart but that shouldnt be the case if it is just in my pocket.
Let me know if you guys have had the same issue too.
I will be taking my phone back to my store whilist fighting the 50$ BS restocking fee. Ive had this thing for 4 days and its giving me problems just like the G2x! Ive had so many phones this past 3 months and its become a pain.
Exact the same issue here, and seeing other posts on this forum, we are not the only one... Shop where I bought the phone YESTERDAY (in Holland), does not wan to replace it or return my money, guy just wants to repair it? OK, that's a dodgy side of the shop, but I believe that HTC should do something about this. I think that since yesterday, I have sent about 30 'Abnormal reset' reports. The phone prompted me to send this to HTC and I did.
I hope that you can resolve your issue. Maybe an idea - I have Lebara prepaid card - and it happens every 2 minutes that the phone resets itself. Maybe if you try another card - you might get better luck - but that should not be the point - we just want to use our own sim-cards, right?
If you manage to get the solution - please let me know. Cheers and good luck!!!!
Mine seems to reboot the ui constantly as well. At first it seemed like it was only when I installed large batches of apps. Now I've seen it when closing the browser, closing angry birds, after leaving the settings menu... It seems completely random. Very sad, it looks like I'm returning yet another device and waiting for the next. This is just one of Many issues I've had after only one week of use.

I literally took mine off the charger and it was ON...Got on my Xoom for a second and something told me to grab my phone...So as I hit the power/unlock button nothing happens....i hold it down...nothing...i try the volume and all the others...nothing...
So i finally took the battery off..put it back in and it starts up once i pushed the button...
Thats what i get as far as my issue..basically the phone turns off randomly on its own...I miss all kinds of calls and stuff.
I pray this is addressed in an OTA..cause my 1st unit had 0 issues other than the 1 dead pixel that i should have just dealt with.
This happened to me two of three times today. It seems as if the quality of the software is deteriorating the longer I have had it.
Posted in another thread. Had the phone 5 days and until this afternoon no problems at all. Today it was sitting on my desk, screen dark and spontaneously the boot screen came on and it was booting. Wasn't running anything.
Just using stock Sense, no launchers or even widgets running.
So far just one reboot. Will keep monitoring.
Mine just restarted twice today while I was speaking!
And the gsm signal is really, really bad compared with other phones.
This is just the way that Android works. Launchers (and other apps not currently being used) get pushed out of memory when the memory is needed, such as when browsing with lots of windows open or playing a memory intensive game. When going back to the launcher, it therefore needs to reload.
It's not an error or a bug.
You'd basically be taking you're phone back saying "The OS on my phone is working how it was designed. Please can I have a refund."

Desire S death after market AGAIN..

my phone is not rooted at all, i've just been using launcher pro.
Thing is, few months ago, the emmc chip thing has already happened to me.
While updating in the market, it hanged, i pulled the battery, and it died.
I sent it to HTC to repair and got it back. Phone has been smooth since then.
But few days ago I clicked update all, and it hanged again. Was stuck at the htc white screen for a while, but after constant on and off, i was sooo jubilant when the launcher pro loaded. So no problem after that.
but just now, i was just downloading one or two apps in the market, and it hanged again. I tried to turn it off and on, and so far it hasnt responded well..
it stops at HTC- quietly brilliant, the music rings, and nothing else happens.
(I am guessing this is a good sign? when my emmc chip fried, the music never played)
can anyone help me now though? i don't know what to do except hold both volume buttons and shutting down and restarting again.
i might have to pull out the battery at some point and restart.
i love the phone, but this really sucks big time.
Without intentionally meaning to offer any sympathy, am I right in thinking that after a battery pull killed your first device you then went on and pulled the thing again?
have you looked at this

i know pulling the battery kills it, but i couldnt really do anything else..
well now i'm screwed again.
the thing is pretty much dead, and only gives me the white htc screen.
seriously, htc? if i were rich or had another phone replacement i'd throw this phone out the window at this moment.
now i'm not even in the country where i bought my phone and have my warranty ughh.. is htc's warranty global, or am i screwed?

Not much help now, but should you give HTC one more chance, and it locks up again, you can force a reset without battery pull by holding down both volume keys and the power button.

Wait... you said in your first post that you got past the white screen with green "htc" on it (the splash image) and onto the bootanimation (where it says "quietly brilliant" and plays the music... is that correct?
If it is, its a good sign. It means your phone is getting to the ROM and attempting a bootup. I hope you havent pulled your battery meanwhile!!! This thing may still be salvageable.
Do let us know if you can still get to the bootanimation...
the first few times it did run to the part where "quietly brilliant" came up with the music, but after that it never loaded, so i kept soft resetting many times but it would never load. Then it stopped loading pass the white HTC screen. When i soft reset, the phone blackouts for a few secs and that white screen pops up again. So there wasn't even a chance to do (volume down + power) to do a factory reset. I had to pull the battery.
Today I took it to the service center, since this is not the country where I bought my phone, it wasn't under warranty, and I will have to pay around $30 USD. it will be back by next tuesday though.
but seriously, how is this the fault of the consumer? I have not rooted or s-off my phone. It hanged while doing an ordinary phone function - downloading from the market. How is an average consumer supposed to know that he shouldn't be pulling out the battery? and he should need to know how to do all the technical recovery things himself?
f htc.. this is the last htc product i will be using in a few years.
second time it happened to this phone too, and like i said, it happened last week too, though i was able to reboot it after maybe 30 minutes.
the only one good thing is at least they gave me a temporary phone (wildfire) to use while my desire s is being fixed.
Same problem here with me, while trying to open htc likes, it hang and no response from power bottom, i waited for 2 min, still no response, so i pull out the battery, and re install and try to open my htc desire s, its doesnt power up, no response, it does not open even the white screen of htc, no vibration, its like an dead now, try to go to recovery mode, my clicking vol down+ power key. still there is no responce, i dont know what to do, as there is no htc sercive center in my country. guys please help me if there is any other way to make it alive, i ma really worried that its hardware problem or software problem, as i havent drop it or it has in contact with water, just it hang up and i pull the battery and reinstall. please guys help me

Dead Desire S

So here is the story, I had a S-Off Desire S which was running perfectly fine on Cyn 7. I was doing something and it hanged I took out the battery and it was dead. By dead I mean no light when putting on chargers (multiple chargers, multiple cables and multiple outlets including computer and power), it doesn't boot up, nothing happens on holding volume keys with power button, once my computer detected a wierd device I can't recall the name.
For past two months or so its been lying around since I didn't had time to look into it. Is there any way of fixing it or should I consider it as an expensive paper weight.
I am from Pakistan so there is no concept of warranty here as HTC when I purchased was not officially here. My first and last HTC set.

You should not blame HTC ("my first and last HTC" you said). You were using unsupported (by vendor) ROM. It's a pity that it happened but there's always a risk.
If you can't get into Hboot there is very little we can do here, the only thing I can suggest is to clean your battery contacts? It is a long shot!
Your computer detected QHSUSB_DLOAD device.
Google it, and see what it is.
Unfortunately, it also means you screwed your phone beyond repair (which is possible, but very hard, and no guide exists - only Sensation has one). Don't blame HTC, they weren't the one to run CM on your phone.
i have emailed HTC regarding this hopefully they will be able to sort something out for me ... another friend of mine running on stock firmware had the same problem today. Is this problem only related to Sensation, Desire S and Desire HD or it can happen in the newer sets like One X too?

[Q] Lately, a bunch of Nexuses have been randomly committing suicide...

Okay, so yesterday, my friend comes to me saying his Nexus S (Sprint) just randomly quit working for no reason. And then his phone is totally stock, no root, no bootloader unlock, and no custom recovery. So I go home, plug this Nexus S into the charger, but the screen remained blank. I unhooked it from the charger, then decided to plug it into the computer. The computer made no sound, did nothing at all. I tried all possible key combos in existence. The only thing the Nexus did was to become warm. I furthermore researched about this issue all over Google, and I've found plentiful Nexus S users report that their Nexus S quit and won't give any sign of life this month. Today, ANOTHER friend came to me, but this time, it was because he forgot the pattern lock to his Nexus S (Sprint). No biggie. I just went into the recovery, and wiped data (since he also forgot his Google account). I wanted to use this Nexus to see if I can diagnose the other Nexus. So in my hands, I hold 2 Neuses. One bricked HARD. The other healthy and free. I just want to confirm, there IS AN ISSUE W/ OUR NEXUSES that makes them die, and we have to figure out what is causing this to happen. We need a solution. I need other Nexus S users to confirm this issue by commenting within this thread.
Just the past couple days my Nexus S has been on the fritz. I've always been able to overlock/underclock, but now if I touch the clock settings, it reboots. I cant even set the max frequency to 800mhz any more. I've tried nearly every rom and kernel and I believe its the just the hardware finally degrading. Also the responsiveness of the device is hugely slower than when I first purchased the it, I have to wait about 10 seconds after unlocking the screen to be able to do anything, and Im on completely stock now.
Really hoping for a good nexus phone to come out this year.
Looks like there are some design flaws with this device like the power button. Not sure there are any solution beside using your warranty if you have one and buying a different phone.

Agree with you there. I don't believe there's a point trying to look why exactly some Nexus S die. It's specialized electronics and without the knowledge you could pretty much be poking your finger at everything and nothing for the rest of your life. And even if you find out the issue, doesn't mean you can fix it yourself... :/
Easier to just send it for repair and be done with it.
Edit: When I first got my Nexus I sent it for repair to Samsung. Came back with "BGA failure" on the work sheet. Bad soldering? Who knows.
Maybe, maybe its the CPU, this thing cannget hot sometimes. Maybe a contact messes up. Samsung is notorious for good hardware just dieing.

[Q] Did I actually manage to kill my phone, or is there still hope?

The issues started about 4 weeks ago when I fell in a lake with my MyTouch 4g in my pocket. The issue was that I hadn't realized that it had gotten drenched until about an hour later as I was trying to chase my daughters runaway puppy through the neighborhood at the time and she wouldn't stop for anything.
Needless to say, by the time I got home and realized what happened, my phone wouldn't unlock and the camera flash on the LED was in a permanent on state. I immediately pulled the battery, SIM card and SD card and put the phone and battery in a bag of rice (a trick I had read about here). I waited for a week and attempted to power the phone back on, but again the flash led came on and the phone did nothing.
Thinking it a lost cause I switched back to my oldest phone (an old Motorola Cliq XT) and rooted it so I at least had CM 7.2 on it, though it is so slow that I am yearning for my MyTouch back again so I can actually do things like use Reddit and surf the net on my phone again (I was without my actual computer for months at one point so I got in the habit of using my phone for about 90% of my surfing and whatnot).
The other day, however, I had a bright idea while bored at work. When I got home I attempted to turn my MyTouch back on, and to my surprise, it came to life! I quickly switched out the SIM and SD cards and flashed CM 7 onto it and tried to boot it up. To my joy it seemed to work, at first, however as soon as it went to sleep, the screen would not turn back on. It lights up, but there is no image, the touch screen works and the OS seems to be working since I can feel the tactile feedback when I unlock the phone. I was hoping that someone could tell me if I had actually killed my phone dead enough that it is beyond hope or not? If I have actually killed it I was wondering if anyone had advice for me on where I could pick up a replacement for cheap?
I already tried asking /r/android the other night and the only suggestion they had was to make the dog pay for a new phone. Amusing as that may be, she doesn't currently hold a job and thus has no way to compensate me for the damage.
Any and all advice is appreciated, thanks!
If you stalk Ebay you might find one with a cracked screen that still functions for cheap or something like that ,that will allow you to use a part from your phone to make it whole.. providing you know how to replace the screen or basic repairs, that is what i have done 4 times over the past 2 years..
Good Luck!!If you look long enough and bid right you can get one for a fair price ,I bought my last one for 20 dollars and replaced the screen after dropping it in my foyer and worked like a charm you just need to be careful opening it.I hope this helps as far as providing a potential solution to ur problem.again Good Luck!!
Sorry, you probably did. Phones can barely take a couple minutes of water, yours took a swim. Usually the rice is the only way to get it dry, if that didn't work....
Your screen could be damaged though. Your best bet would be to order a good phone at a pretty reasonable price off contract on sites like ebay or swappa, or if you're eligible for an upgrade, go for it.
Motorola Cliq XT? That was my first smart phone, can't say I miss it much lol. Of money is super tight I say get an optimus T and sell that pos. The optimus actually ran cm7 pottery l pretty well for having a 600 mghtz processor
