My phone is currently sitting with a "S/W upgrade" screen after a series of stupid events. I flashed recovery using ROM Manager before I had read that it fake flashed. I rebooted into recovery and installed CM7 nightly. Rebooted and it's stuck in a boot loop. So I finally see all the warnings against that so I figure I need to get a real recovery so I use the awesome guide from TGA_Gunnman. I follow all the instructions and it appears from the log on my PC that the CM recovery flashed successfully. I pull the cord, reinsert my battery and my phone just sits in the S/W upgrade screen. It's been like that for 30 minutes now.
What do I do?
I thought I'd done something wrong with my G2x because that happened to me too. Remove your battery and USB. Then insert your battery again. When you turn it on, make sure to hold both the power button and the volume down button until you see text that says android. If you, like me, thought you just had to hold the volume down and tap the power button (like my Nexus One), that might be your issue.
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
just disconnect usb, and go to recovery Power+vol down...
.....and congrats !
yep, I thought I bricked it too.. When you were done at the green screen where it said press any button, thats where you press whatever you want and then unplug the cord. Then, put the battery back in and hold down vol then power, don't let go until "android" pops up.. You did it man, just missing your last step..
Moved to proper forum
I can get to the Recovery screen, but I cant select any of the options....volume lets me scroll, but cant find anything to select any of the options....kinda new at this
power button to 'action' your selection... at least it works for me.

The "S/W upgrade" stays on, that's normal. See if your terminal window has completed whatever stuff it is doing. If you get a completed message, you are good to go and can safely pull out the USB chord even if your phone still says "S/W upgrade". Put back your battery and hold Power+Vol DOWN button and see if you get into cmw recovery.
so im trying to fix my friends phone and this is weird..
im able to go to cwm, wipe it all and flash a new rom.. it flashess successfully but when i reboot it goes back to the s/w update screen..it happens with any rom i flash.. its been sitting there for a while.. how long should i wait?
Once you flash the ROM you shouldn't be getting that screen...Does your friend has the G2x or 2x and which ROM did you flash?
Sounds like you screwed up the boot image. Go into APX mode again and reflash the recovery package making sure it completes, you hit a key to close the terminal window, and you hold the volume buttons the entire time. Then go into recovery and factory reset and clear the Dalvik cache. Then if you still get the S/W update screen you are going to need to go to the thread about fixing bricked phones and use the KDZ method to reflash the entire GB OTA package. There is also a new method to reinstall the entire OTA package using NVFlash but you have to hold the volume buttons down for about ten to fifteen minutes while everything flashes.
Hey please experts help me with my galaxy 3 i just bought one i had it 1 day, battery was discharged and after i charged it i got bootloop I tried many roms and i always got : bootloop, boot screen with GT-I5800 or screen Kernel panic upload mode. Here comes help!
Welcome to the forum, btw
First thing you should do is hold on a little bit.
To solve your problem try to get to download mode (VOL-, HOME, POWER, then after phone turns on, release power) and flash Kyrillos' ROM (FROYO - v9.0) - fire up odin, tick one package, select tar and flash it. AFTER the flashing ends, you should boot up to recovery (CWM recovery for G3MOD kernel). Here, navigate through menu using VOL+, VOL- and navigate to "Wipe data/factory reset" option. Now press HOME button to confirm. Navigate again to Yes, press HOME again and wait till its done.
Now Navigate to "Reboot" or something like that - its the first option in there. Then press HOME again. You should see the phone rebooting and then displaying the bootanimation - it lasts for aprox. 10-20minutes, so don't panic!
If this wont solve your problem, give me more info
- New or used phone - THIS IS ABSOLUTELY IMPORTANT TO KNOW BECAUSE IF YOU HAD NEW, YOU HAD 2.1 FIRMWARE ON IT
- Did you wipe data/factory reset phone
- What else you tried?
- etc, etc...
There will be solution somewhere... I'm sure. But post the result after trying that.
PS: here on xda is a little THANKS button... Use it instead of "THANK YOU" posts. (Just in case you didn't know)

Thank u very much man phone was used but it had 2.1 stock firmware on it, i didnt wipe/ factory reset on phone, and i didnt't tied sthing else.
Now tell me after flashing Kyrillos' rom v9.0 Do I have flash kernel with CWM or its in Kyrillos already? How to enter CWM recovery mode ? Same as normal (VOL +, VOL-, HOME, then POWER) I did thank u cuz it sounds logical what u wrote thank u man and I am waiting for reply.
CWM is pre-installed on Kyrillos rom. To boot into CWM recover just turn the phone on, hold the power button until a menu comes up and in the menu it will say recover. Press recovery to go into recovery mode.

Turn your phone off by pulling the battery out. The put the battery back in but don't turn the phone on. Hold the volume up + volume down + home button + power button and as soon as the screen turns on, let go of the button. This will take you into CWM recovery. Then, in recovery, select wipe data/ factory reset, then wipe cache and then wipe the dalvik cache. These options are all in recovery and are easy to find. Then reboot the phone and it should work. Also you don't need to root your phone to flash a custom ROM.

You probably have confused Samsung galaxy 3 with Samsung galaxy S3 because this phone (Galaxy 3) Hasn't menu that you can boot to recovery/bootloader with. At least I dont know about such "menu" thing.
---------- Post added at 03:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:01 PM ----------
----------------------------------------------------------------------- SOLUTION! ---------------------------------------------------------
@KamelusPL: You said that you cant boot after flashing Kyrillo's ROM v9.0. And you had Android 2.1 and you couldn't boot. That means you have been in hurry to get things really fast done and flashed FROYO ROM WITHOUT BOOTLOADERS OVER 2.1 THAT COMES WITH ITS OWN TYPE OF BOOTLOADER = bricked.
HOWEVER, there's a solution! yeah!
This is a bit risky, but if you want your phone working again, you must do that. I'm saying again, I take no responsibility over such things.
1. Put your phone into download mode. This must be working.
2. Download this file: http://hotfile.com/dl/132526357/46bd186/I5800XXJPS_OXX_Android_2.2.rar.html
3. Open odin, tick ONE PACKAGE, in the down right corner click ONE PACKAGE and select .tar file you downloaded. ITS WITH PROPER BOOTLOADERS - FROYO XXJPS. That must work.
4. Click start. NOW DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PC until its done!
5. Wait till its done and wait till your phone boots up.
6. If you will have still bootloop, then you must boot into recovery (YOU MUST WAIT... RECOVERY WONT SHOW IMMEDIATELY just like in download mode... wait man.), here navigate using the same keys I told you before, and select wipe data / factory reset, then select yes and wait till its done. Then, navigate to wipe cache partition, select yes and wait till its done. Then, select reboot system now and press HOME.
7. This should be working!
This menu! Recovery is the second last option and I have a galaxy 3...
Edit: also I would recommend doing what the Guy above said. To boot into download mode you hold volume down + home button and the power button.

Wait, so when you bought your phone yesterday the battery was discharged? So you didn't check if it was working or not before you bought it? Maybe you were scammed into buying a broken phone

Any other way to enter the recovery? I'm afraid not.
Maybe this has somethig to do with flashing CUSTOM FROYO ROM over 2.1. Because Kyrillos' ROM's kernel converts filesystems to other ones than the stock RFS that is used by stock samsung roms. That means the phone after flashing stock rom directly after some custom froyo roms dont recognize the partitions in different filesystems. So you must wipe data and cache partition to get the phone to recognize theese partitions again.
After that, the phone will boot. BUT YOU MUST BOOT IT TO RECOVERY AND WIPE DATA SOMEHOW.
This is really wierd... If you can go to download mode, I'm sure this can still be fixed somehow, but the stock froyo rom should boot into recovery anyways...
Have you tried getting to recovery when you first saw the phone that its not booting? I mean at the beggining of this problem if you had still 2.1 when you got the phone? Because wiping data from recovery on 2.1 should have solved this problem I think...
EDIT: HERE IN XDA IS SOME FILE - zerofill.tar THAT IF YOU FLASH IT, YOU PROBABLY GET WIPED PARTITIONS, but not sure... TRY THAT - I think rkoby13 has posted this file somewhere... Try to PM him...

U have absolutly right that they to solve this is enter recovery mode but i think my problem is deeper i found something on my own. Look.
If your GSII has the folowing symptoms :
Bootloop
Stuck on GSII logo, but already removed the battery to try to fix it
Enters Download mode and Recovery mode
It means that you are soft bricked and is easy to solve.
But if your symptoms are the mentioned above, PLUS the symptoms below
Enters Download mode but does NOT enter recovery mode (usually means a NAND rw corruption)
Doesn't flash
Bad flash in odin (FAIL after flashing, or the flashing suddenly stops)
It looks like I must use all my brain power to solve that i guess i need to go deeper into android stuff cuz i wont give up. I even gave my phone to service but seems like that dude is lame and he is not so much expert like i need i send message to Kyrillos cuz i guess he knows all bout androids and all that stuff and thats the person who i need some1 very good must see my topic guess i will just read learn and w8 for help thank u all for advices
After watching your youtube video I am confused. You try to get in into recovery, but don't even wait 10 seconds before you remove the battery?
Before you start make sure the battery is not empty or even broken. Charge until it reports full.
Battery out for a while, remove charging cable. Then battery in, press Vol+ and Vol-, add Home, then Power, as soon as something appears onscreen let go all three. Then WAIT. What happens?
If it stays on the GT I5800 screen for longer than a minute on a stock Eclair AND stock Froyo (from twinky's advice), you probably have a serious hardware issue. Did this device you bought ever work properly for you? That's important. If you really bought a phone that you never saw working, it's most likely hopelessly dead. If it worked, and showed the reported error after a day, there might be hope.
edit: I had countless bootloops/flash FAILs/tons of FC after 1st boot/corrupted FS... don't give up! As long as download mode is still accessable, it's not dead yet!

Dude u rly think i am so stupid?
Phone was working when i bought it i suspect that some sort of application crashed it( i guess taskkiller), i did tried to take out battery for longer time even 1 day ... And i did tried to hold buttons longer
Its bad flash that has made the situation...
Flash zero fill.tar which will clean your system
Flash again a rom using 'Forced download mode' ( vol+, home, power button)
Note: you should restart your phone by keys when its still on after zero fill flash using the force download keys.

Sorry, I was just telling from the video. But a software like taskkiller cannot mess up the whole phone in a way that prevents access to recovery.
Try cleaning the ROM like in above post and then flash a bootloaderfree stockrom. That should leave you with a perfect situation to start all over again.
Hi,I don't know if the word "bricked" or "drowned" is the best match for my case, but anyways here is my story:I had installed on my phone the kyrilos rom,I don't remember wich version excactly it has been too long before. My phone fell into a glass of water,I pulled battery out, dried it up with hair styler, after that it had some water marks on the screen and it was working quite good,I re-flashed it abd worked better, the watwr marks on the screen dissappeared and got better...but...my girlfriend reebooted accidently in recovery and it dropped dead, froze,I pulled the battery out, reebooted, and after that I am stuck in phone's logo and it keeps loading nothing ..forever..and I can't even boot to recovery mode..any ideas?I've searched in this blog and I couldn't find anything to do..please help me..

Dear all,
If you haven't updated it, don't do it.
My situation now is:
1. It stucks at the red dual core logo; (I think it shouldn't be called a boot loop)
2. It can't be powered down; (even I press and hold the power button forever!)
3. If I reboot it, I can still press the -vol button to choose between modes, but there are one 3: NvFlash; RSD; and fastboot. No "android recovery" option.
As of now, I put it into Nvflash mode so that the screen will not keep shining with the red logo.
May anyone suggest how I could unbrick it, or the worst case, reinstall everthing to stock?
Thanks very much for your help!

If you lost recovery then you need to ADB into the unit to force it into recovery (if you don't know what I'm talking about get a friend who does).
In either case you will need to have the developer tools installed on a computer and connect via USB to be able to flash Stock Rom via fastboot.
Back to EOS4 203 build!

Dear Guys,
Thanks you for your opinions.
1. I would like to flash back to 203. Would any one care to give me some step by step guides how to do that, given my situation, being stucked at the start up and couldn't go into recovery?
2. If I have a friend who is so technically superb, I wouldn't have to come up here to ask for help. As I always think here is where the genius gather.
Looking forward to a solution. Thanks again for all of you who cares.

Try the power + vol up +vol down reboot... this should get you to a bootloader screen, from there you can select recovery and that should allow you to re-install the 203 nightly. BTW... the problem was noted in the developer forum soon after the 204/205 file were posted.
ADVICE:: you might want to review any files in the forum before jumping on any upgrade.
if the above doesn't work then try -
Re-install your recovery - using the same steps that originally were used to root and install a recovery.
You may have to use ADB to push the files out to the device. (do a search for adb in this forum, or perhaps root kit)
With this it should be simple to recover.
I was fortunate that I was able to return to recovery and install 203 with no issues other than a anxious moments wondering what I did wrong
hope this helps
I looked all over and didn't find anything regarding this problem on here, or anywhere else online.
Rooted my infuse awhile back, added clockwork mod earlier today successfully. Shortly after, attempted upgrading to jelly bean and fudged it all up.
My phone just shows the Samsung logo upon startup and stays that way for awhile.
After trying to hard reset (holding down the power and volume buttons), the screen that shows up is the attached picture. Its all jumbled and weird.
I can't get into download mode.
Am I screwed or what?
Nope. Not screwed at all. You need to flash gingerbread bootloaders. Do a search and you shall find the procedure.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
As the post above says, you need Gingerbread bootloaders. To expand on that, and to get you to where you need to be, take the battery out of your phone and put it back in.
Now that it's off, boot it into CWM: hold down both volume buttons along with home and press the power button. The second you see anything come on the screen, release the power button but continue to hold everything else. Continue to hold these until you see a solid colored background which is CWM.
It may still look very messed up like the picture you posted. Hopefully you'll get a somewhat legible CWM (You should.). Navigate your way to installing the right zip if you have it on your phone. If not, plug in your phone to your computer and go to mounts and storage -> mount USB storage and transfer the right zip onto your phone.
If this fails miserably, do what you can to try to get to download mode. If you do all the right things, chances are it will go into download mode, and at this point it doesn't matter if you can see it or not. If you get here, and ODIN recognizes your phone, you might just want to follow this and start over -- [ODIN][UCLB3] UCLB3 Unbrick - Return to stock.
If you get the Return To Stock going, all you need to do from there to get a more recent ROM going (ICS+) is to get Entropy's CM9 running, which will ensure you are on ICS, enabling you to install Jellybean. If you get this fixed, I recommend CM10.2, Slim Bean, or Beanstalk. Once you get those up and running, you'll love it. The only thing you will have to do (after loving your new phone) is to thank the awesome devs or (even better) donate to these guys that do lots of work for no money.

I appreciate the help. Unfortunately I don't get a legible CWM at all, just what you see in my previous photo. Also, my computer doesn't recognize the phone when I plug it in.
From your help, I understand how to get it working after I can get into the phone's system. I guess my problem now is getting the computer to recognize that its plugged in. It seems going into the CWM (holding volume and power) just keeps giving me the same screen. even if I scroll blindly and try to pick options, nothing happens.
Good luck
Please go and learn the unbrick Odin to stock GB with root guide first. This it's your key!
The unbrick tool guide mentionned in the previous replies is the working and proven tool, but first you must be in download mode.
It's a must to FIRST download and install Samsung Kies on your PC for the drivers or else your phone won't connect (vol Up,vol down simultaneously together while connecting to PC via USB)
Follow the Odin guide in the previous reply step by step and with a cool mind.Don't stress!!!
Try searching for the real download mode procedure as I forgot it.It's found in the unbrick guide mentioned.
If you still can't be in download mode, search the Web a lot and try to do this:
Let your phone battery die out (leave the screen on till it dies or try restarting a few times to let it die.Remove battery.
Forget the phone for a whole day.
Then try to put it back to download mode on your PC.No need to put battery back. The phone will switch on!
But first learn the unbrick Odin to stock guide as it's the whole key to your problem!
If you succeeded, then here is your first step to flash a ROM.
This is a thread for a working CWM on infuse.I used the 04.30 1.2GHz version and you can install it without going into recovery mode using SGS Kernel Flasher in play store for free:

I followed the above instructions and upgraded the Samsung galaxy infuse 4G from gingerbread 2.3 to Android Jelly Bean 4.3.
It will be difficult for you to do unless you know computers well. You will need 1 to 3 hours to complete.
Every single little step must be followed, pretty much fill in every single step.
First you must obtain CWM, it's a flashing utility which is accessed at boot up by holding Volume up + volume down + power
Phase 1:
---------
To obtain CWM head over too Jscotts odin url.
1. download the file which includes root access.
"Stock UCLB3 with root
UCLB3_Unbrick_root_1.1.zip"
2. you will also need Samsung Kies, which will install the usb driver for your Samsung galaxy. The link is on the website.
3. Place your phone into Download mode
To do this, have your usb cable for your phone plugged into the computer but disconnected from your phone. shut off your phone. When the power is off press Volume up and Volume down simultaneously, after the buttons are pressed plug in the usb cable at the same time, which should be connected to the computer.
This will place the phone in Download mode.
4. open the included Odin.exe, when you see the yellow bar under ID:COM then everything is good.
Follow the rest of the instructions on jscotts website.
Finally when this procces is done, reboot into android.
Phase 2:
---------
1) Download SGS kernel flasher
2) Click on the link on jscotts website to download a stock kernel which contains CWM. use "2013.04.30-CWM-Synthesis-1.2Ghz.zip
Phase 3:
----------
description:
Convert the phone from gingerbread 2.3 to ICS Android 4.0, as the instructions say.
Head over too: Entropy's CM9 website:
forum.xda-developers.co...hp?t=1601844
1) There are 3 links on the website for Cynogen 9 rom for Samsung infusion 4g, any one is ok. Download CG9 for Samsung infusion 4g. version along with the Gapps.
2) After saving both zip's on your sd internal memory, shut off your phone. Press both volume up and volume down and power at the same time.
The phone will boot into CWM.
3) Make a backup of your original rom for your phone before proceeding.
4) Select Flash zip, select your ICS android 4.0 rom which you saved on your internal sd. (ie: "cm-9-20120620-UNOFFICIAL-infuse4g.zip"
5) Install GAPPS as well, after step 4 is complete.
Again for the full instructions please follow the instructions on "Firmware][ICS]UNOFFICIAL CM9 for the Infuse 4G (07/28/2012)"
Phase 4
--------
1. Boot into CWM again buy pressing Volume up + Volume Down + power.
2•Install ROM: Scroll down for downloads section
•... The package will start to install..
•... Phone will reboot into the install screen again...
•... Continue to install [Automatically] If not manually flash again
•... Phone will reboot again and be at the recovery screen...
3. Install Gapps
4. •CWM: Wipe Cache Partition
5. •CWM: Advanced/Wipe Dalvik Cache
6. •Reboot
FINISH.

Thank you! I will attempt this when I get home from work and see what happens.
Okay guys, this used to be a "Omg i bricked my phone help me" question thread. But I unbricked my phone and now its amaaazing
So if u got the same problem here u go:
First lets analyze the problem:
I got LG G2 d802 (international)
Rooted it with IORoot25r
I got TWRP 2.7 on it
I entered the recovery mode from ROM manager
I wiped all data, but forgot that no rom was on my device.
So the device froze at LG logo.
When trying to reboot, the device would just freeze again there.
SO HERE IS WHAT I DID:
Device was on LG logo
I pressed Power ON/OFF button and Volume Down button (hold it)
I released them when the mobile restarted and I saw the LG logo again.
Then I immidiatly repressed and hold the power ON/OFF button and Bolume Down button. This will cause the device to enter RECOVERY MODE.
In the TWRP (Team Win recovery Project) menu (the TWRP menu is the recovery mode), I pressed on turn system off (not sure where it is, but I think it in the Reboot section)
So the device is OFF atm.
I kept pressing volume down and then I plugged the usb stick in, this will cause the device to go in DOWNLOAD mode.
Once in that mode, all you have to do is follow the thread that was linked by scholastova underneath (first reply).
(PS -> since I have less than 10 posts, i can't post links )

Hello everybody,
so I got a lg g2 international version (d802). I rooted my phone with IOroot25r1.
I installed rom manager and updated the CWM. Later I wanted to download Omnirom, in the thread it said that TWRP was succesfull and CWM wasnt tested. (THREAD: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2668564)
So I searched on the internet and I downloaded the apk called Autorec. It automatically installs TWRP.
So i went into the recovery mode and wiped everything I could. After that I noticed that I forgot to put the ROM on the phone (retarded me).
So i tried to reboot, because the phone wasn't showing up on my PC. ABD didnt find the device either.
(I said SO alot of times, sorry for that )
I am now stuck at booting. When booting I see the LG logo and the LED turning colors but it won't start, neither will it turn off, it will just restart if I keep pressing the power on/off button on the back. Holding all buttons will get me into a menu where it gives me a couple options:
Off
On
Cancel
Answer Call
Stop Alarm
I can't get to answer Call or Stop Alarm. And if i press Off, On or Cancel it will simply freeze and stay there forever. Then all i can do is hold off-on button again and get back to the non-stop lg logo.
I cant enter recovery or the phone, neither does it show up in abd.
HELP ME PLEASE. I HAVE TRUST IN YOU

I tried the first step with the KDZ, didn't work The program gives the error "plug phone in". Basically it doesn't recognise the phone.
Also I think I kinda know the situation now. I have 0 roms and 0 backups. ABD sideload won't work (no idea why). My only chance is mounting, Hope that will work. But is there any other method? (PS i also tried the .TOT method, didnt work also).
